If I could give zero stars I would. I saw Nidhi Malhotra from this practice on May 20th and she is the absolute worst doctor I have ever had the displeasure of working with. To begin, she was very cold and so unfriendly. She rushed me through my appointment and interrupted me multiple times while I was trying to explain different symptoms and my history. She just had an overall demeanor that she didn't care. To make matters far worse, Nidhi Malhotra knew that I had just completed a year of inpatient, residential, PHP, and IOP treatment for an eating disorder that she was informed by my PCP was SEVERE. I had not even been out of treatment a whole month when I had my appointment with her. I typically avoid getting weighed at the doctor since being made aware of my weight post eating disorder treatment for anorexia is obviously not helpful. However, I let them weigh me at Nidhi Malhotra's office because I figured they would need my weight for the upcoming colonoscopy anesthesia. I stepped on the scale backwards and asked that they not post my weight in my discharge papers due to my history. Despite knowing that I am a patient in recovery from a severe history of anorexia and confirming with me that they would not make my weight known, Nidhi Malhotra and her team completely disregarded what we talked about and posted notes to my chart with both my weight and BMI. I was aware that I had rapidly gained a lot of weight in treatment, but didn't know how much. Nidhi Malhotra noted on my chart that because of my high BMI I need to have the colonoscopy done at the hospital and that she suggests I try to maintain a healthy weight and BMI. She also wrote that I was asking for a colonoscopy, but my GI issues are likely due to "many mental health issues" which we NEVER talked about. What she wrote in my chart did not correlate with anything we actually discussed. I feel completely dismissed by this "doctor" and I relapsed with my eating disorder after seeing her notes in my chart, as she repeatedly referred to my high BMI and because of her I found out that my weight is way higher than I ever imagined. This may seem small to some, but this is highly upsetting to somebody with a long history of severe anorexia. One of my regular doctors also tried to get in touch with her after this incident and Nidhi refused to get back to her. What I found interesting is that after my appointment on May 20th I repeatedly got texts and emails to review my experience with Nidhi Malhotra. When I clicked the link to leave my review, there were two different ones - one for positive reviews that took you to Google and one for negative reviews that privately went to the office. I believe this is why there are so many positive reviews for this doctor on Google. But the negative reviews don't lie. Nidhi Malhotra is a horrible doctor and my regular doctors and I are absolutely disgusted with her. Lastly, she and her team never followed up with me about my concerns. What they did do is cancel my colonoscopy less than two weeks before it was scheduled without even calling me to discuss it. They sent me a portal message cancelling and claiming that it's because the hospital where the colonoscopy was supposed to take place doesn't take my insurance, which I know for a fact is false because I have had several procedures there. So now I am stuck with no answers to my raging GI symptoms and I'm in an eating disorder relapse after only being out of treatment for 2 months as of today. Nidhi Malhotra should not be practicing medicine and I strongly recommend that anybody looking for a GI doctor stays away. read more

They will turn you away and cancel your appointment if you have seen a gastro within the same year. it does not matter whether or not you need to find care and need answers about your health. I called my insurance and they have never heard of a doctor's office ever doing that and I don't see how they can turn you away when you have unlimited visits to a specialist per year. read more

What a terrible experience!! Called in as a new patient seeking an appointment. When they learned I'd seen a GI doctor in January (it's now August) they told me they couldn't book me for an appointment. I explained that my current doctor was unable to support my needs. The receptionist was so so rude to me. Trying to start an argument and sassing before I could even finish my sentence. What a terribly rude person. Horrible experience trying to get an appointment here. Was referred here by my primary care doc. These people never called me. I called 3 different times. Left a voicemail the first time no return call. The 2nd time spoke to someone who transferred me to a scheduling person. Left a voicemail with her and never got a call back. Called back a 3rd time and spoke to the same person and told him what happened and he assured me someone would call me back that day. Nothing! I'd give zero stars if it'd let me. read more

My PCP made an appointment, which I may have missed. Without informing me or my consent (written or verbal) they started sending me a bill for $100 for missed appointment. If they escalate, I will report this to BBB and other authorities and possibly take a legal action. Not about money, but I consider this malicious business practice and don't want to encourage this behavior. read more

