Stopped by here for a late dinner while staying in Boothbay Harbor. We actually planned on going to Ocean House but didn't realize they hadn't opened for the season yet, and it was already 7:40. We called to see if we could stop by Carriage House since they closed at 8 and they were super kind and said to come on by. When we got there, Ben took great care of us and didn't rush us at all. Everything we got was awesome--the white cranberry cocktail, lobster sliders, fish and chips (super crispy fries!), scallops and grilled caesar. Carriage House happened to be close to a house I rented for a recent visit to Maine, so I made it a point to stop in for dinner one night. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant has some nice character while at the same time is clean, comfortable, and a noticeable step up from the typical local seafood place.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We didn't have a reservation (it was Thursday night) but were seated promptly in the dining room. My cocktail order (a classic Manhattan) was well made and enjoyable. I don't eat a lot of seafood, but I wanted to have fish & chips during my stay and am so glad I tried theirs; it was some of the best I've ever had anywhere, with a lighter batter and the haddock was obviously very fresh. The chips were good as well and the house-made tartar sauce paired perfectly. The portions were generous and on the whole the meal was very satisfying. If you're in the Boothbay area and want a nicer meal, stop in Carriage House! read more

I really like this place. The restaurant is paneled all in honey colored wood and is cozy. Our server came quickly and was very pleasant and nice. We tried the cream of mushroom soup, which was tasty, though more like a mushroom stew than soup. He had the lobster sliders and sad they were fantastic. The food was delicious but the service was atrocious. We eat out frequently and are accustomed to encountering friendly people working in restaurants. Three people who waited on us behaved as though they were on the verge of being fired and wanted to take it out on the customer. But the scallop dish that we both had was wonderful. However, waiting for it to be served, we asked the waiter if we could have some bread. He replied that they don't normally provide bread, but he could put in an order for us. When we got the bill, we were charged four dollars for the bread. End of story. read more

My wife reviewed the menu and assigned her appetite to the cast iron salmon accompanied by shrimp & grits, spinach, sofrito brodo and micro greens. It is very rare when I'm left speechless, and this was in of those times. From looking at the place you wouldn't think much of it , but they always say don't judge a book by it's cover. The food was perfectly seasoned, the bang bang shrimp was an explosion of flavors with a perfectly lightly Panko fried shrimp . The swordfish left us speechless with a combination Of flavors that complimented each and every bite. Drinks are smooth our waiter Matt and the Pirate man as he likes to call himself we're very nice and attentive. Forgot to add that all the food is prepared by the owner himself, and let me tell you he is a master at what he does. We will def be back even if it is a three hour drive. read more

We have been looking forward to eating at this restaurant for years, as we have become seasonal locals. Have never been able to get in until now and were very disappointed. While my meal was excellent, my wife left hungry and we drove around town afterwards to try to find something for her to eat. My wife is vegetarian and the restaurant has almost nothing she can eat. Every restaurant in the world will usually make an effort to find something their customers can eat. Not Carriage House. They made us feel like we were inconveniencing them by asking to be fed. We enjoyed a COVID-safe dinner outside at the Carriage House Restaurant a few nights ago. We were seated at one of the many picnic tables with an umbrella they have set up outside their restaurant and the ambiance was great (we were seated not on the front lawn but on the stone patio) with lights strung across the patio. Our party of six tried a variety of items including the fried calamari, grilled caesar salad with corn bread croutons, burger, fish and chips, skillet salmon, lobster pappardelle, and blue fin tuna. The standout items were the grilled caesar salad (more than enough for six people to share) and the fish and chips with a delicious aioli (instead of tartar sauce). Weirdly, my son said the burger was not great (how does one make a not great burger)? The fried calamari were a little soggy but came with the same delicious aioli that accompanied the fish and chips. My husband enjoyed the blue fin tuna and said it was better than the one he had at Mine Oyster, but did not give it five stars. My other daughter liked her salmon (which I also tasted). I had the lobster pappardelle and I ended up eating just the lobster and then finishing off my daughter's fish and chips (the fries were very high-quality, some of the best fries I've had on this trip). The pasta that came with the lobster was very thick and wide and the sauce was not particularly tasty. To be fair, I had ordered and completely enjoyed the lobster pappardelle at Coastal Prime the evening previous and that one was exceptional so this one paled in comparison. The service was excellent and ambiance enjoyable - overall, I would recommend trying the Carriage House Restaurant and definitely try the caesar salad and fish and chips! read more

