I stayed hear for street vibrations. It was a nice hotel for what i payed. Got it off a discount web site. Didn't have any hidden charges for me. I called the hotel with my confirmation number and they emailed me one from the hotel with all the prices in stone. Had a clean room and decent size bathroom. New tv. The breakfast was waffles , english, muffin, or cereal. But with the money i saved from booking there my wife and i went to breakfast across the street every morning at the casino. The place was a little out dated but clean and the staff was friendly. The front desk guy even gave me a razor because i forgot mine. Its not the Ritz but for the price ill be staying hear next year for bike rally. read more

This hotel is a little bit older but recent updates have been made and it's quite nice. The downtown location was great. By far the best price in Carson City but with customer service matching a 5 star resort. Janet was amazing and helped book a block of rooms for our soccer team. I stayed here for my anniversary in their Jacuzzi Suite. I had a wonderful stay. Most hotels do not have microwaves or a stove and this suite spoiled us. We had our bottle of wine chilling and brought back our restaurant leftovers and had all the comforts of home. We were walking distance from restaurants and a nearby casino and enjoyed our time there. Everyone was courteous and helpful. Because they are dog-friendly, we may bring our little furry family member with us this next time. The pricing was very affordable and the hotel room was very clean. My name is Paul M. and I am a middle school teacher at a private school in Las Vegas. Each year we bring our seventh grade class to Carson City for their field trip. I have been on this field trip for the past 4 years, and I always look forward to our stay at the Plaza Hotel. The staff is exceptionally pleasant and helpful. Our rooms are always waiting for us when we arrive and the check-in procedure is very simple with all rooms keys in small envelopes labeled for easy distribution. The hotel is neat and clean and very centrally located. I really appreciate the inside hallway close to the desk. The only drawback that see each year is the fact that the hotel is dated, but as I tell the parents at parent meetings, it just adds to the atmosphere of Carson City. If I can give this place negative stars I would dirty dirty hotel my son walking around on the carpet just for 10 minutes his feet were already black. We stayed a total of two nights my husband woke up with some bites the morning after our first night. We figured hey it might be normal maybe he ate something bad but no the bites had only gotten worse and many many more showed up I didn't notice how many there really was until we had got home but by then of course it was too late we took some disgusting hitch hikers home. We arrived at home on Monday afternoon I gave my son a bath and discovered he had bites all over him too and soon after had broke out in a rash all over (allergic reaction from the bites) we went to our family doctor to ask what she thought it would be and she said of course in her opinion that we had got bit by bed bugs and paid over 100$ in copay's and medication to treat the bites this was Tuesday i had called Wednesday and left a message for the manager to give me a call regarding this HEALTH ISSUE but no call on Wednesday, I tried again Thursday twice I left messages for the manager Launa. A staff member told me her shift started at 11 am and to give her some time to give me a call back it was 3 o clock and STILL NO CALL BACK then I called again and finally got ahold of her. And was automatically rude and you can tell she was reading off of some issued card . She asked why we didn't say anything at the time of check out? I don't know maybe because we didn't know what it was until we got home.she said how did we know they were bites and I had said she wanted paperwork indicating that it was bed bug bites but that would require a biopsy of of our bites and extra lab work totaling over 250$ that I won't get back from them.. THEN she had the nerve to say well WHAT Would you like me to do about it. Hmm maybe do your job? Stayed here for a short time after moving up to Carson as I looked for an apartment. This place is run by rude staff and the rooms are dirty. Made up of three old run-down motels and three newer buildings. They say they have a pool but it's actually part of a third motel on the next block that has been converted to business fronts. Because I was staying for an extended stay, I was relegated to one of the old motel buildings even though I still paid the full daily room rate. My bathroom had rotting chaulking and carpet seriously needed shampooing. During my stay a number of things went wrong: * Their wi-fi is hit and miss. I was constantly told the problem was my fault because I was using a Mac and not a PC. Turned out nodes in the roofs of the builds tend to over heat during the summer. Then the night shift guy told me they actually keep a log of all websites visited and emails sent and received. Shouldn't this be illegal? * The continental breakfast may only be eaten in the room it's served. You aren't allowed to take anything back to your room. * The cleaning staff are rude and don't respect guests' privacy. Though I'd have a DND sign on my door when showering, I'd walk out of the bathroom to find housekeeping in the room. Another time I was taking a rest and left the drapes open with the DND and rolled over to find a housekeeper's face up against my window peering in at me. * Very often I would see people come and stay only a few hours and they weren't travelers. * There was a sign in the front lobby window I asked about and was told it was to let guests know that this was a "Christian business". I asked the manager if maybe non-Christians might take offense and he said "If they don't like it, they can go stay somewhere else." Consider yourself warned. read more

