Carter's Ice Cream is finally open. Its a nice short walking distance to East Lynn Park where you can sit and enjoy the sun there. Its a family own business, so they have slightly more limited same flavours. But tried and tested true flavours. With just a take out window, they only accept debit. No credit card or cash. Opening only on Wed to Sun 12-6pm, great hours. I also like the fact that they sell baking supplies to those who needs them. An overpriced disappointment! I went here recently because I love ice cream and was enjoying the weather in Lynn Park. I pretty much have some ice cream on the daily during the summer, so I'm a tough sell; it actually has to be good! I heard they serve Kawartha's so I was excited because I love that brand! I had two scoops on a regular cone and it was just shy of $10 - I almost dropped my cone on the sidewalk out of shock! I chose tiger tail and the blueberry cheesecake swirl. The flavouring was muted and the consistency of the ice cream was airy and overly soft. I'm not convinced this was Kawartha's. It was barely cold and was already a drippy mess when the clerk handed it over, so maybe that's the reason. How dare they ruin my favourite brand!!!!!!! It's not a place I'll visit again. read more

The taste/quality to price ratio just isn't there for me. This place has average ice cream at ridiculous prices. Went in the first time and had a milkshake while my friend had the tiger tail ice cream. Both were okay but nothing special. I decided to give this place another try and had the mint chocolate chip cream as a milkshake while my friend had the mocha ice cream as a milkshake. Same impressions again. At almost $18 dollars for 2 milkshakes, I'd expect to be wowed. Also, they might want to blend milkshakes a little more or get bigger straws because both times, all the chocolate chips that were in my ice cream were left stranded at the bottom of my milkshake. Friendly. Adorable. Quaint. These are just some of the words one can use to describe this ice cream shop in the Woodbine/Danforth neighbourhood. This candy-stripe clad establishment is such a welcoming slice of summer to the area. There's a quiet sitting area for families off the Danforth with kid-size seats and adult-sized benches. The interior feels like a not-so-cheesy candy shop at the fair (complete with pink elephant popcorn). Adorn one wall is artwork from kids depicting their love for ice cream. Dare I say, it's adorable! And though the flavours aren't anything innovative, it's still a great place to stop by for a late(ish) night ice cream run. The French vanilla in milkshake form is more delightful than words can say. Oh and as a word to the wise - go in knowing that one scoop actually means two scoops. This is a great neighbourhood ice cream parlour that serves Kawartha Dairy ice cream. The kid friendly service includes kid sized chairs on the quaint outdoor patio. Giant serving sizes always include free sprinkles. My personal favourite is the peanut butter chocolate on a sugar cone. Yum. It was my first time here but I was surprised that they didn't have many flavours. I ended up getting the vanilla coconut bliss with caramel drizzled on top and didn't really enjoy it that much. I've definitely had better tasting coconut ice cream before. My boyfriend got run and raisin which he said was good. We discovered this place whilst researching milkshake places on yelp! in our area. It is just off the main road and we almost missed it so make sure to know which street it is on before you head there. Great selection of flavours and they even offer breakfast and brucnh items! I had the Tiger milkshake which is orange and licorice ice cream (amazing!) my fiance had moose flavour which was chocolate and fudge with peanut butter cups! I thought it seemed a little pricey at $5.99 for a medium milkshake but the scoops of ice cream are so generous, seriously I saw her load three huge scoops into the cup! can anyone say calorific?! worth it for a weekend treat though, delicious! I agree with the other reviewer the scoops are crazy big!!!! We found this place (or should I say the kids did) last year, the owner is very helpful & has a quaint little old fashion ice cream shop. Kids art work of Carters or what they think of it adorn the walls. The flavours are changed week to week so the variety is very good. Price is cheap for the serving you get. Inside seating and outdoor patio chairs. Parking is hard to come by, but if you live in the neighbourhood walk because your ass will thank you....milkshakes, sundaes and plenty of choices for sprinkles. I came to get my free ice cream at Carter's Ice Cream on a very hot summer July day and picked the Butter Pecan flavour. They have an assortment of cone selections to choose from (or even just on a cup) and I got the sugar cone one. I was surprised as to how big the ice cream was - it was "massive"! Generally I would take that as a sign that they are trying to compensate for the quality by giving you the quantity but this was NOT the case at all! The ice cream was really rich and creamy. The pecan bits were present and they give you a generous amount in the mix. It wasn't just luck that I got a really good amount of pecans in my ice cream. The store had a lot of customers who came as a family with baby strollers and all - it was that family-friendly. They also have the colourful "tiny chairs" outside for the kids to sit on. Thankfully they also have A/C inside but it can get crowded fast as it is a pretty intimate space. I can see that it is a hit in the neighborhood and I'm not surprised with the quantity and quality ice cream that they offer. Plus great service as well. read more

