Jarod is so professional and asks so many questions to understand all your joint, muscle or tissue issues. He could not be more thorough. His method is very different than traditional physical therapists. His goal is to get you at 100% within a couple appointments. Unlike other therapists that have you come back for months to get better. Which makes me happy since I don't have to spend the time or money on countless appointments! And his method works. Now, I will say, that it is pretty painful. But oh my gosh, it is so worth it. And he is a good conversationalist and helps you almost forget about the pain. I met Jarod at a sporting event where he was offering free injury evaluations. I had pulled my hamstring muscle 2 months prior (trying to go too far in my splits- opps!) and it had never gotten better. I tried leaving it alone for a couple weeks, stretching it, heating pads, ice, etc and nothing worked. So when I saw Jarod, I thought "hey, what the hell. Might as well try this." He told me that within 5 minutes, he would be able to make about 50% of the pain go away. I was skeptical. But he was wrong- it was like 70% better! In 5 minutes! I was sold. I wanted to get to 100% so I booked an appointment with him. 2 appointments (plus those 5 minutes) later, my hamstring is 100% now. He even gave me a list of exercises and stretches to do at home. Jarod Carter, PT, DPT, MTC, CSCS I had been having pain in the upper part of my left foot for four months and after seeing two doctors I was merely told to take some Advil and stay off of my foot. As a stylist, it's very hard to stay off of your feet all day. After a great review I heard from a friend I went to go see Dr. Carter myself. He really spends time to get to know you, your life, how and when the pain started and where the pain is located. After fully examining my foot he began to work on my foot and within seven or so minutes (this is my best way to describe it) he had moved the bruised and painful area out of my foot. Literally, he massaged the ball of bruise out of the center and down and out of my foot. I have been pain free since after one session and I would love to give him more than five stars, but I can't. The amount of knowledge Dr. Carter has of the human body and all its inner workings is so extensive, but he remains the most humble and genuine doctor I have ever been to. Since he does not take insurance, Dr. Carter spends the entire hour with you discussing your problems and providing therapy. I've been seeing Ben Shook for a hamstring injury for the last month. This was my first experience with any sort of physical therapy and I didn't have high expectations since my injury had been getting progressively worse over the weeks prior to my first appointment, but the results have been amazing. After my first session with Ben, I gained back at least 20 degrees of flexibility in my hamstring, and a few appointments later, I have almost all if it back and zero pain. I honestly can't even remember what it felt like when I first started coming. Ben is awesome, and I'll be sad when I don't need to come see him anymore, but I will definitely know who to call next time I am injured. read more

I really think you deserve 10 stars!! Wow. There are not enough superlatives in the dictionary for me to describe what I think of Carter Physiotherapy. You are nothing short of awesome. I can't believe how long I struggled (pretty sure it was close to 3 years) to figure out what was wrong with my leg (and, gosh, how many awful drugs I took to help me live w the pain!) and then BOOM! Carter Physiotherapy almost magically heals me. I know I'm technically not healed. I love these guys! I'm a therapist and that job requires a lot of sitting which, if you read Jarod's article in Austin Fit, you know is never a good thing. After a really busy time I ended up with back, hip, knee and foot pain. Jarod and Ben got me functioning again and back to comfort. They have different but complimentary styles. I had been to several physical therapists, chiropractors, trainers, etc and just gave up. I was hitting my late 20's and was having so much back pain everyday. I was always the weakest link in any outdoor outing. Everyone gave me these quick fix solutions and didn't take the time to understand my problem. I can honestly say this was the very best experience I've had and I'm extremely grateful to have found them even though It took me a little convincing as they are out of network, The treatment plan has been cheaper than the in network groups as they are so hands on in a one on one environment, not like those other places that are partially supervised gyms with 5 minutes of professional consultation. They are super accommodating, and within just 1 session I was noticeably better. Jarod is a phenomenal PT. Over the past few years I have been subject to a series of injuries ranging from muscle strains and aches, to more complex structural and nerve problems in my spine that merit surgery. Ben has been my physical therapist for years. He had helped me over come various issues that have come up: bursitis, knee pain, back and neck pain following a car accident. He offers a seamless combination of evidence based practice and holistic treatment to result in outstanding outcomes. After one needling session I had increased my neck mobility by tenfold. I had a great experience at Carter PT. My shoulder pain was reduced by about 80% after the first visit. He gave me some easy exercises to do at home and in the gym. I was able to get back in the gym do the things I wanted without pain. I hope I don't have any more issues (knock on wood) but if I do I will definitely come back to see Dr. Carter. read more

Over the years, Jarod has successfully treated my girls and my husband. So when I decided to take up running (at the age of 52, crazy, right?), I knew I'd have some sort of pain and would probably be seeing Jarod. I was correct and Jarod treated me early into my new hobby and gave me lots of exercises that helped tremendously. I was feeling so great that I had another crazy idea...run my first marathon! I highly recommend Dr Carter to anyone I know who is experiencing muscle pain or injury. I've seen Dr Carter for injuries and pain associated with my TMJ issues, and he has been amazing. Once, right before I was supposed to go on an extended business trip, I sprained my ankle. I made an appointment hoping that he might be able to relieve some of the pain. I was surpised, however, that after one session he had completely restored the full range of motion on my sprained ankle and eliminated all of the stiffness and pain I had been experiencing from that sprain. I went to Dr. Carter because of sciatica. I'd already had treatment by another manual therapist, which definitely helped, but I just wasn't able to rid myself completely of nagging and occasionally painful effects. I should also add that I hadn't been able to run for nearly a year because it would always re-aggravate the sciatica, and plane rides or car rides caused pain. After several treatments I have ZERO sciatica pain. Not only that, but he helped correct a toe injury that has bothered me for many years. I should add that as a patient I had - and still have - responsibilities in the treatment. Nearly every day I do the stretches and exercises Jarod prescribed. After suffering from chronic, debilitating and excruciating pain from PLANTAR FACIITIS for almost a year, I had given up all hope of ever being able to walk without pain again. By a miracle I stumbled upon Carter Physiotherapy. They made some custom orthotics for me and I could walk pain-free within two days. And my pain was so bad that I had to use a cane or crutches to get around on some days. I even went to three podiatrists who all used very conservative treatment methods which didn't help me at all. If I could skip the doctor's visit and go straight to Jarod's office I would. (In Texas there's no "direct access" to PT. You have to get a prescription first.) Anyway, twice in the past 3 years, Jarod has quickly gotten to the heart of my pain and dysfunction. I went to him, first, for a hip labral tear in 2015 and again in 2017 for a meniscus tear. Both times, he did what the doctor had no time for: watched me move, asked me plenty of questions, listened to my answers patiently, then used his substantial manual therapy skills to identify areas of soft issue pain and muscular weakness.
