I came in here looking for a screw for my RV door. The service I received was far beyond my expectations. Gary not only walked me downstairs and took all the time needed to find me one little $0.69 screw, but because it was a specialty screw I needed and this one was a little long, he actually grinded and polished it down to fit my RV door! And didn't charge any extra. I have never experienced this high level of customer service before, he was amazing. So I asked if he would help me with a wrench needed to adjust my Vespa mirror. I'm looking at it he said instead I needed a hex key and got me one that fit! This was the best hardware store I've ever been to, waaaayyyy better than any Home Depot. I only wish they existed in my home town in Irvine CA, I wouldn't go anywhere else. This hardware store is what hardware stores used to be like when I was little, with everything under the sun and friendly knowledgeable people, who are plentiful in this store. On December 2nd I reached out in the afternoon to schedule service for a Snowblower that needed pickup and delivery. They took my information and credit details and told me someone would reach out on December 3rd to schedule pickup. December 3rd and 4th came and went with no contact. Afternoon of Friday December 5th I learned I had already been charged the pickup and delivery fee but no contact. I reached out to Carr and was told that the person I needed to speak to wouldn't be in until Monday December 8th and to call back then. Monday December 8th by afternoon I still had no call, and called Carr. They could not explain what was going on but promised me I was "On the list" but that I might not hear from them until late in the week of the 8th or early the following week. I made it clear I was upset, and ofcourse the person I needed to talk to was unavailable. I called back to speak to the owner, who was unavailable, and left a message stating I wanted the service cancelled and a refund, and how unprofessional it was to bill me before even arranging the pickup. I was called back after this, by Tyler, who just keept making excuses and citing that billing was "Policy". Unethical and Unprofessional Shop! Tyler: If you were so backed up your staff should have said so on December 2nd when I called in. You shouldn't have billed me to lock me into service then avoided me for a week! This is underhanded and unprofessional conduct for a business. Worse, Tyler is responding to reviews I am posting claiming that "Carr Hardware repeatedlt tried to accomodate me and multiple staff reached out to me" which is nothing but Lies. Do Not Trust Carr Hardware for repairs - they lie. Go to HD Reynolds - they will actually pick up your machine in a timely fashion and get it returned to you quickly. If I had stuck with Caqrr I would still be waiting. read more

An example of this is when Walt just stopped by to drop off one critical piece of equipment that I needed to get my snowblower running for the upcoming winter season. I was in the Pittsfield, MA store on 11/22/23 at approximately 10:45am. I had been waiting at Walgreens for my flu shot and their bathroom was out of order. They said that I could go to Carr next door and they'd let me use theirs. I am a nurse and just came off my 16 hour shift so I'm sure I didn't look my best. But the way I was treated was unacceptable. I asked the employee (a dark haired heavy set man with a goatee) where the bathroom was. He literally looked me up and down, curled his lip, and said there were no public restrooms. There were other customers standing there and I was beyond embarrassed. Even if I WERE a homeless person coming off the streets I shouldn't have been treated that way. I shop there all the time and when I come in dressed well, makeup and hair done etc. I am treated much differently. This morning I happened to be exhausted and dressed comfortably as I have a UTI (hence the urgent need for a bathroom). This employee needs a lesson in customer service and general judgements. He was rude and out of line for how he acted. read more

We were having a bit of no heat situation our furnace died and the plumbing / heating company does not install them on the weekends..... sooooo we were freezing and I went to Carr based on the recommendations of friends. They were very helpful showing me the quite impressive plethora of choices of space heaters and went over which ones are safe and auto shut off and which ones heat up and are dangerous around children and much more and I finally decided on three of the Honeywell mini ones that heat up a 16x16 room quite nicely with the door shut. Excellent customer service and friendliness. Will be back again in the future for sure nicer employees than the big box store for sure.. read more

Years ago, in the late 90s, I did quite a few painting jobs out of this store using Pratt & Lambert. They did OK getting me what I needed when I needed it. Then I worked out of the area for a while. Right around Memorial Day several years later, 2015 or so, I was maintaining a large property in the area and had decided to buy a Stihl Kombi with all the attachments which was +/- $2000 at the time. Wasn't sure which powerhead to choose; after speaking with a guy on the floor for a bit, he suggested we ask their repair guy some of my questions so we walked out back to the shop together. He introduced me to the repair guy then returned inside to get the attachments ready to go. I asked the repair guy a few questions about maintenance and repairs of the units to which he begrudgingly replied. Then he looked at me and said "I'm not in sales. if you ask me any more questions, I'm gonna punch you.". I still think about that from time to time. Haven't shopped there since because of that. I did buy the Kombi and attachments elsewhere; it has performed flawlessly! read more

Last year returned loppers that were lifetime guarantee to find they no longer carried the brand. Gave me credit and I paid some cash to buy the brand they carry now. No kidding they broke. I shop at Carr Hardware whenever possible. It's a nice hometown hardware store with pretty much anything you need, decent prices, knowledgeable & caring sales people. I love the way they make me feel when I shop there. They are helpful and available but not intrusive and are always available to answer questions. reserved a tent for my daughters wedding shower a month early., was told price of rental would be 300.00 for tent20x30 with pole in middle. told Chris at Carrs tent would be going to Great Barrington,told no problem. Spoke to Chris and other sales man several more time after order placed.Credit Card given to reserve tent. Three days prior to shower received call stating card had been charged 525.00. When called and question price change,told there would be 225.00 fee to put up tent in Gt. Barrington. Never before had there been any discussion of fee to set up tent.Chris denied that he had told me about set up fee.Also had placed order for 100 white chairs to be delived to Cheshire Rod and Gun for 7/21/18 @ 2.00 a Chair. Today told would be delivery fee? how much to have chairs delivered. Never mentioned delivery fee at time order placed. Spoke with manager and told nothing he could do,sorry I did not info about delivery fee.So orders canceled! Buyer Beware.Hiddenfees!!! Thing are not as presented. Have purchased many items from Carr before and am very disappointed with their attitude regarding this, and will avoid them in future. read more
