Bedbug we found after laying in bed
    Delaney N.

We were desperate for a hotel so we went here and ended up leaving an hour after we got there because there were bedbugs. The only positive I can say is they were very forthcoming with the refund.

I am writing this in order to address a completely atrocious experience we had while staying at the Rodeway Inn at Nevada State Capitol in Carson City, Nevada. The dates of our stay were June 18-20th. I'd like to preface this by saying that we went into this not expecting luxury. I am well aware that this is a budget hotel. However, what we experienced last weekend is absolutely unacceptable and a complete disgrace to the Choice Hotels brand. On Friday while we were making the 7 hour drive up to Carson City from Las Vegas, I received a phone call from the hotel office. It was only 6:30pm but the gentleman on the phone wanted to confirm that we were still going to use our reservation. When I confirmed that we were on our way and close his exact words were "Well we are really busy tonight so I will give you 30 minutes before I cancel the reservation and give it to someone else". This is definitely not what the reservation said when I booked several weeks in advance. We have arrived much later to check in at other hotels and never had an issue. Thankfully we arrived before the reservation was cancelled. When I expressed that I was not happy being threatened and that he was violating Choice Hotel policy, he then told me that if I wanted to complain that he would just cancel the reservation now. I asked to speak to a manager but there was not one on site. He said he would call him but he was following instructions and that the manager would just cancel my reservation. If there had been anywhere else to stay in the area that evening, I would have. I have never received such atrocious customer service. This man literally threatened to keep my family from staying at the hotel if I complained at all because again, they were "really busy and could find someone else to take the room". His excuse was that my card didn't work even though this reservation was "Pay at check-in" and he refused to take a card over the phone. Upon entering the room, we were met with the smell of cigarette smoke and general dirtiness. I had to leave the door and window open to air out while my husband ran to the store to buy air fresheners. If that was not enough, we found a cockroach on one of the pillows, and bugs in the beds. All of us slept on top of the covers. The bathroom, which only had a half roll of toilet paper, was disgusting. I have seen truck stop bathrooms with cleaner toilets. On the second day, our bathroom was infested with ants. We did mention this to the front desk (this gentleman was much more friendly than the first) but were told that there was not much they could do. After returning home, I have discovered bites on my children and myself. The parking lot and outdoor areas were also extremely dirty and covered in trash. Saturday morning when we were leaving for the day, there were homeless people sleeping in front of rooms on the lower level. Which probably contributes to the general filth of the area. None of the employees seemed to care that this was happening. I am not typically one to complain and have had wonderful experiences with Choice Hotels in the past. This particular experience was not only a customer service nightmare, it was also not on the up and up for health and safety either. I was hoping to speak to the office at checkout, once the threat of cancellation was no longer an issue. However, there was nobody at the office when we left. The experience was so far beyond what is acceptable that I still cannot believe it. I will NEVER stay at this hotel again and am rethinking using Choice Hotels at all if this is acceptable to your corporation.

BED BUGS. Scheduled this stay online thinking it was a great find - WRONG! I always inspect my hotel rooms because I'm a clean freak. The lobby smells like someone smokes in there, the room smelled like chemicals/smoke, AND I found bed bugs! I didn't even get all my stuff in the room before I saw this. (THANK GOD) Asked for a refund and went elsewhere. There's also cigarette burns on the "comforter". DISGUSTING. Go elsewhere. Not worth the time or money.

Sheets had cigarette holes. Bathtub was gross Toilet was missing screws this is the worst hotel!
    Kim A.

I wish you could give minus stars- this place needs to be gutted. Pool was milky color- room smelled- sheets had cigarette holes in them- bathroom was something you would see in a horror movie. We booked this cause it was one of Choice Hotels Don't know how this hotel ever got on their list to recommend but I am calling choice to let them know. Ended up getting our money back and left. Looks like this hotel is one that rents by the hour. Drive right past this place--- Minus 100 's. GROSS PLACE!!!

    Dude! Please explain lol
    Rosalie O.

Yo, this place is crazy! Seems like I'm in a Robert Rodriguez film lol the room is an absolute disaster lol! Stains, smells like ashtray and odd paint/dirty carpet smell. The air system is busted, had to guess where to turn the dial for cool or heat lol Missing tile, odd carpet stains, possibly a murder scene lol who knows! This place really needs help! Don't know what the owners are doing with their funds from this place because I can tell you it ain't going to the infrastructure! Cigarette burns in the linen lol even though it says no smoking lol! I can't stop laughing! I was on budget and just needed a place to rest for the night, so I went here not teeing reviews hahaha it's such a gamble... Yet it kinda feels humbling in a very, very strange way! (Forgot to mention one more thing..ANTS! Don't know how they got in but there was a mega amount of them all over the desk with the tv. I'm so glad they didn't get to our snacks!)

