My family has sailed on 11 cruises since 2010, 7 of them were with Carnival, 3 with Royal Caribbean, and 1 with Disney. Without going into too much detail, here's my assessment (take it or leave it): - Best food: Carnival, hands down. Call me crazy. Royal Caribbean was spectacular back in 2010, but I would have to say that their food quality has eroded over the years. Still good, but not even close to Carnival. - Best dessert in Main Dining Room: Carnival's Melting Chocolate Cake with Vanilla ice cream. It's so good that I still dream about it. - Tips for a good Carnival experience: Stick with the newer ships if you can, like Vista and Jubilee. The slightly older ones like Freedom and Breeze are fine too, but you can't sail on a 20 year old ship with Carnival and try to compare it with other cruise lines, particularly Royal's new fleet of ginormous new ships like Icon or Harmony (Harmony was spectacular, by the way, but Carnival's food was still better). Also if you're a new cruiser, book a cruise that has as few seadays as possible. - What about the crowds and lines on Carnival? Honestly, it's not too bad. Just expect people to cut and for lines to be long. If you're not into large crowds, I don't know if a cruise is for you, particularly on a large ship with a ton of passengers. Overall, Carnival gets 4.5 stars in my book. Their customer service isn't the best overall (speaking of which, did anyone try calling their customer service with a question during COVID? The service was laughable...) but the price point and the quality of food still makes them freaking awesome. We are currently Gold VIFP members; can't wait to hit Platinum! read more

Carnival bigger ships are being produced, but Royal Caribbean is their biggest competition. And i loved my RC cruise some many things to do and the food was amazing. Carnival Dream and other ships needs a better selection of food on arrival, if I board one more ship to trash , I'm not sure. Last cruise some mystery meat with vegetables, pepper steak served with fries instead of rice. Cabins can the carpet be pulled up , it holds allergens. I seem to dine in the dining room every night , because I enjoy the setting. Buffet seems like feeding time at the zoo. I have lost plenty of family members searching for an available table . Overall no complaints looking forward to future cruises . Only way to avoid the headache of ccustoms locating restaurants and accommodations for family members . Yes Carnival is a major pain to get Checked into... it is chaotic organization that lends its self to long liines and lots of wait Timmer, but they get you on eventually. Once on tHeir cruise ships are a plethora of activities, fun schedules, food, drinks and all day excitement! Relax if you want... they will get it for you. Party if you'd like... they have lots of options. Eat if that is your desire... it is a never endinng Buffett or dining experience! This is my preferred cruise line above any other I have been on. Took a cruise in June 2019, first time on Carnival, but 3rd time on a cruise. Booked my trip on the Carnival Vista. Flew to TX a few days early to see friends in Austin, and go to San Antonio, and Houston as well. Got notified a few days before we were supposed to board the Vista that there was a problem with the ship. Turned out the ship could not be repaired and could not go fast. So they cruise that was already at sea was going to come back late and instead of my cruise leaving on Sat morning, it would leave on Sun morning and instead of 7 days it would be 8 days. Instead of Belize, Honduras, and Cozumel, it would be Costa Maya and Cozumel. The ship was not able to go fast enough to get to Belize and Honduras. Carnival handled this very professionally and sent plenty of email communication. They gave me 2 options, cancel and get a full refund or go on a modified cruise. They paid for my flight home, gave me $200 in on-board credit, and gave me 50% discount of the total I paid to use on a future cruise before end of 2020. They also paid for an extra day of rental car and hotel. When we got back, the ship went out 1 more time, but then it was going to be going into dry dock 3 weeks early and they paid for 90% of their employees to fly home 3 weeks early, and with pay. I think Carnival handled all of this with class and professionalism. They also had to find more on ship activities to do since there were now going to be extra sea days. All of the staff remained very friendly, positive, and made jokes at their own expense. Matt the cruise director did a great job, made every experience fun and entertaining. he shared some great stories and kept everyone's spirits up, all things considered. He made the best of a bad situation, and tried to keep everyone happy. The ship was fine except that it was slow. There were plenty of food options from the main dining hall, to Guy Fieris bbq, a wood fired oven to cook you a pizza to order, blue iguana Mexican food, and 10 or 11 more options. There is also room service 24x7. The cabin stewards keep your room very clean and make little animals out of your towels. There were sky bikes, obstacle courses, water slides, a private serenity area for adults, pools, movies, a spa, etc. If you haven't experience a cruise you should try it. There is so much to do on board and then there are excursions off the ship at the various ports that you stop at. It is nice to go to sleep and then you wake up at a new port location. You don't have to worry about logistics getting there with flights, rental cars, etc. There are wifi and drink packages that you can buy ahead of time to get a price discount. I think you are allowed to bring a 12 pack of soda with you on board though. read more

