Stopped for coffee on a layover here, since we wanted to try something different besides a chain coffee shop. I was excited since there was matcha on the menu but it wasn't the best. Good flavor but it wasn't mixed properly so I could immediately see the matcha powder floating around as soon as I got the drink. My husband ordered the CCL (cold brew with coconut almond cream and vegan caramel) and it was a very different flavor. The cream was overpowering and didn't quite taste like strong coffee so if you're into creamy drinks this one is good for you. Service was great though and I'm glad to be able to support a local coffee roaster. read more

I was so happy to see a Cartel Coffee Lab at the Sky Harbor airport. After having my flight home delayed almost two hours, I had time to kill and was already a bit perturbed, but a stop here for a good drink helped a lot. When I'm in town for work, I frequent the Cartel Coffee Lab in Tempe, so this was a sight for sore eyes. There wasn't much of a line so I was able to grab one of the to-go turkey sandwiches in the case and order an iced Autumn Spiced Matcha with oat milk in no time. There are some pastries available as well as some of their regular food items here. My seasonal drink was terrific. The sandwich is not made there, just your basic turkey sandwich that you'll find at any of the airport kiosks, but that was my choice as I didn't want anything more. Now that I know Cartel is at this airport, I will definitely be back if I need a drink before departing. read more

This is my favorite thing about the Phoenix airport, hands down. Not only was I blown away by the presence of a local coffee company inside an international airport, but the coffee was actually good? And the customer service was fantastic? Cartel Coffee, single handedly kept me sane during my 11 hour delay stuck in 110 degree heat, on the 4th of July in Phoenix. Cartel means business when it comes to their coffee. You know when a cafe serves their regular espresso with seltzer shots that they're "the real deal." They also offer drips, pour over, chemex and traditional milk blend drinks like lattes, cortados, cappuccinos ,etc. I thought the One and One was interesting - it's one shot of espresso with milk and one without, with a side of seltzer water. So simple yet so boujee and enticing! I got a double shot with a splash of oat milk (yes, they carry oat milk here), and it came with a side of seltzer. I was half asleep and totally missed the counter when i went to set down my tray of drinks, dropping everything on the ground. The gal behind the counter calmly smiled brushing it off and handing me a towel as she finished her other orders. By the time I had wiped it up and brought the dishes back to her, she had already made me a new drink, no charge. I was shocked she wasn't charging me since it was totally my fault not theirs. She was very sweet and I really appreciated her patience and quality customer service. While the coffee drinks are marked at average market cost, the to-go meals and snacks are more geared towards airport pricing. They had many healthy options like salads, yogurt parfaits, and wraps, and then semi-fresh baked goods in the deli case by the register. I wouldn't recommend this spot for food if you're super hungry and looking to get the best bang for your buck. However, I would recommend it over all other options in the airport for your quality caffeine fix at a great cost. read more

Thank God the PHX airport has coffee options. Whenever my terminal is near Cartel, it's a must. They have all the good coffee choices from nitro brew to pour overs, so you are getting the full coffee experience and feel like you are at a coffee shop outside the airport. They have merch and small bites, and their service, despite being in a busy airport, is not compromise. And their employees don't act like the typical airport employee, they really do feel like they are running a coffee shop. Love it! read more

A bit pricey for add ons like sugar free syrup instead of agave, and oat milk as an alternative, however it is an airport. Additionally, the wait was a little but, however worth it! They have seating if you have a long layover, in addition to grabbing one "to go" quite easily. Overall, if flying through Phoenix, skip Starbucks and give Cartel a try! What a disappointing cup of drip coffee. For an 8oz cup at almost $4, you're expecting some pretty good coffee. I have had their coffee before and it's great. But if you're going to charge that much for plain black coffee, it has to be consistently high quality. Very pricey airport food and the person at the counter warned me that it would take 10 minutes for my breakfast burrito. The potato and chile burrito was delicious and worth the wait. The exterior was crisped on all sided and the tortilla layer was thin and crispy full of chiles, corn and potatoes. It came with 2 salsas that were also excellent. I love the fact that Cartel is local, but no matter how many times, locations, and different ways I order their coffee, it's always overly bitter and not at all enjoyable. Seriously though, Cartel's coffee is terrible. I've tried the nitro cold brew several times and it somehow manages to be both watered down and very bitter at the same time. I've also tried the canned cold brew, and while *slightly* better, it's not great. My latest attempt was with a $7.50 almond milk latte that I threw away after drinking a third of it. I simply couldn't stomach (literally) any more of the taste. There is, however, an upside to Cartel: they often have a pastry option that is both gluten free and vegan (although they place it right next to others with gluten, which defeats the purpose), and they have the BEST CBD sparkling water - Mad Tasty Unicorn Tears. I'll be back for those, but I'm seriously done trying the coffee. read more