This is an old hotel. Everything works, but the owners apparently do not care to spend money on upgrading the decor or equipment, and the room prices reflect that. Clerks at the front desk are usually friendly and helpful when you check in. The rooms are clean and reasonably large, and the suites are spacious little apartments. The lighting is a bit sparse, but not as poor as at a couple of "premium" hotels in the area. Standard rooms have a microwave and refrigerator in them; suites have kitchenettes. The beds are firm; I find them reasonably comfortable. There is a bare minimum of (cheap quality) towels, blankets, and pillows in the rooms, and requests for extras are usually pointless because the hotel runs out. Heat and air conditioning are managed through on/off wall units, not thermostats, and require occasional adjustments to keep the temperature in the room at a reasonable level. Hot water can run out in the evenings and mornings if the hotel is heavily booked when you stay there, but is usually quite reliable. WiFi connectivity is spotty; if WiFi is important to you, be sure to tell the front desk and they will try to give you a room with reliable reception. Be warned that the Internet firewall, in addition to porn sites, blocks a number of useful web sites. If any of them are important to you, ask and the hotel will unblock them. *If* the room has reliable WiFi reception, you may find (as I did) that internet connectivity is quite fast, better than at many hotels. The pool is shared with the motel next door, which is inconvenient. There is a laundry room in building 3 that is heavily used and runs constantly; avoid accepting a room near it if you can. Otherwise, the hotel has been quiet when I've stayed at it. I travel on business, and had no trouble either working in my room during the day or sleeping at night. To summarize, this is not a premium hotel, and if you expect that, you will be disappointed. It offers decent value, however, and helpful staff. I've stayed at a number of hotels in Carson City, and you can easily pay more for less than you do here. read more

We stayed at this hotel because my sister had a birthday party here. First of all I would like to say that it was clean and conveniently located near a casino for late night fun. I was however very disappointed in the staff, I overheard the staff complain about our party and make rude comments about some of the guests. Also, connecting to the "free" wife was nearly IMPOSSIBLE. It took me over an hour to secure a connection. When I called the front desk to ask for help I was told "You are the third problem this morning." I replied "Really? I didn't realize I was a problem, I just woke up." - Also the breakfast was AWFUL. The only decent thing to eat was a boiled egg and perhaps the pre-packaged oatmeal. The waffles were hard and there was no ice for the orange juice. We have stayed here a couple of times in the past. So we decided to come back and stay again since it is not that far from Reno and Hot August Nights. When I heard we werent going to be in the front building I was kindof worried because I read some past reviews and I recall the last time we came it was a little rowdy back there. What a pleasant surprise. It was really quiet. We had a really great bunch staying at the hotel this time. Really enjoyed our stay. This hotel is one of those you get what you pay for kinda places. The front desk staff was able to fix my reservation error from booking.com (don't ever use them) so that was cool. However, the staff was rude after we checked in. The ice machine by our building was broken so we decided to load up an igloo, an older gentleman whom worked there walks by and says "you're not going to empty the machine are you?" And gave us a look. Then another female employee smirkingly said "there's ice at am/pm" as she walked out the front door. Isn't the ice free as we are paying customers?!! The front desk was unwilling to give us extra towels after we settled in. The rooms where a disappointment. One of the microwaves didn't have the dish in it so it was difficult to heat things up. The other room we had smelled funny, like there was dust all over the place. The carpets were filthy in all the rooms. They turned my feet black after I got out of the shower! The pillows were flimsy and thin on stuffing. Beds were not that comfortable. The cleaning staff failed to replace towels that they removed with new ones so we didn't have enough the second night. The free breakfast was a big disappointment, they could not keep up with the volume of people coming in to eat. All the toasters did not function properly, you had to hold the lever down to heat up an English muffin. The man that was cooking waffles was sweating all over them because he couldn't keep up with the demand, disgusting!! If you can avoid this place do it!! BED BUGS!!!! Yep, my worst nightmare come true when staying in a low budget hotel. Do NOT stay here, you will regret it! I stayed here for the Thanksgiving holiday, only because they allow pets. When taking a shower on my first morning there, I saw a little bug on the shower curtain so I took a photo because I wondered (given where I was staying) if it was a bed bug. after my shower I checked the beds but saw nothing so I dismissed it and went to my cousins for some turkey. In the following days red bumps started appearing on my body (in places that are exposed when you sleep) first a couple little ones on my neck, then a couple on my wrist. They were not bothering me and let's face it little bumps show up sometimes, so no big deal. By the second day after i got home the numbers were increasing and the itching was getting pretty bad. On day three at home, I counted 41 bites. I looked up bed bugs and compared my photo from the hotel shower curtain... same bug!! And I brought some home with me!!! It took a day and a half to clean and wash everything, plus it cost me $150 for mattress and pillow bags and meds for my skin!! I contacted the hotel but the assistant manager laughed at me and questioned if I was "harassing" them. The manager and owner did not even bother to contact me after I called and emailed them pictures of the bug and my bites!! WOW! Right? If you have had a bed bug experience at this hotel please comment to this post and I will write to you, I am thinking about suing them so they can't do this to others!! read more

