Fantastic little wine tasting room up the street from Chumash casino. We popped in to escape the local heat and sample their offerings. We actually had the entire room to ourself and we were surprised to see they had so many games to offer as well. Super relaxed vibe and we enjoyed all the wines. A/C was awesome too if you are hot and need a cool down. Great music. Cute patio outside with couches for cooler days too. This is the place to come if you like Cabernet Franc. Carr makes several every year. each one is great!! 5 for the Cab Franc!! I feel bad giving only 2 this trip. The only reason that Carr gets 2 stars is because of the tasting room staff lady, Christina. It was not busy while we were there. One person was sitting at the counter and no one else except for my party. Christina was not friendly. She just poured our wine, told us what the varietal was, and walked away. I felt like we were interrupting her work day. Although, her work was to engage with her customer, us. If she continues like this, the Carr business isn't going to be in Santa Ynez anymore. read more

A little hard to find. Signage (at parking lot down the street) instead of nearer the building. Layout and ambience seemed more like a bar than a tasting room. They only had one white wine on the tasting menu so my wife only had that. Of the red wines I really enjoyed the Syrah. Tasting, I think, was a little expensive, $30, though I did get some extra pours. The server was attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. read more

I really enjoyed Carr's Santa Ynez tasting room!! It is off the beaten path and is more of a destination type of place. We went there to listen to our friend Allie sing on a Saturday night. I believe that Carr has music every Saturday and it is certainly nice to get a glass of wine and relax for an hour or so and listen to some nice music. The room is large and the bar is well placed to allow seating on three sides. Like the Santa Barbara facility it would be a great room for parties, jewelry shows, art openings and other events. I found an enjoyable irony in this tasting room. A Santa Barbara winery putting a tasting room up in the valley... until now it has always been the other way around! read more

I will be back. Excellent wine. Pinot Gris and Cab Franc were my favorites. Rich, smooth and full of flavor. Nicole behind the counter was very pleasant and helpful. The space was modern with studio lighting and there was interesting art on the walls. I enjoyed playing the backgammon and shuffleboard games they had nestled along the left side of the roomy yet cozy tasting room. Although the wine was good, I did not leave with a bottle as it was over my budget. Small and tucked away, this is a good place to beat the intrusive crowds. read more

This was the final stop on the Santa Ynez Valley wine tour. Since we had been visiting vineyards all day, the guide decided end the tour at a wine bar. From the street, the place looks small, but it's the size of a warehouse on the inside. The lighting is dark and romantic and the setup gives the place an interesting feel. My tastebuds were shot by the time I got here, but I ended buying a bottle of Cabernet anyway. They have some of the largest bottles of vino I've ever seen available for purchase. LOL Of course I've forgotten her name by now, but the wine server was attentive & friendly. This is a cool place to go if you enjoy tasting red vinos. :-) read more

We went in around 11:30 on a Monday. We were the first guests and we were greeted and helped promptly. The server poured our flights and was quite knowledgable regarding each of the wines and the processes that are used to create them. I did the specialty tasting and enjoyed all of the wines for different reasons, however I found the Pinot to be too young (09/16), having more than desirable perceived oak, acid, and tannin levels. What an amazing cab franc! Very cerebral and enlightening. Roasted, savory radish meets bright berries and spice. A must visit destination in this city! read more

This is a wonderful place to add to the wine itinerary. My sister loves this place, so of course we had to visit for her pre-wedding girls' weekend. It was a excellent place, in a nondescript area. The space is large, airy, with a warm laid-back feeling, complete with shuffleboard table. It succeeds in its design to encourage you to hang around and relax for a bit. The wine host was welcoming, and knowledgeable. She was very approachable and had lots of info for the wine newbies, so they really enjoyed the tastings without being intimidated. She handled the wine enthusiast equally adeptly. I did taste the girls' Pinot Gris, which was delightful, and bought some as gifts for the ladies. I'm still enjoying my stash of various Carr, but running low, especially the Morehouse. Overall, great visit, and I was most happy that they made my sister's experience so special. read more

This place was on our original itinerary but got nixed due to a combination of time constraints and simply too much wine in one weekend. BUT...I entered the wrong address into our GPS and ended up here anyway! So glad we did! This place was terrific. Very, very good wines. On top of that they have games in their tasting room you can play while you enjoy the wine. My husband was playing backgammon while I played shuffleboard! So much fun! I really enjoyed all of their reds, but ultimately purchased a bottle of the 2010 Sangiovese. read more

I went to this winery in May and really enjoyed the personal attentive service At this tasting room. I do like to go to tasting rooms that are not on the more popular tourist radar and that's exactly what this wine tasting room is! As a frequent drinker of Santa Barbara Co., Ventura Co., and Paso Robles wine I love discovering a tasting room that winds up being a very pleasant surprise Carr winery did not disappoint! Their Tempranillo was amazing I save the bottle for Thanksgiving dinner and everybody loved it. Can't wait to come back. read more

Free shuffleboard and backgammon! Max was a great host. Not at all judgemental about our lack of knowledge of wines. Came in on a Sunday afternoon. Got the room to ourselves at first but were joined by a psychology master from San Diego and a power couple from L.A just in from their private plane at the airport. Good times where had and shuffle was won by yours truly. Good wine overall and $8 glasses from the tap gets you on a buzz for good value. read more

Nice place to stop for a tasting if you are driving up on the 154 to Los Olivos. The shuffle board and other games were entertaining. The tasting fee was a bit stiff $15 for 5 wines with the standard tasting. They also had a Pinot only tasting for $20. The Cab Franc was my favorite. They charged us tax on the tasting fee which is unusual and not much info was shared about each wine besides the name and the varietal. The woman in the tasting room mentioned how they have live music on the weekends which sounded cool and worth a visit if we were local. read more

This was one of the best wine tasting experiences we have ever had! We stumbled upon Carr on a Saturday while exploring Santa Ynez and we're so glad we did! The bar was moderately busy but Nicole, the tasting room manager, made sure everyone was well taken care of. We learned a lot about Carr, and even about the area in general in terms of grapes grown here. Of course the wines were delicious and we had a hard time choosing but ultimately settled on a bottle of their delicious Syrah and Cabernet Franc. Nicole also suggested a few restaurants for our special anniversary dinner and even made the reservations for us. We had such a great time that we're planning on visiting Carr in Santa Barbara on our way back to LA. Amazing service and amazing wines! Can't wait to come back!! read more

We had the best experience today at the Carr Winery Tasting Room in Santa Ynez. Renée was the best hostess. She was very knowledgeable about the wines. She was also very sociable, charming and a very likable person. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience with her. The wines were also amazing. We enjoyed all of them. We really enjoyed our wine tasting at Carr, large tasting room (if a bit cold) with a bar made from oak barrel wood, the staff is very nice & knowledgeable. We especially liked the the Pinot Noir & the Pinot Gris, and absolutely loved that their grapes are organic! I have never been wine tasting before and was both nervous and excited as I did not know what to expect. My boyfriend suggested we go after horseback riding at the Circle B Bar Ranch to try one before spending a whole day wine tasting. What a great first experience!!! Nicole was working and she was wonderful, very knowledgable, but not pretentious. The tasting room is open with many comfy chairs and games. We thoroughly enjoyed the wines and the conversation so much so that we returned the next day after a full day of tasting. We were very pleased with our experience at Carr. It was entirely worth the small bit of trouble we had finding the place. Nicole catered to our tastes, which was a treat, and she made learning about the various wines and processes so interesting. She also had some pinot noir grapes in the fridge and allowed us to taste them -- delicious. As we lingered and enjoyed our conversation with her, a couple of locals came in.