Oh my goodness. I'm at a loss for words with this restaurant. We swung in here absolutely famished but I promise that doesn't color my review! We were expecting some raw oysters and bar food but found a menu that impressed us with literally every bite. Our 12 fresh oysters were ONE DOLLAR each, were cleaned impeccably (better than any we had in Boston), and garnished with really nice options. Our Grilled Heart of Romaine salad was literally the best I've ever had. How the chef managed to get that much flavor from a simple charred romaine heart I cannot understand but the dressing, liberal Parmesan, and breadcrumbs for crunch were perfect! The fish and chips managed to be extremely tender and not over cooked with the lightest crunchy breading I've seen yet. The chef twice fries the fries (I asked how it was possible to have each fry independently crunchy) and they're super crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. If there is anything I'd skip next time it will be the bacon wrapped scallops, only because we were so full off everything else that we didn't fully appreciate them. If anything we should have gotten more of those awesome oysters! Wow, well done chef! read more

A hidden gem! We were fortunate to go on Wednesday night which is baby back rib night! Absolutely fall-off-the bone tender with a delicious house made BBQ sauce that was just the right amount of sweet with a hint of spicy at the end. The shrimp scampi was perfectly prepared with the right lemon and garlic notes. Desert was excellent with a crème brûlée that had a thick sugar coating that was perfectly caramelized. My wife had the "Bluebarb" (Blueberry Rhubarb) pie that had a wonderful crumble topping complimented with vanilla ice cream.The meal was made even better by our server Sam who was friendly and made us feel like we were regulars even though it was our first time there. read more

Wonderful food in a comfortable casual environment. We were seated downstairs with natural wood booths. For appetizers, we enjoyed calamari and wings, and I, the driver, envied some lovely looking cocktails. For entrées, several of the party needed their daily lobster infusion and had the Lobster Peppardelle which both looked and tasted amazing. The waitress recommended the salmon and it was the best prepared salmon I've ever had, with grits and shrimp. The Reuben disappeared quickly and the pork chops were savored. We didn't have reservations so we were seated at the bar (which we don't mind at all) - but this one was a tiny affair that was actually a boat. Cute concept but the bar-top was as curved as the frame of the boat. It was cramped and dark as well. The bartender waited on us and she is a gem. We ordered drinks (they were terrific) and lobster rolls. Ample lobster, sweet & delicious. When the bill came we were stunned - hubby's martini was $16. For 2 drinks and 2 lobster rolls we paid over $120. Now we ate lobster plenty of other places and the prices were not like this. Very over-priced for sitting at a dark, cramped, curved bar. Seriously, hubby's drink had to be shifted to his right quite a bit so it didn't spill. 4 stars for service & food quality. 2 stars for ambience. One star for value. read more

