The last two times we've taken our dogs here for boarding they got sick and required medication. Both times we were not called or updated that they had become sick during their stay. Dr bauer recorded our appt without my knowledge or consent. I only noticed it because I saw her phone recording. When I was obviously uncomfortable, her only response was that yes, she's recording and she doesn't need my permission! This pattern of her not caring about my needs would repeat in my appointment. I was very obviously not wanting that, but I had to ask her multiple times and she never even apologized. Recording people like she did and not stopping the 1st time is definitely crossing the line. Says everything about how much she cares about your needs, which reflects on how she'll care for pets. They did not ask my permission to pin my dog down on the table. He's very gentle and I didn't want him down there longer than he needed to be. They didn't listen to me beforehand when I told them that he doesn't like it. Instead of being Sorry they got angry at me and Dr. Bauer seemed to do a tit for tat thing in her head where she started complaining about the fact that my dog was on the examination table at all. She literally got angry at me because he was on the examination table. I have never in my entire life had a veterinarian behave this way. I even tried to smooth things over by apologizing and they still continued to be extremely rude. It wasn't a sincere apology, but I still said it kindly I just wanted them to be nice to my dog. What a nightmare. Furthermore, every single opinion I stated or response to any of their suggestions that indicated I was thinking for myself was met with criticism and disapproval, if not outright shaming and complaining. There was one time that her assistant was in the room alone with me and she got into this really Petty power struggle with me, because I said I can't control my pet 100% of the time which is just a fact. She then snitched on me to Dr. Bauer who proceeded to try and micromanage me in a different way. These people are just about control and ego imo. At the end, as we were wrapping up I was trying to explain something and she yelled at me, STOP!! Like a nazi. She rudely interrupted me and then had the nerve to say she wanted to talk. So she wants to talk but not listen? Even more shockingly, on the way out I said listen just don't hate me. Okay, please? Think anyone who is kind would have said something like of course not. I was truly amazed when all she said was "kay" as she walked out the door without a handshake or even a smile. Wow If you want to place that respects your opinion and values and active participant in caring about their dog, this is not the place. She is one of the worst and meanest vets I have ever encountered and she has absolutely no response for anyone but herself in my opinion. They also emailed me to tell me that they didn't want me as a patient anymore. The review is for boarding only: I've never paid close to what I paid to have my dog board for a few nights anywhere else. You have to pay for them to send you a photo of your dog?! And boarding fee does not include daycare?! It's a money grab. They don't even send updates in terms of how your dog is doing. K9 resorts sends daily report cards with photos and dogs you board are allowed to go into daycare as it is included in the fee. Even though they take great care of the patients that come in the door , I do not recommend working here. It is a very cutthroat/ toxic environment. I did not have an enjoyable experience while working there. I kept walking on eggshells. Unfortunately you cannot trust anyone. You say one thing and it will go straight to the manager no matter what it is. There are very few staff members that are nice. I honestly felt like I was not part of the Carolina Ranch "family". The head doctor/ medical director is A micro manager, very condescending and rude. If you mess something up, It was the end of the world. I also felt like people couldn't trust me when it comes to doing certain tasks, even after having 3 years of experience. I wanted to learn more about surgery and rehab but the manager told me in their words that "it would take years". Some of the staff who have been there for 4-6years (maybe even longer) still have yet to get into surgery. They are very anal about EVERYTHING to the point where it's a little too excessive. I'm used to working in a 1 to 3 step type of structure/system and their structures /system is a 1 to 6 step. Was trying to pick my dogs up Sunday after dropping them off Saturday. They will not allow you pick them up until between 5-6pm. Fine with that, but they charge you another nights stay for each dog since you left them there past noon. Cheap trick to double up costs. read more