Dr. Pai is an excellent doctor. However, his office staff is rude and the billing department is a complete mess. After your procedure, the patient is responsible for coordinating payment/bills for Cary Gastro, Raleigh sedation, and Raleigh Endoscopy separately. Their office won't bundle and make sure billing runs smoothly for you. Also, it's very hard to reach staff and I usually get hung up on when I call. It's so unfortunate, because this Dr is good. The doctor was nice but her assistant is very rude. After not getting results in a timely manner I called to check and was told I would have them by the end of the day. When it did not happen I send the message again and finally got the results . For some results she told me to check with labcorp. I always get results from doctors not the lab so I was surprised. I needed a prior authorization but it took. forever. There is no sense of urgency and yet as a patient you will be in pain but they don't seem to care. I'm not even sure if they send the messages to the doctor anymore to remind them it needs to get done. Very rude medical assistant. read more

Found them on UHC's website, so definitely in-network. Scheduling a colonoscopy was easy, only 3 weeks out. I filled out all the paperwork, received an email with instructions for prep and links to documents in the portal (disclaimers saying they might puncture something, or miss any issues; fine). I went through all the prep and showed up for the procedure at Raleigh Endoscopy Center - Cary. Only then did they ask me to sign a form acknowledging that the anesthesiologist would bill separately and I was responsible for paying them. I asked for the name so I could see if they are in network, and they (Raleigh Sedation Associates) were not. I asked what it would cost and they did not know. I asked if I could have the procedure without anesthesia and they said no. I called Raleigh Sedation and they confirmed they were out of network and they estimated $300 for the anesthesia alone. A lady in the office also gave me a phone number for their "corporate" and said those are the people who should have verified our insurance up front. She wrote down "Amsurg 855-264-0222". So I called that number to complain and the nice lady who answered said no, the doctors' office should have confirmed it. And that they should have confirmed that FOUR parties were in network: the doctor, the facility, the anesthesiologist, and a pathologist (in case anything was found). She also said they are not affiliated with the doctors office--that they just outsource their billing to them. Avoid Cary Gastro, and avoid Raleigh Endoscopy. read more

My 81 year old mother was scheduled for a colonoscopy and the DOCTOR DIDN'T SHOW UP at the hospital on the day of the procedure! When the hospital called the office they said the procedure was rescheduled and then cancelled and they had "no evidence that the patient was ever called", because she wasn't ever called. When questioned how this could happen, that a procedure was cancelled without notifying the patient, they said it was just human error. As a business owner I was astounded. Please DO NOT TRUST THIS OFFICE with your health. They have artwork in the office that talks about how important the patient is, but they clearly do not believe that to be true. read more

Incompetency. Had colonoscopy done by Dr Pae a few weeks ago. Stay away from them/office. Polyp removed. 4 pics in discharge report. None of them indicate in the specific picture where the polyp is. It's up to me to guess. Did he even remove one? Multiple calls to Dr Ofc, no definitive answer other than it's in pic 3. No circling of it, no words or arrow pointing to it. Dr. calls me after I complain and says it's in 3rd pic and can't say where. I say 'at 2 o'clock?' he says 'he thinks so'. He says he doesn't have report in front of him. I ask why don't you circle and indicate the polyp and he says 'they do too many procedures to do that, No time'. Wow, what an incompetent response and process for a patient. How about have another staff member review the report and circle the defect like Spencer below? Nobody gets back to tell me a definitive answer. I complain to HR (their process) and request new pics posted specifically indicating it and where. We'll see if reposted. She sees no previous records of me calling. Again, Wow. Can't forget, the person that wheeled me out to car was rude to my wife complaining and blaming her saying she should have waited in car for me instead of having to be called and coming back 90 mins later (for a 2-hr scheduled appt). Supposedly could Not wait in the reception area, even multiple people had their family member wait inside the reception area. And, what about the Dr who electronically signed this same report showing the pics, Dr. Jeremy Spencer. Why didn't he/you proof read it better with quality control and indicate what I asked above? Common sense and basic quality control missed multiple times. Implement some Process/procedure changes, quality control and customer service, it's sorely needed. Update. Report of path results came in the form of a ridiculous FORM letter using plural words for what the Dr said was a singular defect. Another pathetic example of non-patient care. read more

