I recently took my car to Dance Service center and had a great experience. I dropped my car off at 7:30am and my car inspection & oil change was done in less than an hour. My typical experience at other service centers is since I am a "drop off", my car is usually one of the last to get done. They also suggested some additional services I may need but were never pushy. They were honest that it would be costly but I could call back and schedule in sections. And that was the last they mentioned of it. My family has used Dance 's for decades. We always knew we could trust Hunter. This week , I left my car for inspection. When I picked up my car. the windshield was damaged. The mechanic supported me that the windshield was intact when I dropped the car off. The manager refused to accept responsibility or repair the windshield. The damage happened on their property while I had left it in their care for the day. This service station should not carry the " Dance" name ~ the treatment and service I received today was dismissive and irresponsible. Hunter Dance would NEVER treat his customers so rudely. I hate to not support Dance's , but it is not the same service station that Hunter ran with honesty and integrity. My family is sadly done with Dance's ~ we will never go back :( read more

Patronized Dance Service Center for over ten years while under the management of Hunter Dance. The lead mechanic, "Billy" has always been an exceptionally knowledgeable and skilled mechanic. Sadly, the passing of Hunter has affected the value and accuracy of recommendations made by the service advisor at the counter. He has repeatedly suggested "extra" services that he claims are necessary when they are certainly not... wheel alignment, filter changes, etc. I have taken my business elsewhere. read more

Decided to forego the free inspection at Brown's, the "value" of the Walmart oil change, and the drive-through car wash at Carpool, and settled for one-stop shopping at Dance's. First, and again, it's across the street from a GRTC bus stop for an express bus to downtown, so Win, right? Second, they call to let you know that your car passed inspection. They advised me that at 67K I was long due for the 60K maintenance (that I'd put off getting at the dealer because of the price tag and the wait at the suburban dealer shop) - because I trusted them I said go for it. The car wash was incredible - and I'll tell you why: when I go to Carpool, because it's assembly-line, they don't fully wipe down my car seats. Oh yeah, I also got the tire rotation. First, it's hard to find a mechanic that you can trust. But then to find one you can trust that will also fix my car, often times same day, plus giving me a good price and cleaning it too is a dream! I started using Dance primarily because they were convenient to me but after visiting them several times in the past 2 years because of my ailing 2005 Honda I am ever so thankful to have them in Richmond, VA. And because I don't live far, they are kind enough to give me rides if need be. Took my Jeep Wrangler into Dance Service Center after hearing a loud clunk. They diagnosed the issue as a broken bolt and repaired the problem. They also found a coolant leak they were able to fix during the visit. Thomas at the front desk was great at explaining everything to me along the way and called me so I may approve the repairs. I took my car in for an inspection about two weeks ago. Today I went to give someone a jumpstart and noticed my hood strut is missing. I had just changed my oil 3 weeks ago and the strut was there. I went back today and told them I was confused about missing strut and how it was there 3 weeks ago. The person goes back and talks to mechanic and a few minutes later the mechanic comes out with my missing strut, he said I took it off because it was broken, I asked why didn't you tell me, his response was you where in a hurry ( I wasn't in a hurry)so I didn't tell you. No apology given, What the heck this is a repair shop! I am glad I found out today so I can get it fixed. I'd go to Forest Hill Auto repair or Riverside Auto repair before I'd go back to Dances. read more

The most expensive place I have ever been. Having had oil changes, inspection etc done there before, I was surprised at the enormous fee my neighbor was charged. With that in mind, I went to get 2 simple services done. Imagine the surprise when, instead of 150., I was told it was 775. to have the total check done. I said, no thanks, and got by with 177. A 60,000 mile check can be done for less than 600. read more

It is a sad state of affairs that my experience even warrants two stars, but at least I got the service I wanted performed with no harm done to my car. This morning I dropped off my car at Dance for an oil change at the recommendation of a friend. When it was ready, they called on the phone and said the brake fluid and the coolant "look like they haven't been changed in a long time," and that one battery terminal was corroded. These extra services would bring the total bill to $250. It just so happened that I'd had a comprehensive service just 1,300 miles prior, which had included brake and coolant. (The oil was not included in the prior service because it was too soon for an oil change.) Upon paying for the service, the guy at the counter, the mechanic and I inspected under the hood. The fluids were practically potable--transparent and without sediment. (The battery terminal was indeed corroded--a problem that can be fixed with a minute or two of scrubbing.) The counter fellow said "yeah, I wouldn't get that done" in reference to changing the fluids. The mechanic had nothing but pathetic excuses--mainly that the filling caps were dirty. (Totally irrelevant.) I am inspired to perform more of these simple services myself... read more

