Our 1st time at Poughkeepsie Steakhouse. Service was great, our waitress was attentive, answered questions about the food, friendly & professional. The restaurant, which we were familiar with when it was the HobNobbin bar & grill, was nicely decorated. Tables were quite close together. Most importantly, food was good. My Tomahawk steak was done as I requested. Had more gristle around it than I would have liked. Made a 34 ounce steak a lot smaller. But meat was tasty. As expected at a steakhouse, entrees were pricey, my steak was $63, came w/ choice of potato, salad, & roasted veggies. Overall a good experience. read more

It must have been and off, off, off night! Let me tell you, about the GOOD, the BAD AND the UGLY!! THE GOOD! The place is very pretty and not noisy, you can hold a nice conversation. The staff is lovely and helpful, delicious bread and butter was brought to the table as well as our drinks right away. Now for the BAD! The Caesar salad was just ok! Our main courses were far from beeing appetizing My husband had the Boneless Ribeye with Caramelized onions ( $2.00 extra) it was so fatty to the point of almost being inedible , see the pictures. I had the Flank Steak. It was cook to perfection medium rare, unfortunately it lack taste, had to add salt and pepper. The veggies had no taste and were under cook. I went to dinner tonight along with 7 other people. We had a wonderful time. The eight of us enjoyed seven different entrees which included 3 steak entrees and everyone raved about their meals. Our orders from the bar came out timely and while one of us had an issue with a wine selection it was addressed quickly and with a smile. We finished our meal sharing three desserts which were also delightful. A special thanks to our waitress, Jenna, for anticipating our needs without being obtrusive. We will certainly return. Overall, we had a really nice meal here for our first visit on Saturday night. I made a reservation online a few days ahead for 6:30 pm. We arrived a few minutes late, waited a few minutes for the hostess and wee told it would be about 15-20 minutes for a table. The restaurant was packed, but I was a bit surprised at having to wait considering we had a reservation, and in my experience, even in a crowded restaurant, a reservation means your table is held for you. I don't blame them for not holding a table open when the entire restaurant was full, I'll just keep that in mind on our next visit and go on a less busy night or make an earlier reservation. Since the restaurant was packed, the noise level was pretty high and service was a little slow all night, but Diane did a great job and it gave us a chance to enjoy our appetizers and drinks before the food came. We got our appetizers around 7:30 followed by our food around 8 pm, so it was not a quick meal since we were there about 2 hours total, but the food was worth it. We started out with the pretzel bites and candied bacon appetizers, both good choices. I wish the pretzels had been a little hotter since they came out lukewarm, but they were tasty and the bacon app more than made up for it. For entrees, my husband ordered the NY strip, I ordered the boneless rib eye (the online menu has a bone-in version, but I didn't see it on the actual menu or specials), and my son picked the Jamison burger. The steaks and sides were good, though I'll never be excited about steamed vegetables, but my mash was well seasoned and creamy, and my son's burger was really flavorful and he loved it. My husband's steak was perfectly cooked but unfortunately my rib eye was closer to medium than mid-rare. They replaced it without issue and provided fresh sides along with my new steak. The replacement was cooked much better, but unfortunately, I was stuffed at that point and had to take most of it home. It tasted just as good the next day. Cocktails are pretty standard, and fairly priced, though we did have to snag a cocktail menu from another table. So overall, the food was pretty good and I'd come back again at a less crowded time. The manager and Diane were really apologetic about my overcooked steak, and they comped us dessert to go, and gave us 2 slices of chocolate cake, which was really appreciated. The cake was fudgy and rich and next time I'll have to save room for the churros. Horrendous, Horrendous, Horrendous. Everything about our visit was terrible. We had a reservation for 7pm, and it took about 20 minutes for our table. When we were seated, it took about 25 minutes for them to bring bread and water. Mind you, there were 5 people at our table and enough bread for three. We ordered the french onion soup as an appetizer. It lacked onions and taste. It took about 35 minutes for the soup to come out. We went on a Sunday night and they were out of tomahawk steaks! How is a steakhouse out of steak? They were out of wings and pickles as well. Our prime ribs were ordered medium and it looked as though someone microwaved them. One was so fatty, it just looked completely unappetizing. They both needed to be seasoned. My daughter ordered the flank steak and that looked like roadkill on a plate. She couldn't chew some of the pieces. The side vegetables were steamed and completely unseasoned and very dry. The prices were outrageous. The waitress was terrible and never checked on us. Never came back to refill our drinks or offer any more bread. The only thing good was the wine. Save your money and go any where else. This was the first and last time at this establishment. Ate here last night for the first time & was quite pleased. Located in the former Hobnobbin location, the restaurant has a relaxed, old feel interior ambiance. Service was great & food very good. She had the NY Strip w/Mashed Potatoes and I had the Boneless Ribeye w/Baked Potatoe. We shared a Bang Bang Shrimp appetizer & each had 2 glasses of Pinot Noir. I had the best steak here about a year ago, then the worst steak ever couple of months ago. Not sure if its due to the Sunday night crew or fi this place if falling off. but they should never have served me the steak they did. I ordered it medium, it came out a hockey puck. In between those steaks I've had a couple of other dinners that were ok. Wifes food on all occssisons was ok/ok+. Good service, nice and clean, just wish they were more consistent. read more

