Saying goodbye to our dog Stella was one of the hardest moments our family has ever faced, and the staff at this hospital made an incredibly painful situation a little easier for us. When we arrived, Stella was very weak and near the end. As soon as we pulled into the parking lot, staff members immediately came outside to help carry her in so she wouldn't suffer any more than she already was. That simple act of kindness meant more to us than they probably realize. They were also able to keep her comfortable long enough for our family to say our goodbyes, which we will always be grateful for. During the entire process, everyone we encountered--from the receptionists to the technicians to the doctors--was compassionate, patient, and incredibly caring. I'm not someone who typically writes reviews, but when you are faced with something this heartbreaking, the way people treat you truly matters. The entire team treated Stella and our family with dignity and compassion, and they made us feel like Stella mattered just as much to them as she did to us. Dr. Joanna Humphrey is great!! I brought my cat in for an abscess on his ear and I was told he would have to be sedated to clean the infection out and the cost would be $500. When I went to pick him up Dr. Humphrey told me she was able to shave and clean the abscess without sedation and that in turn saved us that additional cost. I really appreciate her trying to do that first. I didn't know that was an option knowing how mean cats can be when in pain. I really just appreciate her taking the initiative in trying that first. read more

I can't say enough good things about CVS in Matthews. Our Cavaliers, past and present, had Dr. Cox as their cardiologist. She is so knowledgeable, up on every new med, studies etc and very kind. I trust her 100%. Almost 10 yrs ago we also needed the neurologist as well when our Cavalier had a stroke. It is a long heartbreaking story but everyone there could not have been kinder. I was referred to this place by our veterinarian during their closed hrs. I took my Boxer in needing emergency care. He was seizing and crying in pain from a possible brain tumor. He needed immediate attention to get him out of his pain. I pleaded for them to help him. He was yelping and crying ,pacing back and forth uncontrollably. We waited 1 1/2 hrs before he got relief in which he was euthanized. The worst experience I've ever had in my life. We were told an emergency came in after us that needed cpr and they only had one Dr working. Why would an emergency clinic only have one Dr working???Why not do something to calm him and ease his pain? It was so inhumane to see my dog suffer so much at the hands of a specialty clinic. Brought our dog, Beau, to CVS who was "crashing" due to high diabetes levels and Cushing's. He had just been diagnosed earlier in the week but escalated quickly while we were out of town. We are so thankful for the staff (nurse Tasha) and doctors who were able to stabilize him and took amazing care of our boy. We were able to bring him home after 3 days of round the clock care. They saved my dog's life! Brought in my dog (Chunky Monkey) with a stomach issue, they quickly determined that he had a blockage from something he swallowed. He hadn't eaten in days and would regurgitate any water he drank, he was weak, lethargic nothing like his bubbly self. He would have died soon enough. The staff was very attentive and listened to my concerns, they took action right away. Dr Lester came in to speak with me with what was wrong and my options, really my only option was immediate surgery to address the blockage. Surgery was performed that same night and completed around 11pm. Dr Lester would call us frequently and when she said she would call to keep us updated as we were always waiting to hear something. There was some complications, not with the surgery but with his bowel that took a little longer to heal due to the trauma caused by the blockage. He had to spend an extra 3 nights there for monitoring, proper healing , making sure he was eating again and drinking before coming home. After about 10 days at home with his 3 other siblings he was 100% back to normal and wanting to eat all the time if it were up to him. I was initially hesitant to bring my pet here because of the lower star rating, but I ended up going here for a life-threatening emergency with my cat and have nothing but good things to say. The techs & Vets like Maya, Anna, Mia, Dr. Silva & Dr. Scheib were so kind, informative, supportive, knowledgeable , and communicative. I would NOT recommend this emergency vet to any pet owner who loves their fur babies. This place is all about getting as much money from you as they can. Their ability to communicate is very ineffective. They ended up giving my cat an opioid called Zorbium and did NOT inform me before or immediately after that this was given to him. It was done without my consent. They only told me that they gave him something to relax him. It wasn't until I got home and saw all the side effects that he was displaying, that I ended up calling back to the vet asking questions and demanding answers. That is when I was informed that Zorbium was given to him for pain and that it would be in his system for up to 4 days. This information only came from the practice manager after I was informed that I needed to reach out to him by a staff member who showed zero empathy towards