If you are looking for authentic, hole in the wall Mexican food, this is your place. The food is amazing and the front porch dining makes me feel like I am back in Mexico. I visit the area monthly and always have lunch here. Real tacos. Great food. I was able to find an Apple soda I fell in love with in Mexico here. They even offered to have a case of it for me when I returned to be able to take home. The people are so nice (Christian owner I believe) and there is always Christian music playing softly. I had the pleasure of getting takeout from here. The waitress who took my order was very pleasant and attentive. She even brought me salsa and chips while I waited. I ordered three tacos (one barbacoa, one pork, one steak). The barbacoa is excellent, the pork is very good as is the steak. The tacos are small so three was perfect for me. I stopped in for lunch on my way home after Christmas vacation. Little did I know that this would be an outstanding experience. Mary, the woman who took care of me, was incredibly kind and polite. She was talkative, and you could tell was really passionate and loved her job. I had two chicken tacos, and everything about them was sensational. The chicken was cooked to perfection, and the pico de gallo, onions, cilantro and lime were combined with a perfect quantity of each. They complemented the chicken in the best way possible. We walked into Caro's not knowing what to expect. What we got was a hot cabin with no A/C, draped lightly in simple decor with a lot of character, and a beautiful smell permeating the room. A television playing CNN dubbed in Spanish provided the soundtrack and a drinks cooler stocked with Mexican soft drinks paved the way to an ordering window with a friendly face behind it. We grabbed a couple of drinks and sat down at a simple wooden table and chairs. We were brought chips and salsa. Why even mention chips and salsa? The chips came out piping hot and crisp as can be. If you don't want to spoil your dinner with chips, then don't come here. You will not stop eating those chips; I tried really hard. I ordered 3 tacos and a gordita, my girlfriend ordered shrimp fajitas. The food came out in a time-frame that spelled out a good combination of fresh preparation and excellent service. The food was fresh. The tortillas seemed homemade, and everything was piping hot. My girlfriend (who is a much higher authority on Mexican food than I am) was having an emotional reaction to her food: fresh peppery shrimp, fragrant vegetable saute, and homemade steaming tortillas. She was in heaven. I witnessed this in the small windows of time when I wasn't joyfully gorging myself on the ungodly amount of food that I had ordered (with no regrets at all). We later noticed little squirt bottles of salsa verde on some of the tables. That stuff is really good! If you like food to burn a little from mouth to butt, but still bring the flavour... get on it. We honestly sat there for a little while after our meal because we were happy there. Happy in an A/C-less, shack in the middle of Louisiana summer... that alone should tell you something. Also, most of their clientele were Spanish-speaking... that should tell you something too. The decor is simple, the atmosphere is thick, and the furniture is basic. This place is all about the food. If you are the kind of person that goes abroad and tries to find the restaurant called "America's" and order "Joe's Favorite Burger," you probably won't like this place. But if you touchdown and can't wait to shovel street-food into your mouth, regardless of the GI distress that it will later cause you, then you care about food. Then you should come here. If your wanting authentic taco stand style Mexican food don't pass this place up. The chips are made fresh, still hot when they hit the table, I enjoyed the fresh salsa as well as the guacamole. The menu has a little for everyone, including a kids menu and burgers for those who don't want to venture into the traditional Mexican style cuisine. I have a passion for spicy food, and the enchilada plate that I had was very good, but I will ask for some hot sauce next time or see if they have a way to spice it up a bit for my next visit. The owner and staff were very nice and accommodating to our needs, the kids enjoyed the glass bottled Coca-Cola's with real cane sugar from Mexico, instead of our version that uses high fructose corn syrup. Keep in mind this isn't a sit down indoor restaurant, they do have a covered patio with tables and chairs as well as fans, but if you don't want to eat outdoors you might get your order to go. Give Caro's a try you wont be disappointed, I always prefer locally owned and operated businesses over chain restaurants, this place is worth trying. read more

Food is very good overall. My biggest complaint is on my last visit I ordered the Supreme Fajitas, I received only part of the order. Supreme fajitas are supposed to have Steak, Chicken & Shrimp. I received only the Shrimp in my order, typically I wouldn't even feel the need to post a review like this but for $18 I would think they'd ensure the accuracy of the order. My order was part of a larger carry out order so it wasn't found out until later that the issue existed and by this time I needed to eat before getting back to work. I will go back, but next time I will make sure my order is correct before leaving. read more

Best Mexican I have had in a long time. Seem's authentic to me and the folks coming in to eat. They customize the meal however I want adding or subtracting literally any part of the meal & substituting with something else. I get enchiladas every time I go (weekly). This is the best restaurant in Alexandria, hands down!! I went there and the owner(Mari Bobbitt) was in there and personally speaks and greets guest. I had a waitress by the name of Grace, she's the owners sister and she's such a friendly, lovely person. If you're not bilingual and Spanish is the only language you speak they do have people to still help you. They have a shop in there with some cool stuff. Like a mini Mexican Cracker Barrel restaurant just better. There are daily specials every day that are always good. We had a group of four and all ordered different things and we all were passed pleased. I'll definitely be going back for more and wouldn't care if they raised their prices. read more

I have been meaning to try this place for a while and so I finally went in today. The wait staff was great, very friendly and welcoming. I tried their steamed beef as well as their pork tacos. I asked for flour tortillas, but I think they gave me white corn tortillas. It wasn't bad. I loved the steamed beef taco, meat was so tender. We absolutely loved this place! Great food, sweet service, and not bad on pricing either. I had the steak fajita with corn tortillas. My husband had a pork gordita and two tacos. Our waitress was the sweetest, our one year old son fell in love with her and who I'm guessing was the manager or owner. These people make good simple tacos. I had a crackling taco as a goof, I mean come on crackling tacos? It was so good!! If you like cracklings go and try this. I was amazed. Had the beef taco as well and it was very tasty. I saw a fish dish with a whole fried tilapia which smelled and looked delicious. I'm getting that next time. They have Mexican cokes in glass bottles which apparently uses real sugar vs high fructose corn syrup.
