We have always received great service from Carolina Air until today. I called and told them that our unit has run non stop for two days and the temp is 64 degrees. I was asked if this was warranty work, which it is , and was told I would be contacted on the next business day, which is Monday. Ants they say. Next year..system quits. Ants (only I had spread ant killer)..but okay. Only ..no..rid ants in Outdoor system..leave.."it's working". No..it wasn't. Had to return. I put out ant killer every month. High heat..quits AGAIN..4 days..zip. They come back..ANTS..fixed..working..no..not. return next day. Same as before. Clogged watern line. Two weeks later? Approach with caution. My air conditioner stopped working last summer. Their guy took a few minutes to glance at the unit in the attic and told me I needed a new unit. I decided to get a second opinion. The other company had it working in less than ten minutes without even going to the attic. It's still working just fine. I called to complain about the money I had paid for Carolina to try and rip me off. The guy who called back said the technician never even listed what was wrong. My Home Warranty Company sent this company to fix our HVAC system. The Technician was friendly and prompt and this is where the good customer service ends. After evaluation of our system, we were told that we would have to pay $784 for a cleaning of the blower motor and outside condenser, which we already have a service doing that. The only way the home warranty would accept a reconsideration is that we had to pay another company to come out and clean the two items for which they charged me 1/3 of the price that Carolina Aire quoted. I took pictures the entire time of the cleaning process. In the meantime, the Supervisor at Carolina Aire called me to explain why the cost was so high. In fact, he told me over the phone that they were charging another customer $2,000 to clean their system and he seemed pretty proud of that. This company is a total scam. When American Home Shield assigned Carolina Aire, I immediately went to look at reviews...to my dismay they were not great. I proceeded in the service call just hoping for the best. I arrived 5 minutes after the techs did, however upon my arrival they had already disassembled part of my unit which didn't start them out on the right foot. They reassembled and made their way upstairs to check the coil. While they were upstairs, I heard them whispering which I found odd. When they came back down, they said that I was completely out of freon and "I probably had a leak in the evaporator coil." Josh briefly mentioned fixing it would likely be around $2200. THEN they started pushing for a new unit, but not only a new unit but that AHS has a new program called Frontdoor that could finance it for me. I never mentioned needing financial assistance. Further, I have NEVER had any tech talk to me about MY home warranty, so it was just bizarre overall. They then wanted to know when a good time for their guy FROM AHS would be to come out to discuss the financing option. I said I didn't have time for that but that he could call me between 1-5 the next day. The next day at 5:37pm, Terry from Carolina Aire called, so obviously NOT from AHS. I let him know that I thought this entire ordeal was extremely shady and as soon as I said that he very rudely said "Well, it sounds like you're driving so call me when I can have your full attention." Mind you, Terry just interrupted my day by not calling in the FOUR HOUR window I had given the day before. Later that evening I received an email estimate that CA submitted to my home warranty. Either $2620 to fix or $7400 for a new 1.5 ton unit. I called a second company for an estimate and paid out of pocket. Turns out my unit wasn't completely out of freon but it was very low, however I do need a new unit as the leak is coming from the unit itself. New price including labor? $4800. I called AHS and waged a formal complaint about this contractor and also had them blocked from EVER servicing my home again. The issue is that my warranty would've paid up to $5k for a new unit but considering I no longer wanted to go through my home warranty because of all this drama, I am paying the $4800 completely out of pocket (ahem, with no financing lol). Here's what I think the goal was for CA- get paid the $5000 from AHS and then the $7400 from me and pocket atleast $7k. Unreal these kinds of companies get away with this type of stuff. Buyer Beware! The one star is only selected because I had to select something. Be patient with me as this is a rant about this sleazy company. I had AHS (that's a whole other story) and Carolina Air was selected for the repair of my air condition unit. The CA tech went into my crawlspace to check my unit. He came out and indicated there was a part that needed to be replaced but because the system was so old (15 years) he couldn't read the serial number. He asked if I had the original paper from the purchase of our home and I told him yes, (no serial number on any papers I have from the closing of our purchase from our builder). Mind you, I'm cutting out much of the back and forth details because the review would be very long. Plus I'm sure. I could get upset all over again. So now I call AHS, they indicate the CA tech never sent the information from the review of his findings. This went on for about two weeks, mind you, it was the middle of the summer and temps were hovering around 95 degrees and higher. Finally, I'm frustrated with AHS and CA. I now decided to call CA back and after being addressed very rudely in condescending tones and lack of professional business manners, I'm told I need to replace the entire system. How in the world do we go from one part needing to be replaced to now the entire system. I was quoted a price of almost $5,000. The devil is a liar!!! I asked what it entailed. CA wanted to replace EVERYTHING. When I say EVERYTHING, I mean EVERYTHING! I still have the note from the quote. I wasn't about to fall for this trick. So I called another company the same day, tech shows up and was advised I only needed coolant. Shame on CA attempting to get over on consumers. What I am aware is older systems using freon are and have been advised to be replaced with a newer system. I can accept that. But CA shouldn't be lying to consumers to gain profit and the tech never used this information as guidance doe the repair. I would have been willing to accept CA honesty over being lied to. After thinking about this situation long and hard, I've determined, CA must be in cahoots with crappy AHS (I canceled my contract.....waste of money). They drag the process out thinking the consumer will get desperate and accept anything they say is wrong with the system, forcing or making rhe consumer think, they need to accept what they say. But what they fail to understand, I had a second unit for the upstairs and my family and I could just go up there for the air conditioning so there was no rush for me to make a decision on their repair quote. Every chance I get to share my story with someone needing repair services, I advise them not to use CA and never consider AHS. I eventually replaced the unit but used another company. I wouldn't let CA install a plug-in fan for me if I needed assistance. That's how terrible their overall customer service is from the people answering the phones to the techs they send out for the repairs. Don't waste your time and certainly not your money. Call another company who will be honest, professional and certainly more efficient. It will save you lots of frustration, time and your money. read more