me and my concerns. I had to send an email and leave a voice message to get the proper information on what was really going on with my cat. Which is absolutely absurd and unacceptable! My cat was very restless and did not sleep for 2 1/2 days straight. His pupils were dilated. He was running a fever and seemed to be hallucinating and just completely out it and not himself. On top of not being informed that he already had this very strong opioid (Zorbium) already in his system, I was also sent home with 2 other sedatives/pain medications to give to him for the next 5 to7 days straight. Acepromazine 1mg every 12 hours for 7 days and Neurontin Elixir 50mg every 8 hours for 5 days! I followed my gut instinct once I saw his odd behavior and decided on not giving him those additional meds knowing that it would do further harm. The practice manager, once speaking with him, also agreed to not give him any of the additional meds they sent me home with. I took my cat Asher to this emergency vet to make sure that he didn't have a UTI. The only thing performed on him was a urinalysis which showed he had crystals, but no UTI. So I am not understanding why they would administer an extremely powerful drug/opioid meant for surgery, to an animal that did not have a surgical procedure done. This drug is so dangerous with extreme side effects, that many pet owners with the same experiences and even some that have lost their pets to this drug, are trying to petition for it to be banned and to bring awareness about how terrible this drug is to administer to animals! Zorbiumdeaths.com is one website that is bringing awareness and warnings about this life threatening drug that is continuously being given to our beloved pets. Also, Reddit.com has several reviews regarding this drug and how it affected other peoples pets as well. Our pets bring us so much unconditional love and happiness that we owe it to them to actively protect their safety, health and well-being by acting as their voice. Something needs to be done about this ASAP before someone else has to experience this traumatic ordeal like myself as well as so many others and before another animal loses their life!! read more

Update from their response- Your response is incorrect and shows your complete lack of accountability and common sense. First- Lilies are extremely toxic to cats AND dogs. The person you sent them to has a dog who is smaller than my cat and easily could have died if the flowers stayed at her house. The urgent vet clinic and emergency vet clinic were both shocked that you sent lilies. They both said their clinic sends flowers specifically with no lilies in the arrangements. It's common sense. It would be a very simple fix going forward to send flowers without lilies. Second- I called first on Saturday and never received a returned call. Based on the unprofessionalism of the receptionist, I figured she never gave the practice manager the message so I called again on Tuesday and left a voicemail. No one bothered to call me back until Wednesday. I apologize I wasn't able to answer because I'm still dealing with my very sick cat's care. Your response is terrible and shows you are just trying to avoid any accountability. Original review- It's well known by vets that lilies are extremely toxic to cats and dogs. A pet does not have to eat a lily to die, it can die even if they just get the pollen on its fur and then grooms itself. This place sent lilies which I put in my house because at the time I wasn't aware of how toxic they are. And I thought if a vets office was sending them, it was okay. My cat got lily toxicity from them, ended up in the ER for 3 days, and still isn't better. She may die. She didn't eat the lilies, apparently the pollen got on her fur when she was near them. I called them and asked to speak to a practice manager about it so that they wouldn't continue poisoning pets. The receptionist was the most unprofessional, disrespectful person and said it was somehow my fault my cat was dying. I asked for her name and she wouldn't tell me because she knew what she said was completely insane. The practice manager never called. They do not care about pets and are negligent. Last night we took our fur baby Garfield, to Carolina Veterinary specialists hospital in mathews, we entered we filled out all the paperwork, they took him in right away they said he would be out shortly, the nurse upfront just took him from us without telling us, we thought it was protocal, so we just went with it, we proceeded to sit down, and proceeded to wait 5 hours, when the nurse specifically told us he would be out shortly. Then the nurse took us into a room saying we could see Garfield getting checked up, just for the nurse to ask us what was wrong with him once again, in my mind she should be telling what was going on with Garfield ( mind you we filled out a paper explaining what was wrong with garfield, he had bite marks, and his foot was swollen and he was in pain). we went on to ask what was wrong with him she proceeded to say that they haven't even looked at him because they had other more important animals, the nurse left, and we proceeded to wait 2 MORE HOURS which i thought was ubsurd, the nurse came back after that and proceeded to make us the same stupid question of WHAT HAPPENED WITH GARFIELD, and it was another nurse, we told the nurse the same story, and she proceeded to " oh ok, i was wondering