My wife,, booked our family of 4 on a cruise. It is going to Cozumel and Costa Maya. My wife is 25 weeks pregnant. We originally booked the cruise for either late June or July, but we thought that would be too late in her pregnancy, so we called Carnival to move the date up. This is when we got the June 8th sail date. We talked to a customer representative, informed them that Angelica was pregnant, and the representative never mentioned anything about the 24-week pregnancy cutoff date. Rules state Carnival will not let you travel this far along in the pregnancy because they don't have adequate health officials onboard in case of an emergency, which is honestly fair. We didn't realize this until a few days ago when it was time to check in for our flight. We were devastated, and my wife was really upset. She has been trying to travel all year, and something just keeps derailing her plans. The representative who rebooked us never asked about how far along in the pregnancy she was or warned us about the rule. We purchased insurance for the cruise, thinking that would save us, but nope. Insurance denied our claim and said that there was nothing they could do in this situation. So you mean to tell me these companies can charge you over $4000 and keep ALL of your money for a customer simply not reading the terms and conditions? How about not allowing customers to pay for a $4k cruise without filling out a mandatory questionnaire before you are allowed to make such a large purchase? This is 2024, you should have the technology to add that to your website. Or how about you train your customer service representatives to probe customers when someone calls and says, "I'm pregnant and would like to change the date of my cruise." Cruise ships are basically a scam and honestly don't care if you sail or not; they just want to lock you in to take your money. I honestly just want my money back. I just finished the 20 minutes online review at Carnival. Overall score: 2/10. If you like being with 4,000 passengers, 25% who are immobile (I have never seen so many electric handicapped vehicles in one place); 10% with Biden;s disease; 50% obese to morbidly obese (and equally rude / oblivious); and most of the balance foreign-born who loaded their plates as if the next asteroid was going to hit the Gulf and it was their last meal) THEN you will love it. I forgot to mention the 20% of alcoholics chained to the A) bar B) the casino C) rolling around as if they were in a Cat IV storm. I suppose that was Carnival's plan all along, if you're bombed out of your mind on $15 (including automatic non-reducible 18% gratuity - als on all paid food) drinks, then the non-existant or off-key "entertainment"; smells of adult Pampers in the cabin sections 24/7; MIA security; flaunting of every rule like no smoking on inside cabins...no offensive tee-shirts or gang wear...etc.; then you won't notice any of the above, right? I am not that hard to please, but when I deliver a four pages handwritten data-driven and professional letter in person to Guest Services and there is no response even post-cruise; then I am a once and done with Carnival and their inane 1940's decor prominent in orange and burnt sienna and a cabin slightly larger than our walk-in closet at home. I recommend for you: "No and never" with Carnival. Heard that from several people who had blind hope that their second Carnival cruise could not possibly be the same or worse than the first. Went out on a 7 day Cruise on the Vista, LOVED the VISTA! We sailed to Cozumel, Grand Cayman, and Montego Bay Jamaica. We had a balcony in the Havana area and we absolutely loved it. We were on Aft balcony on the 6th floor. A LOT of the action very close to our room down to the 5th floor to the WONDERFUL Steak house and SUSHI, and up to the 10th floor AFT for the delicious Italian restaurant. We paid extra to dine twice at the steak house, once at the Italian and once at the Sushi, once at the Seafood Shack. All GREAT choices, but the steakhouse was my favorite. The Havana area is private and you can only access with a wrist band showing you are in the Havana Area. We had a pool and 2 large hot tubs to ourselves and a BAR a few steps from the hot tub and pool where we received excellent service! Our sailing there were 5,000 people on board. I was absolutely shocked to hear this as you could not tell walking around and going to events. Boarding the ship took literally less than 15 minutes to get onboard. The only time we experienced long lines was on the Sea Day Brunch, which was worth the wait. WE loved the Red Frog Bar they had happy hour specials daily and people flocked in there to get these huge drinks they called "fishbowl" I never had one but they were very popular. I would go again on this ship for sure and do the Havana Area again as well. The Karaoke on board was a lot of fun, we played games in the game room/library. Basically just had a very good time. Our friends balcony they opened up for us right next door so we had access to each others balcony. We did have a few hiccups. The first night we were on board we had reservations for the steak house I had booked well in advance, but the reservation was lost. I had emails to show the reservation but the guys we spoke to at the Restaurant were basically "sorry" and that was about it. I was not happy about it but it certainly was not going to ruin my good time onboard! I did not care for the main dining room food and only ate there 1 time. I had a flank steak and it was a bit subpar. Going on another Cruise in May so will update after that cruise!!! read more

