We attended a private retirement dinner at this steakhouse. I have never been here and finding out about is great. We were seated in a large private room with a sliding door so that we could dine privately with a group of 70 others. The event host decided to offer a 2 course prix fixe menu, beer & wine included, and with delicious cupcakes as the third course. The setup was beautiful. There were 7 tables of 10 guests at each table. The room was perfect for an intimate dinner retirement celebration with family and close friends. We chose: Caesar Salad & the Prime Rib and Spinach Salad and Prime Rib. The serving staff were great. They all had smiles on their faces and they seemed to be happy to serve the party. Our salads were great with perfect portions. The salad tasted fresh as well. The Prime Rib was perfectly cooked and prepared; medium and juicy. I loved the cream horseradish sauce that they served with my Prime Rib. Overall, this was a wonderful experience and I now know that this steakhouse exists here in Rancho Bernardo. Great job!!

I uncovered Carver's looking for a place that served prime rib, which is actually harder than it seems if you want to go better than Outback, but don't want to drop $80 on a steak. Carver's has an old-school steakhouse vibe that isn't manufactured. It's not trendy, or trying to be something it's not. They have a small parlor area where you check in and a lounge/bar area in addition to the restaurant. We decided to check out the bar and lounge as we waited for our table and grabbed an Old Fashioned. When we arrived at our table we ordered the Hot and Spicy Shrimp appetizer, which we both really enjoyed. It had the right amount of heat and they had really good flavor. For dinner, I ordered the 20oz bone-in Carver Cut prime rib, which came with my choice of side (I went with fries) and a soup which upgraded to French onion. I really enjoyed the steak and fries. The French onion soup was good but I didn't realize it wasn't going to have the cheese and bread topping. Still pretty good flavor though. My BF ordered the 14-ounce New York steak with a side of au gratin potatoes and a side of Béarnaise sauce. He really enjoyed his as well and was quite impressed with how the steak was cooked and the flavors. We shared a bottle of wine as well and the whole thing with too was just under $230 which is not bad for a special occasion or an indulgent Meal. We will be happy to come back.

I can't believe I've lived in San Diego for 35 years and had never been to Carver's. I heard about it from coworkers and needed to try it. I was delighted by the cozy ambiance (darker lighting, fireplace, and huge window with twinkly lights), but the dinner was fantastic! We went to the early dinner and loved our steaks (butterflied to cook more evenly), potatoes, bread, and creme brulee' dessert! We'll definitely be back!

Brought da wife for Valentine's Day. Place was lit like a romantic movie- pedals on the floor- wine on the walls- the whole 9 yards. Service was FAST and the food was delicious. The price is unbeatable for a steak house. I would suggest getting a steak and pairing it with a nice sauce. 5 STAH

We decided to give Carvers a try because of all the good reviews. We made reservations and glad we did because it was quite busy there on a Friday night. Service was great. We had a really nice waiter who gave excellent recommendations for drinks and food. I wish I remember his name. The drink and steak prices were very reasonable. Steaks were cooked perfectly and we all had a great dinner there. We were celebrating a birthday and they gave us a complimentary dessert for free! Will definitely be back.

We had a great dinner at Carvers on a Tuesday night which worked out well as that is when they have their early bird special. If you order between 4:30 and 5:15 pm they have a fairly good special where you can get dinners such as Prime Rib or Filet Mignon for about $23 and a decent bottle of wine for $16. Please note that this does not match their website that indicates that this is for every day, not just Tuesdays so a bit of false/old advertising. I would have given them 5 stars otherwise. The 8 oz prime rib was good and the 5 oz Filet Mignon were excellent. The service by Brandon was fantastic, the decor is very nice, and there is a nice garden view. Make sure you make reservations even during the week as this is a fairly popular restaurant.