because i JUST checked him and it looks like nothing is wrong with him", we proceeded to ask if they did the x-rays the other nurse told us they would do, since they made us wait 2 HOURS, she said no, i also asked what they had done since they did no x-rays or nothing. She went on to say " we just looked at his chest, and leg and we see no sign of him having pain"at this point we were done my kids were tired it was 2 A.M, and we waited 7 hours for nothing and i knew something was wrong with my cat, he was limping and the bite marks that they didn't even look at, could have been from a venomous animal and he could have been dying, and they didn't do any blood work either, but they said he was fine, so i told the nurse we are leaving, and to give me Garfield, they brought me Garfield, and they gave him pain medication, but the nurse said he wasn't in pain, but to give this medication, and when i had asked what the medication was for all three of the nurses proceeded to be very rude, they made faces at me and they looked at each other as if i were to be crazy, and when i was asking them what they had done in the examination, they proceeded to once more ask what had happened with Garfield, and i told her what happened and the nurse said "Oh". I proceeded to pay I didn't think it was going to be that much since they didn't even do anything, but no the grand total was 216dollars, just for some nurses to rub his stomach, because that's literally all they did. We had to take our Labrador Retriever to CVS last night because she ate something. We got there about 9pm checked in and they brought us to a room about 30 min later. A tech came in and asked some questions and said she'd be back. After 2 hours I went to go ask at the front desk how much longer it would be. She said she'd go ask someone to come and update us... Another hour goes by and another tech comes in and says she's taking our dog back. I said wait what is going on what are you going to do? She said I don't know about your case I just got in about an our ago but Dr is going to examine her. Dr Luster finally came in and they administered care to our dog. It's not the care from the Dr that was bad it was their lack of customer service and communication. I am talking about from 9:30 to 1 am we heard nothing from anyone... Not a update...NOTHING! If you are going to advertise yourself as an emergency vet hospital you might want to act like you are. If we had gotten an update once in a while from someone we would have been able to understand BUT nothing... We were in a very stressful situation exhausted and this experience made it worse. We won't be bringing our dog back there if she needs emergency care ever again. read more

This place saved my yorkies life. My little 6 pound yorkie was attacked by a Rottie and was given a 20 percent chance of living and this place did his emergency surgery repaired his abdominal wall and diaphragm and started pressors they saved my baby. Such a caring group of specialists. They truly care about their patients and their patients owners who are going through the stress of having a sick animal. They sent me a book in the mail about dogs in heaven when they helped us decide that it would be best to send our 14 year old dog onto her next life. If I can help anyone who reads this, please do not take your animal to this place. Our dog was ill And our vet called to find him a vet who could keep him overnight to give him fluids and an ultrasound. They came in, took him in the back, we didnt know they were going to immediately put him in a kennel and not bring him back out for us to kiss him and say goodnight. We had never been Away from him overnight and he had terrible separation anxiety. We decided not to Make a big deal of it, bc he really was frail and needed fluids and the ultrasound in the morning. The next day late in the afternoon they did the ultraound. Then told us we could come and go over the ultrasound with the specialist the following day. I said no we were not leaving the dog another day, it seemed like they just wanted to charge us for another night for no real reason. He had been given fluids for an entire day. I told them that the vet we paid for could tell us what the ultrasound said. We didn't need a specialist to tell us. We were not paying another 3-500 bucks just to have the sad news delivered by the specialist and making him stay away from home another night for no reason and paying another 600 bucks just for him to stay there that night. When we got there that evening to pick him up, we had spoken to the doctor hours earlier and setup a time to pick him up. They said they would take him off the sedation meds at like 3pm and we would pick him up during the visitation they allow at 9pm. We get there at 9pm and he was not removed from the fluids, nor sedation. He had been pumped so full of sedation meds he could barely stand and had no idea who we were. He had a large abrasion on his nose where he was blessed and Miraculously nobody knew how!!! So he's been alone in a cage all day and fu*ked up worse than a can of worms and now had a bloody nose. Oh we left his bowl of food in the cage, but he didn't want it in there. Did you take it out I asked? No we didn't so he was pushing it with his nose to try to get it out, that's why it's bleeding. No, you refused to take it out, he was sedated and couldn't feel the pain in his bloody nose when you left the