It was ok. I really did want to like it more, because a good steakhouse can become a great regular haunt. Service was terrific, and the food wasn't terrible, it was just....ok. The clam chowder was a little gummy, the candied bacon was good for the first 2 or three minutes, but then it got VERY difficult to cut and chew. Fun presentation though. The filet mignon was nice, but the 22 oz. boneless ribeye was (1) definitely not 22 oz. precooked and (2) was VERY thin so you lose the beauty of a thick cut well marbled steak. The potatoes au gratin were very good, and the veggies were well cooked. Maybe we'll try the burgers next time. read more

The Boneless ribeye is legendary for this establishment. Very consistent cooks, where you get the same portion and taste every time you visit. Plus the ambience has a local pub or sports bar feel to it on one side, while the other side is setup like a traditional Italian restaurant. I just moved to the area and had heard this place was good . I went on a Saturday lunch time, and it wasn't that busy. The bartender however was responsible for seating people, taking care of the bar and all other people in the restaurant area. Way too much for one person to take care of considering it was Valentines weekend. She did a wonderful job being short handed ( the only staff there). I was seated at the bar l, and the bartender that came in at 3 didn't even acknowledge us at the bar. After she came in I was never asked by her if I needed anything , apparently she must have been waiting for the original staff that was now taking care of the restaurant to help us. I just wanted to pay my bill. As my bill and credit card sat there on the bar for a while I finally asked her if she can take care of it . Her response was " I am not sure , but I will try'. I have never been told that at a restaurant, I assumed people can work together as they have before at other restaurants I go to . My issue with this place was not the food , it was good , the service was awful. I will never go back as the service lacks staff, and the rude oncoming staff at the bar. read more

Father's Day and either they cannot handle that type of business or they are badly organized. While the service was friendly, it took forever to arrive. After ordering drinks the beer took forever to arrive and we thought it was forgotten. People at a table next to us sent somebody to the bar to get drinks, as they were also not attended to. They eventually left. Probably $ 1,000 in sales lost as it was a large group. After the drink order it took again a long while before getting menus and then being asked what to order. I realize eating out is expensive, however their prices are way too high to match the ambiance, service and Food quality. Food then again took forever to arrive. Nobody checked on us to see if we needed anything else after Food was brought. Portions were good size. Water not refilled. Never asked for refill of sodas to beer. The place is clearly not organized well. The personnel that resets tables is not on the ball and there were not enough Waiters /waitresses to take care of the guests. They are leaving a lot of money on the table by not serving food within a reasonable time and could sell the same table Many times over. Let's shut down this place. If I could give zero stars I would. Don't come here! We had a reservation for 5 pm. We were told the wait would be 5-10 minutes. At 5:30, my husband politely inquired if we would be seated soon or if we should leave. We were seated at 5:30. But after 15 minutes of no service or acknowledgment (no menus, water, bread) we just stood up and left and told the man this was unacceptable. We have been to many steakhouses and to get this poor service was shocking. We will find another steakhouse and I hope this one closes. Take your business elsewhere. read more

So I picked this place from online reviews. We were headed to the area to spend the day and decided to have an early dinner before driving home. It was absolutely awesome. I had the Tbone steak and my husband had the boneless ribeye. Both were cooked perfectly as requested. Medium. The sides were delicious and I have to say the bulb of roasted garlic was a wonderful surprise and to die for! I would go back to the area just to go to this restaurant. Service was great and the owner stopped by our table to see how things were. We went at 4:30 and they opened at 4p so it was quiet when we got there. By the time we left it was packed ( a Saturday night). I definitely recommend trying it out if you're in the area! read more