My AC stopped working and they sent a technician out within a week, which I thought was good since it is the middle of summer. The tech told my wife the AC unit was fine and the problem was insufficient attic insulation. Okay, that sounds logical except a few days prior to it not cooling below 80 it was fine with cooling to 70 on a hotter day. I called them back and had them send the technician back about a week later, he showed up and refused to look at the unit. Just said he couldn't do anything and to call the people that installed it. I called the people that installed the unit and they came out and said the unit was low on r410a based on the pressures that Carolina Air wrote on my receipt and then they double checked. They recharged it with 2lbs of it for free and rescheduled a later date to see why it was low. They said that Carolina Air's technician should have known that. I basically wasted Carolina Air's fee and had to pay twice to get another company out to fix it. read more

1st week in August ( Saturday morning) our HVAC of 9 years (that arolina Air originally installed in our then new construction house) died when the outside temps were in the 90 degrees and the heat indexes were above 105. Carolina Air had been out in May doing a periodic maintenance check up and found that the coolant was a little low and said that there was a good chance that we needed a new Evaporator Coil and wrote us an estimate to replace it. The Tech said it could have been caused by not replacing the air filters regularly. It had been a few months, so we decided to change the filters asap and keep up with changing them to see if the slight leak remained slight. It had not remained slight. It all leaked out within 3 months and when Stephen the tech came out that Sunday in August he found that there was another valve problem that needed to be replaced prior to being able to check or even charge the system. As the replacement of the Evaporator Coil's part was still under warranty for another 6 months (the labor to install was on us) and the valve needed to even check the charge that was bad was uincluded with the new Evaporator Coil, it was decided to replace the Coil. Only problem was getting a new Coil ordered. Monday Daniel ordered the coil, the coil came to them Thursday and they installed it today Friday. Stephen the tech called me and scheduled last Saturday within minutes of my having called their answering service, to come the next day on Sunday. He was both prompt and professional. We requested that Stephen be the Tech to return and install the new Coil, which he did. Stephen did not leave until all our questions had been answered and we had COLD AIR BlOWING. He also informed us that the new parts installed were warrantied for 1 year and not just until the end of our units warrantee in 6 months. Further he stated that if anything should happen in the next 30 days that all we need do was call and there wouldn't be a labor charge if it was related to anything he had just done. We are very pleased with the service we have received past and present and when our unit needs further service and periodic check ups we will not hesitate to call Carolina Air and will advise all aquaintances to do the same. read more

