It didn't matter whether we went to Schaller and Weber, Karl Ehmer (we had 4 in the area), or to Forest Pork Store we always had wurst for sandwiches, bratwursts, and franks available. One by one the pork stores disappeared from my area like the bakeries did before. First Schaller and Weber, then one by one until the Karl Ehmer up by the factory on Fresh Pond Rd along with the factory. They sold their names. Forest used their store to expand their factory. I got lucky for a brief period because Zum Stamtisch created Stamstisch Pork Store and carried Forrest's product and Ehmer branded product. I could get touristan wurst, braunsweiger liver wurst, and a bologna chub plus whatever else I wanted. Sadly this pork store is set to close as of March 1, 2025. If Stamstisch has no plans for this space it's already set up as a pork store. It would be nice to see Forest come to Glendale close to their old neighborhood. We used to travel from this area up to the Forest Ave store.

Crispy and crunchy, though slightly oily, this tender piece of fried fish hit the spot. Don't forget to ask for the tartar sauce and malt vinegar. Protip: Tell the servers that you will wait for a fresh batch and they will honor that request. They constantly sell out and make a new batch every 15-30 minutes during peak hours.

It's weighed by the pound and the prime time to get it fresh & hot out of the fryer is late morning, though best to come earlier on the weekend. 90% of the products are made in-house, and one can find a dizzying array of cured and smoked meats, multiple varieties of bacon, prosciutti (including hard-to-find duck and lamb!), sausages, salami, pâtés, purées, cheeses, steaks and chops, as well as pickled and jarred foods, canned delicacies, and shelves of dried goods and snacks from Europe. The founders came over from the Balkan region and likewise the counter staff are well-versed in multiple tongues (Serbo-Croatian, Romanian, Hungarian, as well as Spanish) and can fluidly navigate between ethnic product names according to what the customer is asking for.
