We waited 1 hour and 10 minutes from the time we placed our order to we received it. Not one time did anyone especially our server say anything about the wait. Not sorry or it's coming soon. This is hard to believe we had employees pass us like 100 times. The other challenge is the fries and the ribs Luke warm and my sandwich was just warm. All of the food tasted good but would have been better hotter. I do believe they had an event that slowed the service down. Not being spoken to is what challenged us. Like most people, we stumbled across Carmie's before checking in to the Hampton Inn next door. I have to say, my group and I were pleasantly surprised. About three minutes after arriving, we were greeted by our server. There were about two other groups of people in the restaurant, but we were seated immediately upon arrival. We sat down to find paper place mats with local advertisements on it- something that reminded us of a classic New Jersey diner :). The atmosphere was fairly pleasant and it had a bit of a bar vibe to it. There was even a claw machine next to our table. Our food arrived approximately 20 minutes after we were greeted by our waitress with appetizers and drinks coming out almost immediately. Our mozzarella sticks come out relatively warm and with a side of marinara sauce. We also ordered pretzel bites and I must say, the big portion was gone in a few minutes- they were really good. As a main course, I ordered a full size of the chicken chunks. I received a large portion of bite sized chicken bits that were pretty tasty. We also ordered a chicken salad and what I believe was a burger (although looking back I'm not seeing one on the menu). Both of these meals came out as expected and suited our needs. If you're in a similar situation as us, I'd highly recommend giving Carmine's in Tiffin a try! read more

When I pulled into the parking lot of the Hampton Inn on Sunday afternoon for my 10 night stay, I noticed this place but wondered if it was even open based on the two cars in the parking lot. It came up in my restaurant suggestions but I'm not much for BBQ so I really didn't have any plans to visit. My 3 co-workers wanted to give it a try on Wednesday night so after a glance at the online menu I decided there were a few things that I might care to try and decide to go along. We tried 3 appetizers (mozzarella sticks, shrimp basket, and onion rings). As we dug in to these, we were like "Wow" this is pretty good! I ordered the 3 cheese chicken with a side of tater tots. Very tasty! My coworkers enjoyed their entrees as well. One commented that it was the best wrap she had ever had. Our server Nyzziah was delightful and played along with our childish humor like a pro. Six more nights in town and we all definitely plan to return. read more

The soup was a bit watery, sandwiches were good, the buffalo chicken flatbread was overpowered with sauce... overall everything was pretty "meh". I was staying at the Hampton next door to this restaurant and did a yelp search like I usually do in a new town. I checked Yelp and the ratings looked horrible. While I was checking into the hotel, the very polite person at the front desk suggested the BBQ place next door. He said he had suggested many times and never heard a negative review. I really didn't feel like getting back in the truck so I gave it a try. I stuck with the basics and ordered a pull pork sandwich, French fries and Mac & cheese. Well, it says BBQ in the name, but there are only a few bbq options on the menu. Most of the menu consists of burgers, chicken, wraps, flatbreads, and a few other non-related items. Carmie's is in the same building as the Camden Falls Conference Center. So you have a beautiful building then suddenly there is a screen door which looks completely out of place. There is a bar as soon as you walk in. Turn right to enter the restaurant seating area. My daughter and I were leaning towards getting bbq and were surprised that there were so few options. She ended getting a mushroom burger with the chips and a tossed salad. I got the chicken caesar salad wrap with chips and baked beans. The burger was fine although the mushrooms were not fresh. She ended up taking them off her burger. Her salad consisted of a mound of iceberg lettuce, 4 cherry tomatoes, and some croutons on top. I didn't care for my chicken wrap. The beans weren't bad. There was a ton of pork in it. The chips were really good. We considered getting dessert, but since we were not impressed with the food, we decided just to head back to our hotel which had cookies. I will say that our server was wonderful, but the food was not. We visited this restaurant because it was close and we thought it was a bbq place. If I could give minus stars I would, we were in Tiffin visiting our son on Easter weekend. Our son suggested Carmies we all ordered different things my guy got a rack of ribs. Needless to say he was awake all night vomiting and with diarrhe. We drove 3 hours to spend Easter with our son and his girlfriend and Easter was my guy's birthday. So my guy spent the entire day in the bathroom we had reservations at a restaurant in tiffin for Easter dinner and he made us go while he laid on our sons couch sick. He was sick for several days. If it was a virus I would have had it so we were pretty sure he had food poisoning. This place needs shut down. FYI they have had several food inspectors violation. Saying the service is lacking would be a compliment. And the food was always disappointing (tried several items). Be extremely weary of the 5 star reviews at this place. Although they've revamped their menu recently, which they've done numerous times in a scramble to right the ship, the new menu is even more broad than the last. What is it that you do, Carmies? Is it pasta? Is it bar food? Is it BBQ? The broadness of the menu suggests an unfocused approach with no mastery. Their new BBQ approach is unpolished, and as an avid BBQ technician, I can tell you that their meat selection is sub par at best. The rub is unbalanced, and the smoke flavor is overwhelming. Subtleties are what make BBQ great, and this attempt totally misses the mark. I've been forced numerous times to come here, and have been disappointed every time. I've eaten most renditions of their menu, and have also had their event catering, and could, in no way, recommended this place to anyone; ever. read more

