Carvel Ice Cream was born in 1934 on Memorial Day when Tom Carvel's ice cream truck got a flat tire in Hartsdale, New York so he pulled over to sell his slightly melted ice cream and everyone loved it. It gave him the inspiration to serve soft ice cream at a fixed location. In 1936 Tom Carvels' no air, super low temperature ice cream was patented and in 1937 he opened his first shop in Hartsdale, New York. In 1947 it was the first retail ice cream shop in America to franchise. By 1951 there were 100 shops and they introduced their iconic Flying Saucer ice cream. They also known for their Fudgie the Whale ice cream cake which celebrated their 40th birthday in 2017. Today Carvel is owned by Focus Brands. As of 2022 there are 358 Carvel Franchises worldwide, 326 which are in the U.S. Their motto is "America's Freshest Ice Cream." This Carvel is located at the Shoppes at Heron Lakes in Coral Springs near the entrance to the Sawgrass Expressway. I don't see a Carvel very often but this one was located in the shopping plaza where my girlfriend and I had dinner so we walked over after for dessert and memories. I had a Carvel down the street from where I grew up in New Jersey and often ate their ice cream with my family and Flying Saucers at school events. I haven't been in Carvel since I moved to Florida but the minute I walked in the door all of the childhood feels came flooding back. There were the Flying Saucers, Fudgy the Whale in two sizes, and the weird looking Cookie Puss in the case staring back at me. Carvel is famous for using only a few cake mold shapes. They only change the cake decorations, not the shape so they can be a bit strange. They also serve hard and soft serve ice cream and shakes. It was pure nostalgia. I ended up ordering a chocolate chip mint cup topped with hot fudge and the ice ream melted on contact with the fudge spilling it over the sides of the cup. It was a mess which is why I didn't take a picture. I don't actually prefer my ice cream soft so next time I would grab one of the cones from the freezer case. I've gone a few times and they didn't have what I wanted or their machines were down. Otherwise they're doing a great job and the staff is always friendly and helpful. Not pushy, but not bothered. The ice cream has always been great and delicious m the inside is clean. The music is relaxing to listen to while you enjoy your treat. I work close by so I enjoy coming here for a break. read more

Having an ice cream shop right next to the gym can be dangerous, it's even more dangerous when the ice cream is Carvel. I've had many Carvel cakes for various birthdays of coworkers and whatnot but they've always been from Publix, never from the actual location. I decided to check out the actual shop (yes after the gym) and see what the experience was like. The shop itself is nice, not really showy for an ice cream parlor. I kind of always envisioned it to have a lot going on, but it was nice, simple, easy-to-read menu and had very friendly employees. I got a simple swirl (chocolate and vanilla) in a cup, no cone. I'm saving calories... I paid almost five bucks for the medium and the portion size was decent, not huge but again it was a medium. I did think I paid a little more than I should for what took what seemed like seconds to devour. The ice cream is so smooth and creamy. It's probably one of the best soft serve ice creams I have had. That being said, I still think the price was a tad bit high. There are some tables inside and out for you to enjoy your post-workout treat (oh that's just me). They also sell their famous cakes here too. It's going to be hard not to want to come in here before and after every workout. Stay strong. read more

