We came for some festive cheer at the Bernardo winery and ordered the Calabrese pizza and bolognese rigatoni pasta. You can see the pizza dough being made fresh thru the window and so we were expecting a fresh to made pasta as well but to our disappointment, the pasta was premade and handed to us at the register in a to-go container. Seating is available outside. The pasta was mediocre. There hardly any bolognese sauce and meat. Luckily, the pizza was good! The dough was chewy and some of the crust had a nice outer crunch. The pepperoni was good. I would have to say that the pasta was truly a let down so the overall rating is 3.8.

The Kitchen is a casual restaurant located within the Bernardo Winery. They serve a mix of pizza, salads, and appetizers. You pay at the counter and they bring the food out to you. There are tables spread across the property. You can order wine and drinks and they have a complimentary water station too. The food was overall fine. I personally think it's a bit overpriced ($16-25 per item) given the food was average tasting, nothing special. The ambiance is beautiful and timeless. It's a hidden gem within the suburb community of Rancho Bernardo. Great picture spots. There are small boutique shops throughout the village including a sweets shop that sells house made gelato and a free museum that tells the story of the city. There is a small parking lot at the start of the village but more parking further up. A nice place for date night or to take your friends from out of town but not sure I'd come here every weekend as a local.

This place never disappoints. I love coming out here for a relaxing time in their lovely rustic village atmosphere ,away from the hustle and bustle. They've got great Sangrias from the tasting room. Food from the Kitchen is consistently delicious. The staff is friendly and helpful. I called in advance to inquire about reservations. The restaurant doesn't take reservations anymore, however you can order from the Kitchen, sit anywhere you'd like in the Bernardo Winery Village and they will bring you your food. We didn't have a problem finding a table on a Saturday afternoon and service was fast. Come visit the Kitchen and the many shops at the Bernardo Winery Village and see what makes one of the oldest wineries in California so charming and unique! Not sure what to try? Here's a few menu recommendations: Food Rigatoni + Vodka Sauce: Pasta is handmade, in-house and the sauce with lemon ricotta is delicious. Charcuterie: great assortment of meats, cheeses, fruit and bread! Beverages The tasting room has an assortment of tasty wines and also beer on draft. I love their red sangria.

Beautiful ground with table outside under the patio. Open at 11am - 8pm Wednesday to Saturday 11-6 on Sunday. Close Mon Tuesday. Serving rustic Italian fares with hand made wood fired pizzas and tasty pasta. Theirs antipasti are nice and traditional. Order and pay inside, sit wherever available outside ( not reserved) and food will be delivered to table. Walk across to order your wine, chat a while and get back to enjoy your food. To close off with gelato near by before shopping around. Very relax time to spend your Sunday afternoon.

Such a delightful little spot - it's a mini village with wine, shops, and food tucked away in the neighborhood. A great place to picnic with a bottle of wine and enjoy the outdoors! The pizza also looked amazing but we stuck with salad and fries today. Loved the salad but the fries were actually a bit bland and I didn't love the vodka sauce addition. Would definitely come back to spend a day here!

I came for my usual rigatoni pasta that I've been craving and tried the wedge salad for the first time. The rigatoni was delicious as always. I wish it came with more ingredients like sausage, onions, and mushrooms but that's ok because the noodles are always cooked perfectly and the vodka sauce is flavorful. The wedge salad is packed with flavor. I loved the dressing and will definitely be ordering that again.

My first time here and I loved it! it feels like you're on vacation with your friends, having great wine, yummy food, and good vibes all around. My friends and I ordered a bunch of different plates and we loved everything. But the ciabatta board and mozzarella bruschetta were my favorite. Can't wait to come back!

What a great restaurant at the Bernardo Winery. It's the perfect place to meet up with friends for lunch before walking around the cute winery and do some shopping in the boutiques on site. There are lots of outdoor tables to choose from and most are shaded. It opens at 11am and it was busy soon after. We went on a weekday too. You can get wines from the tasting room or delicious coffee from Manzanita next door. You order from the counter and your food will be delivered to your table. Everything we had was delicious though the pizza was a little on the burnt side from the wood fired oven.

I came to this location long time ago and food being really good so was excited to come back again. The kitchen looked different and only outside seating was available. The host was really nice but the menu was blahhh. Very simple menu. The food was just ok too. Wish they had more food options

I was here last week, but noticed there was a restaurant inside. Came back with some family and enjoyed some quality time with them. You order inside and you get to choose where you want to sit. The staff was super knowledgeable and friendly. The rigatoni I ordered was flavorful, yummy and the outdoor seating is super cute. Can't wait to come back and try more of their wine, more food and make a stop at their gelato shop! Good place for a date night or a fun girls day.