It's taking a while for someone else to serve food as good as the old Hobnobbin. I've been living in the area for about 14 years and have seen this restaurant change concepts a couple of times after hobnobbin closed. Don't get me wrong, the former place was suffering from serious deferred maintenance but they did deliver a delicious burger. Current ambience: A historic charm: Old photographs, quirky paintings, wonderfully uneven hardwood floors and straightforward charm with that familiar stone fireplace. SERVICE: We arrived on a Tuesday night around 8 o'clock after coming in from the New Hamburg train station and craved a real food night. Isabella, our server, was pleasant and personable. Her recommendation for the flank steak was spot on. So my son and I shared the following: flank steak with mashed potatoes and broccoli, boneless wings with barbecue, and Broccoli and cheddar soup and an order of french fries. Neither of us was drinking so lemon water was our choice. THE FOOD: The first indication that this was going to be a good meal was that the lemon wedges were fresh. We were surprised to be served a warm mini loaf of ciabatta and butter. Butter was served in an odd way in tiny little cubes. Totally unnecessary, but otherwise was the perfect temperature for spreading. The soup was a disappointment. Although it was clearly made from fresh Broccoli, the color was that dingy grayish green that was quite unappealing. Not recommended. The boneless wings were freshly fried and tossed in a generous amount of barbecue sauce. The sauce was not tangy enough, slightly spicy, and a little sweet. Perhaps another flavor next time. We ordered the steak medium rare. It was delivered hot and fresh with an excellent crust and perfectly seasoned. Unfortunately it was over cooked two medium well which definitely lost a star. We didn't send it back because we were both hungry and the outside flavor was so good that we decided it made up for the big error in temperature. I only hoped that Isabella had checked in on us after we were served the steak so we would have had the opportunity to be offered a replacement at the correct temperature The portions were generous and the price is definitely in line with a good meal in a good restaurant. We packed up the leftovers and were that another two meals worth of food was going home with us. DISAPPOINTMENTS:is the use of these horrible plastic clamshell takeout containers. They lose another half a star for that. There's no reason to be using those containers anymore colon they leak and they're very bad for our environment. All in all, atmosphere four -1/2 a star for the horrible finish on the tables which felt sticky. It's worthwhile to either refinish those immediately with a nice dark finish and no acrylic or replace them. Food earned a very solid 4 1/2 stars but I had to deduct a star because my steak was overcooked. Service was pleasant and professional but we could've been checked in on sooner, especially given the late hour. We had to wait a while for our check.. I mentioned to her that the steak was a great flavor but over cooked and she shared with me that the chef did not cook the meal. That was clear. No offer was made to offer a dessert or anything as a concession. We would not have accepted it but it would have been a proper gesture. We had a generous half starback because the overall experience was really good, especially for a Tuesday night and we felt that the cost of the meal was very good, under $50 for a lovely, scratch-made meal. read more

I've frequented this restaurant a number of times. Great bar and bartenders. A while back I had an unsatisfactory Porterhouse but didn't complain. My wife and I went last night and mentioned it to the owner. He picked out a Porterhouse that was enough for 3 people. Totally made up for the prior experience. All the food we had was perfectly cooked, from the clam chowder, to the salad, baked potato, creamed spinach and of course the Porterhouse. Highly recommended. read more

Had dinner here before, everything was spot on, made reservation the first week on December for new year's eve, we get there and was told there was a wait, a few minutes later a party of 5 comes in and gets a table in 5 minutes....I ask the hostess how long the wait will be and she reply's 20-25 min so I tell her my wife and I will be at the bar to please notify us when our table will be ready, she agrees, 30 min goes by.....I see another party of 4 that just came in get a table within 5 min....so I ask the clueless hostess again about our table and she had no answer....If you looked at her long enough you could see the bubbles popping over the top of her head.....we left and found a better place to dine.....will never be eating there again and I'll make sure I let everyone I know about my experience, so they don't waste their time at this place ! read more

We went there on a Friday evening and that is the only mistake we've made. It is extremely loud on busy nights. So loud that you have to be louder just to have a conversation. The food was great and they have the best mashed potatoes I ever tasted. The wine was good. The service was good. We had out of town family in for Easter and decided to go to Poughkeepsie Steakhouse for dinner. Everybody really enjoyed their dinners. We had different cuts of steak and the barbecue ribs. Everyone commented on how good the steaks tasted and all were cooked to perfection. The ribs were also extremely good. The service was excellent and we were all happy with our Easter dinners. It is nice to have a comfortable restaurant rather than going to the chain restaurants. read more

