This is my happy place, especially after a hike in the gorge. I like the mineral bath soaks with the sauna afterwards. I have tried the hotel. The pool is fine but can't compete with mineral baths in my opinion. It's definitely rustic but clean and charming. First impressions are the lasting impressions and so far I am extremely disappointed. I paid for an early check-in. No one told me check-in started at 2 o'clock. I drove over three hours to get here and arrived at 1:30. I waited in the lobby without being acknowledged. I was the only one in there as the girl behind the desk stared at her computer. She finally acknowledged me; was rude and wouldn't even check to see if my room was ready. She repeated, rather annoyed, "Early check in starts at 2:00." I imagine it was the same girl who was very rude to me on the phone when I was trying to book a massage. I guess I should've listened to my gut at that time and stayed elsewhere. It's 2:00 and just now they are telling me they declined my payment for an early check-in and they will let me know when the room is ready, but I am sitting around waiting and I will never come back here again read more

Avoid this place. Dilapidated and infested with pests. Just spent the weekend with a major disgusting bug infestation in one of their suites. Bugs destroyed all of our food and were a constant source of annoyance all through our trip. My wife and I used to really enjoy this place and visit a couple times a year. This was one of our main places to relax and unwind with the incredibly unique mineral water and the multiple hot tubs in their big suites. I don't want to be a hater. Especially to a place that we've enjoyed in the past. But I am afraid we're no longer going to be visiting here after the nightmare experience we just had here. We just spent a lot of money for their biggest suite and another hotel room for our family to visit. Our suite was completely infested with disgusting bugs. Bugs were going up and down the walls. Bugs destroyed most of our food disgustingly infesting it within a hour of us leaving it on the kitchen table. We spent over a hour trying to clear the room and the walls of the bugs but they just kept re-appearing. When we told the lady at the front desk about this. She said it was to be expected... and that her kid once dropped a Popsicle three miles from there that attracted ants... ...Lady, I don't know what the hell you were talking about. But this trip cost over two thousands dollars. And when I'm trying to politely tell you that your biggest suite in your resort is infested with bugs crawling the walls with their infestation holes dotted throughout the wood in the kitchen, mainly so some Karen doesn't lose her mind on you in the future... and you blow me off with that malarkey... we're never coming back. My mother had the ADA room and the cover on her hot tub was broken which meant the people in the ADA room couldn't get the cover on or off the hot tub... When we checked in, a different lady at the front desk was cranky after dealing with complaints all day saying people either loved or hated this place. Well... we used to love it but it's really quite easy to hate it with how it's falling apart, dilapidated, infested with vermin and the staff has an "I hate life and I hate my job" type of attitude. Just a rather lousy experience which is a shame because my wife and I used to really love it here but I'm not going to spend this type of money to deal with bugs or poor attitudes. If I had spent half for this experience, I might have a different attitude but this was top dollar and Carson Resort was Vegas prices for a low end troubled Motel 6 with a hot tub. Also having that nightmare image in my mind of our food completely infested was not an experience I was hoping to have on my vacation. Baths are ridiculous! Husband had a great experience. As for me, never again, waist of money. First, I know she got me out before my session was over. My husband got to stay in longer than his session. We were going to meet at the end and go to the pool but now our times didn't line up. There is no way of communicating with one another. My bath kept draining and my husband is telling me he went from hot bath to cold plunge. I wasn't given that option or wasn't told. You barely have enough room to move around in, in the tub or the space given around the tub. Two totally different experiences and I feel like I got robbed out of $40 to sit in bath water for 15min. Hot tubs rooms! Private hot tub rooms! They make it very clear that their hot tub hotel rooms are filled with the mineral spa water, so I feel like it's worth the money to spring for one. If you're going with a group, the hot tubs are either 3 person or 4 person. The front desk folks are very nice and patient, as there's usually a line of people wanting to go to their main therapy pool (day usage), but like I said, why not just go for a hot tub room and have some privacy? Many of the hot tub rooms overlook the wooded area next to the property, so it's nice to hangout in the tub and look out at the view. read more

