Beautiful location nestled nicely between the bay and park. Our thoughtully equipped room sat facing the pool with easy pool access. And we were so pleased that it's a dog friendly lodge! Monterey Bay Lodge is even considerate enough to include a nice sized refrigerator and microwave. The lantern lit courtyard is surrounded by beautiful flowering trees and bushes. This hotel was perfect and budget friendly. I loved that there was a beach across the street and a gas station store for snacks! We were downstairs. The room was hot but luckily there was a little fan that we found in the closet. The closet is a mirror one ! The lady that helped us checked in was wonderful. Be cautious : On the morning of checkout , the ladies were cleaning up other rooms. In our room was my mom, me , and boyfriend. We left the curtain open since my mom was straightening her hair and needed better lighting. There is a mirror by the sliding door. My mom and I were now by the main door , her ironing and me doing my makeup. My bf was sitting on the bed. My mom and I see a man pass by and look while walking ( nothing too unusual ..) until he came back for a double look. He had already walked by and turned back around and was near our glass door looking in. My mom said that he put his ear against the other room that was next to us ( it was employee closet or something) and he knocked as to listen ?? The man must of thought we were alone. My bf got up and out the sliding door. We believe he is a worker but such an odd thing to do. He could had said something like morning , I'm maintenance ??? Your basic budget hotel. No frills. No breakfast. We chose this place for the heated pool, but it felt umm cold.. we had a first floor room, and could hear the upstairs customers walking around every morning starting at 5am. No heater, no A/C available but there was a fan in the closet. I did find a long black hair in the bed. The vending machine was out of many things and the out of stock light was not on. The yellow paint is awful. The shower was super tiny, and the clean clothes we went home with smelled of the hotel.. The good things were, that it was across the street from a nice park, close to the beach, free parking, and a small fridge and microwave in the closet. I recommend taking your own shampoo, conditioner and soap. The ones in the shower are not that great. read more

Quiet, conveniently located to many popular spots. Room was less than what we had requested. Bring your own water supply to drink! Water from faucet was putrid. Front Desk could have been more gracious. Weather too cool to use pool area. No restaurant even though it says there is. Doubt we would consider ever staying there again. This is not the fanciest hotel, but it has a great location and affordable for us during our stay in Monterey. Our room was clean, quiet, and convenient. We had a little private patio, but we didn't use it during our stay. Bed and pillows were comfortable, and the fireplace was a nice touch. Microwave and fridge were nice to have. Tons of hot water and good water pressure in the bathroom. No weird smells or anything. AC/heating unit worked well and was nice to have a ceiling fan in the room to circulate the air. Parking near the aquarium can cost $40-$70. It might be worth taking an Uber there and back and it's located about 10 minutes from the lodge. There is a new Poké bowl spot steps away and we had that for dinner on our first night. Gas station convenience store was a plus as you could get anything you needed at most hours. I didn't use the pool or need anything from the vending machines, but it's always nice to have those All in all, a pleasant 2 night stay. Again, not the fanciest or most updated hotel, but it was clean, affordable, and super convenient. If I'm in the area again, I wouldn't mind staying here. read more

This was extremely disappointing. The first morning we woke up there was construction. We room did smell mildewed. The only window in the room is the sliding glass door, no air conditioning, which is really fine, but we couldn't leave the door open as the screen door lock was broken. We left a day early because of the above, and they refuse to refund us he one night. Very poor experience. read more

ECONOMICAL & COMFY! I absolutely love the Monterey Bay Lodge, it's near several public parks and a few blocks away from the ocean! It's one of Monterey's brightest lodging offerings and great for quiet nights! The beds are VERY cozy, I didn't want to leave my room! Each room comes with a coffee maker and rich hot chocolate. The Monterey Bay Lodge has a courtyard with lights, a pool & jacuzzi, and green lawn to relax. The pool is protected by a gate which requires a key to access it. The courtyard was lovely and a breath of fresh air after a long day's drive. The Lodge also has a guest computer in the main office. My minor concerns included the showers in the rooms being very tight, it made it hard to shower. It wasn't awful but it was definitely challenging. The staff could be a bit friendlier, the front desk lady with the Indian accent was a bit too rough and not very professional. She didn't give a warm welcome and her information was limited. Parking was easy, the lot is accessible to the rooms and I felt our vehicle was safe at all times. A gas station is nearby if you get the munchies or need to fuel up for the day. Most importantly, the Lodge is CLEAN! Everything smells fresh and the staff regularly change the linens! I observed the staff cleaning and every pillow, blanket, and cover was bright white, no stains here. It was perfect! read more

