This is the first time I've ever written a review, which is terrible bc I use them for every new thing I try, but it really doesn't get better than Carter for blonde highlights and I think he deserves mention. I've lived in pretty much every major city on the East coast (Philly, New York, Boston and now Atlanta) and have paid upwards of $600(!!!!) for good color (that's how important it is to me) and, seriously, Carter's work trumps all the other blonde highlights I've EVER had!!! When I first moved to town a girl told me that I had to try him if I was looking for blonde highlights and so I did. The first time I called I was a little weary bc it didn't sound like the "posh" salon that I was accustomed to... had the same feeling when I first showed up to the salon...which is nice, don't get me wrong...just not what I was expecting for the "best blonde colorist in the world." However, none of that really matters when you leave the salon with natural looking, platinum blonde, perfectly placed highlights and with zero hard lines for around $150 (which I think includes my haircut). I have been going to Carter every 6 weeks for 1 1/2 years now and I have NEVER left with even a single problem....which I can't even say about my posh NY salon experiences. I should also mention, that he's always on time, very attentive and SUPER fast. I LOVE him and never want to leave him! If I ever move again, I will probably fly to see him...no joke! read more

I love this salon and everyone who works in it. Carter is absolutely the best, and fortunately happens to be extremely economical too. I have been to many high end salons in Atlanta trying to get my dark blonde /golden highlights right, and he is the ONLY one who succeeded! I am sure I could get a similar result for $200+ a pop (maybe), but Carter is a steal. and the great thing is, his staff is trained to give the same results! they are all talented, and it is a very open, conversational environment. they have all actually conferred over how to "correct" my color, which was off just enough to bug me, and come up with a perfect result that I am so happy with! I get blonde highlights with an extremely natural, blended look-- no stripes!!-- and a subsequently better grow-out period. not too red, not too ashy, not too blonde. These people actually listen and care. It is a snap to book an appointment through their website, which I LOVE! I can book in under a minute from my iPhone. their hair cuts are fantastic too, and they carry Moroccan Oil products (my fave). I can't say enough about how happy I am to have found this salon-- it is a gem. book an appointment and you won't be disappointed. i always tell carter he is hair genius, but Tammy and Gabriel are fantastic as well! I had the worst salon experience at Carter vu Salon. I went to the salon for a color correction. It was my first time ever visiting the salon. The receptionist was nice, but the stylist Carter who did my hair was very rude and unprofessional. When we sat down for my color consultation he was very short and seemed frustrated when I asked questions. he did not explain their processes or prices to me thoroughly. he seemed distracted and uninterested in doing a good job on my hair. I asked him for a trim since I am trying to grow my hair out and he didn't ask any other questions before cutting two to three inches off my hair and giving me weird layers. It looks like I have a mullet now. When he did my color, he got it all over my face, ears and neck. he did not clean the dye off my skin thoroughly and it stained the back collar of my shirt. Overall, I am not satisfied with my hair and displeased by the poor customer service at Carter vu. I will NOT be returning for their services in the future. If you want great color, cut AND CUSTOMER SERVICE DONT GO TO HERE, . For the money that I paid on my hair, it should have looked great and I should have been treated better. RIP OFF. read more

Very upset with a bait and switch that occurred at Carter Vu. After purchasing aGroupon for up to $69 of haircut/blowdry services, and informing the stylist I would be paying with Groupon, she told me I would have an extra charge because my hair was "long" (hair was at armpit length). The stylist was hard to understand (foreign) and I thought she said $5, and repeated back "$5? For what?" "Oh, because hair is long, extra charge is listed on our website". I agreed to the silly $5, she cut it, and at check out charged my card for $25. After leaving the salon, I checked the website and found no such extra $25 fee, my hair was NOT "long"; this was clearly a case of the salon trying to get extra money once they were aware I would be paying via Groupon. On the website, the highest price a haircut can be is $69. In comparison, a friend with hair to her waistline had previously paid for a full price $69 cut there, and did NOT have an extra $25 charge. When I checked the website and found no $25 extra price listed, I called to ask for a refund, and was hung up on by the manager. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND, WILL NOT RETURN. read more

