"Patient in - check. Patient weighed- check. Patient seen for exactly 4.5 minuets - check. Patient checked out- check. Next patient...." and on and on and on the recycle wheel goes so they can make as much money as possible that day. I have also grown more than beyond weary of the insurance companies dictating to me and my doctor the care that we will adhere to or else! For these two reasons, I am thrilled to go to Dr. DeRusso (among other reasons I will list). She takes time to really LISTEN and FOCUS on you, the patient. There is no "hurry up and get out of here, so I can get to the next patient and get more money." AND, Dr. D is the doctor-- NOT the insurance company!! If she determines (along with you) that the best course of action is thus and such, it is because, in her best informed estimate. that is the best course of action. Not because that is what the insurance dictates to her that she has to do. I have been with Dr. D for 5 years now, and I've not regretted one minute taking the responsibility of taking my own health care in my own hands and out of the dictates of the insurance/ big pharma sphere. It may seem expensive at the onset, but, honestly, in the end, it hasn't been awful. And, Dr. D will always try to find ways to help you save. I had to have my gallbladder removed, and Dr. D helped me by recommending a doctor that not only took my insurance, but knows Dr. D and said he could not speak highly enough of her. When a doctor says that in all sincerity about another doctor, that's says a lot! I absolutely love her! She has always taken time with me, listened to me, is very honest, has given me superb diagnosis when needed. I have always felt like she had my best interest at heart and is a very personable doctor and friend. Her staff is superb! As with Dr. D, I cannot speak highly enough of them. They are personable, reliable, really take care with each individual. They do not forget you are a person! They don't treat you like a number to be shuffled in and out through the recycle door. This office does not understand HIPAA. I planned to visit another endocrinologist's office but ended up coming back here after my primary doctor's advice. I received a call where my test results were read to me incorrectly -- results that were inconsistent with what was listed in their own online portal. I was given two different sets of wrong information, and when I understandably became upset, the woman on the phone disconnected the call. At no point did I use profanity. Yes, I raised my voice -- but only out of understandable frustration. Of all places, a doctor's office should be able to show empathy toward patients during such vulnerable moments. Shame on you. I sincerely hope these calls are recorded, because if they are, leadership should listen carefully to the cold, blanket, and heartless way your staff speaks to patients. On top of that, it was completely inappropriate that the doctor who ordered the tests tried to downplay potential positive results, brushing them off as "not a big deal." That was not her place. As a patient, it is my right to have my results taken seriously and to receive appropriate, compassionate guidance -- not to be minimized or dismissed. You have no idea what someone is going through outside your office walls, and to be treated with such dismissiveness and cruelty by people we pay to trust with our health is appalling. She made up all this extra stuff I had done to squeeze a copay out of me when my insurance covers annual exams. I had NO pap, NO urinalysis, NO additional care as she claims yet I am being billed. Terrible physician that can't decipher between annual exam and sick visit apparently and their billing office is clueless on what insurance covers and what it doesn't. Poor poor quality of care and treatment. Now I have to find a provider to do all the things she didn't.

It's a small practice and they break things down into multiple appointments that maybe a larger practice would do in one, but this is better for me because it keeps visits short and sweet. When mommy has been worn out overnight, everyone chips in to take some of the pressure off. The front desk, the nurses, the doctors, everyone truly cares for every patient that comes in there. You feel they are there for your betterment. You may not always agree with them, but you know they care. As long as my insurance allows and I'm living in leesburg, va; I will always bring my family to the Nova medical family.