I was happily surprised but this little lodge. Light in amenities but great in hospitality and charm, this lil lodge is situated across from a path to the beach. After a couple of nights, I decided to stay one more but was unable to keep my room. I ended up moving next door, which had a king bed rather than the queen I was in. I didn't mind, it was a last minute request. However, it would have saved them money if they had kept me in my room and charge me the higher rate. They would only have had to change my room once, I would not have dirtied another set of bedding and towels. All in all great hospitality and locality all in one. read more

This place was sort of a mixed bag for us. On the bright side, the front desk was friendly, and the bed was comfortable. They also had this really nifty courtyard that was beautifully lit up at night. We also enjoyed the swimming pool and hot tub which was open until 10 PM. On the downside, there is no elevator, and we had a lot of things to lug up stairs from our car. Also, there is no air conditioner, so to get rid of the stuffy, humid air in the room, we had to open the sliding glass door on one side and the windows on the other to get some ventilation, but that introduced a lot of noise from the road. On the bathroom side, you could also hear the sea lions, which was sort of amazing. There was no breakfast, no coffee, no hot water or anything to be had in the mornings other than the coffee maker in the room, which made some of the worst coffee I've ever had, probably due to tapwater quality issues. Possibly recognizing how crappy the tapwater is, each person gets a pint size bottle of bottled water when they check in, and additional bottles cost two dollars each. Location wise, it was off the beaten path a bit so you would have to drive to Cannery Row. It was OK though because our plan was actually to visit Carmel-by-the-Sea and also do the 17 mile drive. read more

Stayed 3 nights, Sun. - Wed. Recommended by our Son who stayed here in March and really liked it. Wish we would have been informed about the parking lot paving that had us parking on the street and woke us up daily at 7am and was loud all day. Besides that this is a nice boutique style hotel. We had a king bed w/ fireplace. If they we were allowed to park in parking lot we had a designated spot at our room. The pool, hot tub and courtyard is very nice. Other reviewers mentioned no breakfast or aircon. We had a cooler in our room & a fan. Rarely is it hot in Monterey. Opening the front door & sliding glass door does the trick. The rates are very good for the coast so I am fine with no breakfast. There is a fridge & microwave. We walked to cannery row & the aquarium (2 miles). We walked around the el Estero Lake next door. A great spot. Looking forward to staying again but I will call ahead to make sure I can enjoy all the amenities on property. read more

Cute little motel! We loved the center area with fire pits and seating, and the pool was nice. The bistro lights outside were also very cute! As for the room, it was pretty good considering the fact it's an older property. Bed was comfortable, bathroom was clean, and decor was nice (if not simple). We got a king bed with the fireplace, and we probably won't get the same room again--the fireplace was a nice touch, but not for the price tag! The location was the best part. In front of the lake, an 8 minute drive to old fisherman's wharf, and only one road separating us from the beach--it's hard to beat. Cute motel! I loved that it was dog friendly, but I will say there were 0 places on property for them to use the bathroom- but there is a great park across the street to walk them! You are also conveniently located a block from the beach, and extremely close to the pier and aquarium. They had a great pool, hot tub, and a nice fire pit seating area to lounge in. Two things to note- no breakfast and no air conditioning so it did get hot in the room. They do give you one fan though! Overall it's a super cost effective stay and conveniently located! read more

My bf and I just got back from a 3 day trip to Monterey and stayed here and I totally loved it. The staff was hella accommodating and helped me when I locked myself out accidentally (big oops) and when the vending machine wouldn't give me my Gatorade. The room was clean and nice, I wish it would've been a little bigger but honestly that's my fault I should've called and asked beforehand. The outside area is soooo relaxing the tree is rad and the little fire seated areas were great to have my coffee at. The hot tub and heated pool were so nice and definitely needed for a couple day away trip. Had a great time and we will for sure be staying here again in the future read more

My bf booked this place through a third party for our one night in Monterey and, I feel like at beautiful famous location like Monterey, hotels that are right next to the beach will be the mom and pops and smaller hotels instead of big chains one. It's sometimes good, and sometimes bad, depending on the management of these smaller hotels or motels or in this case, lodge. We had an easy breezy check in process. Our room was on the second floor at the corner looking out to the ocean. The room did have a weird smell when we entered and it reminded us very much of this one motel we stayed at in Washington near Mr. Raineer. That said, our room was very clean and actually spacious. One thing I really like about this place or in particular, our room, is that the TV is pretty big for the size of the room for a lodge and it was pretty new. They must've upgrade. I also like how the ceiling was high and vaulted. Probably only for top floor. The bathroom itself was okay, it was old for sure and def looked like it was remodeled or repainted few times. I didn't expect much and it actually turned out pretty good. Bed was comfortable and I like that there were lots of space on both side nightstand. I would recommend you stay here if you visit Monterey. read more