After relocating to Atlanta I was on the hunt for a stylist. While in mid-town I saw a blonde who had absolutely amazing hair color, so I had to ask. She recommended Carter Vu Salon and the rest, as they say, is history. Living in Nashville, I spent many years searching for a stylist who could cut and color my baby fine hair. One trip to the Carter vu Salon and I became a loyal customer forever. Not only do I love how my hair looks but I get compliments all the time. Carter Vu, is truly a gem! The salon is spacious and comfortable. Parking is in a private lot and easily available. I've been greeted by a friendly staff member every time and am always pampered. In fact, today I had a blow out that was truly amazing. With the quality of work perfumed at the salon, you would think the pricing would be off the charts however they aren't at all. I paid the same amount , if not more, in Nashville and never left feeling completely satisfied. No wonder all the gorgeous blondes go to Carter Vu. I feel very fortunate and extremely lucky to have found the Carter Vu Salon. Two thumbs up!! read more

I first found Carter Vu Salon on Scoutmob. I have very low-maintenance hair, so I like trying out different places if there's a discount offered. As soon as I walked in the door, I was pleasantly surprised to see the fun atmosphere! Everyone was extremely welcoming, especially Carter himself. I got my haircut by Milana and it was a wonderful experience! She was able to give me the exact style that I described to her and fully blow dry it in less than an hour. We had very similar hair (black, long, layered), so she was able to really understand what I was looking for. She was also extremely knowledgeable about what works best for everyone and I was able to gain a lot of insight/tips from her in a very short amount of time. Although I was using Scoutmob, I felt like she still gave me her best service which is definitely appreciated. I ended up giving her over a 50% tip because of how pleased I was with the results and service. Honestly, I've always hopped around salons and usually only get about 2 haircuts per year, but I have a feeling I'll be seeing Milana regularly now :) Thanks for everything! read more

It is hard for me to find a stylist. I am Black/Irish with thick, curly and frizzy hair. Black salons tend to grease it up to much and white salons make me look like a frizzy french poodle!! Back in Boston I found a salon in Chinatown that I love so much, I go there everytime I visit Boston. I never expected to find a place like that here, but the deal was too good to pass up! Best decision ever! I will NEVER go anywhere else!! Eva was wonderful!! She colored, cut and styled my hair perfectly! I asked for a blow out, which is a chore for my hair - it looked so amazing! So healthy and NOT FRIZZY!! The salon it self is very professional, clean and uncluttered. The owner is very funny and I enjoyed being there. I still cannot believe I paid $75 for an amazing hair cut/color! Do yourself a favor and get on this deal!! read more

I have been to Eva twice now for partial highlight and cut. She is friendly, makes helpful suggestions for your unique hair care, and did a fabulous job. Although I got a partial highlight, she used significantly more foils than other places I have been. She did such a great job with my color that others complimented me and asked me where I went. I was nervous about trying a new place after moving to Atlanta, but I left feeling like I had found my new hair salon. I also appreciated that I did not feel like I was being sold products the whole time, although on my second visit I did purchase some products- mostly because I did not feel like I was being up sold. The whole experience was very relaxing and I felt pampered. I would definitely recommend Eva- she is a fantastic stylist who will provide you with exceptional service. read more

