November 21, 2021…read more AWESOME EXPERIENCE with Captain Clement Jardin!! In honor of my 60th BD on the 23rd...we, "just sit right back and you'll hear a tale...a tale" of 3 gals on the bayou!!! (gilligan's island song reference) The three of us had the best time...Sunday FUNday! It was predicted to be a 40-80% chance of rain ...BUTT, not today Satan...the weather was perfect...hardly any clouds, 75 out and a decent wind...Capt Clement was patient, friendly and informative. I was the captain for about an hour...then I asked my friend to take over...she hesitantly did! We were on a 30 foot sailboat called, "the lift off!" It had plenty of space to sit. While on the water we met several other sailors/captains that Clement knew and we got to talk to from afloat. This outing cost $50 each and we were sailing in Offatt's bayou for 2 hours (maximum is 3 hours but, we all had to pee, so we lost an hour...old bitty's!!! LOL!) All in all, it was a FANTASTIC experience ...very zen. Get this...one friend aboard hadn't been on (any) kind of boat in 38 years (she had been involved in a near fatal boat crash at 14) and today, was the day she conquered that fear of water-crafts. We all learned a lot from Captain Jardin and about ourselves. For my entree I ordered the avocado toast both days because it was just that good. For my husband's entree he ordered the risotto and added shrimp. It was good but he could do without the tomato sauce. And his old fashioned was made just right which for us is always the tell of a serious bar. Thank you, Bartender. Today we were greeted as soon as we walked in but yesterday we stood waiting for someone to greet us. And then we were told it was going to be a 10-15 minute wait for our table. I told her we'll wait because I'm sure it won't take 15 minutes to prepare one of the four empty tables that simply needed cleaning. It took them 2 minutes to seat us. Our dining experience was lovely. On both days we got Brian for our waiter and he was friendly and efficient, and the food was excellent.

The staff gave us dirty looks and the service was slow at best which is a shame because the food was quite good. After paying, the hostess apologized and explained it was because they were busy setting up a reserved table for a party in the back. Seems like they could do with more staff if they can't even handle three tables.

One perk of using this space, and if you set it up, you can have a shuttle running between the many hotel buildings and the convention center. Sure beats having to walk the long blocks to get here. The only downside here is the amount of air conditioning being blasted from the rooms. I understand if there is a huge event with tons of people, but when you are sitting next to an empty room with no one in it, that air can make you think that you are sitting in the arctic. The biggest highlight of this space is the view. You have a great weather day outside and you get some beautiful views of the Gulf.

It has weathered storms, change of owners, and renovations and now stands as an elite Marriott owned hotel on the Seawall of Galveston. The hotel retains its beautiful early century charm and luster. It is a go-to destination for vacations and weddings. We recently stayed there for a long vacation for my birthday. The hotel we beautiful and the staff accommodating. This is an upscale resort with a dress code that matches it's exquisite interior. Our room and bed was beautiful and comfortable. I slept well!! The pool was my favorite part. The long lap pool was large enough to for all the guest there without crowding and the swim up bar was a welcome convenience. The bar staff were accommodating and friendly. We spent most of two days at the pool. We wanted to stay for brunch the Sunday we left but we were so stuffed from eating out so much that we just couldn't eat anymore. We live a few hours away so we will be back over and over for weekend getaways on the coast. It's an affordable luxury with beautiful scenery.

But my wife, always with the champagne tastes was not so convinced. We debated this off and on for a couple weeks, and eventually she won out when she discovered a deal on TikTok for the Grand Galvez. TikTok has deals? Apparently. First impressions walking into the lobby: yeah, it's super nice. Quite a bit nicer than the Hyatt Select we were considering. And quieter in this area. The place almost paid for itself when we accessed the private beach. As you walk up, you're greeted with towels, water and covered seating. These things were especially welcomed during our visit when it was approximately 99 degrees with 278% humidity. As others have shared, the rooms are small, but they're not like Japan small. We had a room with two queen beds (maybe they were doubles?), and felt like we had plenty of space for what we needed. Our 7 year old son slept in one bed with my wife and I got a bed to myself. Maybe if you sharing a room with someone you don't want to be sleeping practically right next to, you'll wish you'd booked a different hotel. But this was great for us. Oddly enough for a historical hotel, they have the world's fanciest shower with so many buttons and knobs that it's hard to even figure out what to do. Ultimately, the shower itself was fine. The water got plenty hot and the pressure was solid, even if the angle was a bit weird. The beds were a bit softer than I'm used to, but comfortable. Because this was a short day trip for us, I actually packed my own pillows, so I can't speak much to those. We opted to valet for $40 a day, but there is a public parking garage right next door to the hotel. It's a nice place. Apparently scour TikTok before booking.