I am still reeling over the manner in which I was treated trying to establish care there. I had been seeing another GI doctor elsewhere and I wasn't happy so my PCP mentioned she knew of Cary Gastro having female women's specialists here. She sent in a referral. I was declined. Cary said I'd have to wait a year between my last visit to my previous GI and having an appointment at Cary, claiming office policy. I was stunned. My PCP was kind enough to submit another referral to try to advocate for me. Meanwhile, I also filled out a contact form online asking for an appointment. I received a voicemail from someone named Michaela (sp?) a week ago this past Fri. saying that Dr. A (Abichandani) would see me and that I should get my CT scan and other records for her to see. I called back Cary Gastro and left a message but no one returned my call. I proceeded a few days later to leave another message - same result. I called the office again and opted for the operator choice on the recording. The receptionist answered and I explained the situation to her, that I'd been trying to reach Michaela. Perhaps I made the mistake of saying that I was transferring my care there, but this woman immediately repeated the same old verbiage, that their office policy is to not see someone for a year after their last GI visit elsewhere. Is this any way to treat someone, especially since another person from the office had already contacted me to schedule an appointment? Having had more GI problems as I've been having, what do I need to do? Walk into the ER at some hospital to get attention? I don't know of others are having problems getting seen by doctors, but to be declined when you are having problems is unbelievable! Unheard of! This is NOT an insurance problem. I have spoken with my insurance company about this and they stated that I have the right to be seen by anyone who is in-network. In seeing other reviews here, it's a blessing to not establish care with this group, but nonetheless, it was shocking to be treated this way. read more

I called to make an appointment as a first-time patient for my almost 18-year old daughter. The woman on the phone, Kathy/Cathy would not let me make an appointment because they do not see children. I proceeded to explain to her that my daughter was turning 18 in a matter of weeks. Weeks. Also, probably the amount of time it probably took to actually get an appointment anyway! I asked if they would make the appt now but set the date of the appt after her 18th bday, but she argued that I couldn't even make an appointment until the day she turned 18. I explained to her that it probably takes quite a few weeks to get an appointment anyway, and as most 18-year-old are heading off to college, and wanted to make sure we have an appointment in place before college, but she refused to make an appointment! It was absolutely bizarre! It was probably the weirdest experience I had making an appointment in my life! You would think my daughter was trying to get her hands on some great drugs, when actually she just wanted to be seen by a gastroenterologist (as her primary referred) for her tummy issues. The entire experience was completely bizarre. She offered to have an office manager call me, and so I asked to please have her do that. That was two days ago. This place is not run well, clearly Kathy/Cathy is the "Karen" of the office. She has some sort of entitlement of power, as if she is the "boss"and she gets to decide who gets an appointment and who doesn't. It was the strangest experience I've ever had calling a doctor/professional office. If being a patient there requires speaking to her, and or dealing with absurd office rules, it's not worth it. An office manager has not returned a call. If this is the way, the office is maintained, run far away! We have found another option and will go that route. I'd like to give this practice a 0.5 star for at least calling me back after I left a message a week ago to try to schedule a colonoscopy for screening purposes. They called back today and I didn't have my phone at the time, they left a message to call them back. I called them back 30 minutes later, and they didn't disappoint, the answering machine answered me. I cannot get ahold of a human being there when I call, can't even get in the door to see a physician. If I were the office manager, I'd put the receptionists back on training. They can't be that short staff that they don't have anyone to man a phone now, can they?! I mean, it's ludicrous that it took a week to call me back and then no one picks up when you call. So, don't go to this business since you probably won't get to give a message to a doctor there when you need them because their office is terrible. read more

Did a request for an initial appointment and had someone from the office call me. The lady seemed extremely rude and refused to move any further with the process unless I could provide records from a GI visit I had with another Doctor from over 10 years ago; a provider I only saw a couple of times with no treatments or interventions provided. Told me it was fine if I wanted to go to another practice if I couldn't provide these records. Not sure how they are still in business with customer service like I received. Probably dodged a bullet with this practice. Will look elsewhere. read more