the crab-stuffed mushrooms are our go-to; the melted cheese is so gooey & tasty, & the chunks of crab are sizable. the calamari is perfectly tender. the clam chowder is also good, w plenty of clams instead of too much potato or filler. the amount that comes w an entree is filling & shareable; it's definitely worth the $2 upgrade. (the caesar salad on the other hand is p sparse.) i also liked that there was complimentary brown bread w sweet whipped butter i normally don't care for steakhouses or restaurant roast beef, which is often much blander than what you'd make at home yet at a premium price. but carver's rib eye, filet trio, & house cut prime rib were all well seasoned, as was the jus that came w the roast. (however we preferred the chicago rib eye to the chili one, as the latter came w a pepper relish that was a bit too sweet & distracted from the good flavor of the beef. & while i liked trying all the sauces for the filet trio, next time i'll ask for them on the side bc they were all running into each other on the plate. the demi-glace was a bit sweet as well.) i especially liked the peppercorn sauce (tho it doesn't taste much of whiskey) as well as the garlic mashed potatoes. the vibe of the place seems to be a quiet neighborhood restaurant w a lot of regulars. so a lot of staff seems to be local kids, & the pace of service seems to be on the more relaxed side by design. the furniture is old & the lighting is dim (we prefer seating by the window), but at the end of the day, this is a v reliable, no-frills steakhouse that tastes better than places twice the price

Early bird 8 ounce prime rib medium rare for $31 plus $1.95 for the clam chowder

This is a big place but was getting pretty full of people by 5 PM, which may be due to their early bird specials which end at 5:15. That's exactly why I decided to eat dinner two hours early at 4:45 PM! I can never pass up prime rib, and the 8 ounce was cut thickly and it was quite tender. My only complaint is that the temperature was lukewarm. I found the au jus not too salty. The clam chowder had chunks of clam meat but I could've used a bit more cream in the base. The place has quite the dim lighting (I initially thought my transition lenses hadn't transitioned to indoor levels yet), which, with the fireplace, created a super cozy ambiance.

I challenge you to find a better Sunday night special in RB: all night happy hour anywhere in the Lounge. Discounts on all appetizers and drinks. Easy parking. Dark and cozy in the Lounge with one silent TV. Great service from bartender Crystal. She recommended the lamb lollipops. You get 4 for $14 on HH and they were delicious...go easy on the ranch. She also recommended the jumbo shrimp cocktail ($12.50) and the potato skins that were a full portion for just $9. Well Old Fashioned was just $8 and craft beers were $5...love it! Should have stopped there, but had to try the prime rib dip sando that was just $8. High quality, great value. Looking forward to my next Sunday visit!

An excellent steakhouse! The ambiance is classy, but not too fancy, which is perfect for a date night. Service was great and very fast. We came on a Saturday night and it was somewhat busy but we still got our food very quickly. I was disappointed that the food wasn't hot, just warm, but I'll still give it another try next time.

Really nice place with lots of seating. The menu is great, I really liked how the entrees came with a soup or salad and a side rather than ordering them all separately. The calamari was good and flavorful, I really enjoyed the fried vegetables with it as well. Only wish it had a lot more sauce, even having the sauce on the side would have been ideal because it was very good. The complimentary bread was also delicious. The entrees were subpar, my boyfriend ordered his steak to be butterflied and it was not, and because of that his steak was underdone. Also the steak was bland and he's had better elsewhere. My steak unfortunately had tons of fat on it, even trying to cut it off the fat it was still all over and inside. Every bite was squishy and it was very undercooked as some parts appeared raw. I really did enjoy the sauce on top and the mashed potatoes but the steak was so disappointing. Service was okay, slow at some parts but fast at refilling our drinks which was great. Overall it was a decent experience but not impressive enough for a return.

Restaurant is tucked away in Bernardo Center, behind Peet's. Exceptional service service, quality and value. We were a group of 5, seated in a quiet room. It was very spacious in the room unlike the main dining hall. Started with the calamari, it isn't the usual, this came with (I wanna say) Mayo spicy drizzle. The onion soup came with onion strings. The soup was rich. Very tasty. It was also very filling. Chose the fresh fish feature with vegetable, love that the broccoli still has some bite and not mushy. My fish has a crab cream sauce. Love that sauce. Key lime pie was light, tangy and creamy. Definitely a must-try.