This review is for the Spa only. I have never stayed in the rooms or played golf. The spa is simple, no frills, but awesome. I come here at least once a year while visiting my family. My mom and I always do a tub soak, followed by a wrap and massage. It is the ideal combination of treatments. The soak is done in a claw foot tub filled with hot mineral springs water, with the temperature being control by you. It last 25 minutes, then followed up with a 25 minute wrap. The wrap involves you lay down on a padded lounge table that has a sheet on it underneath you. The attendant, then wraps the sheet as tightly around you as you'd like, tucking it in one the other side of your body. (I have progress from a medium tight to super tight wrap over the years.) Then they lay a thick blanket on top of you. Because you have just soaked in a hot tub, your body radiates heat into the wrap. It's like be swaddled. And for the perfect added extra, then lay a cold rag across your eyes. I fall asleep or almost fall asleep every time. I have been in Spas all over the country and some in other countries. I don't know any place else that you can get this exact experience. I look forward to it every time I travel to the Oregon/Washington area. If you are short on time or money, I'd still recommend the soak and wrap alone. PS The old St. Martin hotel, is the lobby area....it's pretty spooky. I've never seen a ghost there, but I'm betting they are there. read more

I came here to check out the hot springs pool only. It's a nice drive from PDX. You can choose a 1 or 2 hour pool pass. The pool itself is chlorinated, hot, and steamy. There is another smaller pool that allows you to cold plunge. The experience itself was good but I would say an hour is more than enough. There is a fire pit outside of the pool area to enjoy as well. I think it would be nice to stay at the report in a room and be able to the pool at your leisure. read more

So rude and terrible is the management, that instead of responding to my request for a refund, or responding to my bank's investigation regarding my chargeback request for the room, they ignored us for over 60 days. It took 60+ days to get my money back out of this vile hole of a place. So sad that they decided to use this place as a way to take advantage of folks. It used to be peaceful and relaxing. Amazing get away with my love. We hiked at Beacon Rock and came here to relax and recover. The resort was super cute and in an amazing and gorgeous location. And I don't what other reviews are talking about but the bed and pillows were the best I ever had at a hotel. The luxury robes to go to and from the pool house were a cherry on top. The pool house with the massive mineral water hot tub and smaller but very effective cold plunge was a girls dream. It was busy but all the people were really nice. Gave me one price when I made my reservation but charged me almost $60. More than they told me it would be. The pool is so over chlorinated you can hardly breathe. The only good thing was the room was nice and it was clean. If you go just know to really watch what they charge you as they will change it on you. And know how much chlorine they use. read more