I was a patient of Cary Gastroenterology for at least a decade and I was very pleased with the care I received by Dr. Furrs. More than a decade ago, I transferred care to a Raleigh office because at the time the location was much more convenient for my busy work and school carpool schedule. In retirement I find it most convenient to receive my care in Cary. I called for an appointment to reestablish care. Well, this office has a policy that if you ever leave their office you will never again be accepted as a patient. This tells me that either they are so busy that they don't want new patients, or that they simply don't care about patients and their reputation in the community. TM read more

I had a colonoscopy on Feb 22. After a telemedicine consult it was recommended by Dr Pai that it be done as an outpatient procedure at wake med hospital. The staff at cary gastro are superb; efficient, friendly, patient oriented. Dr. Pai and Hayley were awesome in making me feel comfortable. Darnetta , Heather and Gretchen were in constant communication. Hayley helped me with my questions, and always was friendly and comforting. Wake Med was efficient and things went smoothly. The nurses while waiting in the 'back' Denise, and Ms Holland were awesome in making me comfortable. It was an upbeat environment, patients chatting, nurses being efficient and friendly. CGAs phone support is on the serious struggle bus. Leave vm no call backs, call to confirm appt, nobody picks up after selecting for operator. It took 20 min of my persistence with calls being dropped after timing out to finally speak to a person. If CGA wants patients to call and confirm appts, then they need to have a system and resources so it doesn't take 20 mins if you want patients to respect your time, then CGA needs to respect patients time. read more

I was highly recommend to Dr. Pei at Cary Gastro by my boyfriend who had great results from his visits with Dr. Pei. I have now been visiting this office for the last 8 months for some Gastro issues I've had almost my entire life. Dr. Pei I must say is amazing... upon my first visit he told me he was going to be honest with me and that he couldn't diagnose or help me until he was able to see what was going on inside first. He had his assistant Tim (who is fantastic) schedule me for a colonoscopy and endoscopy right away. Both procedures went very well and Dr. Pei stoped by directly after the procedures to explain what he saw and check up on me. His bedside manner is so refreshing. I am in my mid 30's and have seen two other Gastro's in the past, and neither of them were willing to do a colonoscopy because I was too young, regardless of the fact that colon cancer runs in my family. I spent thousands over the years going to these other gastro's without them fully diagnosing my issues. I also had 3 banding procedures with success, as well as treatment for H. Pylori bacteria. I'm so very grateful for Cary Gastro because my digestive system finally feels like what normal should feel like. In addition to Dr. Pei's great service, the ladies at the check-in counter have always been friendly and helpful to me. Lastly, Tim (Dr. Pei's Assistant) is a godsend... before and after my procedures he would call to checkup on me to make sure I was doing ok and to help answer any questions I might be having. He gave me a direct number to reach him which was very convenient as well. I HIGHLY recommend Cary Gastro because they helped put my digestive track back on track! read more

I was recently in pain from some upper G.I. symptoms for a couple of weeks so I called for an appointment with the doctors I've seen several times as I am a patient of the practice and they told me that her first available was in August. Really?? I couldn't see anybody else from the practice because they don't share patients. That's ridiculous. I was put thru to the doctors nurse to see if she could get me in earlier and I left a detailed message describing my symptoms on Thursday and didn't get a call back. A person having an acute issue is not allowed to see anyone for two months. Clearly, they don't really care about their patients. read more

I've liked the doctor I've seen here, but the practice is clearly poorly managed and the non-medical staff have exceptionally bad judgement. I received this letter as the first and only contact in about 9 months. I am due for an appointment but I actually discussed with the doctor waiting until my new baby was old enough that the milk supply wouldn't be impacted by the procedure. Any practice who doesn't read the notes from the appointment, doesn't call, write, or email, and then sends a letter essentially saying their patient doesn't value cancer position is no practice anyone can entrust their health in. read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Pai's for over 10 years but after this last experience I cannot recommend him or Cary Gastro. I got a "surprise" bill after my colonoscopy. I was told prior that all I would owe is my copay of $25. Weeks later after the procedure I got billed for $1753.44. Basically I was given an estimated cost for a "screening/routine" procedure---which is covered by my insurance but was billed for a "diagnostic". It took a lot calls to his office and to the Raleigh Endo Center to get to the bottom of why I was given such a wildly inaccurate estimate and his billing staff seemed to take delight in trying to play the medical coding shell game with me. I did get them to verify that my procedure was "always diagnostic" but they refused to adjust my bill. There was never a way for me to accurately verify my benefits because they put a screening code in my procedure order and then used a diagnostic code in my bill afterward. And no, nothing about my procedure required any additional add-ons. They either made a mistake or this is their scam, but Dr. Pai would not return my calls. He's the only one that could correct the problem. If I had known that I wasn't covered for the procedure (which really wasn't necessary for why I went in there) I would have chosen a different healthcare procedure that is covered by my insurance. Beware if you use this practice and be sure to ask whether it's routine or diagnostic. And if you get a verification of your benefits from Cary Gastro/Raleigh Endo Center ask for the billing codes and get it in writing! read more