The employee who checked my house RE:clean airducts and fix a problem which turned out to be a system install (by someone else) that was too big for the house. He said my house needed to be burned down, but his son would be interested in my property! As it turned out, it was not black mold at all, and I'm happily still living in my house. I want to start off by saying the staff has been very friendly and tried to be helpful. I never encountered anybody rude. That said, there are some major problems in the way this business operates. I have American Home Shield, which is a home warranty company. My old AC finally kicked the bucket. AHS sent out Carolina Air. They analyzed the problem, said some major component was cracked and that it needed to be replaced. AHS authorized replacing with a brand new unit. A week passed and I never heard from anybody. Carolina Air indicated that AHS would contact me. I got tired of waiting and called AHS and they explained they were waiting on Carolina Air to give them some paperwork so they could send out a new unit. Apparently AHS maintains their own inventory. Well since Carolina Air isn't using a normal supplier, maybe it was just a minor snafu. If only. Another week passed, no calls. I called Carolina Air, they confirmed they received a unit (apparently they didn't check until I called), but it was the wrong size, it was too big for my house and would cause problems, so they needed to send it back. Several more days. No calls. I called again. The correct unit came in, but they didn't bother to call me. I asked if we could discuss upgrades outside of the AHS coverage. I wanted to add a whole-home humidifier and break my duct into two zones (upstairs and downstairs) to maximize efficiency. In addition, I wanted a fancy internet-connected thermostat to control it all. No problem, they said. They would send me a quote. They also needed to get a permit because of all the changes. Several days later, I didn't hear back, so I called again. They were working on it still. Couple more days, called again. It will be in my email inbox soon. Finally got it. Looks good, approved. Week later, no calls. Called again, waiting on permit. Week later again, no calls. Called AGAIN, waiting on permit. Finally a few days later, I called again, permit was ready to begin. Great. Let's schedule this for a few days later. Installer comes out VERY LATE. Supposed to be there early and ended up getting to the house around noon. There's a ton of work to do. I get home around 6pm, still not done. I talked to them and they said they'd be done in 90 minutes to two hours. OK, fine, makes sense, it's a lot of work. It's all done, supposedly. I will hear from them in a few days with paperwork (instruction manuals, warranty cards, and so on) and they are scheduling the city inspector to come out. Few days later, nothing. Called again. Oh they were supposed to get an inspector out? We'll work on that and call you later. Next day, inspector arrives (no call). Few minor things, like I needed an extra CO detector since I have gas heating. Cool. Inspection failed, but it's all easy fix. Called again, asked when they could come out to do the few things for the inspector and also install my new internet thermostats that just arrived (they agreed to install them at a later date). They'll call me back. Few days later, nothing. Called again. On the schedule. Comes out, puts a cheesy CO detector that plugs into the wall like a nightlight. I could have done that. I was looking for a professional installation, but whatever. Don't care. Did not hook up my humidifier. Called again to schedule for that. OK, they'll call back. They didn't. Called the next day and got on the schedule. They hooked up the thermostats. Great they work. BUT, my humidifier is not hooked up. Huh? I can't control the humidifier. Call again. They didn't realize they installed a humidifier. SERIOUSLY. Missing paperwork, excuse excuse. What? We'll call you back. But they didn't. Few days later, called again, okay found the paperwork, get you on the schedule. Comes out for the purpose of hooking up the thermostat's controller to the humidifier. On the paperwork when I get home? It says "ran water line to humidifier" and then that's it. Wait, what? Shouldn't that have been done like two months ago? Called again, asked about that, didn't know, call me back. THIS TIME THEY CALLED BACK. It's a miracle. Sending somebody out to hook up the humidifier to the thermo. I made sure my wife told them to call me when they were done so I could make sure it was all done and completed. I got a call. Turns out the humidifier isn't hooked up! It's installed, but no ductwork going anywhere. Tech told me he needed to schedule an installer to come out to finish the work. Is this real? WTH? And here I am. Nobody called me so I just called them and they see what the tech wrote are going to call me to schedule later today. Want to take bets if they do? BTW, I never received any instruction manuals or warranty cards or maintenance plans or anything. I'm going from memory, there may have been more calls. it's been 3 MONTHS since they started. When they are finally done, I'm hiring somebody else to come out and verify it's all hooked up correctly, because honestly who knows at this point? read more

