Absolutely deplorable. Would not recommend this place to anyone. Do not believe "what you've…read moreheard". The aids require a ton more training and/or better vetting during recruitment and hiring. The administration is aloof and was contentious when discussing the care (or lack thereof) of our mother. Important note: The sales people are great! No doubt. But they aren't the ones providing the service. It's about revenue. Remember that! My siblings and I all now live out of state. We relied on a lot their former reputation. Our mother was not treated with dignity (left on the toilet unattended at times) and that was only when they "got around to" responding to her calls to use the restroom. She had multiple UTI's during her short time (6 months) and had fall related injuries that were not reported in acceptable detail or in a timely manner. (**And then later charged us for the wound care for injuries they didn't even deem necessary to share. Ridiculous) She felt like the moment she arrived, she was a burden to the staff. She was afraid to bother them and afraid to tell her children (us) so we "don't make it worse for her" The staff, especially evenings, were gruff and annoyed with her. ALL because she needed the very assistance she was paying to receive. Unacceptable. Whatever the reputation WAS prior to our decision to move her to this "premier senior facility" has long passed and in our experience, completely untrue today. Knowing what I know now, I would not let these people watch my dog overnight much less care for our mother one day longer. We have since moved her from this sad situation. After giving notice, we did not hear from the administration for almost a week and on the day we came with our truck, not one person there even asked why or where she was headed. Apparently They just let people come with a truck and take someone's entire belongings and don't ask a single question to stop by to ask anything. Trolly after trolly moving what was left of her personal items, (many missing with no follow up from PH) It was just more evidence that our mother was right about the complaints she would barely share. This is not written in an emotional state. We have since found her a better place. This is written as a warning and a plea to those who consider Porter Hills and take Yelp reviews under serious consideration. If you should choose this place for your loved one, plan on being VERY involved in the day to day needs, believe your loved one when they tell you about mistreatment and keep a close eye on the care they receive and more importantly, what they don't receive. I wish I had ONE kind thing to say. Honestly I do. However, there isn't anything I can point to. Due to the Yelp rating system, I'm force to even give one star. The stress and setbacks Porter Hills caused our mother and our family is impossible to overstate. Thankfully we were able to make a merciful and swift change before things became worse. If I was looking for a place for someone in my family this would be it. As someone who has worked in several similar homes the employees here are second to none. There are some very sad and scary things that happen in some hospice care homes and you will never have to worry about that here. The owner, Shanell truly loves each resident and goes above and beyond to make them comfortable and happy with such patience and compassion its unbelievable. It was my joy to work for her for over a year.

There are activities seven days a week, shopping trips, and transportation to and from appointments. The manager Katie is wonderful and largely the reason we choose this place. Clearly not the typical patient in this environment. A review on my services received is of a different level. This is not that. Got to watch staff treating others. As a 1st timer at rehab...Despite decades hearing only negative opinions of these type facilities and staff, I was very pleasantly surprised. Facility was clean, and secure. Only saw pieces of what was available for enrichment. I always wish for more wherever I go. All the hands-on employees were very kind, caring, and busy with to-from patient residents or check-in visits. Despite having just arrived, well into shift, or handing off shift duties to go, all resident patient interactions showed interest, and responsiveness. They do what they can, with good bedside manner. Noted and appreciated friendly first name basis being used equally back and forth. On behalf of the more reliant patient/residents, I give 4of5.