Update to my previous review that was an amazing 5 stars. I've removed a star and might remove more down the road as now I see why people mentioned dissatisfaction with the front desk. I've tried scheduling my dog's rehab sessions and apparently only 1 person can do it but she's never available. I've left 4 messages over the past 2 months and have never heard back. I can only schedule them when I'm physically in the building. I've spent thousands of dollars here and might be ending our relationship after this package is completed. I was hesitant at first with the service but now that I've been with em for few months. I would recommend this place. Lilo sees Dr Oliver....she is very attentive and direct. The doctor told me my cat needed his teeth cleaned and one pulled out. They ran blood tests and everything came back normal. The only concern is that he always had sinus problems, since he was a kitten. He didn't survive the anesthesia. I think they should have tried some other way to clean his teeth knowing he had trouble breathing. Sorry doesn't cut it! They killed my cat! They only care about making money! After almost $1,000 on 3 visits, they killed my cat! And I haven't paid for the X-rays and anesthesia yet! Just a check up is $80.00 and they charge 3 times the price of medicine! I sent my dog there for training, I explicitly told her, Catherine, I needed help with her pulling off the leash and when she gets off the leash because she is a runner and it is hard for her for to come back as she continues to run. She was there for 6-7 days. I paid for her to stay there as well as I paid an additional day of training. My dog is a 3 year old lab, full of energy and is already able to follow basic commands. I paid for a play date as well and photo or the day there was no training. Keep all this in mind as she said it would not be hard to train her but she would have limited days with distractions. Well guess what she never received the play date or the photo and the check out lady was going to allow me to pay the remaining balance without even saying anything. Mind you know where does it say that the 5 day training is a bunch of bull shit....why offer something that is bull shit??? Top it off my dog was sick with a nasty cough a day or 2 after so guess what I had to do take her back up there for medication and a visit, but they said they could not do anything unless they seen her. Myself and my daughter have been working with our dog at home, but it never beats a dog who runs out of the house (everything goes out the water). My dog got out of the house not following any commands on coming back which was always a problem and was picked up by the pound due to me not being home. So when I called to speak with Catherine she was busy, I asked to speak with a manager she was busy. Receptionist told me that they are not responsible for he getting out, they do not offer refunds, nor will they give my dog additional training for free by Carolina Ranch. When the manager called back I never received an apology, I was only told that it is busy because of the upcoming holiday and that she would have Catherine give me a call next week. Received a call today, and surprisingly Catherine does not recall any of our conversation and she is very adamant that the only thing I told her I wanted her to work on was her leash training. I would have never paid 700 for just leash training when I knew there was an issue with my dog being off the leash. She then said a week is not adequate time to train any dog off the leash with distractions, so when I asked why is it offered and yall took my money all she could say was 6-7 days is not enough time to train them. She said she could offer me a training session with me present to train my dog, no money back or anything. SO AGAIN YOU TOOK MY MONEY AND ARE NOW SAYING THAT A WEEK IS NOT ENOUGH TIME TO TRAIN MY DOG!!!!! THAT IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. We thought about boarding our German Shepherd for the week of Thanksgiving. The elderly lady was very rude, both on the phone, and in person. Once my husband got there for the tour, she was very unpleasant, to where he asked for someone else to give him the tour. They wanted to charge the premium rate, and wanted to add on additional fees to keep our dog confined for 5 days, without any interaction with other dogs or trainers. They have lost their mind! We have been coming to Carolina Ranch for over two years now for both veterinary and boarding services. Their service is excellent and the vets and other staff really care for your pets. They listen to your thoughts and answer all questions you have. We brought in our beagle-corgi mix because we were concerned about an issue she was having. We came in when they opened at 7 AM, but was told the vets do not show up until 8 AM. Nonetheless, they still started processing us ahead of time so we could get in with a vet right away. During the examination process, Dr. Kinter was very informative and patient with us. She explained each option we had and never pressured us in any way to make a certain decision. We felt that she truly cared for the health of our dog, just as we have felt when we have brought both dogs in for their regular checkups. Carolina Ranch is more expensive than other vets/boarding facilities, but we know they are in the best care while we are away, given the facility is also an animal hospital. We have boarded our dogs at other facilities in the area and they have come home stinky, dirty, and coughing. This has never happened at Carolina Ranch. I'd rather pay a bit more for top-of-the-line care from people who actually care about your animals. read more

