Joshua did a great job with the hot water heater flush. He explained about the anode rod and how you can detect when it needs to be replaced by the "smell" of the water. If I could give negative stars, I would. I called this company during a stressful no water situation. To their credit, they did send someone out right away. Unfortunately, that's where the professionalism ended and the upselling began. Within minutes of looking at my system, the tech told me confidently that I "definitely" needed an entirely new well pump. Price tag? $5,000. No discussion of alternatives. No troubleshooting. No checking the simple, inexpensive components first. They skipped straight to the most extreme and most profitable recommendation. Thankfully, I trusted my instincts and got a second opinion. The truth? My pump was perfectly fine. I didn't need a $5,000 replacement. I didn't even need a $500 repair. Or even a $50 repair. The real issue was a simple electrical problem that the power company fixed for free!!! and at most I needed a basic pressure switch replacement--something this tech should have checked first. But it gets better (or worse, depending on how you look at it). After I declined the wildly unnecessary replacement, the technician began calling and texting me about how his assessment was 100% correct and to chew me out for a negative review. The pressure to approve the job or his bad assessment bordered on harassment. Completely unacceptable and wildly unprofessional. So here's my honest summary: If you want a company that diagnoses correctly, looks for honest solutions, or respects your boundaries, look elsewhere. Carters did ultimately agree to pay for the removal of the damaged bushes. To be precise, this payment was strictly contingent upon the immediate removal of all my negative reviews from Google and other public platforms - a condition I have since upheld on every other site. I must express my profound disappointment that resolving property damage caused by their service was contingent upon silencing my honest feedback. Frankly, having to participate in an agreement that appears intended to manipulate your public ratings makes me feel that your business practices are fundamentally unethical. Therefore, the financial debt for the bushes is settled, and I have largely complied with the demand to remove my negative feedback elsewhere. My original negative experience remains completely unchanged. I must now add that this company uses compensation as a tactic to actively manipulate its public image. I cannot stress enough that the headache of dealing with this company was not worth the refund, but the public deserves to know the full cost of this 'resolution.' I had a dripping kitchen faucet. I'm a senior citizen living on a fixed income. My daughter was concerned that my water bill may escalate so she "plumber" searched on my behalf. Not sure how or why she chose this company, but I truly hate she did! Looking out for Mama she paid over $600.00 to have a dripping faucet replaced and get this...she purchased and picked up the new faucet! I asked the techs who came out if they gave a senior discount. Answer was no. I was limited to what I could speak on, because as I said my daughter covered this bill on my need. We had a bathtub/shower unit that was 25 years old with hard-to-turn handles and a dripping faucet that had started trickling. We were thinking we'd have to wait for a bathroom remodel to see it work right again. But one Saturday morning I had an idea and called Carter's My Plumber, where a friendly voice scheduled us for service that Monday. They even worked around my work schedule. So Monday afternoon, a fellow named Gavin Buchanan-Butler showed up at our door and got right to work. We needed a new faucet and a new cartridge, and Gavin gave us the quote. To save some money, we purchased our own faucet that evening, and he returned the following afternoon with a new cartridge. When he tried to remove the handle and lever assembly, he found the handle screwhead had been completely stripped from years of tightening and retightening. So he replaced our faucet. Then he talked with his manager and gave us a chance to purchase our own handle and lever. Gavin was so easygoing and patient, and his boss was so nice, that he returned yet ANOTHER afternoon to drill out the stripped screw, remove the handle and lever to finally be able to replace the cartridge and then install the new lever and handle. He made sure everything was just right, and even though Gavin had to show up three times for the quote and the job, the original quote was still generously honored by Gavin and his manager. We have had Carter's My Plumber out to install a new water heater, repair a slab leak, and now to fix our faucet. Every time, the plumbers have been on time, friendly, professional, good with their communication and advice without being pushy, and knowledgeable and skilled in their work. We hope for Gavin's sake the next quote and job won't require three trips, but we would be 100% pleased and confident to have him back any time we need a plumber. When you're writing a review on a plumber, you know you've just spend some time and money that you would have rather spent elsewhere. But, if we had to, I'm glad it was Carter's we were able to call. A month ago, our main sewer line decided to break on us and back up into our basement. Long story short, almost all the piping in our basement and out to the city line have been replaced by Carter's. We've worked with them several time and they've proven to be honest, fair and do great quality, quick work. Brandon was very helpful and knowledgeable helping us navigate between Citizen's and getting curb stop shut off to enable them to do the work. I would go to a different company: I got a sump pump checkup a few months ago. The service person gave me a quote and started out quoting me to replace the whole sump system, all I wanted was a check on the backup battery. In the end they wanted over $1000 to replace the battery. I never got a written quote or anything sent to my email. When I went back into the basement a day later my ring doorbell was gone. Nobody else goes into the basement except myself - I would use someone else. I will have my handyman replace the battery back up. Update - I would like to update my review. While I was upset about the whole service call, Carters did reach out to me to make sure I understood that the quote was more than just changing the battery on the backup and they offered to resend the quote to me that possibly had gone into my spam. I will give them at least a thumbs up for following up. read more