I would like to talk about my cruise that I sailed with Carnival on 6/18/22 - 6/26/22. As a customer and a professional in sales and in healthcare, I understand that there are things that are beyond our control. However, I would like to inform you of the disappointment after disembarking the Carnival Dream. First off, booking with Carnival seemed pretty easy. You can either do it yourself or you can speak with a personal vacation planner, who by the way has expressed that if booking this way, you would be able to take advantage of the perks of crediting money back if the same cruise had a cheaper price, be able to change dinner/dining preferences, assist with room layout and really ask any and al questions clarifying the upcoming cruise. I may have emailed my PVP 2-5 times inquiring about covid protocol, the events for children, camp ocean, camp carnival, etc. I kept up regularly with the have fun be safe protocols as they were constantly changing due to health of the nation regarding Covid. One of the disappointments included cancelling the Seuss events that were scheduled and not allowing children under 5 to participate in Camp Ocean or camp carnival. Why? Because according to CDC guidelines, are not eligible to receive the vaccine. Big disappointment! But it was to protect the staff and all carnival cruisers aboard. Ok understood but HUGE disappointment and no incentives to the families that looked forward to this benefit. Second reason - Children who are not potty trained are not allowed the use of the splash pad, slide, or pool. There were SEVERAL times, where I was approached by the staff, asking if my son is potty trained. He is 2 and YES he is potty trained. And if he was not, why would he be able to? Because of Covid? How does any of that make any sense. And when one staff assumed he wasn't, well, that just completely upsetting. He is trained. He speaks and he knows when he wants to eat, sleep, and use the bathroom. As I was keeping up with the have fun be safe protocols, one of the requirements were for the unvaccinated under age 5 was to be tested within 72-24 hours of embarkation, again on the day of sail, which would be provided at no cost. Nowhere on the have fun be safe protocol does it mention there will be a charge for Covid testing, whether symptomatic or not or for personal use It stated: * Irrespective of voyage length, antigen testing will be provided on a complimentary basis to children ages 2-4. Children ages 5-11 will be charged US$60 per person, and guests ages 12 and older will be charged US$150 per person on their onboard Sail & Sign account. Further if someone were in contact or symptomatic your protocols state: In the event guests are in close contact with or exposed to any guest or crew member who tests positive for COVID-19, or display any symptoms for a COVID-like illness during the cruise, they and their close contacts will be required to undergo additional testing and may be required to quarantine in their stateroom until our medical team determines it is safe for them to resume their cruise activities. Guests who are quarantined on board will receive a pro-rated future cruise credit equal to the number of days in quarantine. I asked for my children under 5 to get tested. I never told anyone that my children were sick or not feeling well. I had asked the front desk prior to if covid testing was needed for Nassaus Bahamas and he wasn't sure but heard from a cruiser it is not. To confirm this I looked on the Atlantis website which stated: Atlantis Bahamas Website: UNVACCINATED TRAVELLERS * All unvaccinated travelers ages 2 and older will be required to obtain a negative COVID-19 test -- either a negative RT-PCR test or a Rapid Antigen test -- taken no more than three days (72 hours) prior to travel and present the negative test results at check-in before travel to The Bahamas. This was my very reason for obtaining it. Due to the miscommunication, really on everyone, I lost 4 hours of missed time in the Atlantis, I paid $300 to get the test results from the physician because she said that was the charge and further told me they will need to be retested within 24 hours for an extra $300 (which did not occur by the way) and that was the only time I can get off. What is even more frustrating is even AFTER all that and her EMPHASIS on strict COVID protocols, tell me WHY, when it came to disembark the ship for Galveston, children under 5 had to retest to get off the ship and masks required during time of test. But wait...My 4 year old was the only child required to test and NOT by 2 year old? What kind of strict protocol is this? And lastly, which, you may want to check with your staff. If I as a cruiser am unhappy, I can only imagine what that says for your staff. They are unhappy. There were 8-10 of them who were talking about their contracts and how unhappy they are on this ship. read more

I have been on 5 cruises. 4 on Royal Caribbean and 1 on Carnival Dream. I won't be cruising Carnival again. They have too many restrictions for me and their food is not great. I purchased the drink package. No one told me that it didn't apply to the 1st and last days. I hade to buy my drinks. Also, they give you a limit of 15 drinks a day. The buffet was closed at dinner time. I assume that was to force you to a restaurant so you had to pay. The pool is tiny. the safe in my cabin didn't work. the fridge wasn't cold. The A/C didn't cool. On the up side, the staff was great. They were attentive. Although, they could have used more bartenders. Always a long line. read more

My preference as a traveler is to plan a trip longer than ten days and explore every corner of foreign cities. Wake up at he break of dawn and don't sleep until the vacation is over. No, it's not as good as it gets. Yes, I am a fan, of Carnival the cruise line. Each ship can have a review of their own. The cruise is great, if you want to do nothing but relax, gamble, and get drunk. That's exactly what I did on the Breeze for my 7 day family trip with my kids in March 2017, and what I did on my short 4 day cruise on the Valor this past weekend. Breeze is absolutely no doubt about it better. just kidding. It's the newest ship to the port of Houston. That's a perk, but it's so big. If you like big crowds this is the party for you! Just remember disembarking is not fun ever. Good news, the mandatory meeting is in designated air conditioned auditoriums. The food in my opinion was better on the Valor, from the buffet to the sit down dinner. Keep in mind the Valor is old. The shower seemed to not drain properly. I didn't complain, I showered quickly so the water wouldn't go all over my bathroom. The Valor did have that silly mandatory meeting you have to do on every cruise outside. Everyone lined up liked sardines, sweating profusely! It was awful it felt like forever but I am sure it wasn't more than five minutes. I swear I didn't listen to a word they said because of how uncomfortable I was. I suggest you skip it on the Valor the rule breakers had to do it inside. How awful for them! "tsk tsk." Sailed on the carnival Breeze Sept 26-oct 2. This was our first cruise and all I can say is that I'm hooked. We were on the 7 day cruise that took is to cozumel, Belize and rotana. Let's start at the begging. Embarkation. We arrived in galveston at 930 am. Our check in time was 12 pm. We parked at www.portparking.com. I highly suggest you use this facility as it is safe and the service is impeccable. After we parked the car we were driven to the terminal, we arrived and our luggage was off loaded. We got in line to wait for our turn to board the ship. We waited in line about an hour and then we were moved through the que to security. After security we went upstairs and checked in, we meet with the service agent and finalized our boarding areangements. Everyone was friendly and helpful. We then waited to be called. They on board the ship in stages and we only waited 30 minutes. When our turn was called we started on our adventure. We went to our room and dropped off our carry on luggage then went exploring the decks. Let's talk food. The food is never ending. I gained 6 pounds. Sign of a successful cruise indeed. The lido deck is where the buffet is located as well as the 24 hour pizza and guys burger shack. We ate so much food it was crazy and it was all good. You also have scheduled dinning time and we ate in the blush room. We had a wonderful cruise director, Mike. He always kept the party going and there were always scheduled activitiesl throughout the day. The ship was clean, fun and we were always entertained. Our cabin steward made towel animals everyday. The ports were awesome and the crew did a great job keeping until informed and getting us to our excusions on time. I can honestly say it was an amazing time, money well spent and we have already booked our next cruise for next year. read more