I was contemplating whether I should give this place a lower score after a bad first impression. I had booked a room with the hot tub. When I checked in, they gave me a room and said it was ready. First issue, the key card wouldn't work. The guy working there opened it and went to help us get a key that worked. Then, when we went in, the room was NOT ready. We were not happy at this time, but we waited patiently for them to prepare the room. It was a good thing that we had arrived earlier than planned, because I wouldn't want to wait outside in the dark. They need a better process to figure out if the room is ready next time; hopefully, it was just a one-time mishap. Got in a better mood after using the hot tub. It was very nice and relaxing. I have had lovely experiences here but last weekend I went and according to one of the employees they had a group so someone dumped extra chlorine in and while I was there everyone was sneezing and coughing inciting myself. I had chemical burns in my throat and sinuses and ended up going to the doc gasping for air. I did call to report this to them but they were dismissive. In the desperate search for anything that will take the edge off the pain my wife has been dealing with for more than a month (due to a pinched nerve in her neck), we've visited several chiropractors, massage therapists, and urgent care centers; all have helped to some degree, but there still hasn't been a silver bullet to put an end to her suffering. However, after visiting an all natural, outdoor hot spring last week, and finding things much improved for a longer period of time, I decided to drive her out to Carson, which is much closer to home, to see if another soak session would help provide some much needed relief. I've heard about Carson Hot Spring most of my life, but I'd never been here before. Having experienced some truly magical hot springs in Japan (and now in Oregon as well!), I was skeptical that I would enjoy it here. I'm not particularly a fan of spas and resorts, and even less excited by hot springs that are housed within modern buildings, with the mineral water dredged up from the earth in pipes and pumped into a pool or tub: the experience is just not the same. But hey, we didn't come here for me, did we? $17 gets you one hour of soak time (plus a few minutes on either end for changing and showering) on the weekends; it's cheaper during the workweek ($12 instead). You're given a choice of the quiet, serene, gender-segregated bath house (sorry, couples!), which we did not use, or the more public, communal mineral spa in an adjacent building; my wife opted for the latter. Within, a larger pool bubbles and froths with a mixture of chlorine and mineral water, and is comfortably, almost exceptionally warm. Attached to it is a smaller tub filled with significantly more tepid water, for cooling down. Alternating between these two extremes provides the best bang for your buck, when it comes to muscle relaxation. Carson provides many other services across its campus: massages (including couples), bath and wrap, a somewhat Spartan communal game room, some snacks and beverages purchasable at the concierge desk. Hotel rooms are available, and plentiful, although the quality of said rooms was not observed during our single day trip visit. The hot springs, as a business entity, has existed here for over 130 years, and the original building, where hotel rooms and spa services are booked, looks the part, while the outlying buildings, where overnight visitors will find their rooms, are significantly more modern in comparison, although they still look dated. Sadly, all of the soaking pools are accessible only for guests 18 and older, meaning that I had to abstain from enjoying them (this time), as someone had to stay out to watch our newborn son. However, even if he hadn't been with us, 18 seems a bit extreme. Excluding young children (under 6, maybe?) seems reasonable, but anything higher than that, I just can't reckon a good reason why. Considering we took our two youngest boy (7 years, and 11 months, respectively) to Terwilliger Hot Springs last week, and they both had a total blast, it's even harder to fathom...and that place is clothing optional, and in the middle of the woods! Even with these complaints, Carson Hot Springs still offers a wonderful, rejuvenating experience, for a reasonable price, and is a fantastic little day trip from Vancouver or Portland. Whether an overnight stay is worth the price of admission, I couldn't tell you (yet), but as far as my wife is concerned, her long, luxurious soak did wonders for her pain management, at least in the short term. Whether that's due to the properties of the water, its temperature, the relaxing atmosphere, or all three, the result is the same: she felt much better afterward. The hotel room I was in is a bit outdated and had a musty smell . The door paint on outside was peeling and I was way down on the end where there were many stairs to climb but at the other end was a ramp so I had to walk all the way down to the other end because I have a bad foot and knee . The WiFi is not very good I had trouble keeping connected . You should get a better WiFi for your hotel. The heater in the room is so loud I had to keep it turn down very low when going to sleep for the night or else I would wake up every time it came on . I am a light sleeper so if you are not it may not bother you. My room had no ironing board I called the front desk to see if one was available unfortunately I was told sorry no we don't have one. The hot tub they have is amazing I have to admit it's so huge . A lot of people use it so had to find a time when not so many people were there . My room size was a nice size and the bed was very comfy. The scenery. Is very beautiful. And appreciate that the room has nice terry robes for your use while there . You do have to request a room refresher while you are there they don't go in automatically to clean . read more

We recently rented a room for a week, upon check-in, we were asked how often we wanted maid service. We requested every other day. Since we checked in on a Sunday, we expected maid service on Tuesday. However, late that day, when we asked the maid about it, she said we were not on the cleaning list. She kindly came in and cleaned the room anyway and told us someone would come by early Thursday morning since we would be gone early. Unfortunately, when we returned on Thursday, the room had not been cleaned. We called the hotel office, and they said they would check if it was possible to send someone to clean our room later. The communication and cleaning schedule did not meet our expectations during the stay. While the maid was friendly and helpful on Tuesday, the lack of follow-through on Thursday was disappointing. read more