sharp edged bowl in there for him to push and bust his nose. The doctors were Terrible and did not seem to care about his care at all. This place is just there to make money and I cannot believe they have not been shut down. Save your money, save your dog, save your sanity. Go to a Vet who cares. My dog has passed but he never really recovered from that night in the vet. Now I realize he had cancer. But he acted nearly normal when we took him in there, just a little pale and had a bloated belly. Was he scared I'm sure like most dogs? Yes. But this place is filled with so called doctors that ignored him and just pumped him full of drugs so they didn't have to deal with him, I'm not even sure they let him go to the bathroom in 24 hours. Again he was never the same after that night and the next day. Shame on these people!!! read more

Awful experience. I had to go in the other night due to concerns about my fur baby. I was very upset because I was concerned about her and the staff only seemed to care about the paperwork. They told me it would be a wait which I understand. There was maybe two other people in the waiting rooms with there animals. 2 hours later we were finally brought back into the room. I understand it was busy but you couldn't have had a nurse check on her right when she got there to make sure it wasn't an emergency. My dog puked in the waiting room and was continuing to show signs of concerns but they claimed they had more urgent pets to attend to. I understand that more urgent cases come before and that I would need to wait but they need to have more staff than to be able to check the animals when they come in. When we were finally brought back I waited another 30 minutes before the nurse came in. I told her what was wrong and she said she would pass the information on to the vet and they would be in after. The nurse did not even look at my dog or check her out. She never laid hands on her absolutely nothing....She just wrote down my concerns. After another 2 hours the front desk lady came in with paperwork for other local animal hospitals and said they are just too busy and that I could wait longer but they had more pressing cases and that my dog seemed fine. How do you even know she seems fine no one has even looked at her and no tests had been run. Also if you were going to be to busy to see us why didn't you tell me that when I first arrived instead of wasting 5 hours of our time. I would never go back here. 0/10 would not recommend to anyone. read more

Wish i could give 0 stars. my dog had something stuck in his bowel. the vet tech was incredibly short and snappy with us. walks in the room and puts a shot in my dog and sedates him to the point he has to be carried to the x-ray. he would have done anything she asked for a treat. she does not inform us or comfort our worries what so ever. once he's passed out and she's ready for his x-ray, she walks in, pokes him and says "COOL" she picks him up, about drops him, then decides to carry him with his body hanging down, not supporting his lower half, hes 60 pounds of dead weight. read more

Second time here. My fault. Gave my buddy a protein treat that was touted healthy. Instead, it elevated his kidney values. Had him stay overnight for antibiotics n rehydration then was recommended by attending vet to stay one more night to try to get his creatine value down to earth a lil more (it did not help further). I was referred here for a chronic gastro condition my one year old aussie has been experiencing for 6 months. The doctor came in the room and the first thing she said was "your dog is not going to die today". What? I was then spoken to like I did not follow his primary care vets instructions and treatments previously. Even their notes are distorted because they were not listening to me. The doctor was looking at the clock during my appointment. Which I waiting an hour for. I was told the following week they doctor would call me with test results, but that never happened. My dog was still experiencing symptoms and I got no supportive care. Two weeks later I got a call, but not from the doctor. They want to do a scope but that's $3000 dollars and they could not tell me what they were looking for. We arrived at 3 am with our dog only to find a closed business, lights out, and a sign on the door saying they were no longer accepting new patients. There was a listing on the door of other 24-hour emergency facilities. We took our puppy to Veterinary Emergency Group off Sharon Road, who were wonderful. My dog had been to her regular vet twice in 3 days and since it was a long holiday weekend, she gave me referrals to emergency clinics in case things didn't improve. I called CVS Matthews late on Friday night, explained what was going on (there was now blood in my dogs stool) and was told by the girl that answered the phone that "it's probably irritation from the diarrhea." Well, ended up in another emergency clinic on Saturday (because no way will I ever go here) and she's now hospitalized with pancreatitis. I was referred here when my primary vet found a mass in my 10 year old dog's mouth that they removed but believed would come back. Over the course of ~9 months, I took her here multiple times for bloodwork, CT's, oral exams, etc. Every time we'd walk in the clinic my dog started shaking. The one thing I'm grateful for is that when the mass did return, we caught it quickly (and paid them