After a handful of oil changes and regular service appointments here, I've found myself less and less enchanted by the service. The guy at the front counter has been less pleasant, the service less efficient and the sales/upsells significantly pushier in person and with follow up emails. I was recommended a service I am 100% positive I am unaware I did not need, and confirmed elsewhere after leaving. Dance installed two new aftermarket brake calipers on my car and one of them developed a significant brake fluid leak after only 10 months / ~4000 miles. They replaced the leaking caliper, within 3 hours, without charge, no questions asked. The defect was presumably from the remanufactured caliper, not from Dance's installation. Absolutely the most honest and trustworthy shop you will find anywhere. I've been taking my car here for years and I always receive great service. You can count on these guys not to sell you something you don't need. Their work is always impeccable. They are friendly and helpful. When my last car was on its last legs, they were up-front and told me that there wasn't much point it continuing to pour money into it - which would have made a lot more for them in the long run. Took my car back 3xs, didn't fulfilll the warranty, and got defensive. Just sold my car to the junk yard for $500. It only had 105,000 miles on it. - Save yourself $ and headaches - ANYONE is better than these clowns! read more

Wouldn't trust them as far as I could throw them. I don't know what happened to Hunter, but the current counter guy must have worked in a pushy tire store or something the way he is trying to generate revenue. First experience: wanted an oil change, urged to get all manner of work up to and including a transmission flush, all of which I declined. Wanted to do everything but change the upholstery. Against my better judgement, went back for a State inspection - just an inspection, although I was still asked if I wanted to do that extensive service they had planned for me, still on their computer. Car was rejected for dry rotted tires. Counter guy asked me how about an alignment for the four new tires he was sure he was going to sell me. Immediately got it back from their clutches with my new rejection sticker and took it to another shop who said the condition did not warrant the rejection and passed it. This is the kind of judgement I used to rely on Dance's shop for - now, forget it. Hunter must have surrendered operations to the guy in there now, but I have to wonder if he is aware of what is going on. Used to be a good, dependable neighborhood shop. Now unneeded and unwanted service is pushed and I can't imagine how many older folks from Hathaway Towers, for example, are being taken for a ride and a Dance. read more

A coworker suggested this place after hearing me complain one too many times about how badly woman are treated at repair shops. I'm usually treated like some brainless airhead who only knows how to drive a car. These folks were courteous over the phone, very helpful even alerting me to a special on tires I wouldn't have known about otherwise. When I arrived at shop I was greated, info taken and my suv was being serviced in 15 minutes and I was done in 1 hour. I bought a set of 85,000 mile tires for under $500. I went to these guys for years for all of my vehicle needs - but they've lost my trust. I kept going because of convenience and proximity to home- but in retrospect I should have realized that I was getting continuously upsold at pretty expensive rates. Not a single drop off for oil and inspection ever resulted in that being the end of it - there was always something more they would find and pressure me into accepting. They recently lost my trust by inspecting my truck - requiring new tires to pass. Fair enough - but when I drove the truck later it had a shimmy that wasn't previously there. I asked them to look at it again - they informed me that the brakes and rotors were shot.... Uhmmmm.... how did you pass it for inspection then? And how did you not notice this when you had it on the lift and were replacing the tires???? Trust lost right there. It's a shame because of how convenient they were but as others have noted - they are pretty expensive and very good at finding more stuff that may or may not need to be done. read more

Just needed a simple oil change, which they did for more than I have ever paid. More than that, there is a younger guy with a bit of attitude. Instead of suggesting things I needed to get done, he was pushy with his suggestion. I had already done those things but with his personality I won't be going back. This is the real deal! Mechanics honest charming. They have never done anything but what was asked and come back with minimal recommendations. But here is who they are : my husband is a disabled veteran and can't drive anything more than a motor bike. They don't service them but said sure we will take a look. Dance Auto is only 1mile from me and we always support our local businesses.. But this one I just can't. This was my 3rd and final time to give them my business. This time we went in for an inspection. They said my headlight was to foggy, one of my license plate lights were out, I needed new front brakes and front rotors. They said it was $500 to do it all. I told them not to do anything and I will pick up the car and see what I could do on my own.. Like bulb and headlight. When I arrive to pickup key they asked why I didn't want the work done.. I said I want to see what I can do and get another quote. The lady then tells me that the rotors actually passed inspection!! If they passed why did they want me to pay $200 to get then done! I left.. Got everything fixed for $100. Brought it back to get inspected and they said we could pickup the car at 3pm. Great! At 3pm we wake up our 1yr old.. Drive to Dance Auto and yep.. NOT DONE! I really want to like this place I just can't. I support our local businesses.. But this one I just can't. They are a waist of time and money. read more

She had been taken advantage of by another car repair job and I am happy to say it didn't happen again.