Coffee tastes very bitter, no caramel flavor so we asked for vanilla instead, no traces of vanilla in my coffee whatsoever. Plus playing almost $15 for 2 "vanilla" lattes is STEEP! I actually had Cartel coffee before when I was exploring Phoenix on a free Saturday and tried it inadvertently at the Phoenix Public Market Cafe with an overgrown bowl of yogurt and granola (review: http://bit.ly/2E6LwKI). Obviously I remembered the rich taste enough to be mildly pleased to discover this kiosk among the Southwest gates in Terminal 4. Yes, I have been brainwashed to default to Starbucks whenever I'm in cities and especially in airports where I make a blind grasp at brand familiarity before I fly into the blue yonder. Upon quick perusal, I ordered a $5.75 Latte which contained a good boost of their espresso (photo: http://bit.ly/2rYZRUO). It definitely fulfilled the promise of the coffee I had before and then some. I finally made it back here a few years later, and the staff is still so awesome! They are super friendly and helpful. Although prices have increased (bags are $24 each), their coffee is still really smooth and clean. You also still receive a free cup of coffee with purchase- I will definitely be back! read more

I stopped for a caffeine fix during a layover for my next flight. I'm giving it 3 stars because it was good but I don't think the taste & size of the drink matched up to the price. I ordered a vanilla latte in the smaller sized cup and it was over $4.00! Honestly, that's to be expected from coffee shops but the cup was just so tiny! Flying out this AM and need my coffee. I strolled by the Starbucks and quickly decided that I didn't want to wait in that line. I looked on the directory and saw that there is a Cartel Coffee lab which made me happy because I really like the one downtown. The Terminal 4 location next to gate C11 is great. They have gluten free food options. And, they have almond milk. I ordered an almond milk latte. Their coffee is very smooth and I really like the almond milk that they use. They were also friendly and seem efficient. At one point the line got pretty long but they all stayed calm and quickly and efficiently got through the line. This location did not disappoint like so many airport locations of chains tend to do. read more

The chocolate sauce for the mocha latte is made locally from real cacao and it's only mildly sweet... unlike other places that use hersheys chocolate sauce full of horrible ingredients and ultra processed chocolate. This spot is at the very end of terminal C and I made the long trek from terminal A. It was absolutely worth it. Pricey but it's the airport so no complaints. read more

Items ordered: CCL (vegan iced caramel latte), oat milk latte, and a poblano & potato burrito (all plant based/ vegan without substitution). The CCL was sweet. The oat milk latte was good and balanced. Coffee seemed to all be brewed well and was dialed in. Both came to the counter in less than 2 minutes from ordering. The burrito was a little small and was mostly potato. They said that burritos take a bit longer (around 10 minutes). It came out around the five to ten minute mark. They also had oatmeal options for those in a hurry. Overall, a great place for food and coffee if you're a vegan at the PHX airport. read more

Was in line at Paradise (Panera) next door where I know I love their coffee, but the line was shorter at Cartel and they had a less commercial, more modern look. Ordering and paying was a breeze using their iPad kiosks. Unfortunately, service dragged on a bit long. I waited 10 minutes for a small latte and watched the line next door dwindle in the mean time. The drink was pretty but nothing special. The barista did craft a pretty little steamed milk heart. Overall I was unimpressed by the service. They weren't overtly rude, in fact, they were polite enough, but a coffee shouldn't take that long, especially with only a handful of patrons in line. read more

Hmm... I love the valley's other cartel locations and I'm not going to let this experience stop me from visiting, but I wasn't impressed. Staff were quick at taking orders - took a bit to get my drink, but there was hardly a line. I got a small dirty chai. I guess I had never had their dirty chai - I was surprised when I was told it was $5.50. What is this? Over priced crappy Starbucks?? I was even more surprised when I got the cup. It was smaller than the standard small cup. Lastly, if I'm gonna pay $5.50 + tip... I want my coffee to be damn good. The brew tasted burnt and that overpowered the chai.