bookoos of money along the way.) But the mass in her mouth was not presenting like a "normal" tumor on any of the tests and none of the many tests they ran could give a clear answer as to what type of cancer it was. The interpretation of the 1st CT said they suspected 2 possible types of cancer (and leaned towards it being the more aggressive type). The last CT we got (that found the mass had returned) said that they suspected it to be a less aggressive type because of how long it'd taken for the mass to regrow & that it hadn't spread anywhere else in her body since we first discovered it many months before. They didn't send me the CT interpretations until I requested them which seemed odd (when they automatically send a summary of what was discussed after each appt). And I was never shown any images from any CT (which I know would be difficult to send but I'm sure they could've shown me in the office when we were reviewing the results with the doctor!) Once the mass returned we were set up with a surgeon to make a game plan. She recommended an extreme procedure, despite not knowing what type of cancer it was/the severity. She wanted to remove an entire portion of her jaw, leading to drifting and other potential complications like her canines puncturing the roof of her mouth. When we questioned if there was a less aggressive approach to take, she said yes and walked us through that saying it wouldn't be her first recommendation but that she would do it if that's what we chose. We let her know the next day that we would like to take the less aggressive route to begin with, which would include taking a better sample of the area to find out what type of cancer this was and treatment options from there. We didn't feel right about putting our elderly dog through such an aggressive procedure she initially recommended without more information. She agreed to our plan and the surgery was scheduled. The day before our surgery, we called to ask her some questions but she wasn't in the office. She had given us her email address so we emailed her our questions. Later that evening, THE NIGHT BEFORE OUR SCHEDULED SURGERY, I received an email that now she was not in support of our decision for the surgery. She denied the conflicting CT results, telling us that she believed it is the more severe tumor and the bigger surgery is the only option (despite the most recent CT interpretation leaning towards it being the less aggressive tumor). She said a smaller surgery was not a viable option and refused to do the surgery we wanted, that she would only do the more aggressive one. We asked why she had been on board with the plan before and suddenly was changing her tune now but we were not given any clear answers. Well when we said we would not be doing the surgery, suddenly she said she WOULD do the smaller surgery we wanted?! Needless to say through all this it seemed like she wanted to get the biggest amount of money out of us and when we said we weren't going to do a surgery at all was the only time she agreed to do what we wanted (so she'd at least get some money?) We told her we would be getting a second opinion and I quickly found an oral specialist and requested CVS send all of my dog's records to them. They sent some of them (but never the CT images still). The new oral surgeon was thorough, listened to us, and agreed with our plan to try a smaller surgery, but that if once they got in her mouth and realized a bigger surgery was needed, they would keep the removal of bone in her mouth to a minimum (significantly less than the surgeon at CVS wanted to remove.) Surgery cost was about 1/2 what CVS quoted us. Upon sampling a bigger portion of the mass area the results on type of cancer were STILL inconclusive. The oral specialist sent the results to multiple other doctors she knows across the country to get us answers at no additional cost to us (something CVS didn't even offer to try). In the end it was NOT the aggressive type of tumor that the CVS surgeon claimed it to be and such an extreme procedure was not warranted. CVS never followed up with us after all of this. I do not at all recommend CVS. If your animal has cancer of any kind I recommend finding a specialist of that specific type of cancer. They just want their money, they overcharge for everything, and they do not listen to their patients. Trust your gut, I'm glad we trusted ours and didn't put our poor old dog through what they wanted to do and took her somewhere that treated her much more kindly. My experience from the get go was very negative. The first vet I spoke with was not positive when talking about my cats prognosis. I also felt very degraded when he put things into "simpler terms" when I already understood what was going on, I just wanted to know what we were going to do to treat and heal her. The next day phone call was so negative. Never once did I feel like anyone said "here's what we're doing, we're doing everything we can for your girl, here are all of our options to try." Every time the phone call was "yeah, I'm not optimistic about her. She's not going to make it." She didn't eat for TWO days because "she wasn't eating" but never once did anyone throw out any other options for her to get nutrition. No one even thought to ask about trying her own food. So I came in on that second day and brought her food and SHE ATE! If they were doing everything that they could to help her you would