Today was extremely warm day, so I decided to take my daughter for ice cream. The store was empty and I was immediately greeted--the employee here was excellent; she was very friendly and personable. My daughter went with vanilla with sprinkles in a cone/bowl and I went with the cookies and cream in a cone/bowl--this part was all good. However, the reason I gave three stars and was semi-disappointed was the Cinnabon. I got a Cinnabon to take home and ate when I got home, but it was clearly not fresh. I planned on eating half and giving the other half to my girlfriend, but I noticed it wasn't fresh and not the quality standard I'm used to from Cinnabon. I would get ice cream here, but will pass on the Cinnabon portion, in the future. read more

I put off ordering takeout for the first half of quarantine, but once I gave in, the world was my oyster. And I hadn't had a good sundae in soooo long, so seeing this Carvel/Cinnabon on Yelp Delivery was cause for celebration. I've been to this Bay Ridge location in-person many times before, but never ordered for delivery (mostly because I didn't realize this was even a thing). I was hesitant to order because I figured the ice cream itself would arrive in a goopy mess but our delivery guy ensured everything arrived fast and in perfect condition. My sundae dasher and 2 trays of ice cream sandwiches were packaged up perfectly and left on my doorstep for a flawless no-contact delivery. Since then, I've ordered a few other times. Same great experience. Really happy they are still open! Summer wouldn't be the same without them. read more

I've come here for years and loved the way the previous owners ram the business. It was well staffed, very clean, customer focused and friendly. What stood out was every time I stopped by the owner was behind the counter, making small talk and serving customers. About a year ago something changed, new owners. In the beginning the place seemed to be maintaining its character. Over the past few months I noticed a change. It does not look as clean, the service is ok and does not have the spark it use to have. What prompted me to write the review was what happened on my most recent visit. What happened can kill a business over time. In the ice cream business it's about quality of the product, cleanliness, and freshness, and presentation (looks are everything) You are looking at photos on the walls of shakes, sundaes cones and imagining how good they taste. When the finished product is served and it does not meet expectation you are done. I ordered two small cups, one with ice cream and Oreo cookies and the other was Mango sherbet. Simple right??? Well that's what got but it wound up with a cover on top smashing everything down and in a bag to go. I did not say to go and the server did not ask if I wanted it to go??? She took it for granted. Especially because they have several tables in the front to sit down and eat your ice cream. Maybe I'm being too critical but it bothered me. I just looked st her and she didn't say anything. I read several of the other reviews that were low stars and they had one thing in common. Several said the owner was rude. Poor customer service is a recipe for disaster in any business. You cannot argue with customers and call them petty. When your customer base remembers how nice the previous owner was they will leave you quickly. If the employees see the owner acted that way why should they act any differently. CHECK OUT THE PHOTOS! NO CUSTOMERS? Personally I won't go back to this Carvel and would tell you to stay away. This place is always delicious and is a combo of Carvel and Cinnabon. The Cinnabon's are baked fresh and on premises and taste great. The ice cream here is also really good and never has disappointed. I got a cake for a coworker and it was fresh and delicious. They are located right off 86th Street so the location is great especially after you finish eating at one of the local restaurants or pubs around. read more

When we walked into the store it had an overpowering smell of mold or mildew. The owner tried to tell us it was sanitizing products but it was horrific. The girls who were taking the orders were completely rude and got the order wrong. She couldn't even be bothered to correct the mistake and when asked, had an attitude. The volcano chocolate ice cream did not taste fresh. I would rather walk up to 76th street where the staff is more pleasant and ice cream always fresh. This carvel is one of my favorites!! You never see a carvel that has a Cinnabon inside and they do. I mean who wouldn't want to go to a carvel that has a Cinnabon inside. The Cinnabon is always fresh tasting and you get that nice gooey taste when you cut a piece and just pop it into your mouth. It's good to know they are always soft and good because sometimes when you go to Cinnabon they have stale ones out but that would never happen here. All there ice cream is AMAZING! It's all so soft and creamy and it's like no other carvel. They have there own taste vs every other carvel and I would say they have the BEST ice cream! They also have a Cinnabon flavor ice cream that no other carvel has and I must say it is amazing! It taste just like a Cinnabon and it has Cinnabon pieces inside. Joe was the first person I thought of when a Client wanted a "Carvel Wedding Cake" ! I never thought I'd see the day, but the match makes sense since both franchises can't survive as a stand-alone store. This particular Carvel has been a staple of this section of Bay Ridge for a very, very long time. Local favorites like Fudgie the Whale, Cookiepuss, and flying saucers adorn their fridge as a testament to time. Pick one up today! The staff works hard but the decor and everything else appears dated compared to their modern day contemporaries. There's also no room to sit around to enjoy dessert, but that's to be expected. Soft-serve and regular ice cream are readily available in an array of flavors. Having another ice cream parlor barely a block away hasn't really helped matters either. We've bought ice cream cakes from here before. They have all the classics and the prices are fair. read more