Professional, courteous, on time, and totally out of control on pricing. I needed a plumber to add chlorine to the well for a minor issue that needed resolved before the sale. i was advised the service call was free if I accepted their service. Also had a $50 coupon. They arrived on time but they didn't have the chlorine with them. We agreed to have them come back. Very nice employee. Put the chlorine in, rinsed, shut down indoor water equipment, and explained the process. Came back the next day. Turned on the water equipment, turned on all the faucets, and ran the chlorine through the system. 2 hours. $1940 or $480 per hour. Invoiced at $1940 for a job that according to most should have been $400-800. No mention of the waiver of the service call or coupon. Maybe that was taken into consideration so maybe the invoice should have been $2065. I appreciate good service but I do not appreciate gouging. read more

We we referred to Jody and Carters My Plumber from another plumber who wasn't able to work on my home water lines. The office has been pleasant and understanding since my calls started in December. We formatted a plan for the leak, he added a military discount and we were so happy with the work. The employees were great and kept in close contact all day. They stayed and helped me do the application for the credit card through syncrony which is a wonderful card. The interest rates are better than I've ever seen for a home credit line. We got a 9% apr until paid off but they have no interest for 18 month option and others around 3% and 5%. The plumber stayed and texted and emailed all the photos without me even having to ask. They work was done in less than a day which was wonderful and we are so happy happy we shopped around for quotes for an entire week. They were weren't the lowest (which was a small small shop) but they were runner up and we are so happy with our decision. We received a thank you letter (hand written ) for our business with a Valentines Day gift card to Starbucks. it's the small thing and this company knows it! My first experience was ok. My sump pump stopped working, the technician recommend me to replace the entire system which they wanted 3k which was a high price. I said what is the mandatory things I need he said the main sump pump. I asked how much is that he 670 I said that's not bad let's do that. He then tried up charging me to a sump pump battery charging me almost 1100 for that and install. I said that's unreal high it's 100-200 to buy it and takes less than a couple minutes and showed him the prices so I declined that and did it myself. My sump pump starts making a huge noise 2 weeks later so I call them up again they come out and said it's my backup pump needing replacing I said how much is that he said $3900. I said you guys are some con artist that's unreal high I said you just did the main which was more expensive for 670 and now you want me to do that I said I can call anyone else in town and would be under 1k. He then email me a quote later for 2900. I texted the guy and asked how much he would charge for labor to do it he said around 500 or less then I asked him is this the part at Home Depot it was under 200 he said yes. So a 700 bill that he wanted to charge 3900 I obviously didn't use them and I called up another company that quoted me 550 for materials and install. I had an issue with a water leak from the humidifier water line. After discovering that the main water line cut off did not completely cut off the water I went online and booked an appointment for the next day. I simply used a garden hose to reroute the leaking water line to my sump pump at a reduced flow because the main would reduce the water flow. The technician arrived within the time specified I would called and told that they were 40 minutes away in route. The technician was professional friendly courteous nicely dressed. He discussed my options with me and I made a decision as to what repairs I wish to have done. Two plumbers came out to my daughter's house to reseat a toilet, install a water softener with plumbing already in place, and install a new vanity/sink. My daughter called to go over the estimate with me before authorizing the work to be done. When she told me it would be approximately $700, I thought that was reasonable. But then I was told that was only for that day's charges because they had to come back to install the water softener. The total was over $1800! I asked to speak to one of the plumbers for a breakdown of the estimate. One of the charges was $198 for them to go to the hardware store and pick up a couple parts! Yes, they wanted to charge almost $200 to pick up some parts!! When I told them to forget about it and we would find someone else, the plumber frantically tried to talk me into using them and said he'd take off 20%. When I told him that still wouldn't work, he wanted to know what I would be willing to pay. I wouldn't have had them do service for any price with them trying to rip off my young daughter and then play The Price is Right with me over the phone. I was told the service call would be $29 if we didn't get the service done. When I told them we were declining service, they tried to rip us off again by saying it would be $49 for the trip charge. I don't know what is going on, but $1800 for three small plumbing jobs that would take a couple hours is astronomical, and I was shocked that a locally owned and operated company would be double the price of the next estimate I received. And to be charged $200 to go down the street to the hardware store was completely unbelievable. It's the plumber's job to have the necessary parts, and if they don't have the right parts, it's their job to go get them or order them to repair at a later date. I am attaching a picture of the estimate. Maybe someone can explain why the prices are so much higher than the subsequent two estimates I received and why my daughter was going to be charged almost $200 to pick up parts. They reviewed the cost that we were quoted and honored the quote even though it was off. They quickly installed the new heater and hauled off the old one with the cardboard box from the new one. OMG. Finally, professionals who tell you when they'll arrive, show up early, tell you all your options, what it will cost, are friendly, knowledgeable, efficient and clean up after themselves. Job was hurried and rushed and it shows in the quality of the work. They are more expensive than the other plumbing companies. Plumber was very vague and provided bare minimum information about what he was doing and didn't offer any information or communicate about the details of the job without actually having to be prompted by me first. He didn't check to make sure everything was working after he finished before he left , I stopped him and made sure "I" checked, not "him" ...me. That right there shows the complete lack of care by the plumber. That was incredibly irresponsible and disrespectful of him to have such a lack of care and quality to the job he just did and to my house. It seemed as if he was clock watching and rushing to hurry up the job so he could hurry up and get off work. We're not talking about a massive repair going into the late evening time here folks. Also I was reassured by the lady who made the appointment that this would not happen because she would personally make sure he has no other jobs booked for the rest of the day so he doesn't rush to get the job done so that it gets done properly.....and guess what happened anyways...plumber rushed the job, poor quality of work , poor customer service, and poor attitude , with a big bill. First and last time using this company. But these trial and errors are necessary to find the good people and good companies ...this is just not one of them. read more