We used this vet for several years, but because they were so inflexible regarding scheduling, the rudeness of the reception area, we started going to a different vet. Recently, we had all three of our puppies get sick at the same time with diarrhea and stomach issues, the vet we were seeing was closed so we call Carolina Ranch to see if they could possibly have a vet check them out. They basically told us that since we saw a different vet, they could not help us, but would get us a number to a urgent care. I stated to them that they helped us remember why we left that practice to start with. This vet is all about the money, not about the animals. I would NEVER recommend this vet practice to anyone. This place does not care about animals. If they did, they would not charge you for literally everything including basic care for an animal while they are being boarded. The price they show you is just for the 4x4 space to put them in, NOT to actually care for the animal. They literally charged me a food prep fee daily. How hard and time consuming is it to prep food? What is the point of boarding an animal if they aren't going to feed it food it will eat? For our older dog, we brought food to feed her because older dogs are more sensitive and we were worried she wouldn't eat. Well, they charged us for that too! Which makes no sense, we gave them dog food and they charged us!! When I inquired why they charged my other dog a food prep fee when we didn't bring food for her, its because they charge (PER DAY) a fee for adding wet food to the dry food. So basically they charge you for someone to take a spoon and stir. WOW! They also charged us a Special K9 Accommodation fee which I have no idea what that is. Did not bother to explain it to me. That was a daily fee of $5.75. And just a heads up, if you want them to pet the dog that's called "snuggle time" and costs $13/day per pet. I did know about that charge but quite honestly its borderline inhumane so that's why im mentioning it. We will house your dog but don't expect us to pet them without paying a fee! Total animal lover vibes right? In the end, the cost was well over $200 more than I expected the bill to be. This could have been easily prevented by informing me of the total cost beforehand. But they add these fees and then keep your beloved pets behind closed doors till you pay the bill. I hope this prevents someone else from experiencing this nightmare, I know I will be telling everyone I know to steer clear of this money hustling business. read more

I don't recommend this place, at all. Came in for a rehab consultation and Dr. Bauer was abrasive, condescending, and lacked the care/love that most vets I have encountered have. She came in the room and without so much as even acknowledging my dog, told me to put her on the table. She proceeded her exam and immediately told me my dog was on the wrong food (Orijen grain free, which is a pristine food. I am aware of the single study on grain free food that has raised controversy and have spent hours researching what food is best for her) and needs to lose weight (their scale is over 4lbs off)... she also had ACL surgery 3 weeks ago. The rest of the visit was as unwelcoming and uncomfortable. Unfortunately this was our only option for rehab as every facility in Raleigh is booked out 6 weeks, with that as the only reason and granted that I'd be able to go inside with my dog for the sessions. I purchased a 5 pack of 1hr sessions for my pups rehab. 2 days later we came back for our first rehab session. After waiting in the rain for 10 minutes after our apt time, they came to get my dog and were taken aback when I told them I was told I could come in. My dog was scared and I asked if I could stand inside the doorway - they checked with the Dr.Bauer who relayed to them that wasn't allowed because it was "distracting" for the dog. She tried getting out the whole time - it would have been more beneficial if I was allowed inside with her. Her 10min on the water treadmill were successful. The front desk staff of 5-6 people were all staring at me and rude. The guy who did her session itself seemed caring towards her and was good. Additionally - the 1hr session I paid for was 30 minutes long, when I asked them about this I was told "they can only do so much in an hour which is why they prefer dogs be dropped off for rehab for the day to do many sessions." If that's the case then perhaps don't offer 1 hour sessions, OR make them 30min sessions and charge for that. People don't pay for 60min massages and leave satisfied with a 30min one. I asked for and received a refund on the rehab pack I purchased and will not be returning here. The other poor reviews all make sense now. read more