Motel no stay ! Carson City
    Bruce B.

Here is a spot that in 4 years has been let go. Dirty, run down with torn carpet and stinky this is a no stay ! Drive anywhere else and maybe spend less. I tried to tell the Owner that all the reviews were bad, everywhere. She said that people only write bad reviews. She still did not understand that people write what they see to help people find a nice place to stay or eat. I told her out of 600 reviews I have 26 one star reviews. She still gave me a blank stare like deer in the headlights, I followed up with a call to Choice, they were appalled.

A dead moth in the room
    Malik C.

First time at the roadway inn and i must say that iam very disturbed and disgusted by the filth of the motel. First we find a bed bug in our room. Then to top it off the new room they give us has a dead moth in the room. Clearly they do not take care and time to clean their rooms properly. I will be staying in Reno or Tahoe next time we come to visit my mother. To top it off the swimming pool wasn't even filled or clean smh

We were greeted by a young man at the lobby who checked us in promptly. We went to our rooms and like some of us, first thing we wanted to check was the condition of the room. It gives off simple charm but we peeled back the layers of the bedding and were instantly met with disgust. There was a sheet that had dried blood on it and there was no mistaking what it was. There were other stains on each sheet as well as the comforter. We checked out the second bed, and while it wasn't as bad, it still had random stains all over the sheets. We had friends that took the room next to us and upon informing them of what we found, they looked at their bed and had similar experiences. The floors also were in desperate need of replacement as they have dark stains all over. I can understand that hotels will have some stains from time to time, but it was a bit excessive. The hallways also are in very poor shape but they at least hung a sign saying that they were aware of the carpet and were in the process of replacement. I guess I don't know exactly how long those signs have been present but I guess they don't need to be in any rush as "there is a sign". We went down to the front desk and they young man did offer a new room or new bedding. We just took the fresh linens and changed the bed ourselves. Later on, we went to take a shower and couldn't help but notice that there were only two full towels even though we have two full queen size beds and 4 people, but I guess it's assumed that you only need one towel per adult? I'm not certain, but once again had to call the front desk and they said they would come up and provide additional towels. Sure enough, in 10 minutes there was a knock at the door and the young man was there with additional towels. I jokingly looked at him and said, "Are you the only one working here in the hotel tonight?" as he was the only one that helped us several times and he said, "basically yes I am the only one here and I get off at 10 where another person comes in to replace me". Mind you, he was young and I would guess about 22 years of age, but to be running the entire hotel on his own seemed just unfair. The best part of this experience is that on their sign outside of the Inn, they actually say "Impeccably clean rooms", which really couldn't be further from the truth. Sadly, you get what you pay for and these rooms were very affordable but I don't think anyone wants to lay their heads down on someone else's dried blood.

This has been a family owned Business since the very first day I walked through the door and this visit I finally met one of the brothers who owns the place, Tedsh. He has a twin brother Dominick. The owner informed me their cousin who use to run the front desk who was my absolute favorite, Gurnay is going to nursing school! I miss her so much! She and I had a special connection and she was always so welcoming and made my stay extra special. The brothers are trying to update the Hardman House and make it authentic and not a Holiday Inn! They want to keep the prices at good value for all travelers. They have started on the remodel which has begun from the top slowing working their way down. Every time I stay there, I see improvements, all new bedding, custom mattresses exclusively for the hotel, Egyptian linens same as the Landing at Tahoe. Brand new roof and internet upgrades for Wi-Fi and televisions. They're in the process of remodeling the 3rd floor which is my favorite rooms. This time I stayed in Room 217 and it was different than my usual room. It was nice and roomy with a view of the buildings next door and not too noisy. Yes, the place is a bit run down and they have signs saying pardon our carpets in the hallways which are super old and unpleasant to look at. I can't wait for the new carpets and drapes!!!! In with the new and out with the old! You will have the comfort of your bed which is a beautiful thing and you will be well rested. They do have wine and cookie hour in the evenings and a small continental breakfast. The breakfast could be more appealing, maybe supporting one of the local bakeries in town would be a nice touch and moving the breakfast choices back to the table instead of on the end of the countertop. I look forward to my next stay this summer, hopefully on the 3rd floor with a nice fresh look and feel. I do love that they have underground parking which is a plus! You need to be mindful of the removal of old toilets, beds, and microwaves as they make improvements to the property. They be gone soon enough.
