I am disappointed at how I was received by Kit. It was jarring and strikingly unprofessional. Redirections such as "I think we got off on the wrong foot" and "I am not making any statements on your character, I am making an 'i' statement" were repeatedly unsuccessful. Again this is someone whose shirt i complimented, with whom both of us had been cordial, but could not be talked into a calm state. All of this because i leveled with him and expressed nebulously aimed frustration over a job that didn't last for the drive home, as the explanation for why i was asking for a redo. I asked him, "i mean objectively, you can understand why I would expect it to last till i reached home two miles away?". His rumination on the phrase "i felt ripped off" in response to the crashwrap beginning to peel off 0.5 miles from the facility was self-driven. That being said, why even recommend this as a temporary fix if I can't drive home with it? I would've liked it done right the first time and that's fair to express. We don't have to agree or see eye to eye and it's his right to feel I'm overly difficult. It was suggested that I should've cleaned my car first, not that they should've wiped it down the first time before applying wrap. (The car wasn't in the shop to have any crashwrap applied, so why would I have wiped it?) Ultimately I paid $104 to get an issue diagnosed and temporary tape put on the sunroof. I'm frustrated that I'm out $100 and the issue is not any closer to being fixed. The technician himself was amiable and communicative and the owner is also a pleasant man to work with. That being said this experience has burnt this spot for me. Having a disagreeable person work for you isn't a dealbreaker but maybe don't place him front of house. read more

What great service! I've been looking for a new auto shop since the dealership I went to has sky high prices. Found Elliot Auto was a small, welcoming, and recommended biz. Getting an appt was easy, I called in & they gathered my info to send me a quote. I got a quote via text that I accepted to set the appt. There's no waiting room, so you do have to drop off the car & head elsewhere to wait. I had a scheduled maintenance done, and it was ready before the end of day. I love my Toyota Camry, which is why it distressed me when I saw the TPMS light come on a few weeks ago. I reset it a few times to no avail: I just couldn't get the tire pressures to show up in the display. I was curious if my RepairPal coverage I had from CarMax would help in this circumstance and it turned out the answer was "yes", and Elliott Automotive looked like the most promising place on their list of approved repair shops. I definitely made the right call there! As soon as I made an appointment with the shop on RepairPal (no seriously, like within 10 seconds of it), I got a call from Jay, the shop owner and all-around cool dude. We talked about the issue a bit and he said I could bring it by right away, which I did. He hopped in my car just to take it for a spin and make sure everything else was working fine, and he quickly deduced it was the individual tire sensors that were the most likely culprits, and said he would call to schedule the replacement when the ones he ordered came in. Sure enough, a few days later they arrived, we set up an appointment for me to drop it off, handed the keys to the extremely nice man in the office, and a few hours later I got my car back good as new with tire pressures displayed and (most importantly) no troubling dashboard lights! One of the most stressful business-related things of moving back to an area is finding an honest and reliable auto repair place, and I am psyched to have found these guys. I buy Camrys BECAUSE they are so reliable, but if/when it does have more issues, I will absolutely come back here to address them. Overall: 5.0 stars ---- Pros: - The folks here are just incredibly nice, knowledgeable, down-to-Earth people, especially the owner Jay. - I got my repair covered by RepairPal, but their prices seem very fair even without it. - They don't make you wait forever for an opening, scheduling spots are available and they will work to fit you in ASAP. Cons: - Their parking lot is quite small, but they manage to move things around in such a way to make it work. Friendly great service! I just moved to Richmond from Seattle and my Honda civic hybrid died unexpectedly. I was able to get my car started and went on yelp to find someplace to have the battery checked/replaced. I called here based on the great yelp reviews. Kit was super helpful on the phone and even squeezed me in first thing the next day to get my battery replaced. The fact that he did this for someone who had never been to his establishment really impressed me. After West Broad Honda somehow messed up my car doing an oil change and then charged me $182 when I brought it back they told me nothing was wrong with it Elliott Automotive took about 3 minutes to diagnose the problem. I have been going to Elliott's since I became a student at VCU. They have ALWAYS been kind, charismatic, respectful, and incredibly helpful when I've had issues with my car. The one account I want to talk about made me chuckle, but really shows the merits of the shop. It was around 90 degrees this one day and I was sweating in my car. I couldn't figure out what was wrong and called up the shop. Jay answered (one of the workers at Elliot's) and told me to bring my car in. I came by and we went out to my car for him to check it out. He then asked me if I had my AC on. I realized that I just didn't have the button pressed. I sadly fell into the stereotype of a young lady not understanding simple things about their car. But Jay never once made me feel stupid about it. We laughed about it but I didn't feel laughed at. He told me that I didn't need to pay for anything and just asked that I leave a nice review for the shop. I am so grateful to have found an auto shop that is so respectful and honest. Most shops I've gone to try and pull as much money as they can from me simply because I clearly don't know much about cars. But Elliot's is very honest and earnest with their work. What an amazing experience! Not only was the whole team phenomenal and got my car up and running in less than a day - Kit was able to arrange a tow so I didn't cause more damage to my already limping engine. Not only are they veteran-friendly they made it a priority to ask if I had appointments I needed transit