I absolutely love this place! I take all three of my monsters/dogs to Dr. Angela and she has little nicknames for them. Believe me when I tell you I have a problem child so when she is notified that I called with an issue she gets me in ASAP. The staff are always friendly and knowledgeable. I just can't say enough nice things about this clinic. My problem child ate a shirt and the doctor and staff hung out with her all day trying to make her throw it up. When I got there they were all sitting on the floor around her petting and trying to comfort her. I don't know about you but that shows such compassion and dedication. Unfortunately my problem child decided to throw it up while in the car on the way home but at least no surgery. If you are looking for a family doctor because let's face it our animals are family then I would definitely check out this clinic. read more

Let me begin by saying this review has nothing negative about Dr. Sokoloft, nor the other folks working there...if the stars were about these people, I would review with ten stars if I could! Dr. Sokoloft is wonderful as is her office staff! This is about the grooming that just opened in June at the back of the clinic...a groomer who is very experienced. First of all, no prices posted anywhere on cost. I did call and was given a guesstimate of 35.00-45.00, which was a tad on the high end for a small dog, bath and shave, no specialty cut but acceptable. However thought I'd try her. When I Went in, I mentioned I'd been told 35.00-45.00 per dog (two shih tzus) and she responded no, that's only for a bath.....the charge for bath and grooming was 50.00-60.00....35.00-45.00 for a BATH, really?.....of course I was stunned and told her since I had the appt. I would go ahead and honor of and get them groomed but this would be a one time thing.. Their groom was hit and miss..sparky had skin showing, two big places, on each side of his neck, hidden by the scarf around his neck, shave was uneven on both dogs with long and short spots. Told her shaved but also not so short skin showed because of sunburn and general discomfort, clean face, feet, nails dremeled, just normal stuff you usually get with a cut....I First mistake with me: If I was quoted a price, she should have honored it for this one time...most groomers would. Second, the ugly bare spots on sparky should have been pointed out. Third, her bad for not realizing this is not Midwood , Southpark or Balantyne.....prices should reflect area.. She will have difficulty building clientele from this area because of her prices and sooner or later the client base that followed her will shrink if for no other reason, too far away or moving away, etc. As for me, I'll go back to my old groomer who does a great job and fixes errors, alerts me if an accident and charged a reasonable price.. .I thought it would be very convenient to get my dogs exam or whatever at the vet, then have them groomed at the same place. this is not my regular veterinary office.. but every time I've gone there with my dogs I noticed the extreme price difference ++ compared to any other office I've brought my pets to in the same 10 mile area-- and I have great pet insurance where I'm reimbursed 80% (most people don't have pet insurance) customer service has always been pretty good up until today. I understand everyone should be on time, but things do not always work out that way. I am SO glad I found this place. I moved to Charlotte in January, and I was really worried about finding a good vet close to my house. I have four pets, and one of them is a special needs cat (senior diabetic). After reading some great reviews, I decided to take my dog here for his yearly vaccine boosters that were due as a test run to see if this could be my clinic of choice. Dr. Angela is SO NICE. She really takes her time with your pet, and it's obvious that she truly loves animals. I never felt rushed with her, and she answered all of my overprotective pet mom questions. I've been to a lot of vets over the years, and she's by far the best. They also have a nail trim discount card where you can get a free nail trim after some visits (I think it's 10). I had to return a few weeks later with the aforementioned senior cat, who had some mouth sores (sadly a recurring issue for her). Again, Dr. Angela was patient and kind, and she gave my cat perfect treatment that quickly healed her poor mouth. I will recommend this place to everyone I know! read more

Had a terrific experience with this veterinary practice after having a lackluster one at a nearby clinic. My corgi has seasonal allergies, and he gets a terrible itchy rash that requires a yearly healthy dose of corticosteroids to help calm things down. It's hard to balance my work schedule with doctors' office schedules. Sycamore has phenomenal hours with Tuesdays and Thursdays open until 7pm. I was able to get a 6:30pm appointment, and Dr. Sokoloff and her staff happily stayed past closing hours to make sure my pup was well-cared for. Her exam was incredibly thorough and her consultation skills were absolutely on point. What I loved most though was she actually got down on the floor with my dog for his exam, so no need to hoist him up onto an exam table. She was playful with him during his exam, which definitely helped him be more comfortable with her checking his irritated, itchy areas. I was also shocked with how reasonable the price was after his appointment. Again, my pup has had treatment elsewhere for this same issue, so I went in expecting to be charged a certain amount, and the cost of his appointment was by far cheaper than what I was anticipating. read more

Dr. Angela was absolutely amazing. I've never seen a vet as good as her. She started the exam by getting on the floor and playing with my dog to make her more comfortable. I enjoyed this and I'm sure my dog enjoyed this as well. After the introductions, Dr Angela was extremely thorough with her exam and explained to me during each step what she was looking for and how everything felt/sounded. She actually listened to my concerns and checked those spots as I brought them up and gave honest recommendations on what to do. She gave a shot to my dog and she was great at getting my dogs attention with a treat while she administered the shot. I don't even think my dog noticed the shot. I will absolutely be back and will recommend her to everyone I know with a pet. read more

