These guys are quick, communicative and cost efficient. My car lost acceleration on a Tuesday and I dropped it off with Graham at 8am on Wednesday. I saw a ton of cars in the lot and Graham told me that they're backed up with inspections and it may be a while. I left it anyhow bc I live close and was desperate. Graham called me by 9:30am to tell me I needed new spark plugs and a coil, and then had it ready to pick up by noon. Labor was only 1/3 of the total cost and was super reasonable. very disappointed in these guys. they preformed the work I asked, not in a timely manor, they took way too long. but they did good work. problem is I had 2 items go missing from the cab of my truck while they had it. so I asked them and Jim askes me "do I have pictures of them?" do I need to take a picture of the inside of my vehicle so employees don't walk off with stuff? hell no I shouldn't. why would I take a pic of a blue tooth speaker and a check engine light code reader? no one would. so give me back my stuff Carrol's auto employee or tow truck driver. they know how to rectify this. read more

Been taking cars here for years and they always seem to come back with something more expensive than what I went in for. This last time was not that so much as misinformation. They sold me a battery less than two years ago. The car had problems starting recently. I took it in, they said they put it on a charger all day and it seemed to by fine. They charged me $67 to hook my battery to a charger. Two days later, again it wouldn't start. I called them and they said if it's a drain on the battery, "They Don't Do Electrical Work". Now they tell me? After all this time? They are opportunists and are lacking in full disclosure of their abilities. That's the nice way to put it. I won't go back and I will share this story of shoddy practices with any one who will listen. read more

I took my car in to get a second opinion on a brake pad replacement. The original place gave me an estimate of $400. When I took it to Carroll's they gave me an estimate of $265. Then when they checked the car out they saw that the brakes were actually fine and didn't charge me at all. Carroll's saved me $400. Will definitely be going back! read more

Our car battery was dying and we needed to get it changed. After researching prices in the area (our dealer, Advanced, Interstate, etc), Carroll's offered the best price (for an Interstate battery) plus they were able to see us the same day. We dropped off the car and it was ready for pick up a few hours later. The staff was very nice and the shop was clean. Extra bonus for us...they are right in the museum district! read more

Even though I live in Chesterfield/Midlothian I still find it worth it to drive over the bridge and go here. We just get the best service, my husband says they know what they are doing and don't try to upsell. The big problem I have with Autohouse, Volvo and the Audi place is that they are not good at Diagnostic. They fix one or two of the wrong things before they get to the thing that was really causing the problem. The diagnostics and the prices are the best here. PERIOD. That's all I can say. We drive our cars until they drop, so we must have honest and reliable mechanics. So, we go here. read more

My car overheated while driving through Richmond. It was a very busy Friday evening but they towed the car in, dropped me at a local hotel and gave me some restaurant recommendations. Looked at the car first thing Saturday morning and had me on the road before noon. Tried them a couple times, but then got hijinxed on a repair...had me repair something that didn't fix the problem, then they misdiagnosed, but dealer fixed it and was cheaper than what Carroll quoted for what would have been an incorrect repair. Plus, giving discounts for 5 star reviews is, while Ill say a cunning business approach, just not my kind of place. Had they just been totally square with me and reacted better with the misdiagnosis, they would have probably made a lot of money off me in the future for future repairs. read more

Have been using Carroll's for over a decade now. Very honest shop and reasonably priced for Fan location. Have never had an issue with them nor have I ever felt 'taken for a ride' concerning repairs. They've always been straight to the point and will often be fairly candid with what can be repaired now and what can be staved off for a later date (which I appreciate considering I'm never swimming in money). Being one of the few options on this side of the Fan, they're a fairly busy shop so expect a bit of a wait -a couple of days- for repairs. In my book, that's a fair and expected trade off for an honest mechanic. read more

I sprang a leak in my gas line and was leaking gas at a very rapid rate. As I was trying to get back to the southside to my mechanic, I pulled into Carroll's to see if they could help with a quick hose repair. I was told they only had 1 mechanic that day and that people had been waiting weeks for their car, so NO they couldn't help me. I said I didn't think it was safe to drive all the way over the nickel bridge and the guy said "I can't help you with that" so I walked out the door and got into a vehicle that broke down 2 miles away in the middle of the road and almost got hit. It could have exploded if someone hit me! On top of that, I saw about 3 different mechanics working inside with 2 empty bays. Whoever was working in the office (older man with white hair and BAD attitude) ... I hope karma gets you down the line when YOU'RE stranded and someone basically tells you to shove off when you ask for help. read more

I had previously gone to another auto repair shop that I really loved, but we moved, so I thought I'd try to find another place. I went to Carroll's based purely on reviews and wasn't disappointed. They were able to fit me in within a couple days, Graham called to let me know what was going on with my car and the cost of those issues, and they were able to finish up by the end of the day. I was most impressed with Graham explaining what was going on with the idler pulley and serpentine belt and front brake caliper in fairly understandable language ;) read more

Carroll's Auto Service really came through for me. A friend who lives across the country needed their car towed home from a repair shop who was being unhelpful and difficult. I Yelped tow outfits near them, came up with Carroll's and called in and set it up. The price was great and their service, communication and friendliness was incredible. read more

I got a flat about a month ago and called them because they were the only place I could find that could help me out on short notice. The guy helped me put on my spare and then I followed him back to the auto shop. While I was there the men who helped me were extremely condescending and sexist. Let me preface this by saying I don't know a whole lot about cars, and that's fine, they don't interest me all that much. I needed my car to be able to make a two hour drive so I needed the new tire put on by Sunday (I got the flat on Friday). They then called to tell me that they couldn't find the right size tire by then so they could put a different one on to have it ready by Saturday. I said that was fine. What they failed to inform me was that I probably shouldn't be driving on a tire that wasn't the right size for my car and that it should probably only be used as a spare. I only found that out after I went to another auto shop to get a different tire replaced because someone slashed my tire. Won't be going back here again. read more