We had a leaky water heater last year and called them to replace it, a family member recommended them. They replaced it for $2600 which I later learned was way more than we should have paid but they offered next day service. Fast forward 6 months and the unit is making a ticking noise. They return and said It is getting too hot because it isn't venting properly because the installer forgot to install the baffle in the flue. They fix it but not before trying to upsell us on a tankless unit. Fast forward a year They go to do the drain of the unit per our contract and tell me it's overheating again and after 3 visits again my only answer is to upgrade and pay anywhere between $1397 and $2850 more for a tank less or fan vent unit. Ironically our old unit was identical to this one but since they brought it to code (their words not mine) it hasn't vented properly. I'm getting a second opinion from the company we should have hired initially who told us they could have saved us $800 on the unit and install. Would NEVER use this company again. They charge exorbitant prices when they see you live in a nice home. Very dishonest company read more

Called at 7a for a plumber to come look at my leaking water heater. Talked to answering service. Jody called me back around 7:25 and said someone could be here in 1-2 hrs. 1.5 hrs later I got a text that someone was en route. About 30 min later he showed up. No introduction, just said Hi and walked inside. I explained the problem and what I had done thus far to the water heater. He turned a couple knobs and asked a couple questions. Then said it needed replaced, it couldn't be fixed because there was no way to get inside it and repair it. I asked for an estimate. While he was writing it up, I called a local company and they quoted $800 cheaper. I told the Carter's plumber and he said "oh wow, our water heater cost more than that. I can't go that low." He contacted his boss to see how low they could go, but still didn't come close and the warranty was dropped way down to even get that low. So, I just paid the estimate/call out fee and that was it. Recently moved to Indianapolis and called Carter's (on a list of referrals from my realtor) on Saturday morning when it appeared that my water heater was spewing water on the wall and floor. A rep came on Monday, felt under the water heater, said the floor was wet and the water heater needed to be replaced. The cheapest option presented to me was $2,324 for a 50 gallon unit. The unit was installed and several hours later, water was again all over the floor. Carter's quickly sent a tech out and he said it was the HVAC spewing water. He said that his HVAC friend would call me the next morning, but no one called. Today, Johnson Heating Cooling Plumbing, determined that the line on the condensate pump had been cut and the pump and line needed to be replaced. Apparently, there was nothing wrong with the water heater and Carter's, without initially considering the water could have been coming from the HVAC, said that I needed a new water heater. read more

The technician stated that he didn't have piping on his truck to complete the job and that he would have to charge me for him to get the piping. The technician was professional and courteous. Highly recommend Sean Mooney of Carter's My Plumber. We had some ongoing floor drain issues (that were not staying fixed). A friend referred us to Sean, and we are so happy with his work. Extremely thorough, knowledgeable, and service oriented. Very reasonable price. Ours was a drain issue--older home (built in 1947). But I now plan to call them for everything. Their service level was super impressive from the call back by Tonya (after business hours) to the work by Sean. I haven't seen this level of service in a very long time! read more