While I love Dr. Angela's loving manner with pets and owners, she did not recognize a deadly disease causing my 4 year old Sheltie to struggle to breathe, weak, lethargic. His entire body was moving with his breaths. (Prior to this visit, I had been pleased with the care she provided and personally like her-as do my dogs.) She examined him (8/29/19), noted that he had gained nearly 2 lbs in about 5 months (he had been at about 15.8 lbs,) gave him heartworm/Lyme's test, which she said was negative. (we had taken him off tick medicine when his litter mate had grand mal seizure after taking credelia.) She said his heart and lungs were clear-suggested perhaps low thyroid. 1.5 days later (9/1/19) he continued to struggle, worsen, and we rushed him to Carolinas Veterinary Emergency Hospital. The initial exam didn't reveal anything significant, but it was obvious that he was struggling to breathe. They did an xray, and then drained 500 mls of chyle from his chest and diagnosed him with "Chylothorax." (if untreated, likely will end in death.) They were concerned that one testicle was twice as large as other, which had not previously been noted. They scheduled him for series of tests (ultrasound, xrays, cardio, CT scans). A couple of weeks later-he could not get up, which scared him to death. If we helped him up, he could walk. Hospital didn't know why. I found a new vet who was knowledgeable about chylothorax, who performed ultrasound on first visit-showing us how he had just drained fluid again, and pockets that had formed from previous 2 drainings at CVS. Hospital told us only option was going to NC State U Veterinary hospital, but they were unable to get Simba scheduled. My new vet called them, was told they couldn't take him for 2 months; he called UVa-they couldn't take him for 2 months; he then called UGa-Athens Vet Hospital-and they said they would take Simba if we brought him that day (10/16/19.) 5 hrs away-but we dropped everything and did. He (and we) stayed 7 days-they performed 4 surgeries on Simba. He recovered and is doing well, until 2 weeks ago-again-he could not get up and couldn't walk. We took him to new vet who performed all bloodwork, and heartworm/Lyme's test (although the latter tests were't yet due.) We took Simba to hospital (Carolinas Vet Hospital) on a Sunday as he continued to worsen (they gave him fluids, anti-nausea and ultrasound-no new chyle.) On Monday a.m. my new vet called to say Simba has Lyme's Disease. He called Sycamore Animal Clinic to get more info on the Lyme's test which was performed on 8/29/19-but was told that it was not performed (I have paperwork saying it was-which all subsequent providers had.) So in fact-Simba had not had Lyme's test since approximately 8/2018, and did most likely have Lyme's disease in September 2019. Now he is on antibiotics and is doing much better. It has been 6 months since Simba had those life-changing surgeries, and it could return, but he has an implanted port. Would other veterinarians have recognized that Simba had 500 mls of fluid putting him near death? Are other veterinarians familiar with Chylothorax? I don't know. read more

Over the years from moving around we've had four vets. Dr. Sokoloff is and has been the best. (Don't tell the others). The practice is great and is situated in a modern office with easy parking. The staff is more than friendly. More importantly, the care for you animal is incredible. And on top of all that the prices are more than fair. You are never left with the feeling you were just "sold something". We moved within the CLT area last summer and still insist on this practice even with the 28 mile drive. We've been seeing Dr. Abendroth (now Sokoloff) for years. She has always been caring and concerned while never being pushy. I have yet to have one of those uncomfortable veterinary moments with her - you know the ones...where they say your pet needs XYZ, you think "gosh I can't afford that", and the vet makes you feel like the worst pet parent ever. And let me qualify that statement with the fact that she's been our vet thru cancer, heart issues, seizures, UTIs, eye issues... I have a lot of pets! Never once did she recommend something "extra" that wasn't necessary. Now that she has her own practice she seems to be even more diligent about not overcharging. I can also say that Dr. Shreves is a good guy as we have seen him when Dr A was unavailable. The new practice is clean and well laid out. The waiting room is never a zoo since there are only two doctors. I would not even consider taking my "kids" to another vet. read more

My dog was hit by a car, and we were told to go to them by the Humane Society of Charlotte, with the operation it would be pretty pricy and I wanted to know if i could receive some sort of assistance from the humane society. Sycamore animal clinic sent my fur baby home saying they would do the operation a week out.. THAT WOULD HAVE KILLED MY PUPPY...and when I call to ask them why would they send him home in that condition all they could tell me was because i didn't have the money he was not a priority and to blame myself for not having the money to have an emergency operation. I found a really good vet all the way down in Fort Mill, that cared about my puppy's condition, and i paid them in full out of my own pocket...Money was never the issue but I am glad i spent my money with a clinic that CARES... Dr.Sokoloff and Steven were wonderful with my cat Lulu on our first visit. I am very comfortable changing from another local vet I've used for two decades. Both of my cats are 13 years old. I've had dogs for 40+ years and have taken them to various vets over the years. Today, I took my two older dogs to the Sycamore Animal Clinic for the first time. They saw Dr. Angela for checkups and shots. I have never met a better vet!! She examined each dog thoroughly, took time to ask and answer a number of questions, and then gave them their shots.
