Early the next morning, I had a message from Adam B. Once I got to work, I returned the call and quickly described my issue and what I believed it to be. The first available appointment wasn't until Monday (it wasn't urgent, so I wasn't worried about going the weekend). I got my timeframe. I had a couple other appointments that day, so I ended up taking the day off so I could easily be available. I immediately liked that they told me who would be arriving - AND that was who arrived. I also liked that they use a customer portal that allows you to have some security if you pay online or to review your records. Christian arrived (there was one other person with him). It took him a couple minutes to diagnose the issue he believed it to be, and it took him not a lot longer to determine that diagnosis correct. He quoted the price, I agreed, and he got to work. After finishing the work, he determined the original issue I'd believed it to be wasn't quite needing to be addressed (but will be in the near future). We discussed options, including ways I could save a bit. Christian was personable and explained things in a way I could understand. The issue was likely caused by me, but he managed to avoid using the word "idiot" at any point. The repair was done in a timely manner. The price ended up being a bit lower than quoted. I appreciated his honesty as he very easily could have pointed me toward a repair not needing done yet. It also became obvious the last person I'd used had really only done half the job. Everything has worked beautifully since Christian finished. There are likely a couple more projects I'll tackle in the near future, and I won't hesitate to return to Grateful Plumber. The housecall was $59, but that was credited toward the repair once I decided to have them do the work. Friendly employees. Good follow-through. Fair pricing. Quality work. Problem solved. That's 5-star for me and another winner for Yelp's project feature.

This time around, I've gotten the chance to try out Chapman to address some electrical issues in the house. Truthfully, I wasn't aware that Chapman handled electrical. I'd begun having some significant electrical issues a couple weeks before Thanksgiving. I called another company that I'd used for a smaller project with good results. They came over and did some minor adjustments, however, they noted there were significant issues and planned to send me an estimate. They did let me know this "fix" was more like a band-aid and the significant work was inevitable. It was less than a day when the "band-aid" stopped working. I waited a bit anticipating their estimate, though also disappointed that they'd done such a weak fix. Finally, things got WAY worse. It was shortly before Thanksgiving and the situation was urgent. I left a message for Chapman anticipating that I was likely out of luck for the holiday weekend. My general sense was that was their plan, too. However, I think the rep (I believe her name was Hannah) heard the panic in my voice and I explained my situation. She arranged for a technician to visit the house the next day. This tech did agree that the issue was serious and warranted a few major repairs. He explained it well and explained my options. To be honest, I'm usually quite cheap. However, when he gave me two options I went with the more expensive option as I really wanted to make sure the fix was done properly. I was tired of band-aids. They used my initial service call as a down payment and the electrician, Rodney as I recall, scheduled it and made sure he would be the electrician for the project (NOTE: In reality, this ended up being a 2-3 person job). The only slight hiccup was that I'd been told they'd arrive at 8am. In reality, I called them at 10am and learned they were having trouble finding one needed part. That was fine, though I should have been called. Around 11:15, and somewhat surprisingly, they arrived and dug in. Seven hours later? They were done. I was particularly touched by a neat gesture - I'm a wheelchair user. In their estimate, the electrician had written that he'd be putting my new panel in at wheelchair height. This wasn't something I asked for particularly, however, it was a pretty cool gesture recognizing my needs. Rodney explained everything and was entirely work focused. He completed the work as promised and the cost was exactly as quoted. He explained a couple other concerns - including one that wouldn't be a Chapman issue, however, he explained how it could impact the electric. I've now had Chapman work on my furnace and my electric. Are they more expensive? Yeah, I'd say so. If you're looking for a budget electrician, Chapman probably isn't that. However, in all three visits the work has been done and done well. They've avoided band-aids and actually fixed issues. Their quotes have been accurate. The employees have been professional. With the exception of today's tardiness, the experiences have all been impeccable. Truthfully, I should have likely called Chapman first. While I may not call them for smaller issues, the truth is for me it's worth a bit more to get the work done right. The work is warrantied and I now have a system that should last for years and is also accessible. That other company? I still don't have their estimate. Chapman wins.

I questioned them about the service fee. It does not include any service - They should call it an estimate fee. I had a handyman come out and he took out the stopper and cleaned the hair there. So, Yes, I could have gone to Home Depot to get the parts which would have totaled about $30 MAX. But, figured I'd get an expert in who could do it quickly. I checked yelp and saw that seriously 24/7 had some pretty good reviews, however several mentions to them being expensive. Like, obscenely expensive. I figured, Aside from the $159 emergency fee, how bad could it really be for parts that cheap? I called and the lady taking my call was pleasant and they got someone out about 1.5 hours later. The cost would be $159 plus any work to be done. The guys who came were friendly enough, and then they hit me with the cost. This is where the I almost fell over. They wanted $587 to replace the fill valve (nothing wrong with the water shut off). Or, they could replace the toilet for me for $1200? Are you actually kidding me? Seriously they were not. Since I already had $159 invested in this, a couple of hours of wait and a renter waiting for me, it didn't make sense for me to then head to Home Depot for my parts on a Sunday night and have it take any more time. For God sakes I could have gotten a whole toilet and a ring and replaced it myself for $150 if I had another hour. Seriously disgusted, I agreed to that price and in 10 minutes my problem was fixed. Oh great, it comes with a year warranty! Awesome, considering I could always replace it for $15 if i needed. (Looked up the exact part at any box store). Glad I have a functioning toilet but don't be like me and think to yourself "how bad can it actually be?"Because it will be worse. In the past two years I have been "solicited" by every maintenance person to purchase some "expensive" part or unit or service that I do not need. In addition, I sought a second opinion on my heater, and I was informed that I had only 2 screws holding my front unit to the heater left, and there was a part in my heat pump that is ready to burn out. It was a mother board or something like that. I told this to Summers, and no one called me back to talk about the part that was burnt out. Mind you, I have a 10 year warranty. After speaking with CJ, someone came out asap and replaced the mother board, put in the screws and gave me a free year service contract. Now, I also ended up having a whole water filtration system put in. It is time to replace the filter. I called CJ and he had Brady call me. Brady called and told me which filters to get and I asked him to walk me through it. Brady said, why I don't come out and do it for you. I also stated there was a part that was supposed to be replaced in my heat pump that was never completed because they forgot about it. Brady checked it out and "I" told him it was under warranty still. I text him that I got the filters, nothing for 5 days, I text him again, Did you get this, He answers to me "I just saw this, I'm sorry, I can see about tomorrow, I'll have to check my schedule, what is your address again". I told him in a text. He further stated in a text "We won't be able to get out today but I can get u on the scheduled for a day that works for you. We do have a minimum charge of $136.00. But from there, we can show you how to do it and you won't have to pay us again. I send back the next day, Does that include the part for the heater that was never done, CJ knows about this. That was this past Tuesday and it is Sunday, May 10th and no answer back. After this service contract is over and after I contact the office of the CEO, I am THROUGH with this company!!