This is the 2nd time we've stayed here and in the exact same room, H101. The heat of the tub was tepid at best. We spent the whole of the night boiling hot water on the stove utilizing additional pots of our own. We tried 3 different times to enjoy the tub, chalking it up to the fact maybe a lot of guests had just checked in but to no avail. The sinks, shower and tub all held the same tepid temperature. The jacuzzi had mildew and mold on it which is by the way apparently is the spring/mineral water. All else, is indeed city water as told to me by maintenance. When I called to speak with a representative of the resort in the morning , no one answered but I did receive a call back and was reassured maintenance would be assisting us. Brandon stated this was a city temperature ordinance. If so, then you should state your water temperatures prior to the arrival of your guests. We spent 330 plus about 20 in fees for this room. Brandon did somehow manage to fix the issue and we enjoyed the room for a total of two hours in the morning prior to check out and assured us he spoke to GM and we would be speaking with them. However, upon checking out, the also tepid front desk staff notified us the GM wasn't on the property. I would give Zero stars if it wasn't for Brandon. The morning staff was far below average. I am writing this as a multiple diamond member at Hilton, Multiple Gold member at Marriott, Gold Member of Delta and a person whose professional career is flying around the country measuring Temperature and Humidity in sterile and sub sterile environments. Trust me, the water was cold. I very rarely am so upset that I write a bad review and often go out of my way to acknowledge the hard work of staff, hotel and resorts as a whole. Even though I've been visiting Carson Hot Springs for over 30 years, the historic resort has been around a whole lot longer. In fact, the venue was established in 1892! Just across the river from Portland, and out east a bit, Carson Hot Springs is located in the deeply-wooded town of Carson, Washington. Keep your eyes peeled folks, this is the kind of place where you might see Bigfoot! The entire property exudes a sense of nostalgia and historic charm. Nothing here is state of the art, in fact, you'll find corrosion, rust and peeling paint in some of the overlooked corners of the resort. Let's just call it character because the price is right! If the owners upped the ante of poshness, you'd definitely spend a whole lot more to relax at the spa or stay overnight in their quaint accommodations. The only reason folks are drawn to this remote stretch of Hwy 14 is for the geothermal hot springs, well-known for its therapeutic properties. There are many snake oil-type stories of various maladies that have been cured by those soaking in the water at Carson, but all I know is I feel a whole lot better when I leave. It's been fascinating to watch the resort change over the years. The original buildings still exist, but new cabins and accommodations have been added to serve visitors as the resort's popularity surges. Antique clawfoot bathtubs add to the vintage charm, but a large swimming pool modernizes the space and allows for more relaxation opportunities. Check out the resort website for massage, soaking and wrap prices. They even have specials for folks wanting to visit early in the week. Not a bad spot for a soak. It is $17/hr on weekends, $12/hr on weekdays. There doesn't appear to be an extra charge for towels, but they ran out, so it's a good idea to bring your own. There is a large hot pool w/ jets, which I believe is 104 degrees. There's also a smaller cold plunge pool. There's bathrooms, a shower in the public area for rinsing (no soap provided), lockers, water fountains, and changing stalls. I personally would prefer the hot pool to be a degree or two cooler, and also would have liked it if the windows could open. It got a bit crowded in the second half of my time there. I was in the Carson area for a wedding this weekend and decided to take a little private time to enjoy the Hot Springs. My nephew and I decided to enjoy the hot spring soak and body wrap. It was a wonderful experience, however I heard from my nephew that the men's side had a cold plunge pool while the women's side does not have. Objective opinion about Carson Hot Springs Spa April 2025 Review of My Recent Trip Carson Hot Springs Spa 1. Pricing The cost was far too high for what was essentially a budget hotel. One of the most inconvenient aspects was the very steep staircase, which made it difficult--if not impossible--for elderly guests to manage. This is a serious accessibility issue that should be addressed. 