I am very impressed with Eva! She has given me partial highlights and cut on two occasions and color, highlight, and cut when I decided to try red. I showed her a picture of the color I wanted and she matched the strawberry blonde exactly. I have gotten compliments on her work every time I go and my hair looks very natural, even as it grows out. She is committed to giving you what you want and definitely goes above and beyond in her work. I will be a customer for as long as I live in Atlanta. I was nervous about trying a new salon when I moved here, but I went to Carter Vu after a friend recommended it and have been very happy that I did! Awesome!!! I was on my vacation and one of a friend suggested i should have my hair trimmed. I was reluctant to do so. After a being convinced, I decided to get it done, just to please my friend. I search for a hair salon in Atlanta and was recommended by a friend to visit Carter Vu Hair Salon. I am not a big fan of a fancy salon but I was so amazed to the style of this salon. Quite unique! I loved the atmosphere, the friendliness and the way its decorated. Ive got my hair trimmed as I could not believe in my eyes that it was extremely making over to suit my outlook. I've been going to Carter for about three years now and I have to tell you I drive ALL THE WAY from FL for this!! There's nothing like this salon. EVERYONE who works there exceeds my expectations and I feel like a million bucks every appointment. I've tried many, many hair salons and never have I experienced the perfection I recieve at Carter's. I don't even have to tell him what I want, he touches my hair and knows immediately. I even brought my boyfriend in (who is very picky about who does his hair because it's very thick and curly) and he said hands down the best cut he's ever gotten. I always get a partial with a cut and multiple people stop me on the street to ask who did my hair! I just love love love! I am so blown away by this salon! I was shopping at Bloomingdale's and had to stop this nice lady to ask about her hair. Her blonde color was absolutely amazing! It's so hard to find a good colorist. She passed along Eva's info at Carter Vu's. I live in Roswell so this totally worth the drive. I definitely walked away having a professional high class salon experience. Since I have received so many compliments I have sent several referrals their way. I am happy to share this salon with everyone in Atlanta! The negative first time groupon user's comments seem inaccurate to me. Even though I was a first time client Eva honored the groupon price. Tiffany rocks;) I absolutely Love my hair......Now! I had the kertin treatment, highlights, and cut. I had the same kertin treatment 3 years ago at a different salon and did not have the results I have now. I have very thick, course, curly, frizzy hair. Since treatment, I don't have to apply all the product to keep it from frizzing. It has been almost 3 weeks since the treatment and I am still just as excited as day 1...... Even more importantly, about how easy my hair is to manage now! The highlights are natural, just the way I like them and have had lots of compliments. And lastly the cut, I have had lots of stylist get lost in my hair.....Tiffany didn't and she also made recommendations, which I appreciate. read more

Carter Vu is the best colorist I have found after living in several major cities and trying the "top" salons in Atlanta. He is a color instructor for Matrix, continually learning more about the process. I am a brunette with highlights and an on going challenge to cover thick grey hair. Carter uses two different formulas of brown in the front and back of my hair to beat my grey and is the only person who has been able to perfect highlights that never turn brassy. His cuts are great too, I no longer have to have separate appointments for different stylists. He has hours until 6pm and on Saturday which is super helpful for working people. I was lucky enough to purchase a livingsocial deal on a whim and found a wonderful new stylist! My hair had been absolutely fried by a horrible perm I got back in April at a different Smyrna salon (advertised as a "Best of Atlanta") and nothing seemed to help the condition of my hair. I threw everything at it: deep conditioner, hair masque, leave-in products - nothing worked. Then I met Joyce at Carter Vu...she gave me a great new color (I had been alternating with salon color and do-it-at-home), and a fabulous new hair cut. I love coming here to get my Vu Do. Everyone there is professional. I have been getting a cut and color by Carter for about 10 years and always receive so many compliments. Even when I moved 45 minutes away, I make time to go there. The color is perfect and seems to last longer than other places I used to go. I don't even need to tell him what to do... He just makes it fabulous. The best thing is, he won't give me a cut that isn't right for my hair type because he knows I won't be able to style it when I get home. I went to Carter for a keratin treatment for my frizzy and often unmanageable hair after a recommendation from a friend. I was so impressed when he went through the science behind the keratin treatment and explained the benefits of amino fusion instead. I was sold and he did an amino fusion treatment on my hair that has far surpassed my expectations. My curly, frizzy hair is now smooth and striaght with very little work. It takes me less than 15 minutes to dry my hair and it's board straight with not a single sign of frizz. I'm 100% sold on the treatment and will definitely be back to Carter Vu again. His knowledge of products and personable attitude have made me a fan. read more

I have never written a review for anything on the internet, but this experience definitely deserves one! I got my haircut from Milana yesterday & I have to say, that was the best haircut I have gotten in 26 years! I have thick hair and I have been wanting layers for years but no hairstylist has been able to do it like I want. I went out on a limb and tried a new salon because of the Groupon I purchased, and I couldn't be more satisfied by her work. She actually gives you a haircut that is best for what type of hair you have, the shape of your head & face. I came out of there looking like a movie star. My hair has never looked better since I started going to Carter in 2008. I live in NY and Dallas and still fly to him once a month or so because I don't trust anyone else. His prices are definitely reasonable, not inflated like 90% of other hair stylists out there. My hair has natural red tones in it that I want covered up. For some reason other colorists haven't been able to make that happen, nor have they gotten to the roots so my highlights look natural. The first time I went to Carter I asked for no red, and highlights and lowlights, and BAM! He nailed it! He had me from then on. I've traveled to him from wherever I am for my Vu-Do, and will continue to do so. read more