Scheduling a routine colonoscopy was ridiculously difficult with this group. Phone calls not returned. No responses or calls back at odd hours with a quick voicemail. Finally had my physician reach out again before they responded even after 2 referrals were sent. They would not return calls about prep and waited until right before the procedure to finally call it in. I have special restrictions that needed to be managed. They did not call in what I requested. Procedure was ultimately done at 1505 SW Cary Parkway and reminds me of a third world medical setting with curtains for a large number of people. Creepy. The nurse, Jennifer, put in my IV and was really rough. I had a lot of pain from the IV and I'm not unfamiliar with pain or needles. Joint injections hurt less. She just kept telling me not to move even after it was set and I complained about the pain. Not moving at is not reasonable. All of this while I'm being asked bunches of rapid fire questions from another lady. The final recovery crew and anesthesia professional was better, but I highly recommend you stay away from this group. Expect more from your medical care than this. I vote "no confidence"! I wish I had pushed for a different group from the beginning. No more referrals to this group for me. read more

Was referred to this practice after I was having GI bleeding. I called June 24th to make an initial appointment with Dr. Scholl. The first available appointment was Sept 13th, which I booked. On Wednesday Sept 8th I received a message that Dr. Scholl was no longer with the practice and I needed to reschedule my appointment for Monday that I have been waiting months to book. I called this morning to rebook and was told that the first available appointment was in November, but they weren't able to book me. I found this very unprofessional as I had waited months to be seen and they let me know less than a week before my appointment. I will be going to a different practice for care as they were unable to reschedule me. read more

I did eventually get a letter stating she has left the group but they would not offer any information in regards to why she left or if she is still practicing. Found this group on the internet to have a hemorrhoid removed. Their website specifically states that they offer treatment for "internal and external" hemorrhoids, so I made an appointment. When I got there, I waited approximately 30 min to see the doctor. He told me that they only treat internal not external hemorrhoids and that he can refer me to a surgeon. My insurance doesn't require a referral. I could have simply asked my primary doctor or found a surgeon myself. I wasted time away from work and it cost me my copay and deductible. read more

I called to verify BEFORE scheduling my colonoscopy that it was a preventative procedure. I was told it was. AFTER the procedure it was coded otherwise resulting in a huge bill I now owe. They were extremely unhelpful and unwilling to correct their mistake. Only go here if you want them them to try and screw you out of your money. read more

Worst experience ever here. I called to make my first appointment and the lady who picked up advised I should look for a surgeon because they would have to refer me out if I need surgery and she was trying to save me time, but I never said anything about needing surgery and only asked to be seen for an evaluation. I decided to make the appt anyway. After my first appointment, the doctor I saw never contacted me via phone or email for an update!! Instead, I was communicating with a medical assistant who was covering the doctor's assistant who was out of the office . Did I mention I had to call to get my blood test results since I didn't hear from anyone for a week?! The assistant told me I have to take medicine and it was sent to cvs... a day later, they realized that medicine was meant for another patient, not me!! I got call from thr assistant to get more testing including an MRI. Results came back and they didn't find any thing concerning. I asked the medical assistant if the doc can do a virtual appointment or call me to explain and answer a few questions regarding my symptoms. I was told I had to make an appt and be seen again. This whole time, I've not heard back from the doc via email or phone.. why would I go back in the office and potentially risk my health to covid 19 for 3 questions he could have answered via email.