Our upstairs unit went out 7/22. It was down for an entire week. Seems July is the month that everyone air goes on strike. The company was a bit backed up, when we finally came up on the list Carolina Air called and set the appointment time. Technician called just as they were on their way and arrive right before 10 (gave us a time of 10-2). He immediately identified the problem and fixed it. We are back in business and cooler than ever. The technician was prompt and courteous, wore shoe coverings while in the house. We are happy with our experience. read more

So far here's what's happened. Our upstairs AC went out so we got Carolina Air through our homeowners insurance. Made an appointment for between 10-2 today (about a week after it stopped working). Took the kids to the bus stop and came home to find the technician waiting in our driveway at 9. He had us scheduled for between 8-12. Luckily we came home in time to meet him. He looked at the unit and discovered the coil was frozen solid because we had left our unit running. The person who made the appointment was supposed to tell us to turn the unit off so this doesn't happen. She did not. So we left it running thinking we would squeeze whatever little cool air out of it we could until it got fixed. At any rate the technician was not able to work on the unit and we had to reschedule. Now we have to wait another week without AC before they can come out again. I understand this is a sellers' market this time of year but it really seems like they know they have the upper hand and don't have to accommodate customers when they screw up. Needless to say they haven't actually done any work yet so I'll update this review when that happens. And who knows, maybe they'll surprise me with a earlier than expected visit. read more

Maintenance was performed last week, and I was told that the outdoor capacitor is weak, out of spec, and will need to be replaced soon. I researched and found that capacitors should last 20 years and at least ten years. My unit will be four years old in April. After maintenance, I noticed that my thermostat was 'off', registering temperatures that I know are not accurate and just not working properly in general. I called Carolina Air and was told that the capacitor needs to be replaced and it could be affecting the thermostat. Why is something that should last 20 years failing so fast and is this indicative of the whole unit's quality? read more

Carolina Air worked with us on a new gas furnace, going through American Home Shield. While I could get no response from AHS and they were not responding to Carolina Air, their employees worked daily to get the approval we needed. After almost 4 weeks, Shawn and his staff got approval and quickly came to install the new unit. When it was not working correctly the next day, Tyler drove over an hour after hours to our home. He found and corrected the problem, and even stayed until he was sure the unit was working properly. He didn't leave until after midnight! Thank you Carolina Air! read more

Stay away! Both Carolina Air Inc. and American Home Shield (my warranty company) are garbage. Stay away, unless you think nearly FOUR WEEKS without heat is reasonable. It took 3 service visits and 25 days - 11 of them at or below freezing temperatures - for my heat to be fixed. The final service took 8-10 days more than an original estimate. I never got an explanation from Carolina Air about why the part took an extra 8-10 days to come in. Communication from Carolina Air was poor, to say the least. Every experience contacting AHS was extremely frustrating, with long wait times and little help. In addition, the two companies seemed to be in poor communication with each other, as suggested by the five phone calls it took to get a second service person out after the first "fix" failed to resolve the problem. We just built our house about a year and a half ago and have had several problems with already. Come to find out most of the new homes having issues to. This last visit they wanted to put a 20.00 part in for 169.00 which takes 15 min. That's price gauging. I will be calling Trane and letting them know what they are doing . Jason came to my home and found a problem with my AC unit in less than 5 minutes. 2 other companies sent several people here and they couldn't fix it. Jason unclogged the pee hole (Water ran for a while) and vacuumed my lines. I can't tell you what a relief it was!! The only reason they get one star is because they have a free diagnostic on your HVAC unit. That being said I purchased a Trane unit from them 7 years ago which they denied putting in. I actually followed up with my Trane warranty and they told me directly they installed it. They had to send out 3 different people on two different days to figure out was wrong. At the time we had no air in the beginning of August. The two first guys were nice, but the third guy was absolutely unprofessional and a con artist. They were trying to charge me over $400 for a condesate pump installation. The pump is 79.99-89.99 and it takes about 20 mins to install. Rip off alert people! I finally went with Fields Plumbing and ac for half the price. Very reliable and honest. Just don't waster your time with Carolina Air or Sandhills heating & air. Both are rip off artist. read more