I can't believe this little gem has been right around the corner all this time! It's the cutest little shop with great service and even smells great haha. They have all the basic and typical flavours like pistachio almond, birthday cake, dark chocolate+fudge, cherry, toffee something, chocolate chip cookie dough and more (about 20 flavours total). My boyfriend and I shared the Choco chip cookie dough and I regret it because we ended up fighting over the entire thing! I'm used to this flavour being super sweet but carter has it just right. The chips and chunks also added a nice crunch to the smooth texture. Bonus points for having the pointy cone and not the disappointing flat bottom ones. It was around $4.50 for a single scoop that was more like a scoop and a half! I'll definitely be back but I'll probably get bored of these flavours quickly. read more

They don't serve home made or artisan once cream like Wong's, Kekou, Bang Bang, etc but they do serve Kawartha's! We always stop by the Kawartha store when we are in Huntsville / coming back from Algonquin Park. Kawartha ice cream tastes fresh and refreshing unlike other Ice cream places (especially McDonald's) This is just around the corner from my parents so it's perfectly located. You can't go wrong with good ice cream (unless of course you are lactose intolerant!). Carter's is a small shop with friendly staff, a nice addition to the neighbourhood. The shop can get very busy, which makes reading the available flavours a bit tricky since they are only written on the display case, but I guess that goes to show how popular they are. I'm partial to this place because I live so close to it. It's also a very unique ice cream shop, mostly because it's not a franchise and it's quite fitting to the family atmosphere that is this Neighbourhood. Rarely is it not busy. For me I would like to see some different flavours. Some might argue that because they always have the same flavours on hand it's a dependable family store. Overall it's a great store. My wife and I think it's pretty cute that the owners have plastic child sized Adirondack chairs for the kids out front :) I doubt you'd be disappointed going here. Been coming here for 4 years with my son! It is an old school local parlour that serves up Kwartha Dairy and homemade waffle cones with all the fixings! Framed Artwork from the neighbourhood kids lines the walls and it is the perfect stop on a warm date night, or to bring the family after a practice! Love it! Had a sundae with truffle trio (?) flavour-- chocolate ice cream with chocolate, caramel, and hazelnut truffle. It was so good! They also had a couple vegan options if that's more your style. Super cute decor, excellent music playing in the background, and friendly staff (and free samples if you wanna try before you buy). Depending on what you order, it can get a little pricy, but no more than other ice cream shops in Toronto. Plus, large scoops! The current M.O. Is cashing in on parental guilt by serving up mediocre ice cream at an exorbitant price by unfriendly teenage girls in slow-mo. Who charges 75 cents EXTRA for a crappy no-name sugar cone?? That's just rude. If you want to experience a genuine neighborhood ice cream shop and really get your money's worth, stick with Ed's where they make their own delicious product and will give you a baby sample cone for the kids for FREE! No extra charges for ice cream basics like cones. I told my kids that we won't be going back to Carter's as I'm not interested in being ripped off. I never had a good experience there. The staff is absolutely not helpful and not caring about customers. Each time I felt that I'm a nuisance, distracting them from whatever important things they are doing. Today, as usual - not helpful. And tried to charge me $9.58 for a single kid's scoop. Blamed it on the machine, did not even apologized. They do not accept credit cards and charge $0.20 for debit. The ice cream is average. This is astonishing in the city with so many establishments caring about their customer service and their products. I think people in the neighborhood are too forgiving the abysmal service.
