Carvel Ice Cream was born in 1934 on Memorial Day when Tom Carvel's ice cream truck got a flat tire in Hartsdale, New York so he pulled over to sell his slightly melted ice cream and everyone loved it. It gave him the inspiration to serve soft ice cream at a fixed location. In 1936 Tom Carvels' no air, super low temperature ice cream was patented and in 1937 he opened his first shop in Hartsdale, New York. In 1947 it was the first retail ice cream shop in America to franchise. By 1951 there were 100 shops and they introduced their iconic Flying Saucer ice cream. They also known for their Fudgie the Whale ice cream cake which celebrated their 40th birthday in 2017. Today Carvel is owned by Focus Brands. As of 2022 there are 358 Carvel Franchises worldwide, 326 which are in the U.S. Their motto is "America's Freshest Ice Cream." This Carvel is located at the Shoppes at Heron Lakes in Coral Springs near the entrance to the Sawgrass Expressway. I don't see a Carvel very often but this one was located in the shopping plaza where my girlfriend and I had dinner so we walked over after for dessert and memories. I had a Carvel down the street from where I grew up in New Jersey and often ate their ice cream with my family and Flying Saucers at school events. I haven't been in Carvel since I moved to Florida but the minute I walked in the door all of the childhood feels came flooding back. There were the Flying Saucers, Fudgy the Whale in two sizes, and the weird looking Cookie Puss in the case staring back at me. Carvel is famous for using only a few cake mold shapes. They only change the cake decorations, not the shape so they can be a bit strange. They also serve hard and soft serve ice cream and shakes. It was pure nostalgia. I ended up ordering a chocolate chip mint cup topped with hot fudge and the ice ream melted on contact with the fudge spilling it over the sides of the cup. It was a mess which is why I didn't take a picture. I don't actually prefer my ice cream soft so next time I would grab one of the cones from the freezer case. Personally it was worth coming in just for the memories.

I've gone a few times and they didn't have what I wanted or their machines were down. Otherwise they're doing a great job and the staff is always friendly and helpful. Not pushy, but not bothered. The ice cream has always been great and delicious m the inside is clean. The music is relaxing to listen to while you enjoy your treat. I work close by so I enjoy coming here for a break.

    Melted ice cream

They either have a problems with the fridge, or something else, but all ice cream is melted and frozen again which is dangerous to eat as bacterias grow! And they have snow everywhere in the freezer! Bad service also. Very disappointed and don't recommend!

Since when does a banana split only has choice of two flavors of ice cream instead of three ? and they want to call it a Banana Barge ! And to top it off it was a hot mess !! Will not be going there again .

Thank God for Carvel. After 15 plus months of this horrific thing, it's the simple stuff that makes your day that much better. And there is nothing better on this planet then a BOGO WEDNESDAY SUNDAE at Carvel. Mic freakin' drop.

Having an ice cream shop right next to the gym can be dangerous, it's even more dangerous when the ice cream is Carvel. I've had many Carvel cakes for various birthdays of coworkers and whatnot but they've always been from Publix, never from the actual location. I decided to check out the actual shop (yes after the gym) and see what the experience was like. The shop itself is nice, not really showy for an ice cream parlor. I kind of always envisioned it to have a lot going on, but it was nice, simple, easy-to-read menu and had very friendly employees. I got a simple swirl (chocolate and vanilla) in a cup, no cone. I'm saving calories... I paid almost five bucks for the medium and the portion size was decent, not huge but again it was a medium. I did think I paid a little more than I should for what took what seemed like seconds to devour. The ice cream is so smooth and creamy. It's probably one of the best soft serve ice creams I have had. That being said, I still think the price was a tad bit high. There are some tables inside and out for you to enjoy your post-workout treat (oh that's just me). They also sell their famous cakes here too. It's going to be hard not to want to come in here before and after every workout. Stay strong.

Our favorite treat! Carvel has the best soft serve, we get a twist come covered in crunchies sooo good!!

It's packed with old memorabilia and collectibles, which I'm sure a lot of people enjoy, but for me it made the place feel smaller than it really is. The ice cream was very good, although I wouldn't say they had an overwhelming number of flavors. Still, there was enough variety to find something you'd like. Then again, who doesn't like good ice cream? Even though the place was busy, we had no problem finding a seat. The service was excellent, and the staff was friendly. When you serve a good product, a crowd comes with it. Overall, I enjoyed it, but I wouldn't call it a home run. I'm not sure if it's somewhere I'd go back to on a regular basis, but I'm glad I tried it. I had thought about taking a younger person there for a birthday, but I think they'd probably have more fun at Jaxson's in Dania Beach. The atmosphere there is more my style. Overall, good ice cream, excellent service, just a little too crowded and cluttered for my taste.

Staff seemed like they were there just for their paychecks, and not really caring for the customer service or offering their opinion or recommendations, the night we visited there was a good amount of patrons. There's seating off the right side of the shop and a few towards the back. They have a very wide selection of ice cream flavors. I settled for a dulce deleche, and it was just ok. We ordered that, and I took some pictures and left. The interior was too much for me, personally. Way too much going on.

Maybe there aren't a lot of ice cream shops in Coral Springs and so this has become the go-to spot, it's obviously better than supermarket ice cream, but I can't see it as a destination.