Great room (King non-smoking) with all the facilities well integrated together that you expect from the best 3 - 4 star rated properties, but seldom get. The Plaza delivers. The staff are incredibly helpful (James particularly) giving great attention to all guests needs. We came expecting to stay no more than a day. In the first 2 hours, we thought we'd made a mistake; but after a day, we realised we'd well and truely 'lucked in', not out! The Plaza and Carson City are the ideal place to stay to enjoy the delights of the region - Tahoe, Virginia City, Genoa and Reno. This town is doing it tough, and its people try to make every visitor and their money feel valued, going out of their way to ensure the best of all experiences. For we Australian visitors to the US, your economic hard times are making holidaying in your wonderful country an incredibly enjoyable and inexpensive experience. With properties like this in your extraordinarily beautiful country, which I'm happy to say we encounter frequently with the help of the AAA book, Booking.com and Yelp, holidaying at home in Australia just doesn't measure up. read more

I booked the room through Booking.com (great experience). The hotel advertised pet friendly, in my booking I stated we had a dog. When I arrived at the hotel I was asked if anyone had called me about the $25.00 pet fee...I said no, as they had not. Did they waive the pet fee?!? No!! The room they put us in still had sticky crud on the table & pet hair on the carpet from the previous occupants (yuk). If you are going to charge $25.00, the least you could do is use it to pay to clean the room! The continental breakfast had one choice of juice, watered down orange juice & no pastries. Over the years my wife and I have spent a night or two at this hotel. Motel would be a better word. Although, the motels we have stayed in were much better. We asked for a queen bed because a king bed there is far and few in between. We ended up in a room for disabled. Bathroom full of hand rails. Don't know how that happened. All the front desk could tell me was that most of their rooms have two beds and if you want one bed, you get what you get. No towel racks in the bathroom. WTF? Exposed plumbing everywhere. Great value for the money-! A bit dated, still clean with good staff service. YES the internet does not cover all of the rooms, I just take my laptop to an area where there is service. Stayed at the Carson Plaza Hotel while on a Motorcycle road trip. There were 3 of us and the reservations were placed that day. The staff was great: friendly and very helpful. We were able to park our motorcycles where we could see them. We were within walking distance to restaurants and the state capital building and park. The rooms were comfortable and clean. My only negative was that the laundry facilities were in another building but that was a minor negative. On a VERY positive note: I had placed some "emergency cash" into a ziplock bag. While sorting clothes for washing, the money fell behind the bed. I had no idea I lost it until Launa, the operations manager, tracked me down. Erica, the head of housekeeping, had turned the money in. I am thankful and impressed at the honesty involved. Would stay here again. read more

We had the WORST experience OF OUR LIVES in this hotel: we were treated as liars and when we went to look for our breakfast, they told us that most of the products had been finished, "because they had many guests that night"... What kind of excuse is that???? The situation was like this: we rented by booking two rooms, one for us and the other for a couple of friends. When we got there we noticed that the room was actually for 4 (the page doesn't said that) and we wanted to return 1 of them, which we never entered. We went to the reception and they told us that we would have to talk to Booking, so we LEFT THE KEY to that second room with the lady at the entrance as a guarantee that we would not use it and we went to sleep to our room. The next day, we made the call to Booking, which agreed with what we told them, but contacted the hotel to check that the room had not been used and in this moment the hotel claimed to HAVE PHOTO PROOFS that we had slept in the second room. How can you have those tests, when we never enter that room? We had never been called liars in a hotel ... and less so blatantly. We demand a refund of our money... but with a hotel like this, that will be to much to ask for! Very bad customer service from their senior positions!!!!! I have been taking youth soccer teams to Carson City for the last 10 years to compete in an April tournament, the Comstock Shootout, and for the last 8 or 9 have had my team stay at the Plaza. A big factor is the attention Janet in group reservations always gives to our team reservation--she's been fantastic. She's very easy to deal with, reminds me when I or my parents need to do something, and does whatever she can to keep our families in the same part of the hotel. Another big factor is the rate. Some of my families can afford to pay more, but some families struggle to pay all the expenses of a season, so it is great to always receive a low nightly rate that makes the hotel a good value in comparison to other local hotels. I also appreciate that breakfast is included and served in a large room that accommodates multiple teams. Finally, I appreciate that the Plaza is not a casino hotel filled with smoke, big positives when you're in charge of a bunch of kids. If you are looking for a clean, family-oriented hotel with friendly staff and value for your money, the Plaza is it. Btw, from the Plaza you can walk one block to Red's, one of Carson City's best restaurants. read more