First and foremost- it's my bday! Secondly -'carnival Valor is the worst. I'm currently standing at the safety meeting and 3 ppl have squatted on the ground to avoid heat exhaustion. I'm disgusted at the "show of safety" by having a poor speaker system to describe what to do in case of an emergency. They have tv screens in every room- why not stream the safety procedures Or provide them via the $5 per device app? I am posting this and pics to show the elderly and young about to pass out. The speakers in C9 on the second floor didn't work- hopefully If something happens - we can show our room keys (which we had to stand in a concentration camp Style line to manually hand in and scan. In Honduras (they dock on an island) "mahogany bay", in Belize they anchor offshore and ferry you via small craft, and in Cozumel (a Mexican Island) it is not the same as the "real" Mexican border towns of Laredo, Juarez, Tijuana, and Ensenada. I think that instead of "all you can eat" and $10 drinks, I kind of felt like instead of "kitty litter beach" (paradise beach in Cozumel)- I would have felt better on land rather than having to evacuate the rear pool deck for an emergency coast guard helicopter landing. (The doc gave her the ok to go on a cruise in her 9th month with pending triplets). Seriously Someone said "oh no, there was a woman AND a man. (I wonder what happens if she delivers in international waters, do the children have "international citizenship" I must admit that with a heavy LGBT presence, we ran into a few wives. They were mostly "fem". FYI, even though I am "evangelical" at heart. Through friends and (indirect) experience, most people don't understand that in a gay relationship there is a dominant and a subservient participant. It can just be really confusing to middle Americans when a man gets a sex change to become a woman only to hookup with woman making the best attempt at being a man. (Like chastity bono). They tend to look like "pat" from SNL and almost androgynous- or like "Stewart" from SNL- seriously, but please don't take offense. To be honestly objective, I had to fight the girls off (my wife) and this is the worst place for anyone in recovery. They have alcohol tastings (but if you buy this alcohol, they store it like a gun in court) - you get it when you leave the ship. Food, tobacco, gambling (plus a $65 phone bill) if you're anyplace BUT Mexico. We spent most of our time at "siete y once" (7-11 food store)"on the strip" because the beer was $1 US. Everything else is double the price. The medical doctors there are excellent, because almost everything is OTC. Albeit, if you come "from the ship"- you become an instant piggy bank. You tend to enter a "price rape van" being on an island. On the inside of the ship it honestly looked like Trump towers, and although they sell every T-shirt and bracelet known to man, they are more like "Disney does México" rather then on the mainland, or if you take a 5 minute ride past the main strip, you get to see "the real Mexico". Like unpaved roads, no guardrails with a 200 foot drop off 6" past what seemed to be like Hwy 1 in California. Just to mess with so many "wanna buy a t-shirt" requests, I asked them, do you have " I love trump " and they got offended. By the time I explained how the US really is, I had an audience. I said in Spanish "I don't want a wall!?!" For example: "if I have a pool in my yard do I want to build a wall around it, or should I cut a hole in the fence??? Think about it. Idk? First time on Carnival but not on a cruise. And I have to give them major kudos on everything. Yes when we first got there the line to embark was long but that had nothing to do with the cruise line it was TSA, and for all of us who travel a lot, we know they are slow. Found out though that if I put my TSA prescreen on the boarding pass I could have moved a whole lot faster, oh well live and learn on that one. But once we got on board of course the elevators are slow, well havens it would have been expected with everyone trying to get up them at once but it was ok, we did not have to wait too long for one. Once we got to our room it was nice, clean we had some complementary water from our room steward, his name was JoJo and he was as nice as he could ever had been. Remembered our names every time we saw him, always left us little things (cookies, water, chocolate strawberry's) I mean wow this guy should be moved up if he has that much attention to detail. Bought the cheers package, boo part of it was it does not kick in until the second day, so you have to pay for drinks the first day. Cruise director Schwartz was amazing, always had high energy and kept us very informed of what was going on the ship when we at see, and on port days he always expressed over and over the time to be back. Came to every show we went to and was always getting the audience to interact he was a real joy and lots of fun. If every carnival ship has one of him they will always be great. Then there was Maria at the coffee bar, on the second day she remember our coffees and how we liked them, and as soon as she saw us she started making them, and they were perfect every single time. And to top it off that lady can sing, she has a beautiful voice, I personally think she should be looked at being moved to the shows. Jose from Cozumel, man he knew that ship backwards and forwards. Every time we seem to have gotten lost or could not find what we were looking for he always stopped what he was doing and walked us to where we needed to go. Then there is Olivia in the Havana Bar, I sat down and really did not know what I wanted to drink, so she asked some questions and came back with this chocolate shake looking drink, it was awesome, so good that I had to ask repeatedly if she was sure there was any alcohol in it because I sure could not taste it. Then one night I was sitting out on the deck having a cigar and a pain killer (great drink by the way) When Aleksandar Rakic came up out of the blue and started talking to me, at first I had no idea who the guy was but turned out he is the assistant guest service manager, I never would have guessed that he was so nice and friendly. And every time after that I ran into him he remembered me and always took the time to say hi and shake my hand. You know you sit and read these reviews that give Carnival a bad name and I would love to see these people who write them do the Carnival cruise ship peoples jobs for a month, I am willing to be everyone would be fired within a matter of days. These are some of the hardest people I have ever seen, they are always cleaning and doing something, they never are just standing around like people in customer service are, (IE, the people in your local stores.) I have already booked my next cruse with Carnival and will now only sail with them, I have used the other big ones we all know who they are and they were good at the time, but Carnival blew them out of the water, so not going back to them. read more