Great old school steakhouse vibes! The menu variety is top notch. If you are not a meat eater, fantastic selection of seafood and pastas. Steak and Prime Rib entrees come with soup or salad and a side. Au Gratin potatoes are delicious with a hearty amount of onions. Garlic mashed potatoes are just the right consistency, not too creamy. Filet trio was a delicious journey with the very different sauces (like eating an entree sampler). Prime rib had us most excited. Described as slow-cooked and tender on the menu. But was actually a bit tough (first indicator was difficulty cutting into bite-size pieces using a proper steak knife). Our excitement settled to underwhelming. One member of our party mentioned that they preferred home-cooked meals. I have to compliment the service. Top notch, but expect less attention when it gets busy. Prices are reasonable on both the menu and wine list. What you really want to create is a combination of food, service, and ambience that makes a memorable experience = a return visit. The disappointment in the prime rib is what mainly lowered our excitement, but overall a good dining experience.

Ask the Community - Carver's Steak & Chops

Can they accommodate groups of 15+?

Yes. I'd call in advance. I believe they have 2 "private" rooms you may access. One could accommodate 30+. I don't know of the details to book

    Do they have outdoor dining?

No they don't but they had an atrium with no seating, more of a view

    Is there a corkage fee?

    yes but reasonable

Are they open for take out now?

No, sorry. They are not. 😕

    Do they serve prime beef?

    Yes and it is awsome

Is there a gluten free menu? (I have Celiac Disease)

Yes! Just ask the hostess 😋

Do you have an early bird or daily special? If yes, can you give an idea of the price and what it would be.

    2-3 specials daily $30+

Is Carvers open on Thanksgiving Day and if so, will they have a special menu for Thanksgiving or will it be their everyday menu? I'm asking because we like having steak and prime rib on Thanksgiving and we thought about having our Thanksgiving…

Yeah they are open. $29 for turkey or prime rib plus stuffing, mash, etc..I'd make a reservation first..

The staff was very warm and welcoming, though throughout the evening it definitely felt like they may have been short staffed and stretched a bit thin. Since we were headed to a movie after dinner, we decided to keep things light and share appetizers plus dessert. We tried the Fried Shishito Peppers, Veggie Potstickers, Grilled Broccolini, Rosemary Garlic Fries, Whipped Burrata, Garlic Noodles, Salmon Poke Tacos, and Lamb Chops. Overall, the food was decent but nothing especially memorable. The lamb chops were cooked nicely but could have used more seasoning, and the poke tacos were tasty but tiny -- literally about the size of my pinky for each taco. We were disappointed they had sold out of both the Crème Brûlée Bread Pudding and the Budino, which were the desserts we originally wanted to try. Thankfully, the Butter Toffee Cake completely saved dessert for us -- absolutely delicious and easily the highlight of the meal. Our server recommended a special habanero roll, and my friend ordered the Hawaii rolls--both were excellent. Another friend ordered a burger and really enjoyed it as well, so the kitchen is definitely doing something right. Where things fell short was the service. Our server started off great--friendly and with a good vibe--but as the evening went on, things slowed down noticeably. The host was not very attentive; we had to ask multiple times for items, and drinks were delayed until our server eventually followed up. It felt like no one else was stepping in to help. There were also a few mix-ups. We ordered crème brûlée and cheesecake, but were mistakenly given bread pudding that belonged to another table. It took about 20 minutes for the server to return and let us know about the error. While it wasn't added to our bill, there wasn't much effort made to make up for the inconvenience. I also ordered another glass of wine that never arrived--though, to be fair, I wasn't charged for it. Toward the end of the night, service became even more inconsistent. We were ready to pay, but the server disappeared for a while, and when he finally took our card, he seemed distracted and took extra time chatting with another table. Overall, it's a nice spot--especially for a summer dinner--and the food is definitely worth trying. However, the service needs improvement before I'd consider coming back.
