I hadn't been to a Carvel in probably almost 30 years. I didn't even realize they were still open as we dont have them in Orange County. Came here last night 4/16/25 and experienced Excellent service and absolutely delicious Sundae Dasher with mint chip hard ice cream and chocolate soft serve. The carvel cake crumbles in it were to die for! It was like having an ice cream cake in a cup! The hot fudge was delicious and for how much ice cream I got and toppings, it was well worth the price. Other ice cream bars around charge just as much for a large soft serve cone with just sprinkles. This was worth every penny for how creamy it was and that it didn't just melt down on me into soup like ice cream from elsewhere. The man who seemed to be the manager or owner was very helpful and the young man who worked the register who seemed to be still training he gave an excellent customer service experience and was very attentive!! Okay. I LOVE Carvel!! The product is great!!! All of their ice cream is delicious!!! I have no issues with the ice cream. Now, let's talk about the staff. The staff is amazing! Super friendly and kind. Tonight it seemed that family was helping out. The Owner has a major chip on his shoulder! I called ahead to have writing put on a birthday cake and he said no he would do it when I came in. I got there and put the $40 cake and extras on the counter and he says no credit cards meanwhile there are signs everywhere saying they accept them. He said the internet was down which was a lie so cash only. I said ok so I guess I have to go to the atm? He said yes and was extremely rude but the closest atm was out of service so I drove 23 minutes away to the next nearest store. Definitely not giving him my business. read more

Every time I go in this location and the owner is there, I always say I will never go back. I am happy when his lovely young employees are there instead. He is not very friendly at all, and makes the products cheaply. Paying $9 for a dasher, it should be quite filled and not skimpy. I noticed the bad reviews here are mostly about the rude owner and high prices for a low quality product. I'm sure at one time, their was a "nice person" working there (probably a wife or daughter of the owner). Most of the time when a business get's a bad Yelp review, a family member or friend comes to the rescue. You very rarely get an honest review anymore. I believe the most honest reviews are the poor service ones. If someone likes their visit, they usually just give a thumbs up or a full star rating. However, when someone raves about a business, I truely believe its fake and 100% intented for damage control to balance the honesty of customers treated poorly. If you don't want a poor rating, treat every customer like gold, every visit no matter how your day is going. Maybe if you get a bad review you can appoligize and ask them to come back and you will personally make it right. However, if you really don't give a crap about your customers because you are the only Carvel in the area and you think people will still come because of that, guess again. Carvel icecream is delicious. However, this particular location is the worst I have ever experienced. There is only one employee each time I visit and they never seem capable. Their attitudes make you never want to go back. I was refused a refund/ or exchange for a product that tasted very bad after having one spoon of it. The worker complains that I should have asked to try it first. If this was policy at the store, SIGNAGE needs to be posted before refusing a customer of a regular incident. Their needs to be new management here ASAP. They also put their open spoons on a dirty counter before handing it to you to be used. Super unsanitary!! read more

We went for soft serve on a hot day and got ripped off. My folks used to take us to Carvel when we were kids and who ever owns it now is clearly ripping off their customers: $5 for a cone which is mostly padded with air. Could you imagine taking your kids here and spending $20+ for a few cones? Neither can we. There are plenty of other places around town to enjoy a cone at much lower prices. read more

I am disappointed at the reviews on here. It is a completely unfair representation of this particular location, and have to provide an accurate review of my countless experiences here. The owner, in my experiences over the years (too many to count, at least 1x a month for years), has never been rude. He is pleasant, courteous, and is beyond accomodating. He gave me a discount on 2 sundaes in the middle of winter when it wasn't even Wednesday. I can imagine that he, as well as the other staff, may get a bit quick with people if they take too long ordering or if they don't keep the order in the place. Perhaps people take that as rude, but as someone who worked the ice cream counter at a local Stewart's during my college years, those that aren't ready to order when it's their turn should step aside. Point blank. I've ordered many custom cakes from here, got some saucers, and many other treats (sundaes, cones). Never had a complaint... in fact, this is my preferred ice cream stop. I'm never dissapointed in Carvel, and this will always be my go-to shop as long as I live in lower Dutchess county. read more

We live close by and our kids like the cakes, but whenever we go in we have to hear the owner complain that he has no good help. The last time I was there he pretty much did everything he could to NOT sell me a cake. The order was for a Monday and I said I could pick it up at 2 on Monday, because the store's sign says it opens at 2 on Mondays. He said he might not be open until 3 because he has no workers to open so maybe I should pick it up at his Hopewell store. If I wanted to hear excuses, I would watch a Lindsey Vonn post-race interview. I wanted a cake special ordered, and that was apparently not happening. My father and I went in to get three things of ice cream. I got a small soft serve with a chocolate dip. It took the girl working there ten minutes just to make two soft serves, and by the time i got it it was mostly melted, there was little to no chocolate sauce and the chocolate sauce that i did see was on the outside of the cup because she couldn't pour the chocolate correctly. This is the worst owner of any company I have dealt with. On Tuesday and spoke to a young lady who worked there and made an order for my husband's birthday cake for Sunday in all Vanilla. I explained that I couldn't make it there until 8:30pm and she told me that was fine, they close at 9pm. I then offered to come in and pay in advance and she told me it wasn't necessary. I have ordered my cakes from this store for years and have had several issues. Today around 3pm the owner calls and leaves me a message to return his call as he is confirming my cake and time of pick up. I called him back 5 minutes later. He was rude and kept cutting me off stating I need to pick the cake up no later than 8pm. I explained that we are having dinner first which is not local and that's why I couldn't make it there till 8:30pm. He told me he didn't care and he would just sell the cake to someone else. He kept raising his voice at me and then hung up on me. I called Dairy Queen in Wappingers Falls and they told me they callus complete the order by tomorrow and have it ready for 8:30pm. I called the owner back and told him to sell the cake to someone else and Dairy Queen will now have my business. As usual he hung up on me! read more

My cousin always sends my daughters Carvel gift cards for their birthdays and this owner, who also owns the Carvel in Hopewell Junction apparently, mysteriously seems to have a problem with his credit card machine when I try to pay with one of the cards. I have tried three times to use one of my gift cards in both Pougkeepsie and Hopewell and was given the same story. The owner is also NOT friendly and makes you beg for a lousy napkin. There is always only one person working and a line out the door. I will NEVER return to either shop for ice cream again. Taking your children for ice cream should be enjoyable and should not end with this kind of stress and someone insulting my intelligence. Carvel corporate is going to hear about this because they are not playing by the rules with this gift card business and saying their machine is broken. If it's still broken after two or three months, (the span of time I'm talking about) then fix it! read more