The steaks seemed to be good quality but no salt/pepper/butter. Everything was expensive. I can't say I'd be going back. Was excited to try this place since a couple of my friends have had very positive experiences here. I also 100% understand that restaurants are understaffed and overwhelmed during the pandemic. Things may take longer then expected and as long as it's communicated no biggie deal. We sat at 5pm for our reservation, ordered our drinks and food after a few minutes. Drinks came shortly after and she said she would bring bread right over for us to munch on. Fast forward our waitress asking us 30 minutes later if we wanted a refill on our drinks, still haven't received bread. 45 minutes in received bread. Just under an hour in we received our soup and salad. These are items that are ready to go. At least if everything is backed up just communicate it. We waited that long for bread, one slice each. While we were waiting for our meal never offered more bread or any explanation of what's going on. Same waitress helped a table that sat down between 20-30 minutes after us were served their food first. This is once again maybe more of a waitress issue as most people that were waiting were routinely getting service. 6:25, food comes out. Won't criticize the food, but when she dropped it off she ask if there is any sauce that she can get. We asked for steak sauce. 5 minutes... 10 minutes... We look over and she is just having a conversation with a customer, paying zero attention to any tables. My family just went on eating their meals without it. She comes by almost 15 minutes later after not saying she was sorry she forgot it, but that she had recently dropped it and was sorry about that. I saw the owner talking to other tables but either he wanted to avoid me because he saw we were having issues or wasn't aware of the incompetent service we were receiving. Maybe it was just a bad day, but there are plenty of places we have been to on a regular basis without any issues during these times. If you want a sure thing, I would pass on this place. read more

I came to Poughkeepsie Steakhouse for lunch with my mom for Mother's Day. We were earlier than their opening time, but were warmly welcomed in anyway. We had the whole place to ourselves for a while and enjoyed the excellent service provided by Jessie. My mom, a notoriously picky eater and diner, said her burger was cooked perfectly. I had a grilled salmon salad that was terrific with lots of good stuff and perfectly grilled salmon. It was one of the most enjoyable Mother's Days I can remember. What a disappointment. My husband and I went with my brother and his wife for dinner last night. We were there for months ago and had one of the best meals I can remember. So much for that... We all got there around seven and were seated. There were no set ups at the table. We ordered drinks and waited 45 minutes. The drinks came to the table and they were terrible so we sent them back it took another 20 minutes to get drinks. They were subpar but we figured let's just go with it. Three of us ordered steaks, one ordered fish. I ordered a baked potato and creamed spinach. I received a baked potato and mashed potatoes. No creamed spinach. Our server Was running around Very confused and overwhelmed. There was one other server working who also seemed extremely overwhelmed. Meals were not coming out. Our steaks were great fortunately. The fish was OK. We asked for seltzer early on because there was no water on the table and never received it. We saw a manager or owner, not sure who he was as he did not introduce himself, who said it was ' on its way' When the server came out with the seltzers, there was a definite change in her attitude. She was irritated with us and it showed. She went back in the kitchen and we didn't see her again until we were done with our meal. She never came by and asked if everything was OK, by the time she came out we were done with our meal and I explained that I never got my creamed spinach. She said she would see that it was taken off the bill. Which it was. She asked if there was anything else we wanted like dessert we all said no. When she came out to give us the bill she threw it on the table into some sour cream that was sitting on the table. Then she Turned around and walked away in a huff. Needless to say this place has gone down in flames. The steaks were good but the 'I don't care' Attitude was not something I went out to dinner for. To charge $50 for a steak and get that kind of service - Not acceptable. Oh, and to eat off dessert forks because "that's all we have" was ridiculous. I am certainly not used to being treated that way. This server needs to go back to Subway or McDonald's. The restaurant needs to figure out what they want to be and if they want to be Morton's they've got a long way to go. What a very bad experience and a terrible disappointment. If I could give it no stars I would. By the way, all of this was going on and the owner sat at the bar and watched TV and talked with the bartender. I hope he enjoys the conversation because pretty soon that's the only person he's going to have there. read more

Great service and great food. Our party of 6 dined "in" started by sharing bacon wrapped scallops (5) which were delicious - if you like scallops get these. Pretzel bites (5) which were large with just the right amount of salt and a nice cheese dip that had a just right spicy kick French Onion and NE clam soups were great Dinners went from Filet Mignons and a Porter house (that two of us shared) as well as a chicken sandwich and quesadilla. The steak lovers really enjoyed their dinners which were cooked perfectly and a special call out for the crispy buttermilk chicken sandwich. Shout out to Yanna for her great service! read more