Today I had an horrific experience at the Carvel Cinnabon at 8612 third ave. I went in to speak to a manager about a cake I ordered . A young woman said she was the manager. I explained my reason for being there and showed her a picture of the cake that seemed to be just put together with no thought or care. Imagine my shock, when I was informed that that was how they made their cakes. With hardly any cookie crunch, and only one layer of ice cream.She told me to order extra crunch next time!!!! She did not even seen to care , told me she was not going to make excuses... thats just how they make them. Not even an apology, just walked away. I have been a resident of bay ridge for 38 years. Myself and family members frequent this Carvel often. What a way to do business, I sincerely hope the owner corrects this matter and hires individuals who are pleasant and courteous. his lively hood is at stake........ I was very excited to get a sundae on BOGO Wednesday. This was my first time at this location but my millionth time at Carvel at large. My friend got Oreo soft serve and I got Pistachio. She enjoyed her Oreo, however, my Pistachio ice cream was TERRIBLE. I get this all the time from different locations. I immediately knew something was wrong. It tasted like warm whipped cream and the shape the ice cream took was like a skinny tower. Very weird and not usual. I told the cashier and he told me it was low carb ice cream, which I didn't ask for, so he was kind enough to give me a new flavor. I had Vanilla next but still it had the same bad and weird taste and shape. I knew something was wrong, It never taste like this and I get this ice cream all the time. The cashier offered to get me a new one but I said I did not want so he offered me a refund. The manger came out and processed the refund. I was still outside talking to my friends and the manager who came out and asked for the other one (the second one in buy one get one) I pointed to my friend and said she is eating it. He then started yelling at me on the sidewalk in public that I should have returned that one too. I told him that I didn't ask for the refund and it was offered to me and cashier didn't ask for it back. He told me that the ice cream was not bad and began to ask customers that were leaving if their ice cream was bad. This was completely unprofessional, he tried to embarrass me, and treated me like a criminal. This man who is in the picture below should not be in customer service and should really check his ice cream machines and make sure they are working properly. Came here because i heard Cinnabon was part of the nurses' appreciation week and they were giving away free cinnabon roll with your hospital ID. I called ahead of time and they were participating so I went to get my free roll. Even though the place is only a few blocks away from my apartment, i haven't been to this location. I grew up eating these cinnabon rolls but the last time i had one was probably 20 years ago when my family used to go to the mall during the weekends. Anyway, the guy working the counter was very friendly and I didn't have problem getting my free and super huge cinnabon roll. I also noticed they are together with carvel and saw they had soft serve ice creams. They have mint!! That is a big deal to me. I am forever looking for mint soft serve ice cream. My regular is kids cup Rocky Road for $2.25 - lots of crushed peanuts and marshmallows mixed into a pretty decent chocolate ice cream. Clean and family friendly. I LOVED this place. Reminded me of Brooklyn thirty years ago with bustling crowds on the street and honking horns. I got the Nutella ice cream (YUM) and I bought a 4 pack of giant Cinnabons (steaming fresh YUM) AND i GOT two Cinnabon ice cream DASHERS OMG they were so good. I was in heaven. It was my husband's birthday and I wanted to surprise him with a cake. I was going to bake a cake but I realize it's not economical because there's only two of us and we can never finish the batch and rest goes stale and to waste. So I decided why not an ice cream cake because they definitely last longer in the freezer and couldn't think of any better place to get them besides Carvel. Carvel has a lot of ready-made cakes and it just so happens that they have the Finding Dory theme cake since the movie is coming out. However, they also have Finding Nemo option that's in their catalog but not ready-made. Personally, I wanted Finding Nemo because it absolutely means something for my husband ( we have two clown fish that he adores ) and knew it would be a perfect cake. I asked one of the staff if they have the Finding Nemo theme cake available and she said no but she said she can simply just replace the decorations on the Finding Dory with Finding Nemo. Brilliant! After 10 minutes or so, the decorator did everything I asked and it was indeed the perfect cake! And yay for the crunchies! read more