2. Amenities Even the most basic amenities felt neglected. For example, the toilet paper was the absolute cheapest you can find on the market--thin, rough, and clearly chosen to cut costs rather than provide comfort. 3. Bedding The pillows and sheets were extremely uncomfortable, made of unbreathable material that caused sweating throughout the night. Rather than promoting rest, they added to the discomfort and disrupted sleep. 4. Room Layout The room had a tiny dining table with very limited space around it, making it difficult to sit and eat comfortably. It felt cramped and poorly planned, adding to the overall sense of inconvenience. 5. Air Conditioning The temperature regulator was not working correctly. It only adjusted the speed of airflow, but not the temperature. As a result, it was uncomfortably cold at night, which made it hard to sleep. 6. Staff The staff were unfriendly and unwelcoming, with no smiles or warmth during our interactions. The lack of hospitality really stood out and contributed to an overall negative experience. 7. Exterior and Outdoor Space The outside of the motel was simply a huge concrete parking lot with no real space to walk or enjoy nature. There were only two picnic tables for the entire campus, which felt very limiting and not conducive to relaxation or outdoor enjoyment. 8. Main Pool The main pool had very little of the relaxing, therapeutic feel you'd expect from mineral water. It was heavily oversaturated with chlorine, which stung your eyes and made it difficult to enjoy swimming. This was a major disappointment. 9. Individual Baths (Paid Service) We purchased a 25-minute session for the individual baths, but my wife was made to sit in an empty bathtub and wait for the water to fill, which reduced the actual bath time to just 15 minutes. Additionally, I am concerned about the hygiene practices--specifically, whether the water is changed between clients. I would recommend an official check of their antiseptic conditions. Overall Experience The overall experience was negative. Guests are being overcharged for services they simply don't receive. The young lady at the desk (I think her name was Jen) talked to me like she was scolding a 2 year old. After that it was hard to enjoy my soak as I was playing my conservation with her over and over in my head. This woman needs some customer service training or should not be dealing with the public! I'm 74 years old and this woman brought me right back to being scolded by my mother when I was just 2 years old! Shame on you Carson Hot Springs for allowing this behavior. Our stay went very well at the Carson Hot Springs and me and my mom really enjoyed our time here. I would say that the room was pretty well kept but they could've had a little more storage in the bathroom. The shared pool and cold plunge was a nice addition. The actual Hot Springs bathtubs were fun throwback, and it was extremely cozy and cute. We just used the baths and got a wrap, there's also a sauna in there as well. You have to plan for not having any food on site, we had to go get snacks from the town near us. But you do get 10% off at the golf course nearby, which was a fun treat. read more

The Desk staff here is horrible!!! We had a wedding to attend at 4:00, got the the hotel at 3:15 hoping to check in and get ready. Was told "check in is at 4, your room is not ready". Watched as they told 5 other people that. Went to the parking lot to wait and saw that they were only cleaning two rooms at the time. Finally at 3:45 they called and said our room was ready. And the other 5 people got rooms too. The front desk staff were rude and not accommodating at all, they told us we should have come a day early, and payed them even more money for a mediocre room. Needless to say we missed the wedding, but at least we made the reception. DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL!!! We will never be back!!!!!! read more

We stopped here to use the bath house on a Saturday morning. It was pretty quiet and empty when we started. We were hopping to get massages but they were booked. It's slightly creepy but I loved my soak and wrap experience. It was $35 for a 25 minute soak and a 25 minute wrap. The ladies giving massages were so loud and didn't shut their doors so we could hear everything while trying to relax during the wrap session. Other we had a pretty interesting and different experience and I can finally cross this Washington hot springs off the list. read more
