Horrible customer service from cashier. If you come here on a lunch break don't expect to make it back on time, and not because of the wait or customers, it's because they don't know how to charge your bill. Our family LOVES Carmela's - best queso and hot sauce in SE tex! Good food for a decent price as well. Service is typically good as well.

Stopped in for lunch. Seated immediately by a cheerful hostess. Was waited on immediately and placed our drink orders. Then ordered the Carmela's May Bueno Lunch Special. It came out quickly, was hot and delicious. Everything was great. I'll be back. read more

The service at this restaurant was horrible! Not to mention that I could see all of the staff in the back with their face masks pulled down to their chins. We got there at 10:00am and ordered the migas which are simple scrambled eggs with tortillas, well 30 minutes later we still had no food and the waitress hadn't even came to check on us. There was also people waiting to get their to go orders who had been waiting for over 15 minutes. I got up to get the attention of the staff and to tell her that I was dissatisfied with their service and her reply was "well sir you have to understand we are short staffed." There was only one other couple in the restaurant and there was at least 6 staff that I saw... one was even sitting on a chair fanning her face with her face mask. We used to love ordering from Carmela's but the phone service has been terrible lately! Tonight I called 6 times over 15 minutes and kept getting a busy signal then finally got an answer but all slept said was hold please, and didn't even let me speak! I'm still on hold 14 minutes and 32 seconds later ...just waiting to speak with the owner now. We already called in our family's dinner at Tony's (great fajitas there!) and my husband already left to go pick it up. This is unacceptable business behavior and it has happened several times but they usually say "our phone system has been acting up" no...your lazy employees are putting someone on hold to tie up the phone so they don't have to deal with to go orders. I stopped in to grab some chips and queso to go. I think it's a pretty general consensus that you can't have queso with no salsa. When I saw there wasn't any and asked, I was informed that it was extra. Ok cool, no big deal... But $16.42 for a medium queso with salsa and chips? That's ridiculous. The young girl working the counter was smacking her gum in my face the whole time and I don't think she grasped how outrageous that is. I get home with my food, and the chips are extremely stale. I'm almost positive these chips had to be from yesterday. I usually have a decent experience at Carmela's, but today was definitely a let down. There are only about a thousand other Mexican places to eat around southeast Texas. This place needs to step it up or they will be easily replaced by better options. read more

Typical SETX Tex-Mex style food. Nothing spectacular but pretty good. Not at all authentic Mex. food. Was suggested to try this place by many SETexans in search of authentic Mex. food but it isn't. Servers though were extremely attentive, nice and helpful. Don't think I'd go back but would go with someone who wanted to eat there. read more

The food here is the best Tex Mex in town. The chips and salsa are really the best I have ever had. They call it "hot sauce." The wait staff was very kind and attentive. We are regulars at this restaurant and we have travelled to many places for business and this is the best it gets. The chicken was some of the best and most tender. Food was mediocre and over priced for portion size. Service was horrible. Our waitress came by the table three times- to bring drinks, take order, and deliver food. I love going there. their chips and salsa are delicious. So is their chile con queso! their fajita salad is delish, My son loves the tacos there. And i like how good their waiters are but i especially love this one waiter who works there named Juan. He made sure we had everything we needed even before we needed it. He had a very enjoyable personality and even tho he had a lot of tables he never seemed rushed and always made sure everything at every table was ok.