This is my review for the Carnival Freedom cruise of 7 days to western Caribbean from Galveston, Tx. This is my second cruise. 1. Embarkation: We flew in Houston Bush airport. Took a cab ride to Galveston for $120 for 2 persons. You can book a shuttle through the cruiseline or shuttle.com. Embarkation can take a long time unless you are there super early or take a chance at the last hour or pay for VIP checkin. 2. Facilities: Typical Carnival decor. A lot of neons, 80 ish style. There are 4 pools, 3 hot tubs, water slide. There is a serenity lounge area for adult only which is quite nice. The gym is nice with plenty of treadmills, equipment, and a whirlpool jacuzzi! The staff does a good job of keeping everything clean. We had a suite so it is spacious for a cruise ship. Bathroom has a double sink, jacuzzi bath tub. There are plenty of closet space, a seating makeup desk. 3. Food: The Guy burger joint and blue Iguana cantin is a nice addition. The burger is freshly made and pretty. The taco is quite fresh! There is 24 hour pizza. The buffet is descent with different choices and menu everyday. The themevis mostly Latin or carribean food. There is a mongolian wok only opened during lunch time. Overall, food is descent to serve 3,000 plus guests. There is no soup choice though not even with room services! 4. Staff: overall nice and friendly! 5. Port entertainment: - Cozumel: Took the Mayan ruin of Tulum tour. $85.99 per person. It is interesting tour but it takes a long time to get there. 1 hour ferry to get to Playa del Carmen then 1 hour bus ride to the ruin. They stopped at a touristy shopping area for 15 min. There is not much stuff to buy there but you can get water and snacks. At the ruin, the tour guy discussed about the history of ruin for about 45 min then you get 1 hour to explore on your own. There is star buck and subway at the entrance of the park. Overall, it is not a bad trip. It is very hot there. So bring plenty of water, hat and sunblock. - Grand Cayman: tender boats will take guests in. If you book excursion via carnival you will get on the tender first otherwise you will have to wait first come first serve. We actually did not get off the ship since my fiance did not feel well. However, other guests were quite happy with the stingrays excursion. - montego bay, Jamaica: We took the Dunn ' s river water fall and Bamboo beach excursion. $99 per person. It is not a bad excursion but it takes a long ride from the port to the water fall (2 hours there and almost 3 hour back because of traffic. ) our tour guides are nice and works hard to make sure everyone have fun. It is not hard to walk up the fall. Make sure you have water shoes or you can buy there for $10. The water is refreshing. Unless your camera is waterproof don't bring it in with you even if it is water resistant. The tour guys at the fall will make a dvd and sell for $40 at the end. Bamboo beach is a small beach area. There are many tourist groups there. They will serve you chicken bbq and unlimited rum punch and mojito. We had 1 hour at the beach then head back to our cruise. If you are in Jamaica it is worth to do it once! 6. Disembarkation: expecting a long long wait! The custom takes a long time! We had our luggage picked up the night before. We were off the boat by 10 AM. 7. Entertainments: there are lacking on the cruise. they have movie placed on Deck 9 by the main pool from 730 to midnight which is the main entertainment! Overall, it is a good option to explore the Caribbean without spending arm and leg! Things must have: - sunblock - hat. It is very hot and sunny in the Caribbean. - bring plenty of water. - they have descent hair dryer. - shampoo and conditioner is very generic. So, you might want to bring your own - medications: beside your daily medications, bring Tylenol, Motrin, med for sea sickness etc. They have some at the Fun store but very expensive. - if you are planning to get drunk, might want to buy there inclusive deals otherwise it is quite expensive. - air freshener. Candle is not allowed on the ship. - hand sanitizer - wifi is very slow even with their best speed option which allow only one device at time. You can access email, facebook, tweeter etc. But forget about working! - bring extra plugs for your device. There is only 2 wall plugs. - for US citizens, you can use passport or driver license and birth certificate. They don't check these at the foreign ports but you do need these documents to check in first time and at the Disembarkation. - mostly casual beach clothes. There are 2 cruise elegant nights at the main dinning. For the cruise casual nights, you can wear jeans at the dinning room. - there are a lot of different ethnicity and age groups. Tips, tips, tips.... EVERYONE begs for tips. It's overwhelming. At the pots it's out of control and we as far as 30 minute speeches as to why we should tip. The cruise place TWO holds on my account and not just one. They refused to acknowledge this and blamed the bank, the bank blamed the cruise line. It was a 6 day nightmare for us and in the end impacted our ability to get a loan for our home because of an overdraft charge. As a whole the breakfast was basically the same boring food every morning. The deli was great...if you're willing to wait in a line where the same 2 people made sandwiches and oddly kept running to the kitchen. Very frustrating. When you dock at a port the majority of people get off the ship and then get back on at the same time...just long enough before dinner that everyone is hungry and the deli line is quite a wait. The burger bar was amazing and the only thing worth the wait in line. We wanted to love the shows in the theatre but they were boring. They were decently executed just not entertaining. The worst part was the schedule. The 1 day after we left was great, so much to choose from!! But then it went down hill, we had trouble with the days at sea since there were not great choices and the last day was the worst. The people in the jewelry store were nice but pushy and the drawing for free crap were long sales pitches. Getting off the ship left a sour taste after the trip. No where near enough people to help with luggage carts. Waited well over 90 minutes and not organization that made sense. That's after waiting an hour in the cafeteria since they make you leave your room early so they can flip the ship. The casino smells terrible and you'll smell terrible after just walking through to get dinner. Sure, you could walk through another deck but the casino deck is where so much is happening and who wants to miss it!? The ship showers are tiny but that's to be expected. Getting clothes laundered was really affordable. Don't even think about relaxing in the spa. After a relaxing massage the BEGGING for more sales begins. So much pressure. She actually told me that I would never need a massage again if I bought this essential oil. So annoying after a really expensive massage. Really expensive. read more

