Zero stars Asking for money upfront should have been the red flag , but when you are in the throes of this awful situation- you seem desperate . They play on that desperation. Completely unorganized during the check in process ( should have also tipped me off) . My daughter was left in a room for over an hour .. they forgot about her. This was for php Not a lot of actual counseling, groups and early release. The amount of money they billed was insane . We lasted a week . Do your research, and if you are out of options .. look outside the box of corporate formulas. There are probably caring people that work there, but not the experience we had. My daughter is worse off now then she was before she went in. Your organization completely failed her. The bad reviews are to be believed. There are not enough staff - not enough counselors, or nutritionists. The staff was constantly turning over. They never even could find her treatment plan. We asked several times for meetings with the higher ups and were always given the run around. I finally got an email to Mark Kooser, director of clinical services by emailing the accounting department. This was only after I threatened to dispute the large amount of money paid. He met with my daughter the following morning and discharged her from the program - she was not ready to leave - she just wanted more counseling. He was rude and had absolutely no empathy for her. Protocol is if someone is discharged, they are supposed to follow up with the patient. This did not happen. DO NOT TRUST THEM TO HELP YOUR LOVED ONE. I cannot stress this enough - total waste of a lot of money. read more

Well, the Carolina House only scored high marks for the contractors who offered a limited amount of treatment modalities. The worst is their poor medication hand-offs and absolute incompetence - one of whom looked like she was 80 and was completely insensitive when I was having a panic attack. She dismissed it and said I could not possibly be having a panic attack because I was still breathing. What in the world. Their psychiatrist Dr. Foreman was equally as incompetent and i did not appreciate that I had to suffer through my allergies with inflicted by her dogs because she won't leave them when she's argumentatively trying to help people. Look, Dr. Foreman have ever considered doggy day care - my dog goes? Their CEO, Jessica was completely clueless as to how to address their operational issues to which she confirmed there were communication issues. And while contractors, particularly the yoga specialist who was excellent. Some cancelled last minute or simply left without any communication. From what I understand, their mental health program has only been in place for ten months. If I'm a lab rat then compensate me, please. Recent good news is that they are shutting down due decreased revenue. I've found a more stellar and highly rated inpatient practice in Florida where you receive equine therapy, acupuncture and so much more for almost half the price this organization charges. I was actually in a better space before coming to their facility as we watched in horror how they discharged people due to insurance, police and ems in sight to take patients away, witnessing another patient who tripped on their throw rug because the lip was coming up, and just so much more - this is a situation that they were well aware of. They served unhealthy food to us from their eating disorder clinic, to save money. If they do reopen Acadia needs to reconsider its current leadership and especially Dr. Foreman who couldn't offer a proper diagnosis and chastised me for wanting more visits - she said only billionaires receive that type of care - well lady my $40,000 cost should have given me much more than I received. I plan to report her to the NC Medical Board. She's the worst psychiatrist that I've ever seen! Oh and their website is inaccurate. While they do have a fancy estate for overflow, we were swiftly removed in the morning because this place really serve as office space their employees; however, proper use of this estate could actually help people. read more

I was at CH in 2018 and had a truly horrific experience. I was given medication by the nurse to give to another patient "because I was a nurse", and then lectured the next day for overstepping my boundaries. There was never enough staff to pour supplements and watch the bathroom at the same time, so someone was always in need with no one to help. If you were anything but a straightforward, you were labeled as a problem and treatment resistant. I was kicked out after 90 days for being too complex with no discharge planning whatsoever. If it wasn't for the medical director contacting another facility to get me help, I truly believe I'd be left for dead. 10/10 do not recommend. read more

Overall, a wonderful experience. One nurse and one residential patient assistant were overtly and blatantly homophobic, discriminatory, rude and dismissive from day one. The Medical Director made it very clear her position there was her "part-time job" and was completely unavailable to in-patients once admitted to the residential facilities, which was totally unacceptable. Again, an overall good experience after being there 30 days. read more

I was at Carolina house in 2018 and had a decent experience. Outings, groups, and meals were all great. I had a difficult time connecting with my therapist and that was the worst part but here are a few other complaints: short staffed, trouble with the dishwasher and oven being out of service, and inadequate staff in general. Also inconsistent and too lenient rules. I returned to CH 2021 only to find things to be terrible. Pros: some of the staff are amazing, the dietician was great, the chef excellent, and food decent. Cons: admission, financial dept, and medical are a total mess. They are so short staffed that it is impossible to provide patients the attention and structure needed and requested. This leaves many patients unsupervised most of the time, they don't receive proper meal support, and rules simply aren't enforced. Admission was the most unorganized process imaginable. They got my admit day and time wrong, didn't go over any rules or protocols just asked me to sign without explaining anything. After a week I had to discharge to go to the hospital, per the drs recommendation, and when I was ready to return to ch, my case worker at the hospital couldn't get in touch with admissions for 3 days. After making my travel arrangements, ch called me last minute and said they won't accept me due to my BMI, even though they told me and my case worker that I was cleared and ready to be admitted 3 days before. I have no faith whatsoever in their ability to communicate effectively with other providers or potential new clients. It is heartbreaking to see such a beautiful facility that has so much potential fall to pieces and become such an unstructured, understaffed mess. I'm so disappointed with ch for the way they handled not only my situation but also how they are running the program in general. They are doing all of their clients a huge disservice by not providing adequate medical care, meal support, and supervision. I could go on for hours but I'll leave it at this. Carolina house is not the same picturesque, supportive residential facility it once was. I'm disgusted with the way things are being run there and I will never recommend or consider returning to ch for treatment. read more

It's now my one year anniversary of going to Carolina House, my life-changing experience. If I regret one thing, it was not staying in North Carolina (I'm from Jersey) for Partial and Intensive Outpatient because this program is superior to any offerings in my area that take insurance. The staff is phenomenal - I joked with some that I wished I could pack them into my suitcase alongside their resident outdoor cat, Hermecita. I felt supported and listened to. They're equipped to handle Binge Eating Disorder, my diagnosis, even though it receives less media attention than anorexia/bulimia. I also believe part of its superiority as a program lies in its inclusion only of adults who want to be there. Since it's a voluntary-only program, the people there generally take it seriously or get out (yes, I'm sure there are outliers, but fighting treatment is not ingrained into the culture as in places with a group of thirteen through seventeens forced by their parents). The best part - they take some private insurance. That's even harder to find. I strongly recommend this facility for residential treatment of any eating disorder. read more
