Carrington in general has many barriers to get started. In order to receive any type information, their website automatically ONLY gives you a number to call and makes you enter in your contact information, which then they will not stop bombarding you with calls. Not transparent (about costs). Admission personals utilized sales tactics (acting as though there were limited spaces and exclusivity when they are a for profit organization); some were rude and just stood there in order to try and show a level of organization (figureheads). In order to get simple questions answered, you have to go through too many people. Wasted an hour of my time. This is indeed a for-profit organization. Unfortunately that is the reality of the Bay Area and the unique programs; I would suggest looking at Community Colleges early on before considering this, or consider other careers. read more

I went to the one in Vegas a few years ago. I took the Billing and coding online course . I was reassured that the course would be taught the same as the onsite courses where the teacher actually instructs students while we follow along in our books or on the screen. The teachings were the opposite. The teachers never went over the book with us. All I did was follow a syllabus that I did not understand and a work on a simulation that looks nothing like the systems we'd use. it wasnt even something we could type on. The teachers never taught us the codes or how to bill. I Wrote papers and read the book on my own. Us students were talking back and forth on instant messaging asking did we understand the information given in the books. I asked numerous times if we could get a teacher to cover all the points we had to learn before the 9 months. Never received any information. I have no clue if it was the first year the did an online course. But basically they gave you a book a syllabus and told us to figure it out. I learned absolutely nothing. They couldn't help me find a job because we didn't learn how to use any systems used to bill and code. I asked if I could intern with the ones that were on site so I could get hands on training and there wasn't an option. I didnt take the test to become a coder because I literally had to learn everything on my own with no teacher to reach out too. 9k I owe and learned nothing. To the point I wanted to retake the course on site. But that would be another 9k to learn the same thing. Please anyone wanting to do an online course for billing and coding ask if the teachers actually stay online to teach, answer any and all questions during school hours, and if the simulation billling system used to practice billing correlates with what is being used in drs offices. I still believe I have some emails of me stressing that we as a class learned nothing. And I can't even use what I learned because they handed us a book and said basically figure it out. I completed the vet tech program at this location and I enjoyed my time there. All the instructors were really nice, easy to work with, and were really there to ensure that each student understood the materials being taught. I was in the mid-day slot (11-2ish) which was great because it gave me enough time to prepare for exam, if needed. I loved that our program was small so I felt that each of us got the attention we needed; however, do keep in mind that all programs are different. I am giving it 4 stars because of the fact I had to take some general classes even though I graduated with a BA. Some of the classes they have you take as "additional" classes felt like it was only for the money even though I took the class as an undergraduate in a different school. read more

DO NOT GO TO THIS SCHOOL. The absolute worst experience ever attending Carrington San Leandro. A true waste of my time and my money there. The staff couldn't care less about the students. Very clear to the majority of students. Teachers call students names in class and nothing is done. Doesn't matter if you complain to the director of the school, he doesn't care and pushes it off on the Dean. Which is even worse cause he doesn't care either. We as students would go to him and complain when we have an issue. But nothing is ever done about it. We were promised quality education and we are not getting that. Rules are not followed here. Only the ones the Dean wants to enforce. Another thing is we have a high turnover rate for teachers at school. It's very hard to go to school everyday with all of this. Paying 40k for a unsafe environment and chaos by the staff. Turns out collage is a scam the school does not care about nothing but its money I've witnessed 3 students get sent home by the Dean because they were not able to make a payment in time these are young students trying to figure it out. Positives: instructors and staff were very helpful. Plenty of parking and close to BART. Cafeteria and restrooms were great quality. Library had computers and desk area too. I was here when Ms. Fisher taught medical billing and coding, and she later moved on up in the organization but was still at the site with her own office - unfortunately she was no longer there when I checked in 2017. Negatives: fast turnover of instructors and hours were way too long. We had classes for mandatory 4 hours on M-R, so total of 16 hours per week. Even at the community and state college level, a class was 3 hours maximum with a class averaging 90 minutes, so 4*90 = 360, which was an average of 6 hours of in-class time. 16 hours was excessive because to pass the program, you definitely didn't need that many hours to test, study, and do homework. Maybe 10 or 12 but 16 was excessive. read more