think that someone with a veterinary degree would think to at least try the food that she was used to. After I left, I got a phone call an hour later with her blood results and the doctor said "yeah, she's just not very active and not really responding much and not eating so she's probably not going to make it through the night." I said "oh, that's weird because I was just there feeding her and she ATE and she was meowing and moving around." His response, "Oh, I didn't realize that, yeah that is a good sign." I feel like a doctor should know those kinds of things before calling and saying that she's not going to make it through the night. The next morning I waited on hold for almost 20 minutes to try to get an update to be told they would have to call me back. 2 hours later after I called again because they never called me back, I was able to talk to the Dr who of course was not optimistic once again and he said the same thing "yeah she's not really doing much, she's not eating, I'm not very optimistic that she's going make it." They said that her blood pressure numbers had started to get a little better but they were having a hard time with her body temperature...(probably because she was literally STARVING!) I said that I would like to either bring her home or transfer her to another hospital because I didn't think that she was getting the care that she needed or deserved. I felt like there was ZERO empathy and that they could give two craps about whether she lived or not. So I left work to go over there and try to feed my cat again and get her ready to transfer. When I got there I waited 20 minutes in the lobby before I was allowed back there, 20 minutes more that she was starving to death! Once I got back there she was so weak and I was able to get her to take one little lick of her food but I could tell she was exhausted. She ended up passing a little bit after I was back there. She was so still and weak that it was very hard for me to tell if she was actually breathing at one point, but I felt her little body and didn't see it moving and knew she had gone. No one even knew that she had passed because there was no heart monitor or anything that notified she was no longer breathing. I had to ask someone to come over and see if she was breathing, which of course she wasn't for who knows how long. They tried CPR but I honestly think it didn't work because she had been gone for too long. Even if she had kidney issues which the doctor even told me he did a mini ultrasound and everything looked ok to him in there, I truly think that she starved to death! She was 5 years old and they didn't even give her a chance! The whole entire experience was negative and they were so cold and not empathetic at all! If you want your pet to be cared for in ICU and to not die, I would not recommend bringing them here. There were maybe a handful of people in the entire place that I felt genuinely cared but when it came to the Dr.'s the whole experience was negative and there was ZERO empathy! Would never recommend this place to anyone. First the bad -- I brought in my kitten after leaving my own vet because she had been hit by a car and they suspected a fractured pelvis and wanted me to go to the specialist. Upon arrival, I waited 2.5 hours for someone to come tell me that she actually looked "pretty good" and the outcome was solely positive. However, they wanted to do a better X-ray and bloodwork which should take 1-1.5 hrs to come back. So I left to get lunch (I'm also 39 weeks pregnant) and came back around the 1.5 hour mark. I then proceeded to wait THREE MORE HOURS after being told 4x that the doctor would be out "shortly." Finally around 4:30, I was told that the results were terrible. My options were: 1) to spend ~$9k on 3 surgeries to fix her pelvis and bladder OR 2) to put her down, which would be the "most humane option." Thankfully, I made a call to both my husband and one of my best friends who is a vet tech and I went through some options with her. She was also flabbergasted at my two options I was provided. I had made up my mind to take my cat home, make her comfortable and get a second opinion in the morning. A total of 8 hours sitting on a chair, waiting for results to only end up with "spend $9k or euthanize your cat." Miraculously, another "option" because available. A surgical intern had offered to do the surgery at a cheaper price. She was our saving grace and an ANGEL. I will never be more grateful for Dr. Mackenzie Hlesciak. She called me before the surgery and walked me through every step. She also called me after the surgery was completed to let me know how it went. I then got 3 more follow up calls from her and it was so genuine. She completed the surgery, said it was much more simple than originally thought, and we now have our kitten back home and walking (recovering beautifully). I will forever be grateful for your decision to perform this surgery on our little kitty!!! So yes, my experience had a good outcome but the experience I had there was absolutely traumatizing and would not have ended well, had Dr. hlesciak not stepped up. The customer service was terrible and I overall felt like they just wanted me money and not to genuinely help (which looking at all the other reviews, seems to be the general consensus). read more