We have been staying at the Plaza Hotel since they opened, we were one of the first guests! We stayed in a king suite March 1 and it was horrible, never plan to stay there again. The carpet was frayed and filthy, the furniture was dirty. Towels are so small and thin, waste of time. Shower curtain too small and hard to close, the tub was slippery with no mat or anything to help. Bedroom light bulb was burned out, the toilet ran constantly unless you flipped the handle - very annoying in the middle of the night. Our TV didn't work, maintenance guy came to fix it and he was very rude. I could go on but I think you get the idea. read more

A very friendly family orintated reasonably priced hotel in the center part of the city. Very clean and comfortable. The free extended continetial breakfast ( more than just coffee and danish) included waffles, yogart, and cereal the kids enjoyed. WARNING, WARNING... I have had to stay in 1 star motels that are nicer and cleaner then this 3 star hotel!! Did not receive confirmation email. After checking in, we went to our room and found that it had never been cleaned from the previous occupants. We then asked to get another room. The rooms need a major revamp! The sheets are old, dingy and have holes in them. The blankets are scratchy and look like they have never been washed ( I do not like sleeping with other people's hair all over me)! The bathroom is very outdated! When showering you had the feeling of falling through the floor, and they could use a deep cleaning. The wifi is very slow. The one thing that I did like was the little kitchenette. To the owners- I am sure you would not stay in a place like this! So either put some money back into it or shut your roach motel down. read more

Stayed here Valentine's Day weekend. Treated myself to a suite. Because I enjoy a stove with no cooking instruments, a living room with a couch big enough for me and at least 7 other people on ( I am little),a bathroom barely big enough for me,and a bed for me and those 7 other people. But that's almost too strange.... The suites are in the back of the while dated, huge property centrally located next to a casino, restaurants and within walking distance to a few other places. The rooms are probably some of the cleanest Carson has to offer. But the room deodorizer is still wreaking havoc on my sinuses almost through day 2 of my 2 day stay. The front desk staff is polite and helpful. Just don't ask for directions to the nearest grocery store. She said half a mile. But it was more like 1.5. I missed/skipped breakfast because people don't wash their hands often enough for me to share food with them without wondering what is growing in the eggs and toast. The pictures look like they do a good job. I would probably skip the room upgrade again, but I will probably be back to stay. After all they already know me. The vending machine gave me a Snickers that said "Hot Mess". read more

Stayed here for the first time, but not the last. The staff are extremely pleasant and down right nice. I felt safe here. The room was very spacious. While the decor was outdated, I'm not staying at a hotel for the decor. The room was clean, that's most important to me. The free breakfast was ok. There is an attendant who makes the waffles for you and other items are out. I have to say the waffle batter used is really void of flavor. They need to add some vanilla, or something! If it wasn't for the butter, it would have had zero taste. Overall, I would recommend this hotel to friends looking for an inexpensive place to stay. read more

Good location, decent parking, semi-friendly staff, small bathrooms and ants. I found ants crawling around in the bathroom and on the nightstand. At first, the room appears clean and well kept despite the outdated decor, however upon closer look I found the little black creatures crawling all over the place. Fortunately for me I had originally planned a camping trip over by South Lake Tahoe so having ants crawling around near me felt almost just the same, just minus lake and you know, nature. Would I stay here again? probably not, and to be honest, if I had found the ants earlier on in my stay than I probably wouldn't have spent the night here to begin with. But the somewhat seedy looking lots next door, grim 1960s style hallways and really dated decor make it feel a bit too inner-city in a not very flattering way.