I have a cruise scheduled for this May on the Valor. I paid in full upon booking and added the insurance protection plan. My spouse was recently called to work and we need to change the date to an earlier cruise. When I called Carnival who by the way calls, emails almost everyday to get me to book a cruise with them refuses to discuss my cruise with me after verifying my booking and identity. I booked through a travel agent and have all my information yet was told they couldn't give me any details about my own cruise. The Customer service representative, Natalie was very rude and responded as if I was bothering her. I explained to her I was willing to pay the difference between the change date rates I just needed the information. My travel agent had been quoted something totally different from what another service representative(Perry) informed me of earlier today. This will be my first cruise so far I am not impressed with Carnival or the experience as a whole. I would not recommend purchasing the insurance plan as it is a waste unless you plan on dieing. Do not take their initial customer service when they are trying to get your business as true for this company. They only want you to book then they'll treat you like crap after they have you locked in. Terrible customer service. read more

Carnival Cruise Lines. Just got off the Carnival Triumph. The shower was clogged with a lot of hair floating in a pool of water from the previous cruise. When customer service was called, I was told they had no idea when my shower would be unclogged. I had to scoop out hair myself. Cigarette butts all over my private deck with cigars too. This was finally cleaned on the third day. After cleaning most of this myself so I wouldn't step on them. Shows were cancelled because of leaks on the stage. Their website says adult pool. When I asked about the adult pool I was told this ship did not have one but they had adult whirl pools. These were full of children also. Worst Carnival cruise ever and my last one !!! read more

This was my first cruise and will be my last on Carnival anyway. There are too many complaints about my cruise to list here but some are... 1. The service at dinner times was horrendous. Spent at least 2 hours each time eating in the formal dining room. Missing many shows and events because of it. Also, they got my order wrong each and every time. 2. The entertainment was not that great and the events planned on the boat were sub-par. 3. The items that they said were 24 hours were not 24 hours such as ice cream. 4. The hub app was a joke. Very hard to keep up and running and texting. 5. The ship loss power for 2 hours and to make up time they pushed the ship making it a very very choppy ride to the point of people falling down. 6. The cruise Nickles and dimes you to death. 7. The off boarding of the ship is horrendous. The only highlight of the cruise was Uxmal Mayan ruins. read more

That's how great a cruise is and how much fun Carnival makes them! In the past eight years we've sailed ten times with Carnival and have enjoyed every trip. The Galveston cruise terminal is set up well and the line for embarkation moves at a nice pace. The facilities are clean and nicely air conditioned. If you've never taken a cruise, you'll find that it's very economical with Carnival. When you pro rate the costs it's about what you would pay for a mid-range hotel room each day. Add in the meals and entertainment at no charge and it's hard to beat! read more

Just got home from a cruise on the Carnival Dream & all I can say is DON'T! The food overall is disgusting, there are lines for everything, and it's hard to even get a drink. They nickel & dime you to death, and there's no way you can get in one of the small pools because of them being full of kids. The ship was crowded and there are not enough chairs anywhere. My sister fell on the slick floors & we were told medical wasn't open when we called. The next day, they x rayed her arm and charged her $300 and then told her their machine is old so she should see a doctor when she gets home. There was no concern at all, and they even charged her $15 to put her arm in a sling. Dinner service was actually okay and the waiters were nice, but the buffet is nasty. If you want a nice cruise, this isn't it. I can't believe this cruise line actually has return customers. read more

Sewage Smell Ruined this Experience. I guess it is acceptable to have the smell of urine in the cabins. This is true. At first I thought it was on the floor, but it was coming from the sink or toilet. One cruiser said he just puts a scent on his upper lip to mask it so he can sleep. Really? If you like the Home Town Buffet this cruise line is for you. Horrid Buffet food nearly 24 hours. I heard classier cruise lines have better food? Stick to the drinks. All this aside. You only get one afternoon on wherever you dock. Then back to the tourists and same people on your boat. If you want to experience culture get a hotel or air bnb, go out and eat and drink with the locals. Stay a few days in one spot or even a week. Experience the culture! Not just for a day then on to the next spot. Fake... Lastly. When I told carnival that my room smelled of urine. They offered me a carnival gift and $25 off my next cruise. Too funny! What horrible customer service. Never again with Carnival. Which I understand is bottom of the barrel. Maybe never cruise again? Definitely would pay more and avoid any ship associated with Circus Carnival. read more