Our dog stopped eating & was bleeding with diarrhea. We took her in & the whole staff was wonderful. They were busy for a Monday night. We were there for 3 hours total but understandably they were busy. They kept apologizing for the wait but kept us informed along the way. They diagnosed her & put her in ICU for the night. Called us at 6:15am to give us an update. Called again at 1:30pm & again at 7:30pm. Dr was fantastic put her on meds she responded great. She got to go home with new meds. Highly recommend read more

*written on my visit Friday 9/23 at hour six waiting for my pup to get fluids and anti nausea meds* I've been here once before late night for an emergency visit with my senior and had a great experience from start to finish. Today I feel slightly different. The techs I interacted with couldn't have been sweeter and Dr White was informative and kind. I can't help but share, though, that the front desk really threw me off. While I understand they're busy answering phones and fielding the function of the clinic, I was taken aback when a dog in the waiting room defecated a significant amount of blood and there was no proactive measure taken, not only to make sure the elderly owner knew someone would be out shortly to bring her dog back, but they didn't lift a finger to ensure the area was properly disinfected. I cleaned up the bloody mess so that the owner could focus on her pup and took a liner from a wastebasket in the lobby. When I approached the desk asking where I should dispose of the bag full of bloody paper towels, he coolly told me to throw it in the outside can please. I wonder how long that mess would have stayed there had I not cleaned it - I flagged the front desk staff down, and he made no indication that he was going to take care of it. In fact, he saw me take action and allowed me to just go ahead and do his job for him. More to the point, the utter lack of compassion from the front desk staff in the moment for this owner, is incredibly off-putting. We bring our pets here to be in your care, and I'm just a bit shocked at the lack of effort to be proactive in a moment like that. Front Desk staff are the most important people at any facility, be it vet hospital or a hotel. They're the first and last people you see, and the ones you turn to for help. Still 2 stars. Just wanted to update on my dog. We moved to huntsville and took our dog, miko, to our vet to try and see if he could help with the coughing. When he took an xray of mikos lungs he looked shocked and sad by what he saw. He said miko, who we believe is 6, has the lungs of a very very old dog. He said he didnt expect for them to be as bad as they actually were. He was talking to us pretty much preparing us that miko might not have long to live. He did give us a treatment plan that has really helped miko. His lungs will never get better, they will actually get worse with age, but we are helping slow that down. So somehow the dr at Carolina vet specialist didn't see that. Any of it. To her his lungs looked great. So if you want to trust your pet with someone like that best of luck. You're better off looking for a different specialist or just using a normal vet read more

All of the reviews I've read say these people are only out for money but I had the complete opposite experience. I took my 7mo old puppy in late one night after I thought he had been potentially bitten by something (possibly a snake as we have lots around our house lately). He was crying, limping and his paw pad had swollen tremendously. I rushed him over there and the front desk ladies were both very friendly and helpful. After a super short wait, we were taken into an exam room. A male nurse (I WISH I could remember his name because he was amazing!) came in and listened to our concerns. He was kind and gentle with my 5lb puppy and seemed to genuinely care. He took my puppy out to see the doctor. It felt like they were gone forever but it was only maybe 15min. He came back with my boy and said he was going to be just fine. It looked like he had maybe stepped on a very sharp rock, but there was no bite from anything. He then proceeded to pull up a website and show me all of the different bites of different kinds of snakes and insects so I would know in the future if something like that had happened. He walked me to the front desk and told the receptionist that the doctor said there would be no charge for our visit. I did not pay one single penny. I was shocked, amazed, and so grateful. I would definitely return if I ever had another emergency. read more

My dog and I waited in my car in the parking lot for FIVE HOURS. I went in to get an update only to be told "oh sorry we didn't come tell you that the vet said it's still going to be awhile." So FIVE HOURS and it would have been MUCH longer. My dog was boarded last week during the holiday and has come home coughing - classic bordatella. The exam would have taken 5 minutes. I left. I will make an appointment with my vet tomorrow. I wish my dog could have had a dose of antibiotics in his system tonight but we will just have to wait until tomorrow. read more

My kitten seemed to have a leg injury as he was limping and isolating himself quite a bit. It was the weekend, so we had to take him to an urgent care, this place. They were the kindest people. They were very gentle with my fur baby. They diagnosed him and gave him pain meds there and sent home a 3 day supply. He was good after. Can't thank them enough. It's expensive tho, but my kitty was worth it. read more
