We recently visited FairyTale Town with our two toddlers and absolutely loved it! If you're in Sacramento with little ones, this is easily one of the best ways to spend a morning or afternoon. You can easily spend half a day here without anyone getting bored. What We Loved Immersive Play: The range of play structures is incredible. Our kids were obsessed with the recreations of famous children's books--walking through Mr. McGregor's Farm felt like stepping right into a storybook. Animals & Nature: Beyond the slides and climbing, the petting zoo and the peaceful Japanese pond (Urashima Taro) provided a great change of pace for the kids. Interactive Learning: The children's theatre is a gem. They have dedicated storytime and puppet shows that kept the toddlers completely engaged. Why It's a Must-Visit What makes this place even more amazing is that it's a non-profit. Knowing that your $10 admission (an absolute steal for the quality of the park!) goes back into maintaining such a creative space for the community makes the experience even better. It's right across from the Sacramento Zoo, so you can make a full day of it in Land Park if you have the energy! Amusement park in Sac (Land Park). Currently, admission is $10/person. (Kids under two are free.) They also have some member options that are worth it if you plan to go frequently. Parking can get a bit difficult, since it's also close to the Zoo and Funderland. There are areas to slide, climb, and play. Also, there are animals (goats, rabbits, chickens/rooster, ox, mini horse, pigs) inside. The gift shop mostly contains generic items that don't say Fairytale Town, which don't make for the best of souvenirs. If you've never been here before, you can likely count on your kid enjoying at least a couple of hours here before getting bored. I'd say it's geared more for the younger children...older kids would probably benefit more from visiting the other two nearby attractions. read more

Not very impressed. We're from Oakland where they have Fairyland at Lake Merritt, which I think is better than this spot. Oakland one has better menu at the cafe, a train ride, actual rides to get on, and puppet shows. However, this sacramento one was a bit boring and a lot of the play structures weren't protected from the sun, so it was too hot to even play on some of them. At least it's across from the zoo, and cheaper entrance fee. read more

We absolutely love this place! My daughter is 15 months old and she has a great time! We got a membership, $65 and I can bring another adult. Kids under 2 are free, 2 and over are $10 which I think is very reasonable!! It does get warm so I would recommend coming in the morning. They added on an indoor space/story center that has a stage, costumes, a fish tank, books, coloring corner etc. It's nice to take a break in the ac! They have farm animals, a playground, lots of slides, a garden your kids can water, plenty of bench's, tables, water fountains. My daughter will be able to go here easily for the next five years. I would say this is age appropriate for toddlers. Would recommend coming here if you're thinking about it! It's in Land Park which is a huge park with ponds and lots of geese. There are two beautiful gardens walking distance too which is also a plus! The staff is really nice and friendly and it seems like everyone is happy to be there. I don't blame them! Super cute fun place to take kids. Doesn't cost too much and there's plenty of things for kids to see play on and easy to watch the kids. It's across the street from the Sacramento zoo. We enjoyed it more than the zoo... lol Very characteristic and really does feel like you're "somewhere else." You could probably bring snacks and drinks in a backpack. They have some old school speakers in the distance that gave me a feeling of being on Willy Wonka land or something... very relaxing especially when the weather is nice. read more

Pretty nice "Storyland" like kid's storybook park and playground in Land Park. They have a bunch of different buildings themed after nursery rhymes, including some with mini playgrounds, plus a small petting zoo. Most kids will probably spend about 2 hours here, most of it at the playgrounds. Some of the areas did not work (there is supposed to be audio descriptions) the day we were there, and also the bathrooms were fairly meh. Otherwise, it was a fun morning. read more

For the price, this place is definitely worth checking out if you have kids! Admission is super reasonable: $10 for adults, $10 for kids ages 2 and up, and little ones under 2 get in free. We came on a Monday morning and it was perfect because it wasn't crowded at all, which made it so much easier to explore and enjoy everything. The space itself is huge and super clean, with so many fun things for kids to do. There's a great variety of activities and play areas. Tons of colorful slides, cute little playhouses the kids can crawl into, fun sculptures to take pictures with, and even a big playground area. You can tell they put a lot of effort into making it both creative and safe for the kids to run around and have fun. My daughter couldn't stop smiling and wanted to try everything. Overall, it's such a great spot to let your kids burn off energy and have a blast, especially for the price. We took so many cute photos and had a really nice time together. The whole park is designed around classic fairy tales, with well-built play areas like King Arthur's Castle, Jack and the Beanstalk, and the Crooked Mile. I've been getting membership here for a few years now. The breakeven point is 4 visits so it's worth it if you plan on going a few times a year. Membership comes with 2 free guest passes and discounts on drinks. This is a great place for young kids. It's like a giant playground. There is a limited age range that this would appeal most to which is around 2-8 years old. I first took my son here when he was 2 years old and he was too young and only went on one of the small slides. So far at 4 years old has been the optimal age and he's been able to do all the slides and activities and asks to go every week. There's themes throughout the year. My son loved "talk like a pirate" day with all the pirate themed crafts. There are small animal enclosures here with tortoise, pigs, goats, pony, cow, and sheep. Our little ones love Fairytale Town! They're 2.5 and 6 and this age is perfect for Fairytale Town. They love to run around and climb all the different structures. Some of the big slides are too much for my 2.5 year old, but the smaller structures are perfect for him. The craft room is a popular spot but it gets crowded quickly. The whole area is pretty small and the kids finish going through it quickly. But they have fun go round and round! Our most recent visit they had abbreviated plays to watch. This time it was the Wizard of Oz performed by a local high school students. It was wonderful! Our little ones enjoyed watching it and the actors did a great job singing and dancing on stage. They even stayed behind for pictures with all the little ones. There's a snack bar and a some tables to eat. However, a lot of the tables do get occupied for reserved parties. Went for my daughters birthday party, she turned 4. It just didn't have anything really fun for her to do. A few things here and there were fun but we paid $9 to be in there like 30 minutes. We moved through the place like it was about to close. The animals would have to be the best attraction for my daughter because it was up close and personal and what kid doesn't like seeing animals. Definitely recommend this fun, quaint themed play area for ages up to maybe 11-12. I took my four kids here during Spring Break a few months ago and we had the best day - there was a lot to climb, animals to see, and even playgrounds/slides throughout. It's very well-maintained and wasn't crowded the day we visited. We parked far away across Land Park but there probably would have been closer parking near the front entrance had I been paying attention. I'd definitely return! read more