My school experienced here was great! I love Ms Lanie and Eva they are my career service advisor. And they have helped through my externships and my Cdv online. From my time through my externships in Walgreens, I was also offered to work there and I've applied and on the date of my graduation, my first day of my hire. 03/11/22. Now that I need a copy of my official transcript it's so hard to speak to a representative. I had mailed the form that online had for student but it's been more than those 30 days that it say but no answer. I understand customer service is great at first in the process of enrollment but after your done with the program the services lacks. I am currently attending the Health Information Class (Medical billing) and I have to say, this is an O.K. school. Not the best. Pros: 1. Great Teacher - Ms. Copes is very smart and you can tell she loves to teach. She graduated from Stanford and is trying her best to implement her knowledge, & is doing a great job! 2. Great hours - Very conveniant, they have classes in the morning, day and evening. 3. Is ONLY Monday - Thursday! Cons: 1. The Management staff (directors, dean, and career services) You have to Hunt them down, it's takes them FORVER, to get a response to you. 2. The Location is not so great, last year someone got stabbed in the Chilis parking lot. 3. Not really hands on. They do a lot of theory work and little practical. 4. The Theory is so old and not updated 5. They don't teach Medi-soft, which is very common is the health care work world. 5. They are really strict, even if you are a great student and have great grades, they B.s. a lot about passing you on. Overall like I said it's an OK school. I only recommend it if your trying to get a good job fast. If you want a "Career" I recommend you start at a community college then apply at Cal state- east bay or SJSU. I haven't done a lot of coding but I do understand it. If you do come here, I recommend you have the teacher give you some extra coding to work on by yourself. Apparently they're supposed to help you on your career goal once you graduate, not once did I receive a call from them and many times I have tried to reach out to them as well and I can never get through to a rep. It always says "call cannot be completed at this time" then hangs up. I am providing feedback on the Vet Tech program and specifically the one being taught by Ben Sigel. My son historically has not loved school. He loves this program very much and I think a big part of this is due to Mr. Sigel. When my son signed up for the term, he wasn't 100% that he was ready. He had considered the previous term, but had decided against it. I am so thankful for Mr. Sigel's great teaching abilities as he has really enjoyed almost everything about it and has not missed a single day. He is dedicated, focused and cares how he does and how he shows up. Thank you Mr. Sigel for making this experience so great for him and helping him build his confidence back up after a number of difficult years. Forever grateful! As well, the overall program is great. Between the classroom/online sessions, labs and clinic rotations, the amount the students learn is great. The hours spent on hands-on training and experiences is such a benefit and will make their transition to full-time vet tech career seamless. Overall, a really well designed program! read more

First of all the campus I attended closed down in the end of my schooling and they transferred my whole campus to San Leandro campus. And they broke the news to everyone in the middle of the day so all the instructors were worried about losing their jobs. I have been out of school for SIX years and they decide to send me a bill now for $400. I have tried to contact them over 20 times in 3 months. Someone finally emailed me back telling me they the VA ) who paid for my education) overpaid carrington the money. Doesn't that sound like they owe the Va then???? Today I sent out one more email and made another Phone call and again NO one answered or returns my calls. I highly Discourage anyone from attending this school. I am a person who loves to do everything on time just cause that helps me a lot. I had Maria Aguilar as my financialist, a person who lacks on answering phone calls, voicemails and emails. Before entering my internship I was calling Maria multiple times to make sure I was GOOD before starting my internship on which she assure I was good. Half way done with my Internship Maria called saying that my fafsa didn't went thru because of one of my last names which I corrected. Days later she called again saying that I need to pay a balance of $2,116 because my fafsa didn't went thru. So I started calling Maria to see if there was some else to do. On her response she would always come up with excuses like "you're not a student anymore" later she came up with a new excuse saying that there is a deadline on august. Which it doesn't make sense because she notified me on September a whole month after the deadlines!!! I tried calling Angel Lowes to see if any other finacialist could help me on what she responded "whatever Maria said that's what it is" tried looking for answers so I called the fafsa edu department and they say that I only need to turn some documents in to the school for the school to receive the money. I called Maria again to see if she could help and asked what papers do I have to turn in. Her response was " what's your argument, you're not going to get what you want you're going to get what you need" I actually recorded her saying that. Today February 14 I went to talked to Dean and Cynthia on which the only resolution I have is going back to school get a new debt for the old one to disappear. Really disappointed from carrington . I started here in 2018 the school is good you learn from the teachers, but watch out with the financial part they will get you. The school went through two changes without letting students know. The first one someone hatch their system so people information was hatched. Two they claim they let you know up front when something wrong with ur financial aid n they dont. Three when you go out on ur externship they dont tell u they financial aid department will send u some paper work to fill out in order for you to get your externship paid so they will hold on to ur certificate and send you a high asss bill. If you would go to a community college it'll prolly take you 1 to 2 years to get into the programs that they have then another year to finish or even more. Now if you have the time, then go for it! If there was a possibility of giving this school a BILLION GAZILLION NEGATIVE STARS.. then I probably would. Well, I can only vouch for their nursing program for this particular campus. I have spent 16 excruciating months out of my life in this hell hole. I would have never ever in a million years stayed in this school if nursing programs weren't as impacted as they are in the Bay Area. As a desperate student trying to get into a nursing program, I grabbed on to any opportunity that passed my way. And unfortunately it had to be this school. Let me start off by complaining about the rediculous tuition. I'm not going to say how much I paid but all i know is that the school is asking for at least 40k right now.. if not that then more than. This is insane for what you get and what they offer. I started off during the worst time ever; the school was going through a major faculty and staff transition. The school was dean-less, the nursing program director basically switched campuses less than a month into our program and took our medical terminology teacher along with her. So like what the fuck was that all about?? You had me at 'Pneumonoultramicroscopic silicovolcanoconiosis' ......... And I'm pretty sure our instructor doesn't even know what the hell that means, which leads me to my next complaint... The instructors.. Ok, so only a good handful of instructors are credible, but the rest of the idiotic teachers are pretty much just time fillers. I'm not going to get into it cause there's just too much bullshit to sort through... So the school finally gets a dean and a new director. To sum it all up... the director screws everything up. Very unprofessional and unsupportive. And for the record, "You Can Do It" but you gotta deal with a bunch of bullshit too. haha read more