Signed up my dog for 5 day training from 7am-6pm and had a consultation with one of the trainers. I was told to take the medical record and I did. I was also told that the consultation was going to be $33 and i agreed- the consultation ended up being $43 but I paid it, no complaints The office personnel and the consultant assured me my dog was ready to go and I made plans for the following week- The following week when I arrived at the Ranch, the person at the front desk told me that I couldn't dropped off my dog because the records were not up to date with one of the shot that was coming due the following Thursday. I told her that I prefer to take the dog to my vet and she said that they offer that service there for a "small" fee. The shot is not due yet - then she mentioned about the deworming that I need to have a fecal test done. Again, the salesperson started to give the pitch that they can do it there for a small fee. I don't like getting nickeled and dime - and I don't like it when people have hidden agenda- needless to say that I was very upset by their service - sad to say, but they don't care at all for the customer read more

Veterinary Visits: Dr. Oliver and Andrew were great with my rescue dog. They both took the time with her to make her feel less scared, they gave her multiple types of treats, and spent quite a bit of time just trying to get to know her before performing the exam. Because she was so scared, Dr. Oliver performed the exam on the floor with my dog in my lap. She was so patient and kind. She administer 2 shots so quickly that my dog didn't even notice because they had given me treats to feed her. The main thing was that they were so unhurried, and spent so much time with us. They seemed to want to cause the least trauma to my dog. I have had numerous pets and veterinarians over the years (and 4 kids :-) ), and Dr. Oliver and Andrew were by far the best I have ever seen. read more

Bad Experience with Carolina Ranch 1-groomer appt cancelled when groomer went on vacation 2- Groomer overscheduled and they were overbooking the next month, and we had to cancel due to scheduling issues 3-Blood test not done on cat. Stomatitis diagnosed, said she needed teeth cleaning with anesthesia. We asked to do a bloodtest. The vet said they do the blood tests right before the surgery. That is when they did it. No appointment was available until about a month away. We talked to the vet because after reading the literature, it said the only way to stop stomatitis for good is to pull all the cat's teeth. We talked to the vet if it was needed to put the cat to sleep and vet said she could understand that it might be a good, possible choice. We decided to get a second opinion and went to another vet. At the other vet, the cat was thoroughly examined and bloodwork was needed to evaluate her condition. We were told anesthesia would have endangered our cat. A blood test the 2nd other doctor did showed the cat had hyperthyroidism and it would be dangerous to do anesthesia. Carolina Ranch would only do bloodwork right before surgery a month away. Our cat was losing weight and was 14. She could have died in that wait because she was losing weight quickly due to hyperthyroidism. She has been put on meds, gained weight and is doing well. No sign of stomatitis. Ron had asked Carolina Ranch about blood test . They only would do it right before surgery, which was a month away. Our cat would have suffered all that time and we might have even lost her. We have also had quickie appts with our dogs' Heath. Quick diagnoses and we end up having to go to emergency vet. I CANNOT RECOMMEND more that you avoid Carolina Ranch, in our opinion. read more

My dog is not friendly, and not used boarding. But, overall I think they did a pretty good job. (wasn't there to see...) The pictures I received were sad... I thought the prices were a bit high as you need to pay for everything and it adds up. But, I don't think cost should be an issue to see your animal taken care of. She was there for 3 nights and was very happy to see us. Did not appear traumatized which I was glad to see. I was impressed with the grooming job. The guy that brought her out was nice. Carolina Ranch recently opened in the "Cleveland" community on Hwy 42 near I-40. They are a full service veterinarian, boarding and daycare facility. So far, we have only used them for daycare. We have visited five or six "doggy daycare" facilities in the Triangle over the past half dozen years and this is the nicest by far. The facility is simply gorgeous. You feel like you're walking into a high end hotel in Yosemite. Stone work and light wood provide for a bright and inviting atmosphere. The day care/boarding facilities are very nice as well. I mean, how can Fido not love indoor/outdoor pools with waterfalls? The staff is professional and helpful. They are all uniformed and really take customer service to the next level. Their prices are in line with their competition. Give them a try and you and your pooch will be happy you did! read more