OVER $400.00 TO RESEAL TOILET! A toilet in my house had a small leak from the seal on the floor. I called Carter's My Plumber to request an estimate to reseal it. They told me $273.00 over the phone. It seemed a little high, but I made an appointment for the next day. The plumber that arrived was a nice young man, we like him. The only extra parts were for a new shutoff valve on the water intake line next to the toilet (a $5.00 part). Somehow, my bill soared to $411.00! For that amount of money, I could have purchased a higher end toilet from Home Depot and had them install it. So, I'm very dissatisfied with what I got for my money. The bill should have been $273.00 and maybe another $20.00 for the shutoff valve (including labor). So, before you call the plumber, think Home Depot or Lowes, get a price on a new toilet including installation. I think you'll be MUCH happier. read more

The short version is that Carter did work that I did not agree to and then charged me more than $100.00 over market value for the work that I didn't agree to. I needed to replace a leaking delta cartridge on my bathtub faucet. I called Carter to take off a ring that covered the cartridge because it was stuck and I could not get it off. I had already replaced the shower head and bathtub faucet. Due to me applying too much force when trying to remove the ring, the valve started leaking as well. Carter would not even entertain a quote until they sent someone out and would charge around $30.00 just to look at it. I was not home when the plumber arrived and my wife speaks limited English. I spoke with the plumber over the phone before he arrived and explained what I had done so far. He told me that he would need to replace the valve and that he would need to cut a hole in the wall behind the shower to access the valve. The issues start here. He quoted me $857.00 to replace the valve and roughly $100.00 just to place a panel over the hole he planned to cut. I asked his how much I owed him for coming out to give the quote and he asked how he can get it taken care of today. I told him that he would need to lower the price to around $700.00. He offered $722.00 for the service and the same price as before for the panel. I told him that I did not want the panel and then he says that the price will be $770.00 if I do not want the panel. So the panel was $100.00 if I wanted it, but if I didn't it would only take off $50.00. I asked him about it and he took the price back down to $722.00 without the panel. At this point I already didn't trust him, but I needed it done and I was running out of time to talk on the phone, so I told him to go ahead for $722.00. When I returned home that evening I went to finish the bathroom and put my new handle and new cartridge onto the new valve that he had installed. I found that he had removed the new shower head and bathtub faucet that I had just bought and put in his own from his truck. My wife then tells me that the plumber told her to return all of the new trim and cartridge that I had purchased to wherever we bought it from. The plumber never mentioned anything about replacing the trim on my shower. I expected a replaced valve and for him to remove the ring around the cartridge that was it. I now started to understand why the service was so expensive, but it still seemed high for just bathtub+shower trim and a valve. So, I got quotes from three separate companies of varying sizes to do the exact same work that was done by Carter even though the work they did was not what I asked for. The highest quote I received was $600.00. So on top of lying about the service that they were going to provide, they also charged over $100.00 more than market value for their service after trying to charge me over $200.00 more than market value. I have tried talking to them and spoke over the phone multiple times and they act apologetic, but refuse to acknowledge any wrongdoing and offered to come back out and put my trim back on and put a panel in without compensating me for paying for the whole trim package that I didn't need. The person I talked to about the service tried to imply that he could not buy only a valve and that the only way he could get a valve would be in a kit that included the trim, which would be a flat out lie. I suggested that they cut me a check for $150.00 (which would make the total $572.00 which is close to the highest quote I received for the work I didn't want) and that they would not have to do anything further and they called back and offered me $30.00. I refused and he told me that we would have to go through the better business bureau to arbitrate further. This has been a lesson for me not to give in to sales pressure and to ALWAYS get more than one quote. It has been 17 days since the service was performed and I have not gotten any resolution for my issue. It's bad enough to add on extra services, but to overcharge for it as well truly shows their arrogance. read more

This plumbing service came out to my home with a 1 day notice of calling them. I had a water meter pit that needed maintenance. After receiving 4 quotes from other plumbing services, they gave me by far the BEST deal! It was so reasonable that it was unbelievable. The customer service via phone and in person was awesome. This company was not like the other big name companies. They were very personable and wanted to actually help out instead of having an objective of sucking your pockets dry. I can't believe that I was not referred to them by anyone locally because they were a godsend. I will from now on use them as my plumbing service with no questions asked. Called them out to put a drain in for my clothes washer. The guy looks everything over then goes over the plan and gives me a price. He also notices my hose spigot could use changing, shows me why pointing out issues with it. Gives me a price of $294 for just the spigot and can be done later. So I agree to the drain install price and he comes back out a few days later but tells me he's not sure if it can be done! He calls his manager who comes out and tells him how to do it, which was the way he told me HE was going to do it. It gets done and works fine. I call them a month later and ask to get the spigot changed now and how much was that again I asked? $294. I said go for it. They send the exact same guy out that showed me the problem with the old one. He tells me it should be $394 because of how difficult it is to get to! He was the one that looked at it in the first place! Felt like he was trying to shake me down for $100 more. Nice guy good work but not exactly trust worthy.
