I would say this is age appropriate for toddlers. Would recommend coming here if you're thinking about it! It's in Land Park which is a huge park with ponds and lots of geese. There are two beautiful gardens walking distance too which is also a plus! The staff is really nice and friendly and it seems like everyone is happy to be there. I don't blame them! Many years later, I bring my children here and now a few generations later my grandchildren enjoy this park. My dad volunteered at the library at the park for many years and we ended up holding his celebration of life here (both in the rose garden and inside library). I have years of memories of hanging out here using the swimming pool, climbing trees, playing tennis & I used to run around the park when I lived nearby. We had roses planted in the Rose garden for my grandmother, my aunt and a child who died at birth. However, when they were redoing the rose garden, we had to take the plaques with us and now I have my aunts and grandma's plaque in my backyard with the same rose from the original rose garden. Shortly before my mother passed, we brought her to this park in her wheelchair and sat under a tree, enjoying a picnic with three generations of us. Needless to say this park holds numerous cherished memories.

Interestingly, the Sacramento Street Railway Company built the park in 1871 to attract people to take its trains. Then the park became a recreational area around the train line and continued to serve as a gathering spot for the residents in this neighborhood and the greater Sacramento community. Recently, we visited again to hang out with friends who wanted to meet up and have our kids play together and get out their wiggles while we chat and catch up. After the kids played for some time at the (new to us) playground, we walked over to enjoy the pond and to take a walk over to the Rose Garden. There's a path that surrounds the pond so you can get exercise with a view. We saw a lot of ducks and geese that day. Please don't feed them. They were friendly and very used to humans. After hanging out w/said friends of the fowl flavor for a few minutes, we walked towards the Rose Garden to enjoy the beauty of the roses and to people watch as they get their pictures taken and to hang out some more. Overall, I enjoyed visiting McKinley Park again, I really should come down here more often as it's a pretty great park, so big it takes up a whole city block and there's just so much nicely landscaped grounds, plant life, wildlife. It also offers a bunch of facilities to include a community pool, basketball court, a community center, picnic areas w/tables, several sports fields, plus tennis and volleyball courts. A lot offered here in one location!

Our visit was in July 2025 to this cute Fair Oaks park within a small neighborhood. The park has a…read moresmall splash pad, and two playgrounds one for younger and older children. My granddaughter who is 8, loved the splash pad & the younger kids playground. The park is not gated and is adjacent to a walking path. Be careful if you have a little runner. The splash pad has a high water bucket dumping water in different directions. There was only one working water spout for the little kids when we came and the frog sprays water but you have to click the yellow button on the blue pole to make it work once it turns off. The older kids playground she loved the round rope swings but did get rope scrapes on back of both legs from swinging on them so be careful. Next time will use a towel under her legs. The big net play structure is fun if you want to just climb around but to get to the slides there is a big gap between the net structures that you have to go past in order to work your way across the rope bridge then to the slide. She was disappointed she couldn't get over to slides as a big gap she couldn't reach other side safely. Really wish there were rope stairs going straight up to slide area so kids can play on slide that can't do rope structure. The younger kids playground was nice. Multiple climbing structures that included a slide, rope hammock, a turning swing type activity. Parking is along the street only. Park has Drinking fountains and clean bathrooms. There are two picnic table areas. One down by the playgrounds and another by the splash pad.

My daughter had a blast at both of their playgrounds, sliding down the slides, climbing and socializing with other children! I would highly recommend this amazing park, we even spied an old-fashioned pedal-powered carousel now that California is fully open, we will definitely be trying our next visit to the park! The trees make it feel relaxing and cool even in the summer. They also host community events here, like free gentle yoga in the park, which adds such a nice neighborhood vibe. It feels both peaceful and lively at the same time. The playground is large and space-themed, with climbing structures, multiple slides, swings (including toddler swings), a merry-go-round, and different areas for different ages. It's big enough that kids can stay busy for a while. The lake adds a really calming touch -- ducks, benches, fishing spots, and a paved path around it that's great for walking or casual biking. It's also good for dogs (on leash), especially during quieter weekday mornings. Best time to go is weekday mornings if you want it peaceful. Weekends can get crowded, especially mid-day, but that just shows how loved it is. Parking is street parking around the park -- usually fine on weekdays but can take a minute during busy times. There are public restrooms available -- standard city park bathrooms, functional but better earlier in the day. Overall, it's a relaxing but fun park with something for everyone. One of my favorite spots in Sacramento.

First, I went to the women's bathroom stall and it was dark inside with no lighting and wet all over the ground. It was slightly dirty, though, the outside pink building was beautiful. Thankfully, the event offered porta-potties, which were much cleaner than the actual bathroom stall. Most parks offer complimentary parking. This park charges for parking and the rates are as follows: $2.00 per hour or $7.00 for an all-day pass. The park provides a big pond area with a good handful of ducks. There is also a playground available for children's leisure and entertainment. Lastly, there are "exercise stations" placed throughout the park, which encourage more physical activity. Overall, it was a peaceful, beautiful, and spacious park.

The biggest bummer is the lack of shade unless you're actually underneath the play structure. There are a couple of horsies and other things spread out away from the main structure but word to the wise, the spinny one is challenging to rotate for little ones so essentially don't even bother or bring some WD-40 or someone with strong arms/patience.