The Magic Cow in Coral Springs has a 4.8-star Yelp rating, and their sister store in Davie is apparently one of the top 10 ice cream shops in the entire United States. So naturally, I had to see if the local legend lived up to the hype. (Spoiler: it did. And then some.) The moment we walked in, I was hit with that nostalgic mix of sugar, laughter, and magic that says you're about to make a very good life decision. The owner greeted us like old friends -- warm, funny, and clearly passionate about what he does. You can tell every scoop that leaves that counter has been crafted with pride. Now, about the ice cream. I went with the Carrot Cake flavor -- and let me tell you, it wasn't just ice cream; it was an experience. Folded into it were ribbons of caramel and bits of pie crust that somehow made me rethink all my previous dessert choices in life. One bite in, and I'm pretty sure I saw colors brighter than usual. My wife went for a combo of Better Batter Cake Carnival and Chocolate Batter Better, and to call it "excellent" would be an understatement. This flavor pairing was pure joy in stereo. I'm pretty sure she stopped listening to me talk for a good five minutes, which is the ultimate compliment to any dessert. Bottom line: The Magic Cow isn't just living up to its reputation -- it's churning out happiness, one scoop at a time. If you haven't been, fix that immediately. Your taste buds will thank you, your diet will forgive you (eventually), and your inner child will do a happy dance.

Frozen custard is what happens when ice cream decides to get serious about its career…read more That was the mood at Whit's Frozen Custard in Coral Springs when my wife and I stopped in and both landed on the blackberry chip flavor of the day. I went with a cup, she chose the waffle cone, which turned out to be the smarter move because that crisp cone with the rich custard was a perfect combo. The first thing that stands out is the texture. This stuff is dense, rich, and incredibly full. Every bite feels smooth and substantial, the kind of frozen dessert that makes regular ice cream seem like it's just winging it. It's deliciously refreshing, but it also has that heavy, creamy body that makes you slow down and actually enjoy it. The blackberry chip was very good, but if I'm being honest, I wanted the berry flavor to hit just a little louder. I've had blackberry ice cream before that really let the fruit sing, and this one felt a little more restrained. Still tasty, still refreshing, just missing that extra berry punch that could have pushed it into five-star territory. Halfway through mine, I actually said, "This texture could make vanilla exciting." That's how good the custard base is here. I also got a taste of the cookies and cream, and that may have stolen a little bit of the spotlight. Creamy, balanced, and loaded with cookie flavor, it instantly became the one I'm eyeing for next time. The place itself is simple, which honestly works in its favor. No frills, no giant menu maze, just vanilla, chocolate, and two flavors of the day made fresh and rotated daily. Checking the calendar ahead of time almost becomes part of the ritual, like seeing what surprise is waiting for you. The staff was friendly, the whole stop was easy, and even with wanting a bit more berry flavor, this was still a really enjoyable dessert run. Easy four stars. Some places wow you with spectacle. Thanks to the reviewers, we made the right choice! However, I drove 2 businesses past the shop and had to back up a little to park haha, because the sign on the shop is simply "Bakery". The signage on the window is the only indicator that you found the right place. The shop is essentially a cake bakery on the left, ice cream shop on the right when you walk in. There is no room for seating, but there are 2 sets of tables and chairs outside. The gentleman who mans the shop (the only person who does so) had that dry humor that made him fun to speak to. I asked what the Superman ice cream flavor was, and he answered, "It's only for kids." He told us the Captain Rum Raisin was the product of him trying to make rum raisin with several different kinds of rum, and the feedback he received was that the one with Captain Morgan was the best, so he makes it with that now. I had to try it, then subsequently get a scoop of it. The Captain Rum Raisin had just the right amount of creaminess, raisin and sweet rum flavor. You can get half scoops of ice cream after 1 scoop, so I had a half scoop of Cookie Monster, which is cookies and cream ice cream with a refreshingly aggressive blue coloring. The owner told us to get the Cookie Monster in a cup rather than a cone since it will stain if it melts and drips. It definitely turned our tongues that exact blue color! The ice cream itself was delicious as well, creamy, cookie tastic and not sugar loaded. You can only pay with cash or Zelle (if the owner likes you enough to tell you his number and name). This is so that the owner can avoid card transition device subscriptions and fees, and he can keep his prices low, which by the way, are definitely low for the quality of ice cream he offers! He was extremely nice and made for good conversation. In the end, my partner and my daughter both had Cookie Monster in their cup, and she topped hers off with their Rum Raisin, while I had a Cookie Monster Milkshake. This franchise of Uncle Louie G's opened in April on Sample Rd in the same plaza as Runyon's. It is owned by Andrea Mormile and her sister, Denise from Brooklyn, New York. The sisters were inspired to open Uncle Louie G's when they couldn't find the kind of icy treats they grew up on. They also sell ice cream cakes, milkshakes, smoothies, ice coffees, Belgian waffle sundaes, and ice cream nachos. For quality control everything's made in Staten Island, New York. They use the best ingredients like real fruit for Italian ice instead of sugar and artificial flavoring. The premium ice cream is 14 percent butterfat and the cheesecake pieces are made from scratch. Ice cream flavors included Louie Big Blue, Brooklyn Cheesecake, and Apple Pie while Italian ice flavors included Oreo cookie dough, chocolate jelly ring, cherry chip, and Italian Dream. I was in the mood for ice and I sampled the cannoli, honey doo, and spumoni. I ended up choosing the spumoni but they were all great. I was impressed with how spot on the flavors tasted. I am still thinking about the honey doo. Sizes come in Brooklyn small ($3.50), small ($4.00), medium ($6.00), and large ($8.00). You can also purchase pints, quarts, and party buckets.