Would not recommend going here if your pet dose not do well being around others without you. This used to be our go to vet when we first moved here. I understand that since covid things have change everywhere. I have a pup that dose not do well going places and especially being around strangers, she get really stressed. She dose okay when I go with her. The Veterinarian knows this and respects this, the staff on the other hand do not. Their new practice when your pet has an appointment is you arrive and call them to tell them you have arrived, they then come to your car and take your pet in and you wait in the parking lot. That is ridiculous to me. They have some one outside for boarding check-in and out, why not vet?? But whatever, we had communicated with our veterinarian that our pups were due for vaccines and that the process in place was not good for the anxious pup, she agreed and said that I would be allowed in with her, just have to wear a mask. No problem. We made an appointment for both at the same time, payed the holder fee they now charge everyone. Well the day before they called to confirm and then stated that I would not be allowed to accompany my pets. The person on the phone said they would be fine without me. We asked to speak to the manager to discuss what we had previously be told and figure out why the day before it has changed, she refused to come to the phone. I will no longer be taking my pets here. I have a major problem with paying for a vet exam without me even seeing the vet, its kinda like would you send your child to the doctor without you?!? But to have been told something by someone and then them to come back and say something completely different the day before, unacceptable. This review is based off of my visits for veterinary services. Always enough front desk staff to answer the phones quickly, knowledgeable & friendly staff! Getting scheduled is a breeze, pricing is high in comparison to some other places so always ask before you make the appointment but again the friendly staff who answer the phone have no issue getting you as much info as you'd like. Huge parking lot, beautiful & clean exterior & interior of building. Exam rooms are always clean. Everyone is nice here. Haven't experienced any "wait time" longer than at any other vets office. My biggest complaint is that it's more expensive than most & they like to require you spend as much money as possible. Dr. Kitner is a wonderful & experienced vet! She's done A1 work for us so I'd expect to cough up the cash for her services! read more

Although the facilities look nice our experience was that they misdiagnosed my dog's osteosarcoma after repeatedly bringing him in several times (3+)over the course of three weeks. They kept insisting it was a sprain and provided pain meds and sent us home. After finally insisting on a referral to NCSU he was diagnosed within a few hours after his appointment there with osteosarcoma ( aggressive and painful bone cancer). We thankfully were able to beg for a slot for surgery at NCSU for amputation at the recommendation of their head of surgery. Upon diagnosis at NCSU they sent an email to Carolina Ranch and copied us. They informed Carolina Ranch of our dog's diagnosis. Although we had been clients at Carolina Ranch for several years as we are a multidog household we did not receive any further communication from Carolina Ranch. No phone call, email no check in upon notification of their misdiagnosis- nothing. Mind you, I spend over 10k a year in medical care for my dogs. They showed their true colors by their actions and lack of concern and inability to diagnosis after repeated visits. We switched vets to Family Pet where Dr. Foley and staff truly care about their patients and do follow up after any visit, including when they refer out to a speciality hospital. I don't wish our experience on anyone. read more

Very disappointed in the communication and customer service that I received when I boarded my 2 greyhounds over the Christmas holiday. To begin, this facility charges at a premium price for their services. We were charged for a 3 day/night stay when they were there for only 2. It is stated in their billing guidelines that when animals are not picked up prior to 12 noon, an additional day would be charged. However, on December 26th they only offered pick-up from 4p-6p and conveniently charged us for an additional day. It was not communicated to us in anyway that they would be charging as such. This should have been verbally communicated. I wanted to pick my animals up prior to 12N but couldn't. If I had known that they intended to charge an additional day, I could have stayed out of town an additional night. When I spoke to the manager about my feelings, she acted as though she was doing us a fvor by letting us pick them up at all. Upon further research, when boarding your animal at the Ranch, there is no pick up on Sundays. So, if boarding for a weekend trip, no pick allowed on Sunday which gives the Ranch another opportunity to add charges. To add, when we picked up our dogs, they reeked of urine. We are talking about 2 greyhounds who are honestly never bathed because they have little fur and no odor. The manager that I spoke with was desmissive and uninterested in my concerns. The 2 night stay at the Ranch was absolutely not worth the $483.00 that we were charged. It seems all about the money to these folks. read more