I would absolutely not recommend these guys. STAY AWAY like the plague. Technician came out to my place about 5 weeks ago. Our service window was 12-3PM, but he didn't actually arrive until 7:25PM. He did his thing, had me sign some paperwork, left, and he told me the office would call me the next day to discuss next steps. Of course, I didn't hear anything. The next week, I called in and asked what was going on, they said they'd ordered the part are just waiting on delivery rom the manufacturer. Once the part gets in, they'll call me to schedule an appointment. Another three weeks go by, I never hear anything, so I called in and apparently they had never ordered the part in the first place. Something was wrong with the serial number that the technician recorded. They never called me to let me know about this or give me any updates. Another week goes by, technician comes back out, re-records the information, and again, he tells me the office will contact me the next day. Here's the shocker, they didn't call me. I called them again today, got placed on hold, was bounced around to three separate people, and at the end of it, I got the same old "we'll call you later" once we have more information. If you want to get your units *actually* working, then I'd stay the heck away. If you enjoy a bit of torture, then by all means these guys are perfect for that. read more

I would not recommend this company to anyone. Unfortunately I have American Home Shield and they sent this company to my house to look at my heating system. The technician tried to sell me a new system to which I stated I don't want a new system, this one works fine it's just leaking freon so please fix the leak. After he departed AHS notified me that I need a new system, they (AHS) would pay $569 and I would have to pay at least $3,255 (the technician listed as much as possible under what the customer pays). AHS simply goes with what the technician says and doesn't question anything. Upon further research I found out AHS is very slow to pay these companies so in turn they place as much as possible on the customer so they get paid the bulk of the payment quicker. Finally, Carolina Air get paid a lot more for replacing a system then repairing one. I'll update once the system is repaired or replaced, but I will not use Carolina Air for anything. read more

WOW the most rude and unprofessional people I have ever seen. I have American Home Shield and they send this company to fix my AC unit. To make a long story short they order the part , never called me to inform that they had it! when they finally come to the appointment the technician takes off the broken part (it was the dripping pan but my ac was working, I just had to drain it every so often) and apparently the new ordered part was broken! so they basically told me that I had to wait for them to order another part and at this point I could not use the AC . SO I went from having a working ac to none, and at this point I basically kicked them out of my house because their Manage Morgan is so Rude that I rather stay without AC for 2 weeks and have another company do the process all over again than have this people do it . read more

Very, very poor service. I used them in preparation to sell my house. They charged me $850 to get my (2) units "serviced," which included adding freon, a capacitor, and cleaning the units. I vacated my residence and the units were not used for several months. When the house went under contract, the home inspector reported that neither unit was actually cleaned, and that both units needed servicing again. We were unhappy, my wife called, and they came to do a complimentary service on our upstairs unit. They blamed the poor service on the hurricanes (to include the inside unit). Instead of a service report, they sent me a quote for another $850 to complete other "work" that needed to be done, which they failed to disclose the last time (a mere 5 months ago). Keep in mind that the units were not used for more than a month since the last service. Within 5 days the inspector came to verify that the service was completed and to my surprise, the unit was still dirty. I thought it might be the opinion of the inspector, until my realtor came over and verified that the unit and its coils looked the same as in the photo the inspector originally took and that indeed nothing had been done. So now, I am going to have to pay someone else to do the job. I feel like I was robbed, What a waste of $850!! read more

Would not recommend this company due to unprofessional management and customer service practices. While I understand that the problem isn't always fixed immediately, we have been without heat for three weeks in the middle of winter follow up appointments which were supposedly schedule were not...after which I had to call to follow up. After the second incident, I asked to speak to management and was rudely told over the phone that "they were busy and this was the best they could do." No apology or understanding. I used Carolina Heating and Air through my warranty company (American Home Shield). From the beginning, these guys were more concerned about selling me a new unit instead of fixing my broken one. They came to my house four times (45 day stretch) and every time they would say it was fixed. On the fourth and final time they decided I needed a new unit. They wanted to charge me 3800.00 for my part in getting the new unit and another 250.00 for some inspection for house size. I paid the 250.00 for the code inspection but then I got smart to the scam. I asked my home warranty company for a second opinion. The company they sent stated it was only a leak in the line. They stated that someone did a bad repair job. No record of rescheduled appointment in computer. Lots of claims of "miscommunication" when not rescheduling. All in all a disaster when talking to them on the phone. Spent more time on hold listening to their announcement that "we know our customers time is valuable and this is important to us" than in actual productive conversation. When service tech did arrive (it was a pre-paid service agreement call) he asked if I was going to renew the service agreement. Nice try at a joke. Definitely would not recommend them read more

