Irish soda bread yesterday was somehow missing an ingredient because it was flat, dense and dry! For 3 tiny connolis $5. that doesn't make sense, to much for minis! I stopped by and bought, what I think, was the last piece of carrot cake [$5]. It was actually really light and not overly sweet. There's a perfect amount of cream cheese frosting on top and in the layers. The raisins were juicy and tart. This cake was really amazing. Bay Ridge Bakery is the epitome of an old school Brooklyn bakery. Lots of neon florescent lighting and display cases of butter cookies and cake. There's also a whole section devoted to gluten free goods. I would love to have another slice of carrot cake..not right now but sometime soon. read more

This place has had a chokehold on me since 2018 when I had a bite of their Chocolate Mousse cake. I have been coming here religiously for years. This bakery is an absolute local gem. I will drive out of my way to get a cake from them on a special occasion if I have to. The pastries are to die for. Presentation is beautiful and professional with cute chocolate buttons and glaze. The taste of everything is amazing and the sweets are not too expensive. This is a classic bakery with very high quality cakes. My favorite bakery in Bay Ridge! I love this place. My belt doesn't but I do. The deserts here are always so good. I never bring these pastries somewhere where I don't hear "Oh that's good!" You really can't go wrong here with a choice, and you have plenty of choice. I've never had a problem with the service. The women at the register are always nice knowledgeable, and help you out. This reminds me of the bakeries I grew up with in the city. Nice local people who know what they're doing, good food, and like the radio set to the oldies station in the background. I purchased a few items here on my CC for $12.20, the person at the counter actually accidentally charged my card twice. Once for 12.20 and 14.80, when I brought it to there attention, they said it would drop off. However the amount was put through. I'm sure if they fraudulently charged me 14.80 they do it to lots of people. As far of the baked goods, they are nothing special, dry cookies, bland cream. Save yourself the hassle. read more

I'm updating my review, unfortunately from 5 stars to 1 star. I honestly don't know what went wrong with this bakery but something happened and their cakes are not the same anymore. I've always loved their Black Forest cake and I tried several other cakes and they were all really good and moist and just had the right amount of buttercream that made the cake so delicious. A couple of months ago I was nearby so I went in and ordered a black forest as always, when I got back home and tried it, the cake was dry and definitely has been in the fridge for so long and wasn't fresh. The next day, the leftovers of that cake smelled weird, rotten or something, I threw it away and didn't enjoy the whole thing. I thought oh well, maybe cuz of COVID they are not baking daily as the demand is not high. Yesterday was my son's birthday and I went there a day before and pre-ordered a cake, informed the employee who's working there that my last experience was awful and cake was dry , " please make sure that it'll be baked fresh and it's moist" she told me not to worry and took my order. In the birthday party, when we cut the cake and I tried it, I was soooo disappointed of how DRY the cake was! It's for sure not fresh and not baked for this occasion though I pre-ordered a day before! Also their buttercream filling was waaaay buttery (if that's a word) that you can't eat it, I had to throw a lot of the filling as you feel you're eating raw butter (noticed the guests did the same as well) because it's way too much! It was my turn to bring the sweets. We had a playdate, and this time we were invited to Katie's place. Originally stopped by Monaco's but found out they were closed on Mondays, so immediately went on Yelp to look for another resort and found Bay Ridge Bakery. Didn't see any labels of the cakes and sweets in the counter so I picked with my eyes. The Strawberry Cheesecakes were decadent. There was an orange flavored cake that was very refreshing. The chocolate slice was rich. I also got a round shaped cake, or was it more of a cookie, not too sure but it was sure ex-creamy good. As my boyfriend was exiting the car to pick out his own 25th birthday cake, he asked me if I wanted to share in a cheesecake cake or something else. I knowing this was his day to choose, (sometimes I can be greedy) I said get anything you want. Well, he did...but I was in mind in the decision making without being present. He bought a red velvet cake. Now, we've been trying to find the best there is, and honestly, this was incredibly light! Although it was not my favorite (see my review of Penelope) it really did try to deliver. It was moist and was presented beautifully - the way all cake should. I love their truffles! However, they don't always sell them. I also like their tiramisu, other than that I would say that their pastries are decent. If you have a sweet tooth and just looking to satisfy a craving then you won't be disappointed. As for me, I usually come here to look for the truffles and if they don't have it I don't buy anything. I brought selection of goodies to share with my gluten free family from Gluten Free Gloriously / Bay Ridge Bakery. Pictured here are the cannoli, lemon bar, and cookie dough cupcake. While the cannoli was delicious, I can only eat half of one as it's very rich as a cannoli should be. The cupcake was light and simple, highlighting the yummy cookie dough dollop. We all agreed that the lemon bars were our favorite of the bunch. Perfect for summer or year round. They were all readily available in the frozen case in the Bay ridge location. Also they recently announced that they have kosher certification through Earth Kosher so now more people can share my joy. read more

Oh, and because things weren't labeled, I can't really tell you exactly what I got. There were these little raspberry tarts topped with almond slivers, which were good. Got some baklava (or something similar), which were absolutely too sweet. Got a "fruit" Napoleon (that costs $1 more than the regular Napoleon) that just had a few tiny specs of canned fruit inside (but was otherwise good). Got some sort of pastry that they told me was "filled with cream", but it was more custardy. Also got some fresh baked sesame breadsticks and almond biscotti, which were both really good. We went there specifically for their German chocolate cake for my co-workers bday. The cake was different from any other German chocolate cake. The coconut pecan were in side the cake instead of sprinkle on top. Nevertheless she said it was delish and taste just like the ones she had when she was in Texas. I have been living in Bay Ridge for a while, and unfortunately I haven't been to Bay Ridge Bakery before. It was my birthday yesterday and my sister purchased a chocolate mousse cake and brought it over. Oh. My. God The cake didn't last the night, it was so fresh and spongy and moist, and the mousse was absolutely silk-like. It had pieces of chocolate inside as well - I can't begin to describe how divine it was. I also loved the little chocolate mice on the cake and that they spelled my name right! (THANK YOU) Due to this fantastic experience, I am planning to go and get a BIGGER cake, because life is short, I'm past the point of caring about a diet with this kind of cake around, and I am not exaggerating when I say that this cake is NOT to be missed. A solid affordably priced local favorite bakery. My personal favorite is the strawberry shortcake, but everything I've had so far, has been good. On some days, pastries can be a bit too sweet depending on who is in the kitchen, but they are all yummy and the presentation is very appetizing. Upon entering this house of sweets, you quickly soon find that the excitement in your eyes does not translate over to your taste buds. I tried a few individual slices of cake and found them to be too sweet. The strawberry shortcake had strawberry jam in the middle instead of actually fresh strawberries. This was a bit shocking to me (since this place is supposed to be a neighborhood institution). The only other time in my life I've seen strawberry jam in the middle of shortcake would have been at a diner or from the frozen food section of a supermarket.