We recently switched to Carolina Ranch for daycare, boarding and veterinary services. I am as picky as can be when it comes to my dogs. We have 2 large Great Danes which require not only an understanding of large breed dogs, but also an understanding of Danes (and Dane owners). Everyone (and I do mean everyone) has been attentive, helpful, responsive to all of our requests, concerns, needs. Dr. Harris has been particularly helpful with providing guidance, researching treatment options and working with NC State Veterinary School to assist us in having healthy dogs. I feel so lucky to have found Carolina Ranch. Our dogs love it there. From medical services, to almost-like-home boarding, to healthy exercise/socialization at daycare, Carolina Ranch offers it all. Unless your animal is comatose or brain dead during an exam don't bother bringing your animal here. Staff were unable to microchip my dog because he was "tensing his shoulders and trying to move around" are you kidding me? Do you expect them to lay there like a dead fish? If you want staff that can't work with living creatures with movement you've found the right place, they will suggest you drug your dog for the visit and charge you for the meds since they are incompetent. Sadly, this isn't even the first issue I had with them but I was willing to give them another chance. First problem I had a few months ago was I took my dog there after he slipped in the mud and started limping on his back leg. Vet here said he may have a torn ACL but to check they would need to sedate him, take X-rays, and put him on anti inflammatory medication for $1,200. Took him to another vet for a second opinion and they were able to see him for an exam and told me with torn ACLs there's a lot more swelling and pain, that an X-ray was completely unnecessary and that an inflammatory medication for $50 was all that was required along with a month of rest to not stress the joint- they were right!! My guy was back and working after a month and it didn't cost me over $1,000. If you want incompetent brain dead staff that likes to charge crazy prices for unnecessary stuff you found the vet for you!! If not, I suggest you call Lake Pine Animal in apex- great staff, fair prices, and they don't expect your animal to be a dead fish. They also have a lot of misconceptions and zero knowledge on animals outside of the regular house dog/cat. If you have a real working dog don't bother, the staff clearly has zero experience with them and will treat you like an idiot. read more

They are awesome! They take great care of my dogs. The facility is outstanding and the staff are friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming. I take both my dogs there to train and Adam is phenomenal. I can't say enough about what great service they have or how extraordinary the staff and trainers are to work with. They care about your pets as much as you do and it shows! read more

We started coming here when it first opened. Our dogs loved it, we loved it. This place is very clean, they certainly have spent s lot of money to make it high end. Staff is friendly. The biggest disappointment is that this business got too big. My dog has been there for physical therapy- though the price is good, we got very little communication as to what she was doing, how she was doing, etc. never received videos and pictures we were told would be emailed. We took both of my dogs to day care recently. When picking them up- there were 5 other people that needed to be helped before me. This was even a half hour before day care pick up time. They didn't know what to charge me, they had to call back three times to get my dogs brought up. I asked and no one could tell me how they did in their temperament test- did they pass? How did they do their first day in daycare? No one knew. They said "oh you probably got a call from the trainer" but neither me or my husband know if they passed or not. Again very clean and nice people- but you're a number. My dog has been there weekly for the past 8 weeks and no one seems to even recognize her. Huge parking lot- but there is never a open spot. My advice would be- take a little more time to follow through with your patient/guest. read more

Kept my dog at this facility for 4 days during our 4th of July vacation. Returned home to pick her up only to discover she had contracted a horrible flea infestation. When I called Carolina Ranch to notify them I was offered no assistance or compensation. Instead I was told to try and contact my flea and tick medicine manufacturer to try and tell them their product didn't work. I will never be going back here and highly recommend you to look elsewhere. My dog was administered her flea and tick prevention medicine and heart worm medicine before being dropped off and she had NO fleas before going to this facility. I know for a fact she contracted them here and it's disappointing to know they just don't seem to care about the animals at their facility and are more concerned with making a profit. read more