I'm a local AND loyal customer for several years under their service plan. We knew our Heating/Air unit was on its way out & today it finally locked up. They quoted me 7,300$ to replace with complete turnkey service & that's with the service plan discount. (Sean: Manager called to tell me It is a higher end product with longer warranty / longer duration service plan etc & they don't really have a budget option). I called around & got a system to reflect what I really needed.. An affordable system to replace what i already had, not a higher end system. I decided not to continue business with them & chose a company in Asheboro that quoted a complete turnkey system and install for $4,100: So do your own homework & shop around to understand the warranties and system quality etc. (It saved me over 3000$ for a couple of phone calls) read more

if you have a choice to use another company, make sure you do so. apparently, they do not notate accounts of changes of appointments. they don't know which dispatcher takes voicemails. it is not a policy to let you know the tech is at your residence, nor to follow up with a "missed appointment"... because they get paid anyways!! i will never use them again! this is not the first time i have used their services through my home warranty. the first time was very smooth, but this was years ago. maybe changes in the office, but they do not have great business practices and i will never use them or recommend them. read more

Worst service of any HVAC company I've ever worked with. 6 months pregnant w/no AC for weeks, they've been here 3 times in a month but feel no need to expedite as we sleep in 87-92 degrees w/84% humidity. Supervisor told me that the owner of the company's name is not something I need to know. Showed up on 2nd visit and suggested maybe I was turning to unit to low although they admitted 72 at night and 76 in the day is not too low. Still left without fixing anything. Showed up on 3rd visit and asked me if I knew what was going on because their equipment was broken. I asked that they order the part immediately, was told sure, then later told they had never intended to do that because they order parts at the end of the day after everything is closed. He even asked why I thought he'd take the time to order my part when he had other calls to go to. When I advised I would file a complaint I was told "you're not even a customer to us, we work for your home warranty company so if you have a problem with something call them not us". read more

Agree with others comments on poor customer service!!! Sent to these guys through American Home Shield. Waited three weeks in hot weather for compressor part to be installed. Fixed and now AC is out again barely a week later and they tell me it will be another week before I'm back on the schedule! That's over a month dealing with AC issues! This is the worst experience I have ever had dealing with a heating/air company. We scheduled the first appointment 3 weeks ago for a broken furnace and nobody showed up during the four hour time slot, despite me having taken off work to wait at home. The technician came the next day and said they had to order a part, and we received an email later that day saying 'part in order'. The next week we found out that they still hadn't ordered the part (despite the email they sent saying they had), and that we needed a ladder to be fixed in our apartment (that we were never told was broken) before they could order it. The lady I talked to on the phone was extremely rude, kept telling me she 'only answers the phone', couldn't tell me anything about when the part would be ordered, and repeatedly told me that WE were inconveniencing THEM. I finally talked to someone who said the part would be there in 5 days. 12 days later, we have scheduled several appointments that they have had to cancel because they still don't have the part. These people were sent to my house through American Home Shield. The tech Brian arrived and was immediately rude to my wife . Then was rude to me when I tried to explain a few things to him over the phone . He then blatantly lied on his report to the warranty company . Now the American home shield will not cover my unit . To make matters worse I got back into town today and thought let me call Carolina air and talk to someone about what had happened . I was first talking to a very nice lady who I explained the whole situation to . She told me that she would have to transfer me to the dispatcher for the Raleigh area . This woman didn't even bother to say hello . Her first words were you need to call America home shield. When I tried to explain that it was because of the blatant lie their tech had sent to AHS that I was calling them she replied " my service technicians don't lie you can take that stuff elsewhere " and hung up on me .