After extensive research I found this spot and liked it due to it's location. I booked 2 rooms. The front desk attendant was professional. Not nice, not rude, just doing her job of checking us in. 1 room, their ac didn't work. But, it's Monterey, so as long as their sliding door was open, we got enough air. The heater did not work, so at night, the room was a bit chilly. Everything worked just fine in the other room. Parking is rather small so if you arrive late to your check-in, good luck. Very cute & relaxing lodge. Staff was very friendly, helpful & accommodating even when we decided to stay an extra day to keep us in the same room. Kings Room was clean and very convenient with parking right in front of our room. Loved the sliding door out to the courtyard seating area with the pool just a few feet away. At night the courtyard is so relaxing to sit out there with the fire pit & just chit chat & take in the area with all the lovely plants flowers trees. The lodge is across from a lake & park. Across from the beach and like a 10/15 min walk along the beach to the wharf. About a 10/ 15 min drive to the aquarium. We enjoyed our stay very much. read more

Booked 2 nights here with my kids for a trip to the Aquarium and kick of to a longer road trip. We arrived a bit before check in and the front desk lady quickly checked if our room was ready and let us check in a little early. She was friendly and helpful and after a 5 hour drive that little grace was very welcome! Our room was clean and spacious with a mini fridge, microwave and small Mr. Coffee machine. I appreciated having actual coffee cups instead of just paper! Having a door or window in a hotel that opens is always nice. We had 2 windows that open and a sliding door with a shared balcony that overlooked the pool. The location was perfect, super close to the Aquarium, Cannery Row, Fisherman's Wharf, and an easy hop to Trader Joe's for the couple of things we needed. Beds were cozy too! Only complaint was that our room was IN BETWEEN a large family/group(?) and they kept running back and forth between the 2 rooms shouting and shreiking and slamming the slider over and over. Not the end of the world, and we'd stay again without a doubt, but, poor planning on someone's part! read more

Just in town overnight touring CSU Monterey Bay for our Son. Searched around for a convenient and affordable no frills place to stay that is comfortable and clean. This was a great choice as it was close to The Wharf and the Cannery Row and Downtown. Only draw back was an occasional jet landing at the nearby airport but they were far and few. Fire pit in patio was nice for the Wife and I to cozy up to. Great stay. Would recommend and stay again. read more

We've stayed here several times over the years in different rooms. Obviously, it's ok as we return but I'm a little shocked by the recent cost. We got a "family" room with a double bed and bunk beds. $350/night. Bed was so squishy it was uncomfortable and laughable as two grown adults we tried not to roll out. The bunk bed was rickety with loose screws. Can you say safety hazard? The toilet was scary. Like afraid to get sucked down the pressure was so high scary. The floor rumbled when it flushed. I felt badly for our downstairs neighbors. We got three teeny towels for the whole family in said family room. We pulled straws to see who skipped their shower. Pool was fun for kids and hot tub was nice. Until pool tech asked my daughter how the chlorine was and we realized there wasn't any in it. Everyone is friendly and we like the proximity to the beach. We had enough space. Fridge and microwave is nice to have. But for $350/night, I imagine you could find something nicer. read more

I read all of the reviews so I am not sure why the reviews were so good. We paid a little bit more bc I wanted our own parking space. We were just staying for a pit stop so the amenities didn't matter to us. We walked into the room looked around and left. It is filthy and unsafe. Please see the pictures. The door looks like it was kicked in then repaired with dap or spackle. There wasn't a lock up top. It smelled gross too. We went to the front desk to let them know the condition of our room and showed her the pictures, she told us that the room looks clean to her. I asked for my money to be returned to us so we can go somewhere else. She couldn't do a return she has to ask management. THIS PLACE WAS THE WORST HOTEL DISASTER OF MY LIFE. If I could give it negative stars, I would. Monterey Bay Lodge sent me an email indicating the pool and hot tub were out of commission and couldn't be used. Bummer, buy okay. I was ready for a peaceful stay. When I arrived, I found the woman who checked me in to be curt and rude. So off to a bad start. The room wasn't great but would do. I kept my suitcase off the carpet and kept my shoes on. The next morning, I was awakened very early by a jackhammer and generator outside my room. It was ear splitting. I called the front desk and spoke with the employee there. He said the noise would continue until 4pm or so, and they were "sorry for the inconvenience." I asked them to adjust my bill accordingly and asked if they had another room or property they could move me to. I was paying top dollar for, you know, a place to get a decent night's sleep. I never raised my voice. The front desk worker called back after speaking with the owner. He stated they decided I HAD TO VACATE THE PROPERTY IMMEDIATELY AND THREATENED TO CALL THE POLICE ON ME. You read that right. The police. He said I had TEN MINUTES TO GET OUT. I took videos of the noise. I also took a video of the vacated room and of the hotel employee inspecting the room so they couldn't claim I did any damage and try to keep my money. Then this employee pivoted between threatening me and profusely apologizing and asking me to believe he's "not a bad person." Absolutely NUTS. Finding another hotel last minute took hours and wasted most of my day. What if I'd had kids or elderly travelers with me? It was hard enough finding another place on the fly, but it would have been impossible with kids. I asked for a refund on my way out, and the front desk worker tried to falsely claim they could keep my money because I made the reservation through a third party. Except that I made it directly with the business. They refunded some money, but certainly kept plenty as well. SAVE YOURSELVES. tl:dr I politely complained about jackhammer noise outside my window after paying them a ton of money. They immediately threw me out of the hotel and threatened to call the police on me. Finding another hotel wasted my day. The front desk worker pivoted between threatening me and profusely apologizing for it. They didn't refund all my money. It was bananas. 5/28/24 I just read the Monterey Bay Lodge's response. Since when is walking around a lobby while waiting and looking at activity brochures considered "belligerent?" I never raised my voice and also waited patiently sitting in the lobby chair. 10/18/24 First time staying at this hotel. I booked online and was pleasantly surprised when we arrived. The location is the best. It sits across from a lake and only 3,000 feet away from the beach. I love the walking/ bike trail that runs along the beach. The walk to the Old Fisherman's Warf was very short. We also walked to Cannery Row. Again, great location! The rooms are clean. No air conditioner but you get a standing fan. We stayed in the second floor. There's a wrap around porch that allows all the rooms in the second floor access to 2 seats facing the pool. I love the sliding door that gives you a nice view and breeze. I appreciate the large flat screen TV. King size bed was very rooms and comfy. The only issue we had was the shower head. We hardly had enough water pressure to rinse off our shampoo. Please fix this for a higher rating. I like the quietness surrounding the hotel, in and about. Staff at the front desk were very friendly. We even received a free bottle of water for each guest. Thanks! read more