Located in a large shopping plaza and it's a favorite spot for my kids after a dinner out. This Carvel has been at this location since this plaza opened around 2004 ish. I am honestly asking for your opinions. I had the family out to the Carvel on Coral Ridge Dr. It is for special occasions because I am a family of 6 and to get out of Carvels for less than $25 is impossible. We got there at 8:30, there was a long line, but our guy was patient and kind, so I tipped him $3 in cash. Fast forward 25 minutes, it is 9pm, it has started raining and the place is empty. My 5 year old wanted ONE CHERRY. I sent her up to the counter to practice asking for things herself. I heard her say "Please may I have a cherry, please." I was very proud to hear her actually use the words we have been training her to use; so she must have REALLY wanted that ONE CHERRY. I then hear her ask again, and then again. My wife gives me a look, so I walked over to the counter. I then ask him for ONE CHERRY please? This is where I need your honest opinion. He told me he would not give me ONE CHERRY. He explained that he would not charge me for ONE CHERRY, but he would sell me an entire topping portion of CHERRIES. I do not know how many that would be and I do not know what that would cost. I said, no thank you. May I please have just ONE CHERRY? As I am talking to this guy I'm looking around at the other workers and they are giving me the "this guy is crazy but I can't say anything because I'm afraid I'll lose my job" look. So this guy must a manager there! He wears dark rimmed glasses and a black hat & shirt. Has anyone else had a similar experience at this Carvel? Does anyone know the owner? I drive all the way from Pembroke Pines up to Parkland and make it one of my stops while in the area! Absolutely love carvel they have the best soft serve I've been able to find down here in Florida and it just reminds me of home growing up in Jersey! Ice cream is good, especially the soft serve. The location is convenient with plenty of parking. The only negative is that the owner is here often, working behind the counter. That would usually be a good thing, but this owner never smiles and often just looks upset. Combine the owners demeanor with his desire to charge customers for every extra he possibly can, and you generally leave with a negative overall experience. Unfortunately, there isn't another location close by, so if you like Carvel ice cream, you may be stuck with this one. read more

HORRIBLE SERVICE. I didn't get a chance to even try the ice cream. I was on my way into the gym and noticed the ice cream place right next door... decided to walk in and check it out, bc my daughter LOVESSSSS Icecream and what better place to go than a place right beside where we live... I had never been to a Carvel ice cream place before, only have gotten the food from Publix stores. We went here after going to the falafel bar, and I got a small ice cream and a waffle cone. It didn't taste like anything spectacular, it was okay... My fiancé got the chocolate milkshake, which tasted like liquid chocolate crunchies, so that was really nice. This place is solid. I mean, it's Carvel! Aside from the awesomely delicious birthday cakes, and the take-home flying saucers, they have great ice cream and shakes, too. They're conveniently located a few doors down from Pasquale's pizza place, so it's not more than a hop, skip and a jump away from making it a pizza & ice cream day (which are the best kind of days). It's also mockingly situated next door to the gym, which is just funny to think about while you're gobbling down some dairy (or sad, I'm not sure yet). They switch up the flavors sometimes, and that was one thing that caught me off guard. My favorite flavor (Swiss Miss Chocolate) was suddenly removed! I explained to the girl behind the counter (they're all super nice there, by the way) how much I love that flavor and what I could do to get it back, and she was more than happy to make me a "Swiss Miss Arctic Blender". I said I'd try it, and WOW, was it good! I will probably be getting that every time I go there now. Apparently they keep Swiss Miss stocked there, and while they had stopped serving the ice cream flavor, they were definitely able to whip something up using the Swiss Miss. What a fantastic idea. The kids love the sprinkle tower, which is basically a machine that stretches from the floor to the ceiling that contains every different color sprinkle in it. All you have to do is hold your ice cream (or really, anything) under your chosen sprinkle color, and pull the lever to watch that magical shower of sugary pellets that somehow just makes everything better. It's also fun to quickly sweep your ice cream under all of the colors and pull each lever as you walk by (it's okay, you won't spill... there's a catch tray ;). The only thing that would make this place better is if the employees would sing when you tip them, like another unnamed ice cream chain (*ahem*). That's always fun. read more

Just the smell of the fresh made home made cones calls my attention once you open the door it's a question of which Ice creams presented on the picture you want, my personal advice is to go with the hard ice cream instead of the ones produce by the machine, the hard ice cream has a much richer flavor. As I mention before on my tip, Sprinkles are free and as much as you want my 6 year old daughter loves this Ice cream place. By the way now they are offering frequent buyer card which makes more sense to come often. read more

Gotta give Carvel at least 4 stars because, well, its Carvel, and Carvel is super yummy. However, the service at this location is beyond bad. Young employees don't seem to care that the bathroom had no toilet paper. When I mentioned that there has ice cream all over the floor in front of the register, I was told "Yeah, that happens a lot". Unfortunately, nothing was done a out either situation in the 45 minutes we were there. Giving it another try, this time in the daytime, the grown man (possibly owner or manager) couldnt even muster a smile. No hello, no thank you, no goodbye...nothing! The manager, Alex, was rude. Refused to replace a flavor because I took a bite of it and didn't like it. We asked a second time if he would be willing to give us a replacement and he refused again.