The food had great flavor. The baked beans were great and portions were big. The tater tots were plentiful and I had a half slab of the ribs and they were so great flavor wise but were alot of work to cut and chew. Could have cooked longer but had great taste. I will get the pulled pork next time. The staff was very friendly. It will earn a 5 star soon I am sure. My hubby had the brisket, fries and Carolina slaw. Very good ! read more

While it wasn't as hot as we expected, it had some quite good flavor. Their selection of beers (draft and bottle) are pretty good. The first time I went here..I thought it was pretty good & it has slowly declined until we have pretty much written it off. The food itself is decent but the wait staff is not the best. We had one waitress tell us upon ordering some chicken chunks, that the sauce comes on the side because the cooks will "get mad" if we asked them to apply it to the chunks. The appetizer sampler comes with chunks, chips, potato skins, mozarella sticks...BUT like one sauce. If you ask for sour cream for the potato skins or any exra sauces (which are small) you are charged extra. At about $10 for the platter, I would think the sauce could possibly come with it. We've had a few other experiences that weren't great..getting a chicken sandwich that was almost all gristle is a total turnoff. *Update: We have since taken them off our list to NEVER go here again. The last time we went which was about a year ago, we got undercooked wings, a bowl of gelatinous tomato tortellini soup which had about 3 tortellinis. The rest of the soup was cold and almost like canned tomato soup that was condensed and did not have any liquid added to it. It was the most disgusting soup I ever ate. When we asked to speak to the manager, he took $3 off our nearly $40 bill and complained we ate "some" of the food. ??!! Are you serious?! We could barely get what little down we did and how do you know if something's bad unless you try it? We barely got an apology or offer for something else. Pretty much just you know that you are not valued as a customer. It takes A LOT for me to speak to a manager and I always try to be gracious about it, not snooty or b*tchy so it's not like he was pissed because I had an attitude. These guys came up to Detroit to cater about 50 of us and the BBQ was to die for. I can't attest to the brick and mortar restaurant in Ohio, but I can tell you that the brisket, ribs, chicken, and pulled pork that Alex brought up for us was amazing. Surprised to read the negative reviews of Carmie's ... just happened to check into the hotel next door and smelled the smoker... knew I had to check this place out. I've been smoking ribs and shoulder in my side box smoker.... Lump charcoal & hickory wood only. I've gotten to the point where I am always unimpressed with restaurant ribs. Not anymore. Went with a group for the Lexington brewery tasting 1/21. Great stuff and set up okay for a mod- sized group. Door prizes etc. We really digged the pork and apps. Great job! Suggest maybe pretzels for a smaller snack at each table for the future. Music was on and off or inaudible. It would have been better with maybe one more table with seating and more frequent country or classic rock music in the sound system. Not just a guy yelling. But it was fun.