This was a really great little hotel to stay at when for visiting the aquarium! Check-in was completely painless and we were offered complimentary water bottles! The room was clean and well-stocked. There was a shared balcony overlooking the pool and courtyard, perfect for drinking coffee in the morning. The only real complaint I have is that there was no secondary lock on the front door or the sliding door, which made me a little nervous staying with small children! Other than that though, the quality was really great for the price! We would absolutely stay here again! read more

It's older but super clean and well kept. The location is excellent for a walk to the beach and the neighboring park. Staff were quick with check in and helpful when we asked about a breakfast place. The room was spotless, no weird smells, everything worked, windows opened easily, and there was good water pressure. It's older buildings but recently painted and updated. The outside is very well maintained with chairs and tables for guests, landscaping is beautiful with flowers throughout, good fencing around the pool and hot tub. There was plenty of parking. From the map the neighborhood looks a little sketchy being close to a gas station and the main road but it's quiet, super quiet, we had the windows and sliding door open all night and didn't hear anything. I would recommend this place; it didn't feel budget. Cleanliness and maintenance I'd say it's better than the Embassy Suites by SFO. The only somewhat negative is that there's no breakfast but we saved more money on the room and going out than we would have at a 4 star hotel on Cannery Row. read more

Great location. 3 minute easy walk to a fantastic beach (time depends if you hit the single crosswalk green or red). We walked through Fishermen's Wharf, Cannery Row and to the aquarium- it was great and about a mile one way from the motel. Older motel but maintained very well. We found the bed to be very comfortable. No AC but we never needed it. Clean grounds with lovely sitting areas under the trees and fireplaces. Very nice pool but we especially appreciated the hot tub after being out and about all day. Very friendly employees. read more

The best part about this place was location. Walking into the room was a real let down. The room was not clean, but smelled of strong floor cleaner. The bed was not comfortable and there were three tiny pillows. The laminate floor had a huge crack in it where the planks were pulling apart. The bathroom was again dirty and no space to put your toiletries. The pool was cloudy and dirty. When checking out the guy at the desk couldn't be bothered to answer my question. First floor with parking right outside the door. Pool looked nice but it was a bit chilly to jump in. Room was fairly large with a patio you could walk out on with two chairs and a small table. The bathroom held a shower equal to the smallest I've ever used. If you bend over, part of you will be hanging out of the shower. Water pressure was excellent! read more

It was a nice place to stay. The back slider led outside to the swimming pool and hot tub. There was a table and chairs to enjoy the sounds of the bay on the back porch. My boyfriend and I booked this hotel last minute and came with no expectations but we ended up really enjoying our stay here! The front desk ladies were so kind. Pricing was accurate and there were no "surprise" or extra fees. The pool and spa were heated and open daily, we loved that. Room and bathroom/shower was clean. The rooms have a microwave, mini fridge and coffee maker, which is really appreciated and came in handy. The location is close to the Wharf and a really nice walking path, lots of restaurants nearby as well. And the area around is not loud, no heavy traffic and such. read more