I'm currently sitting in the airport making my way home after my first cruise. I am tanned, fat, and happy! My husband is an avid cruise fan, so I felt like this cruise had a lot of expectations to live up to - and it did not disappoint! The food was amazing! After having been on a diet for two months, anything would taste good, really, but I knew I hit the jackpot after my first bite of Guy Fieri's burger. Heaven on a bun! AND IT ONLY GOT BETTER FROM THERE! Thanks to the cleverly placed Taste Bar, we sampled some of the carnitas from the Blue Iguana and knew what we were having for lunch the next day. I could go on and on about the food. The service was impeccable. Everyone from our cabin steward, Anthony, to the waiters to the cruise director, Jen, was incredibly friendly and welcoming. The performers were talented and memorable. One of my favorite moments was watching the pianist Jeremy Ray Borders perform Bohemian Rhapsody. The shows were entertaining, short and sweet. We especially appreciated how they rotated every night so we were still able to catch most of them with our late dinner seating. The only thing I didn't really enjoy about my experience as a whole was the overwhelming feeling that every. single. person. was trying to sell, sell! Carnival Dream out of Galveston, TX. I have sailed multiple times. Carnival's staff are always top notch. In my opinion though, Carnival overcrowds their ships and the experience is what I would basically describe as "paying to be herded like cattle for 5 days". The staterooms are always hot, there are 3,600+ other passengers in line for that same piece of cake or burrito. If you go to the spa you spend at least half your time there being HARD pressured to purchase their very overprices Elemis line of products. It's like the employees won't be allowed to have dinner that night if they don't make the sale. I bought some oil that I didn't like, want or need just so the spa attendant would stop talking for 3 minutes. Miserable. The shows in the Encore Theatre on board are excellent. Those performers give it their all and whatever they are getting paid, they deserve a raise! The stateroom stewards are the best in the biz and I've never hear anyone be disappointed in that service. The food is sub-par at best and the lines are nightmarish. We would skip breakfast just to avoid standing in line for an hour for some eggs. Also, it seems that it is very popular to bring motorized wheelchairs on board. They were everywhere. The elevators are always packed to capacity and people tend to enjoy riding them up and down for the experience rather than to reach a destination. The evening dining experience is interrupted no less than 3 (but usually more) times by photographers that will forcefully take multiple pictures at your table. They do not take a polite no for an answer. They will also bring a costumed person ("a pirate" etc.) around and he will pose with you for a picture, wether you want it or not. So if you sail with Carnival, be prepared to spend your vacation in a life or death battle with an entire ship full of used car salesman that desperately want to sell you stuff. read more

I was on the Carnival Vista last week. If you know anyone who sailed on the Vista recently you already know the story. After booking the cruise 1 year in advance I was informed 3 days before that the ports had been changed due to an engine issue. Ok, not the end of the world. But I wasn't given a cancellation option- so it was either go or lose all of the money I paid for the cruise. Then I arrive and board the boat. Once I'm on board there is an announcement that because of the engine issue that we will be going to one less port and the trip would be 8 days instead of 7. Now I had the option to cancel for a full refund, after I spent all the time and money traveling to Galveston from Austin. I called carnival and said look, you gave me onboard credit and that's fine but I was charged extra by the dog kennel watching my dog due to the last minute change and I would like you to cover that cost. I was told, sorry, we are only covering costs for airfare change. I asked to speak with a manager and I was told "there is no one else to talk to about this issue"......cool. If you are thinking about a cruise don't go with carnival. If you read a news story about a cruise ship being awful I'm willing to bet it will be the Vista read more

Carnival is the Kmart of cruising. On our most recent trip on the Freedom Chloe, the cruise director, had an amazing ability to abuse her loud speaker access every time I feel asleep. Every nap needed to be interrupted with a bingo announcement, turn in early? Hell no, "get out there and keep buying those drinks" is the theme for the 10pm announcements. On the last day they called for "Ashley Hudson" to call guest services at extension 7777 4 times between 4:52am and 5:30. I know because at 5:30 I went to guest service and asked them to stop. They stared at me like they didn't understand what I could be concerned about. As I was walking away the woman picked the phone up and made the announcement again. It was made twice more before 6am. We wouldn't even be able to see land till 7. Carnival's excessive concern for THEIR need to get us off the boat just lost them a customer. read more

We rode carnival Liberty! We definitely had a fun time. I recommend getting a room with a balcony, we stayed on the aft side of the boat and it was amazing. Food is definitely about quantity not quality which stunk because we are huge foodies. The formal dinner and tacos (blue iguana) was tasty. read more