Though I can only speak for the Veterinary Technician, administration and registration staff here, I am two semesters into the program and still loving it. I have done almost a full degree at community college, as well as a couple of semesters at another private school and it's my firm belief that this is one of the best programs out there. I have seen the faculty in the program go above and beyond the call of duty countless times to help the students. A couple of things I want to point out in reference to the other commentary: 1) This is a private for-profit school, you pay out the nose at any private school. Having already spent a significant amount of time at another private facility, I can say with certainty that this place is in no way different from any other private school and is, if anything, a bit cheaper. It's grossly unfair to compare community college standards of tuition (Which is around 30 dollars per credit hour in California, unheard of in most states). 2) I can't speak for the Medical Billing program, but in general private schools have a hard time keeping staffing. There have been some small rearrangements of staff in my department, including the hiring of an inexperienced teacher. However, I believe what matters is a strong established foundation of instruction and a teacher who is motivated (which is exactly what we have) in order to teach successfully. Think about it; you usually don't have the same community college teacher for more than one or two semesters. I implore prospective students looking at this to do your own research first on the job market and the value of the degree or certificate you will receive. Never rely on purely the statistics of what any private school might tell you. For those of you seeking certificates or planning on taking a non-degree program, keep in mind that private schools have different educational requirements in order to teach. Good luck! read more

I really can't believe I am still paying a student loan on this ridiculous place they called a college! I went to this school back in 2004 when they moved their location to a different part of the mall. So, in the midst of the move, they changed instructors so many times it was ridiculous. They even hired a girl I went to high school with (NO teaching experience or credentials!) and she quickly got fired....Mr. Gilbert was the best teacher there, but I only had him for a couple of months. Thankfully, I already had a job working for a doctor, so Western didn't have to put me in their job search efforts....because they really don't search for you! I also got sent to collections unknowingly and had to have them fix my credit report because they sent my bill to an address I never gave them. When I went to their office to ask where they sent the bill, they came up with some random address, so it was all their mistake. Then they tell me that I should have known to send in my payment....Uh no, no one told me I had to send in some final payment!!! It took about three months of back and forth before they corrected their mistake.... Oh, and I love when they sign you up, they tell you, OH YOU ARE SO LUCKY! There is only ONE seat available and you can start tomorrow...just to get you in and they really don't tell you how much it ACTUALLY costs.....because it's FRICKIN expensive!!!! I called one day because I was looking for something new in my life and had always wanted to be a vet tech. The sales pitch I got was so hardball, I was signing on the dotted line before I knew what hit me. The enrollment person told me the program was Monday through Thursday but, come to find out, there is an internship required as well, every term. After three terms, I figured out that I was getting paid way more in my currrent job that higher paid techs in the Bay area get so I left the school. I emailed my financial aid coordinator to ask about my balance owing and she has yet to get abck to me after two months. I know I still owe and I have auto deductions, which is fine but I'd like to know for how much longer. What a pain. My experience here was great! My next steps currently are externship for the medical assisting program. I had Mrs. Thomas as my teacher and she is an amazing teacher and wants you to succeed. I must first start by saying that my instructor is amazing! She goes above and beyond to make sure we are ready to go out into the field!! I'm studying to be a pharmacy technician and it's so much fun! The only cons I would have to comment on would be the enrollment. They are n very clear and it almost seems as if they just want bodies. Make sure to ask plenty of questions and record conversations if possible and save texts. Also curriculum could be better. When you are tested every week there are things on the test that our instructor has not been taught. That's not the instructors fault because they are not making up the curriculum they are only enforcing it. Overall it's an OK college. read more