to while my car was repaired. Do they offer a military discount? I'm willing to bet they do, but I forgot to ask because when Kit said instead of doing the $500+ procedure I'd requested - he thought it better that they go with the repair that would actually fix car for under $200. Thought I needed new brake pads, but they took a look and honestly told me that my pads were fine and that they wouldn't recommend it. Just moved to RVA and Elliott Automotive has been my first mechanic experience in Richmond since I was in art school at VCU. There are so many good things I can say... it's a busy, clean, well-organized shop with friendly, knowledgeable people in the front office. I couldn't ask for a better experience. And... my 4Runner's never driven better than it has since I picked it up. It needed some suspension and steering parts and received an alignment. The steering feels fantastic and handles more smoothly than ever. I take care of this vehicle... it's gone nearly 400,000 miles, and I've replaced and upgraded legitimately worn parts along the way, but this shop has it driving like a new car. Kit is a Toyota nerd and was just the guy I needed to talk to. The mechanic did a great job and I had my ride back on time and for a reasonable (not cheap, but entirely worth it) amount of money. Kit said he could get aftermarket parts faster and more expensive, but would rather wait for genuine Toyota parts. I agreed completely and the result speaks for itself. If you want your car repaired right, admittedly based on just one experience, I couldn't recommend Elliott Automotive more highly. read more

Elliott Automotive may have saved my daughter from a terrible accident today. My daughter lives elsewhere in Virginia but was in Richmond at a Dr. appt. She noticed a thumping sound as she drove. Not being from Richmond, I did an online search and found Elliott Automotive was within a 10 min drive. Kip said send her to us, we will take a look. Once Kip looked at the vehicle he found one of the tires was so loose he could have used his hands to take off the lug nuts. He asked if we recently had service done, and I told him a dealership had rotated the tires just a week ago. Kip and the team there did a great job securing the tire and getting her back on the road. The guys at the shop were super friendly and even ordered 4 new tires and put them on the same day since they noticed mine needed to be replaced. For a small shop, they were also quite affordable. I've recommended these guys to all of my friends, because I trust them. I've seen them in the waiting room bring a box of car parts to explain what's happening in peoples' cars so the customers understand what's happening. I've been here twice, the second time for a strange noise that I couldn't really explain. The mechanic asked if I could drive him around the block so that he could hear it, and he asked me actually valid questions so he could do a better job at diagnosing and helping me solve my problem. Jay went above and beyond to solve our problem. We thought we had a small problem when we dropped our Subaru off, turned out we had a much larger transmission issue. When Jay called he asked if he could have the evening to do some research before he explained the entire problem and the needed repairs. He contacted us the next day to let us know that Subaru had extended the warranty on our transmission, our repair should be fully covered under the extended warranty. We would need to take the car up the road to the Subaru dealer for the transmission work under the extended warranty. The customer service, the honesty, so impressive! They replaced our worn tires and changed the oil, great price on those too! We took our car to the dealership and Jays diagnosis was absolutely correct, we were armed with a copy of the warranty he printed for us so everything went smoothly there too. I do not know much about cars, but I know a hell of a lot about customer service and these guys crush all the competition in the Richmond area. I live in East Richmond, and it is well worth the trip out to Glen Allen to have my car serviced with these guys. 1) The guys working the front desk are not only professional, but extremely friendly and actually genuinely care about your value as a customer and a person. They remember everyone's name by heart, and they remember details about your life. I have felt like a friend from the first moment I walked in...in fact, my friends aren't even this friendly with me. 2) Jay walked me through exactly what was wrong with my car and explained why it was a problem and needed to be fixed. He explained my options, the pros and cons, and told me exactly what needed to be done now and what could wait. This is essential to planning your life and invaluable to making a decision. 3) I was given WAY more information by these guys than any other mechanic that I have EVER been to. Honestly, none of what he told me was to his advantage, and in fact he discouraged me from getting some of the optional work done until further down the (figurative) road. I couldn't be any happier with my experience at Elliott Tire Auto Service. The entire staff, especially Kit and Kyle were a pleasure to do business with. Everyone there is super friendly and easy going. Most important, they are quick and extremely knowledgeable. Their prices are reasonable and I can personally vouch that they try their hardest to get you the best price possible. Keep in mind, they only use quality parts. So that is something to note when they give you a price on something. I also like that they're very courteous. I'm not sure if it's standard after spending a certain amount, but they do give you a complimentary car detail. Best of all, I had a small dent on the bottom of my bumper and they heated it up and popped it out without me even asking. Any business that goes above and beyond is always gonna be #1 in my book. So I just dropped my car off to get the tires and engine/cabin air filters replaced. I've never been here before and I won't get my car back for another few hours but i already know everything will be to my satisfaction based on how these guys have treated me so far. Kit is awesome and very knowledgeable. He took the time to walk me through some great tire options and answered all my questions. When i walked in today, Jay greeted me with a friendly smile and a manly handshake. I have him my first name and he knew exactly who i was and why i was there.