Just Finished Cruise On Carnival Liberty out of Galveston TX. Here's my comments. Boarding was a mess. Board By selected time however all times was mixed into one big crowd and could not hear time slot called or get to gate due to others with later times crowding it. After finishing boarding process, had to wait for about an hour in a holding area. After boarding, required safety briefing was a disorganized mess and required standing on deck for about 30 minutes crammed into a very tight space. Dinner Table reservation was not desirable and on second day when changed was not as requested and worse than first assignment. Bath robe in Stated Room had been worn by previous guest without cleaning. Spa Receipt still in pocket, un damaged by laundry and make up on sleeve. Food was just average with nothing special. Many of the beverage and ice cream dispensers were out of order. The Movie screen on Lido Deck was horrible with many pixels out making it look like a bunch of squares on screen. Pool was drained one day while being cleaned and worked on. Room Steward was very seldom seen, however did keep stateroom clean and made. We had a Balcony room and was unable to use due to smoking on most all balconies around us with smoke and ashes blowing onto our balcony. Shows were just average and mostly consisted of song and dance. Comedians shows were average but many times no place to sit. I felt the entire layout of ship was really difficult to navigate. Many times to get from bow to aft on certain decks was impossible or required going through clubs or dining rooms. De-Barking the ship was a mess with announcements that confused and misled passengers. Self assist passengers were crammed into areas with checked baggage passengers and left to mis their gate chance. All in all on this cruise I feel Carnival failed at providing the experience We paid for. Good bye Carnival. read more

Service on the ship wasn't bad and food was so so.. We just didn't enjoy the fact the each port we traveled to was tailored to or owned by carnival.. We did learn tips from other passengers along the way.. If you want to have amazing shore excursions don't purchase through Carnival because they are severely overpriced and rigged.. Google island marketing shore excursion had few passengers that have used them 3+ years and excursions are super reasonable & family owned and operated with no issues.. read more

This was our first time cruising.We both enjoyed it and the staff go out of there way to make you happy .Jen the cruise director was awesome .We both wore seasick patches but i didnt need them the last 3 days due to the seas being so smooth.The food and entertainment was great.Especially the evening dining .Do youre homework on youre embarcations .If it says all you can eat food and drink thats all you do is eat and drink .What was I thinking ?Bang for youre buck I highly recommend and would do it again .My wife ....not so much she likes to fly and get there .Happy traveling all!Btw this was on Freedom read more

I can't give a fair rating for the onboard experience because unfortunately, I had to get off the ship due to sea-sickness before departure. I was only on board for a few hours-some of the most miserable hours spent in my lifetime! But I will say that Carnival and its staff on board and in the terminal for check-in were outstanding and very friendly. They were very animated and encouraged travelers to get excited for their trip on board the Carnival Triumph. Everyone was very friendly and helpful, although the loads of people pouring on the ship was overwhelmingly uncomfortable. The load of "people traffic" was way too heavy for comfort-and we got there early! I can't imagine being stuck in the middle of that rush! During my uncomfortable experience, the attending staff was very accommodating and did their best to assist me. In conclusion, at least for the boarding of the ship, the staff was friendly, and the experience seemed to be enjoyable for everyone else! I'll never go near another ship if I can avoid it, but if I had to, I'd recommend Carnival to others. For my update, the travel protection plan I had purchased prior to the cruise finally approved my claim and refunded almost 100% of my total payment. I wasn't anticipating this much of a refund, but I HIGHLY suggest buying the travel insurance-you never know what could go wrong! read more

We sailed out of Galveston on the Freedom ship in October. I joked that they should have named it the "Feed 'em" because they did such a good job of that! Salisha, our cabin steward did an amazing job of keeping our cabin nice and making my husband's birthday special with a sign on the mirror, gift card, and extra smiles for us. Our waiters in the dining room were amazing and quickly remembered our names and preferences so we truly felt loved. Malcolm is the cruise directly on the Freedom and talk about FUN! He's so full of energy and bent over backwards to make sure everyone enjoyed their week. The décor on the ship wasn't our favorite, but it was still pretty and we had an amazing time. We've been on lots of cruises and truly think Carnival packs more fun into a boat than anyone else! read more

Carnival Cruise Line are indeed the bottom feeders, worst of the worst---do yourself a favor & go on any other cruise line except them. Their ships are filthy, the food is horrible and most of the staff are rude & unfriendly. Look at the inspection reports posted on line for them and amount of food borne infections they have--you will see this is a cruise line you want to avoid at all costs. We have witnessed many people--both men & women who use the restroom & then don't wash their hands. Because Carnival does not enforce the use of hand sanitizer stations, those people touch the same food that you will be eating at the multiple food venues. I have great doubts about the staff & their hygiene practices as well. Both my husband & I were sick with gastric issues after consuming foods from several areas on their shops. Book with any other American owned cruise line. Our favorite is Norwegian Cruise Line. Norwegian is always clean & sanitary. Their people are always friendly & the food is excellent. Royal Caribbean is also very good. AVOID CARNIVAL CRUISE LINE at all costs---if they are your only option, stay home, you will be glad you did! Me & my husband have only cruised with Carnival, started cruising on our 10year Anniversary. About 18 months ago booked our 4th cruise & our 1st entire family cruise. As you can imagine takes a lot of planning to get 12 plus people coordinate for one cruise, but we managed it. Until today. Called to make final payment & was informed my rooms had been given away. My only options were to loose 1,500 plus dollars to cancel, to loose 700 to adjust dates/ships or settle with the crap rooms left (bottom of the boat with now windows etc, nothing). So now my first family cruise has already started off terrible. This was something we were planning on making a yearly tradition, well we may still, just not with Carnival. It's so disappointing that they really don't care & have really showed no resolution to our issue. I really feel like we got taken advantage of & will now definitely go out & let everyone know of my experience. I have always recommend family, friends, co-workers etc. etc but not no more.