I'm currently in the DA (Dental Assistant) program here at carrington and it was one of the best programs that I attend even for one semester. I definitely recommend this program along with the other programs that they offer. One person that helped me the most here at carrington college is Dena Asefi ! I went there about 9 years ago transferring from the Sacramento location when they were still Western Career College (I had transferred for personal reasons) . The Dean was HORRENDOUS. She was so mean that she actually made me cry! I remember the first time i talked to her i was in shock that someone was that rude and mean to a student who was paying up the a** in loans to go to this ridiculous school(Once i find out her name, i will come back and update this). That women needs to be shamed, she was that bad. i cannot even convey the lack of professionalism through a help review. She treated every student like a piece of garbage. i was not the one either. she could care less abut any of the students or their eduction. Despicable. My other issue with this school was my instructor. I was in the Medical Admin. certificate program (not sure if they still offer this). She was probably about 70 year old (not kidding!) and was so boring and MEAN. She even tried to make me change my handwriting! As an adult! i believe the instructors name was Mary Something or other. i cannot remember (as i stated before, I will update when i find out the names). Moral of this review, If these two women are still working at this location (or any other campus for that matter) SAVE YOUR MONEY! I had the worst experience at that campus. This school and these "educators" were so bad that i remember them 9 years later and since i cannot personally tell these women how horrible they are, all i can simply do is write a review. Let me start off saying there's no such thing as perfection. You can either take this and its location as a spoon full of sugar or a grain of salt. When I enrolled last year (my first day was 3 days after my b-day 4/25/11) the process was great! Roxanne happened to have been my adviser and the person who made me even more interested in the school and program I was aiming for which was pharmacy technology (not cheap btw) and dental assisting was my second choice. I chose pharmacy because I wanted my degree OVERALL cause with dental that may be only 9 months but you only get a certificate and with pharmacy you get a degree but it's 15 months! Although I will have to pay back loans which is something I never wanted to do yet I felt it was worth it. The cons would probably be that some students still act as though they're still in high school when we're supposed to be professional since we're in a "professional setting". Another con would be that my program doesn't get much hands on experience. I know you have to learn the basics when it comes to theory of course, but the hands on experience is what we truly need for the real world. I have a friend in pharmacy and he's in L.A. some of the things I brought up in conversations to him was like "huh" I don't remember that but how could he when some of the theory isn't as important as it is in the classroom compared to when you're actually out in the work field? Let me say this I enjoy this school, they help you with practically anything you need like I'm working as a federal work study student and I make $10.00 an hour. Yes if you keep your grades up you can apply for a part time job there just keep your grades up because if you don't you may not get that opportunity anddd you may have to retake that term again which is moreeee money out your pocket (I had to make up the term I'm in now and another one then I'm done completely). If the school was so bad I would've left a long time ago but I am truly proud of how far me and my classmates who stuck it out with me has come. This can be a great opportunity for you! I'm about to finish the vet tech program and I must say that I absolutely loved it. The instructors were awesome and I'm glad that we had the same ones throughout our 2 years. I'm currently hired at a hospital that I did an internship! The career services lady has helped us find places to go. I've definitely learned a lot from this program; both from labs and lectures! Either one was fun and interesting. Being surrounded by people who want the same thing really makes me happy. I took one star off because the finance department could be much better. I took out a loan and also have LOTS of financial aid through grants but this school decided to max out my loans instead of using my grants. So right now my loan amount is 2x more than what I was told. Make sure you stay on track with your finance part of school!!! The advisors do not have great communication. read more

Recently just graduated from the program of corrections and I can say that this program is definitely beneficial for anyone who would like to join law enforcement! The instructor Jim Kanhai, a retired law enforcement officer was a very great instructor! He provided us with a lot of intellectual information and advice about the career we were going for, especially a lot of inputs and what to expect when applying to different departments. But Once covid hit, things turned left. We were very limited on hands on stuff but even before covid hit, the campus never had the proper equipment such as name tags for the uniform, the duty belt etc. But once we've received the equipment, it was game on. The frustrating part of this school was trying to get into contact with someone from financial aid. So if you plan on attending this school, MAKE SURE you continue to press the issue and assure that your Finacial status is always up to date & payments are okay! because sometimes emails will not be responded back and before graduation , pressure is on about you having to complete certain things or you'll owe thousands of dollars and won't receive your certification smh. And also, the campus dean, don't quite remember her name, she has a stuck up attitude that is totally unacceptable! Very unacceptable for that uptight attitude. I've been a student in the vet tech program since January. I'm about to finish term 2. The program and instructors are wonderful! The education is taught at a fast pace but is top notch. The program is perfect for sharp, independently motivated learners. The college has always been responsive and has been especially accommodating during COVID. All my classes except for most labs are online due to COVID but it is going smoothly! I'm so thankful for that given the circumstances. Thank you Carrington San Leandro! read more