Finally made it here. :) The restaurant currently only have tables outside. Not really an issue as you can people watch and enjoy the beautiful days and fresh air. Friendly service and really good food. We went there for lunch and shared a cheese and meat board that was surprisingly very filling. Then we had the pear and Gorgonzola pizza which it was outstanding. All enjoyed with a bottle of their Syrah. Super nice afternoon. We enjoyed a great atmosphere and amazing delicious food. :)

It is always summer at the Rancho Bernardo winery, so beautiful and always pleasant. So when I have visitors from abroad I always suggest going there. The Kitchen is new to me and attractive to them since they wanted to share pizzas. I like how you can bring your own picnic gear and no one bothers you for creating your own magic. However, I miss whatever restaurant was there before with more food choices and I don't remember you paying first and then you are served at the table. Nice location and lots of customers but too high prices for what it is.

Does this place allow smoking in their outside seating area? I have really bad allergies to second hand smoke

No, I don't believe they allow smoking at all on the entire winery property.

The creamy pasta was rich, velvety, and pure comfort food. We honestly couldn't stop talking about how good the pasta was. The pizza was just as impressive. The crust was light, airy, and perfectly charred from the wood-fired oven. The toppings tasted fresh, and even with all the meat and mushrooms, it never felt too heavy. It had that authentic Neapolitan-style texture that kept us reaching for another slice. The service was excellent from start to finish. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and our food came out surprisingly fast. Even though the restaurant was busy, we never felt forgotten, and everything arrived fresh and perfectly prepared. We asked if there were any tables available inside and were told no because they were being saved for other guests, even though there were empty tables for two. It was a bit chilly and windy outside, and we weren't the only ones asking to sit inside. I even watched one of the indoor tables get up and leave shortly after, which made the whole situation even more frustrating. That already left a bad impression, but we decided to stay and give the food a chance. Stinco Di Agnello: 4.5/10 The portion size was great and the dish looked delicious when it came out, but that was about the only positive. The lamb shank was overcooked, a little dry, and lacked the rich flavor you'd expect. Even the sauce couldn't save it. The pasta had a grainy texture, and the mushroom sauce was so weak that you could barely taste it. On top of that, the plate was too small, so the lamb sauce kept mixing into the mushroom sauce and completely threw off the dish. Saltimbocca Alla Romana: 3/10 This was honestly unacceptable. We specifically ordered the steak medium rare, and it came out well done. That's not a small mistake. It's one of the most basic things to get right. We didn't send it back because we didn't want to sit there waiting for another entree or waste the food, but it was tough, dry, and not enjoyable to eat at all. The sauce was bland and added nothing to the dish. The potatoes were the only thing worth eating. They also only serve wine and beer, so don't expect cocktails. The only reason this review isn't even lower is because our server was kind, attentive, and did a great job. I've given this restaurant multiple chances over the years, and every visit has been disappointing in one way or another. The ambiance wasn't great either. Between being seated outside in the cold, the noise, and the overall atmosphere, it definitely didn't feel like a place I'd choose for a date night. At this point, I can't justify coming back. There are far too many great Italian restaurants around to spend your money on food that is consistently underwhelming and poorly executed. Food: 3/10 Service: 8.5/10

So nice views into the park too. Josh was our server and he was super nice! I started with the pope's delight cocktail. It's listed online as "aged rum + amaro romana + salted cantaloupe olio + lime, $17." But they had decided to add a proscuitto crisp and make it $21. I didn't want the proscuitto so that was a little annoying. But it was a tasty little cocktail. Bread: it's amazing here. They change exactly how they do it from time to time - this version was so yummy and with great butter. App: I got the burrata + pluot | cherry tomato + arugula + almond + coriander + mint + toast appetizer. Very yummy! Huge also. I took half of it home. Definitely recommend. Entree: I always like when the corn agnolotti comes on the menu, but it changes each year. This version was pretty good - I think my pasta was just a tad undercooked, not quite al dente on the parts of the agnolotti on the edges (not the pillows holding the filling). Still good though. Also, if you're going to the theater, do you know they have a FREE shuttle that takes you to the Old Globe and back? We decided to walk there after dinner (easy, pretty) but take the shuttle back after the show. So easy! And then I ordered takeout dessert from Josh. Overall, a super meal and great vibes.
