As surprising as it might seem to an outsider, Salinas has an adorable old town. Plagued as this…read moremodern farm town is with gang issues, they do have a few cute blocks of an old town. I took a break from driving down the 101 because of terrible traffic and found my way to old town. I went into Rooms In Bloom because I needed a nice Birthday gift for my Mother and this store seemed to have a very nice selection. This is right up her alley. I like a lot of the things too, but my style is a little more modern...and maybe funky? I got her a cute re-usable Lunch bag, and a tube of fancy scented hand cream, but I could have easily gotten a few more things like beautiful candles, a really nice tray, 3-wick candles, pajamas that were adorable, dishtowels, and more. If you're wondering, yes, my Mom is the sort of lady who loves to decorate her home, cook, and garden. It was hard to choose something on a budget, but the lady working was cute and nice and just let me browse without bothering me, but agreeing with me when I oohed- and-aahed over all the stuff. I also bought myself a couple of hair clips. I like stores that sort of divide their goods into themes or 'genres' and they do this here. I didn't have much time to browse the kids section, but they had a cute area of the store for children and babies. Perfect for shower shopping. Okay I think I said cute about 3 times in this review- do you get the point!? Also, it smells good!

Botanic and Luxe combines all my favorite shoppable things into one place: gorgeous healthy…read moreplants, local delicate jewelry, pillows, baskets, handcrafted goodies, candles and other scented gifts, wall art, travel and cook books, fine kitchenware. I mean seriously, did someone read my journal of Favorite Things and create this store just for me?!! L-O-V-E! There is no walking around downtown Santa Cruz without stopping by Botanic and Luxe. I have purchased gifts here as well as framed art (with a locally-made wooden frame) that hangs in my home, and recently attended their anniversary event where they had local vendors serve matcha and desserts, and they provided 20% off the entire store, so naturally I went home with another plant baby. Even though the store was PACKED with customers, they asked me if I needed help twice and also spent time giving me plant care instructions! Botanic is a higher-end plant shop, so expect to see some matching "luxury" prices as well. But people don't usually come here to get the best deal; they come to feel a certain way while they peruse a beautiful shop that sources many items locally, to get a certain level of service, and to be ensured a certain quality of product.

I absolutely love this cute little spot in Santa Cruz. I have a little tradition that every time I…read morecome here I buy a new plant. The day I bought the cutest little mini monstera. They also have a wonderful variety of different artisan crafts and very delightful scented oils. If you want to uplift your mood, come into botanic and lux. In a good mood immediately with all their soothing music and they're gorgeous atmosphere. The service is always very friendly and I plan to patron this place very often.

Just follow the little walkway tucked in between Ace Hardware and CVS Drugstore and turn left to the doorway of Consignment by the Sea. Even if you are just browsing, you will be glad you took this detour. The variety here is staggering, as well as the delightful lack of predictability from vintage and antique creations. Thanks to this store, there is a delightful large Japanese screen gracing our living room, with delicately painted pine branches. We also discovered a pair of red porcelain lamps, a black Japanese laquer chair with an ottoman, upholstered in a red geometric pattern, a leather topped coffee table with scroll legs, and four black upholstered modern dining chairs. The value of vintage furniture is that you can find solid wood, brand name pieces for a fraction of the cost at department and furniture stores. They even sometimes feature complete suites of the same style of furniture. A tip is to keep youe eye on the prices as the long the items are in the store, the less they are. They also sometimes have discount days here. The decorative items are also varied and fascinating. I recently saw a beautiful silk obi sash displayed on a chair and some delicate porcelain teacups. This gem is a must-browse each time I visit Carmel.

I was mostly interested in the purses, as usual, and spent most of the time I was there checking them out. They have two large bookcases stuffed with bags, plus there are more spread around the store. Some of the designers are Prada, Coach, Kate Spade, Michael Kors, Vera Bradley, Marc Jacobs, and more. I was helped by the most wonderful sales associate named Wendy. She was so friendly and kind that she made it a joy to shop there. I ended up buying a pink boho scarf that was on sale for 50% off. Looking forward to returning to Manifest with my mom and sisters, who I think will like it as much as I did.

I had an extremely unpleasant experience at Manifest and will not be returning…read more The pricing system is deceptive and predatory. The price tags have three different prices listed on them, and the system is not clearly explained. The owner mentioned it very briefly, and from what I gathered, the bottom price (the cheapest number) was the final price. Based on that understanding, I selected my items. When I went to check out, the total she gave me seemed unusually high. After reviewing the receipt, I noticed several items didn't align with the prices I believed were indicated on the tags, which she cut off. I went back to the counter simply asking for clarification. Instead of calmly explaining, the owner became very hostile. She told me she "didn't have time for this" and said my questions were going to "mess everything up." She then pulled me outside of the store and spoke to me as if I were a delinquent or a child being scolded, which was completely inappropriate and humiliating. She even said, "It may be harder for you to understand," which was insulting and condescending. She went on to say that giving me a refund would be a, "shit show and mess up the whole inventory system" and that her clients would be pissed placing blame on me for a misunderstanding caused by her misleading and poorly communicated pricing system. The last thing anyone wants when they walk into a store is a lecture on how pricing works. You're there to shop and enjoy yourself not to be pulled aside, talked down to, or pestered by the shop owner because their pricing system isn't clear. Although she ultimately gave me a refund, it only happened after she made me feel small and criminal for asking a reasonable question. I have never experienced customer service like this at any other thrift store let alone any other business. Customers should not be made to feel intimidated or embarrassed for questioning confusing pricing. Proceed with caution if you shop here.