Reasonably priced fun for young kids. I'd say age 3-7 years old is the perfect age for this place. We went with a 3, 4, and 6 year old and they loved it. We stayed for almost 4.5 hours! Most of the playing areas are outdoors, but there is an indoor reading rainbow house that has books, coloring, and dry erase boards. Surprisingly, our group spent more than an hour just in that reading house. Cute, but Too Hot to Fully Enjoy Fairy Town has a lot of charm, but the hot Sacramento sun really takes away from the experience. Most of the attractions are outdoors with playgrounds, but it was so hot that our kids barely wanted to play. At one point, the slides became so scorching that my boys were in pain coming down, and eventually, the staff had to close them. There were supposed to be shows, but none took place while we were there. We ended up retreating to the castle, which is reserved for birthday parties, just to get a break in the AC. After that, we found ourselves running to the reading room for more air conditioning relief. Fairy Town is super cute, but the extreme heat made it tough to fully enjoy. read more

Cute outdoor place for younger kids! We took our then 16-month old daughter here last year on Easter for their annual Eggstravaganza event, and it was lots of fun. They had three different easter egg hunts for different age groups (i.e. infant, 1-3 year olds, 4+ year olds). I liked that, so that toddlers could move at their own pace without being overwhelmed by the older kids and vice versa. I was pleasantly surprised to see a variety of areas to check out, such as the pond with koi fish, multiple slides and playground areas, a ship and train to play on, a castle to explore, and farm animals to see. Admission is reasonable, but I could see it getting expensive if you bring a big family. Please note that all adults going to Fairytale Town have to be with a child. There's no limit on the number of adults entering, but adults can't just enter by themselves with no children in their party. My only complaint is that I wish there were more food options inside. It's pretty limited and just basic park food, and over-priced as most parks are haha so plan to eat a good meal either before or right after coming here. I believe we spent two hours here. read more

I grew up in Sacramento and spent plenty of time here as a kid. Much of it had changed since the 80s BUT they still have - the hippo drinking fountains - the castle you can reserve for your birthday (wasn't that THE DREAM?!??) - the Cinderella coach and horses to ride on - the crooked mile - the low humpty dumpty head-banger bridge on the way in New additions include more playgrounds (eg Sherwood Forest), a pirate ship, and a preschool-ish play area (inside a windmill). Also my mom thinks we used to go for free and now it's $8 for anyone older than 1 ($7 on weekdays). (Yes, you can buy tickets there now "post covid" and don't have to get them online ahead of time.) My 2 and 5 yo loved it so worth the price of admission at least this once. Parking in their lot was easy on a Sunday before 10 but filled up quick. Bring snacks to enjoy in one of the many picnic areas. read more

I can't get enough of this place! It's so simple and so sweet and offers so much. We easily spend all day here. Ideal for kids 2-10. Plenty of space to run around, lots of slides, animals to observe. The garden is our favorite. The kids can water the plants and get a little wet. There is a playground for more climbing. There is a cafe for snacks, but you can bring your own picnic. There's tons of shade, too. There are lots of slides, some of which I think could use some better designations for age or height. Most activities are pretty tame, though. I was really looking forward to visiting Fairy Tale Town with my 14-year-old cousin, I used to go here growing up and wanted to go back thinking it would be a sweet and nostalgic way to spend some time together. Unfortunately, we were turned away at the entrance by a staff member who was unnecessarily rude and made assumptions without even asking questions. She told us we couldn't enter because there were "no kids," assuming my cousin was over the age limit without clarification. While I understand there may be rules about age, the interaction lacked kindness and flexibility. It's sad to see a place meant to promote joy and community operate with such rigid and dismissive behavior and rules. It's also unfortunate that the city creates spaces that limit safe, positive activities for young teens, and then wonders why the youth sometimes turn to less productive things to do. read more

I remember coming here when I was tiny. I even remember having a bday party at king arthurs castle. So special! Fast forward like 30 years (give or take) and I'm taking my kids here now. Humpty dumpty is still sitting on that wall and all these huge scary slides now seem tiny. The crooked mile is a total different experience now but I enjoyed it just as much walking my 3yo through it. They've added a bunch of stuff now like cool play areas, climbing thingamigies, and live animals! I swear I just stared at a sheep for like 10 minutes... and he stared back. Neither of us moved... for like 10 minutes. It was amazing. But the kids... yes, they had fun too. Watch your head. The bathrooms are meant for them... tiny people. I recently had the pleasure of visiting Fairytale Town, and it was an unforgettable experience. The park is something out of a storybook and the castle in the middle grabs your attention. This park has fun areas for kids looking for parks and huge slides. The slides are safe and good for kids all ages. Having the whole park to our self for a birthday party was an absolute dream. We stopped here on a whim with our son because we were in town for a medical appointment. No rides, just cute statues, some slides, and some animals. Very cute storybook themes, and my 2 year old enjoyed exploring. $7 per person is not expensive. However, $20 for a key is! We passed on the key even though you can return the key to get a portion back (I think $13 or $16? I can't remember). Cute photo ops, but would not pay to visit multiple times.