Our mom had fallen and broken her hip and needed a place for to go till she was able to be on her own again and they took such great care of our mom! Missy even came in on her day off to get our mom all settled! The nurses are terrific! Everyone is so kind! I would highly recommend this place as your home away from home! I have very mixed feelings about Riverside Courtlands. On the surface, the facility is beautiful,…read morewell-maintained, and offers appealing amenities for residents. The admission process was quick and efficient, and for someone who is largely independent and only needs minimal support, this could seem like a great option. However, once any level of real care is needed, serious issues become evident. The facility does not have an RN on staff -- only CNAs -- and during the night shift, the entire facility is often run by just two CNAs - not even a manager in charge. This lack of proper staffing creates a dangerous situation for residents who need more attention or might be at risk for falls. During our time there, falls were frequent, and one day alone saw three residents were taken to the ER due to injuries. I was constantly seeing residents with bruised faces, etc. walking around. The call button system is unreliable, especially at night, and response times can be worryingly slow. Often when they did have adequate staffing you could find 4-5 of the CNAs outside the dining room door congregating. This would be a good time to round with the residents who might not be able to go to the dining room. Nonetheless my loved one had a nasty fall and passed away the next day. I believe that fall worsened the condition at hand. Another concern was the pressure I felt to use CorsoCare for hospice services -- a provider located two hours away from our location. Unfortunately, that experience was far from ideal and felt more like a convenience for the facility than a benefit for us. I wonder if there is some sort of partnership between the two. In short, if your loved one is active, fully mobile, and doesn't require much in the way of assistance, this might be a pleasant place for them to live. But if they need attentive care or medical oversight, I would not recommend Riverside Courtlands. It offers a nice place to stay -- with meals, activities, and a roof over your head -- but very little in the way of actual care, which sadly did not support my loved one in their final days. Also, I will say the sales gal was SO nice and helpful during the sign on / move in process but once our loved one passed away we received not one condolence from any of the staff - not one. We received a bill and a notice to vacate the room. I found that very unsettling considering how nice and helpful they were to start.

Mom has a 'studio' apartment that is huge - and we could add as much of her own things from drapery, to pictures, to shelving to really make it her own home. The apartment decor is up to date (stainless microwave, if desired in her kitchenette) and everything is clean and fresh. Housekeeping is amazing, along with maintenance and laundry. Staff seem to have a great attitude. Always with a smile and willingness to help or answer questions. Some stop by just to chat, and see how your day is going. Aids, med techs and nursing staff are wonderful and well-trained. Concerns are listened to. (Former nurse with long term care experience here...) This is 'assisted' care. Loved one can refuse showers. Staff is WELL aware of things, and certain behaviors are spelled out in the month-to-month contract that avoid serious issues. This is not a nursing home. They assist you when you require help. Different licences and rules apply here than at other kinds of care places. Some residents have had hospice here, and then pass on. They don't kick you out if you are sick. Yet, this is NOT a memory care facility. If loved one declines that way, there are other local Vista facilities (Northview) that they can transfer to, certain things being in place (room availability, etc...) Food is very good - with a nice pub-type alternate menu choices. Room service meals are no extra charge. Guests can eat for a reasonable charge, just inquire at the friendly concierge. Everything (except onsite beauty salon) is included in the rent. No "care-level" add on costs if loved one needs extra assistance. Choice of doctors who specialize in elder care come to the facility... including blood draws. Activities are creative and varied (artists come and paint with residents on a project... flower arranging... song performances... animals visit...etc) lots of outings are offered in their own van/bus as well as any entry fees covered. Residents are welcoming, and very friendly. They come from all walks of life and most from middle class income levels. (This age group saved and invested, lived on less than they made, paid off their home, and some, not all, received some kind of retirement package... unlike today's reality.) I have never noticed or overheard any attitude of "looking down" upon any other resident from these residents. An outstanding facility, in my opinion, and worth checking into.

However, even if it was owned by strangers, I can't think of any place I would rather have my grandma live. Uncle Pat and Aunt Sandie are two of the kindest and most caring people that I know. When it became apparent that my grandma should probably not live by herself any longer, we had a family meeting about the situation. It was probably one of the easiest family meetings of this type. Aunt Sandie immediately said that she and Pat had always wanted to be able to have their family members live with them and of course they would be delighted to have Grandma move in. That's how Stonewood Homes was born, or at least my perception of it. :) When I think of kindness, generosity, and good sense, I think of my Aunt Sandie and Uncle Pat. Who else would convert their family home into a senior living facility? Not only does my grandma have a safe, wonderful, caring place to live, but she has the opportunity to share it with the other residents who quickly become her friends. I had the opportunity to visit Stonewood Homes in person this past weekend for my grandma's birthday. Uncle Pat and Aunt Sandie could not have been better hosts and it was wonderful to experience how my grandma is living. The house has the amazing characteristics of being both cozy and spacious. It's homey, but with tons of luxurious touches. In case you haven't seen the photo - there really is a beverage bar! Aunt Sandie always has coffee and hot tea at the ready. One final note: the beds are fantastic. I travel for work and have stayed in quite a few hotels. The memory foam mattress toppers are soooo comfortable! I slept like a dream, even if it was a twin sized bed. :)
