We went to VTech for a campus tour and I could have gone to Dunkin like everyone else but I always like to buy local when possible so I took a chance. The donuts and cinnamon bun were delicious, both approved by myself, my daughter who is very picky and her friend. My daughter who normally doesn't eat breakfast early happened to eat both of hers right away to my surprise. Now the young girl at the counter could have been a little friendlier but knowing how my daughter is at about the same age I don't expect much. This is one of the best donuts! Nothing flashy about the location, exterior or interior decor. The main focus is on their donuts, which I truly appreciate. The donut base is moist, fluffy, and has a hint of sweetness. For me the donut bases is EVERYTHING! This place has it! I got a dozen donuts and have come to a conclusion that since their donut base is good, I believe it's safe to get any flavor/topping of donuts. You really can't go wrong. Highly recommend! One day I was craving Krispy Creme donuts. However, the closet one to me was in Roanoke which was too far of a drive for a college kid living in Pheasant. So I decided to open up my yelp app to see where I could get really good donuts, and the first result was Carol Lee donuts! The parking lot for Carol Lee was quite small, but it made sense since their turnover of donuts is so high. As I was parking I saw families bringing out 2 to 3 boxes each. When I walked in I knew I wanted to get a dozen donuts since I wanted a box. I decided to let the person behind the counter choose the donuts for me. While they were choosing, they mentioned how their blue berry donut was really good. So I asked them to grab me a couple of those. After leaving the store I went straight home, brewed a pot of tea and was ready to dive into these donuts. The blue berry cake donut was extremely good. I am generally not a fan of cake donuts because they are dense and not very moist. However, the blue berry cake donuts at Carol Lee were completely different. They were moist, slightly fluffy and had a pleasant blue berry taste. I was also a big fan of their glazed donuts. They were nice, soft, and the right amount of sweetness. BEST DONUTS IN BLACKSBURG!! Carol lee donuts are absolutely amazing all around. First, the donuts, I think I have tried just about every flavor donut and they are all great. My absolute favorite is the strawberry frosted, with the cinnamon twist and maple frosted being close seconds. Donuts are made fresh each day and Carol Lee's close when they are sold out (around 3pm but earlier on weekends). Service is also always great. Employees are always nice, helpful, and patient when you can't choose a flavor. They have grown well too, it used to be cash only but they now accept card. They have also handed COVID really well. This was a little gem we found while on vacation. We were staying about 20 to 25 minutes away in Pembroke, but well worth the drive. My son and I woke up early in the morning and were talking about donuts so we googled and found this place and thought we would give it a try. They did not disappoint! They have a large variety, pretty much any basic flavor you can think of. We ordered two dozen because I couldn't make up my mind and wanted to make sure we had enough for us and our friends! Some of my favorites were the original glazed and blueberry cake. We also tried the strawberry frosted, chocolate frosted with Bavarian cream and chocolate frosted with the white cream, plain cake, and I can't remember what else we tried, they were all pretty good! The donuts are ready for us when we arrive. This business has taken many shapes in my lifetime, my favorite was when it was on College Avenue and you could watch people pass by. Now it is located on North Main Street and has only outdoor seating. It is set up now to be more of a take out restaurant. A dozen non-filled doughnuts is $8. This includes flavors like.. maple, glazed, chocolate with sprinkles, vanilla with sprinkles, Oreo, Cake, and blueberry cake. I also highly recommend the raspberry filled doughnuts. If you are on a budget and don't mind broken or ugly doughnuts they also sell "Grab Bags". It was perfect for me when I was a broke college student. After reading so many rave reviews, I wanted to love Carol Lee Donuts. The best thing I can say is that the young man who served us was friendly. I had a glazed donut, which was sadly without flavor but for the faint taste of the oil the donut was fried in. The donut was fresh and had a nice airy quality to it, but it was flavorless. So far the best donut I have had in the NRV area was from a Marathon station on 460 located between Newport and Pembroke. If you want an excellent donut, I suggest you go there. read more

Of course I went back! They had more options earlier in the AM! I was so sad when I saw they were all sold out of glazed donuts. However the donuts that are filled with the fillings amazing! As soon I stepped inside I saw more clearly the window case containing: cinnamon twists, chocolate flavor, Boston crème, cake donuts, it was drool worthy. I also got a cinnamon twist and it was also good you can taste the cinnamon not too overpowering, just right. Give me some coffee with these and I can eat a whole box by myself. A man working this time and helped us. He was nice, helpful, and I mean just amazing customer service like the donuts. Alright Carol Lee, you did your reputation justice. I had never been in this area before but I came down for a VTech wedding....and of course, everyone, literally EVERYONE told me I MUST go get Carol Lee Donuts. I mean, I like donuts but I was really thinking "how good can a donut place be?" And to be honest, I am impressed. It's such a small and simple shop with big flavors and really delicious donuts. I like that it's simp shop and it has a homemade feel to it. It doesn't have any bells and whistles and it doesn't need any. They just let the donuts speak for themselves. What I like most about the donuts from here is that they are not overly sweet and I think the dough has a better bite and fluff to it than other places. They remain soft even the next day and never get that hard shell with expired donuts from DD or other places. They are CASH ONLY and it's easy to pick up a dozen donuts for $8-$10 depending on what kinds you are getting. They will certainly run out of flavors later in the day so go early. I especially liked the White fluff filling donuts, the blueberry, and the cinnamon rolls. I picked up a dozen to bring back to my co-workers and the box was gone in minutes! Try them!! read more

If you come during peak hours, there's going to be a crowd of people who want a dozen donuts and don't have any clue which flavors they want so they just stand there staring at the flavors wasting everyone's time.