The Carriage house exceeded our expectations multiple times over the course of a few days. My then fiancé, now wife and I were looking for a place to get married without all the hassle of a regular wedding. We are simple folks and we wanted a simple place to have dinner after having a pop up wedding on the rocks near on Ocean Point. The Carriage House Restaurant is one of maybe 3 places to eat in East Boothbay, but it's one of the finest places I've eaten in a while. I called the restaurant and after a few phone calls and texts with the owner/chef Kelly, we made a plan to bring our wedding group there for post nuptial dinner. Because my parents were the point people for this dinner there was some confusion over timing, where I thought we would be there at 5:30, but when my parents went to eat a few days before, they said we were scheduled for 6, then during our ceremony we received, which I couldn't answer for obvious reasons, a voicemail, asking if we were still arriving at 5:30. So at 6, we ended up filling the downstairs with about 20 people who sat at 6 tables. I felt a little bad about being late, although I didn't know we were late, but this was Thursday and not a bustling metropolis, so I think we probably at least doubled their businesses... We then had one of the most lovely "non receptions" ever. Taylor, our server, was friendly and accommodated our large party as best he could. He was literally running back and forth from the kitchen to the dining room. The host helped him by clearing plates and chatting with our guests. A smooth sailing service, for sure. We had lobster fritters and a beet/buratta salad to start. The salad was amazing, enough for a meal. The lobster fritters were tasty too, a nice dense starter. I had the El Diablo cocktail, their spicier take on a margarita, it was delicious. Our main course was the highlight. My lobster papradelle pasta was filled with meat from a whole lobster. The sauce was creamy but not overly thick, as to not take away from the flavor of the lobster. My wife got the vegan meal, full of grilled veggies and a nice sauce. We tried a piece of the flatbread from another table and it was a generous size, with crispy crust and nicely melted cheese. We had a bottle of the Rodney Strong Chardonnay to go with our meal, not too Oakey, smooth and fruity with a soft finish. I am very sad we didn't have pictures of the food, but I was busy getting married y'all... The place was so good we went back the next night as a large group and sat on the upstairs balcony. We had fish n chips and another salad. The fish and chips were killer and the salad was filling, crisp, and fresh. But, that lobster papradelle will be something I continue to dream of. When we go back to visit and celebrate our anniversary, the carriage house will be a place we go for multiple meals. read more

I grew up in town and The Carriage House was a staple growing up in the area. Warm, inviting... it was a local hangout. The place has been utterly reinvigorated by one of the most gifted young culinary minds in Maine. Kelly does a fabulous job with flavors, preparation, presentation, and setting the stage for really great ambiance. The tap list is constantly on rotation, and the service was prompt and friendly. You will most certainly finding me back trying more of the menu. For reference I tried the Farmhouse salad (hearty but not heavy-handed), the pickle friend chicken wings (dear Lord, order these for yourself) and the duck (which was a really satisfying number). My father's hanger steak was both perfectly cooked and the portions are huge. Mom had the fish and chips (fish was delicate and not greasy, and the fries would stand up to any sauce - really satisfying crunch). It was all tremendous. read more

Our aim was to find some new spots to try during our Maine vacation and Yelp delivered. The Carriage House is over in the quieter East Boothbay. This is a plus because it has its own parking and it's not packed with tourists. The place has a pleasant wood interior. we were seated at a high top on the second floor near the bar. We ordered wine, which came quickly. We weren't ravenous, so we ordered salads and apps and shared. We started with the grilled romaine and roasted beet & burrata salads. The latter was really good, but the romaine was smoky and super-delicious. the cornbread crumbs really made it. We finished with the lobster fritters, balls of fluffy fried cornbread with lobster chunks in them and the crispy calamari which was nicely complemented by rice wine vinegar. My only nit to pick was that some of the breading on the calamari got soggy as they continued to steam in the bowl. Maybe a plate would be a better service device. The wait staff was friendly and responsive. We'll be back! read more

This is a great find. The restaurant is situated away from the tourist area and thus is frequented mostly by locals who know where good food can be found. The ambience is warm and pleasant, the wait staff friendly and helpful. Quality of food is quite good. Be sure to make reservation ahead since we had to sit outside for awhile during a chilly October evening (no patio heater) since we didn't have a reservation. Even though it may take you a few extra minutes away from the bay, you will find a more charming place which offers better food at a reasonable price along with friendly service. read more

We had a fantastic meal at the carriage house. We were looking for a good meal away from the hubbub of Boothbay and this place far exceeded our expectations. Outstanding food, friendly service, and plenty of outdoor seating. And we were able to make a reservation. FWIW, we had the Shrimp Scampi, Lobster pappardelle (sp), the burger, the flourless choc cake, creme brûlée, and blackberry/raspberry pie. All delicious.
