I was appalled to arrive at my appointment to find a pair of parents and two employees trying to pierce the ears of a young child who repeatedly told their parents no..was crying and holding their hands over their ears. The employees proceeded to do it anyways. I will never set foot in this companys stores or purchase product from them ever again. They and the parents took this little girls consent and choice from her and basically held her down for something that was entirely cosmetic a.s could have been done when the little girl was calmer and could have the right to her own body respected. BURN + WORST CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE On Saturday, April 13, my friend and I went to Caryl Baker in the Rideau Centre for an eyebrow threading procedure at around 4-5pm. We were told that this procedure was not available at the moment and were offered waxing instead. The person taking care of me applied the wax without asking me if I was using any products that might be contraindicated in waxing. She BURNED me, apologized and gave me a list of products to buy to treat the burn. Shocked, I could only ask for a refund for the product I would have to apply. The manager asked me to go to the shoppers and buy my Aquaphor cream so that she could reimburse me. When I came back, she took the whole tube and put some of the cream in containers with gloves and lollipops, under the pretext that I couldn't keep the whole tube, as it was for severe burns. She also explained that it was my fault, and that I should have known it could happen when using adapalene. I felt humiliated and infantilized. I then asked to continue the waxing in another way, as my eyebrows were asymmetrical. I had to pay for this service and the employee who was doing it and who had burned me said, "Do you want a total wax? I had to go home by 5pm". The scar burns every time I have to moisturize, wash my face or hide it with make-up. The manager was the worst part of the experience. She had no empathy and explained things to me with snobbery and obvious contempt. I don't know if it had anything to do with the fact that I'm a black, veiled woman. In any case, I'm asking for the appropriate compensation for all the damages. read more

Caryl Baker Visage at the Exchange Tower is the worst place ever to get your ears pierced! I want to select a no star if I can! Not only that they are not professional, these people who pierced your ears rarely have any experience when you ask them about anything about ear piercing. I can do this with no training. I followed all the instructions given for the eight weeks, not only the holes were closed and bleeding after I remove the earnings. I also got an infection. All that advertisement on the Inverness system ear piercing is a joke. It is just a cheap gun piercing through your earlobes. You can basically get the same kind of ear piercing anywhere for $20, not $90 (with a must buy ear care solution)! When you approach the owner and the headoffice for a refund they just ignored you with no respect! No customer service at all. They just want your money. I am incredibly disappointed with the lack of customer service skills this company has to offer. I went to the Eaton Centre location and got my earlobes and nose pierced, the whole process the day of went well. However, the nose piercing didn't stay in because the post wasn't long enough, and they had nothing else to offer. If you don't have adequate tools and supplies then you should not be offering a service. The lady working told me I could either continuously try to pierce it all the way through all day or take it out. So now I am out a decent sum of money for a piercing that I don't have because Caryl Baker Visage did not prepare properly. I will not be returning or recommending to anyone. read more

I have been to a lot of different day spas for the same eyebrow shaping service - tweeze, wax, or thread, including Gee, Civello, etc. They're great places but I was really wowed by the quality of what I got at Caryl Baker. This is a small shop in the Toronto Eaton Centre (there are other locations). Unpretentious, so kind, and so great at what they do. I was with Zari who may be the best eyebrow professional and aesthetician I've ever been with (and the sweetest girl ever). She did a phenomenal job on my brows - they have NEVER looked better. I gotten many a brow tint from other establishments and this is the only one that has 1) looked GREAT, and 2) stayed. What a difference it has made! Zari did not push products on me. She introduced me to different skin care concepts and was very receptive to my existing regimes. I will definitely be going back! read more

I wish it were possible to give 0 stars. I went in to get a much needed eyebrow waxing after passing by the shop a number of times and seen people in there so I thought, why not, right? I got upsold to doing the HD Brows (tint + wax + brow make-up). The tinting itself wasn't so bad and I did like the colour although the actual shape and design was a bit much (I was able to fix this later). The one star really is for the waxing and the bedside manner that came with it later. A huge chunk of skin underneath my left eyebrow was peeled off from the wax and a little bit on the corner of the upper end of the eyebrow! I couldn't tell how bad it was until I got back to my hotel and what really annoyed me is the fact that the aesthetician kept saying it was because my skin was "sensitive" as if it was my skin's fault. Forget the fact that the right brow was completely fine after. I would have felt a bit better if she just apologised but blaming the customer never sits well. Would never go back and I suggest customers to think long and hard before doing the same. read more

Extremely frustrating experience! I got my makeup done by Visage back in September 2018 at their Square One location as I was a bridesmaid in a family wedding. Appointment was scheduled for 9:30 am, I had arrived around 9:10 am before the store had opened and waited outside. Store opening time came along and no one was there to open the store, 10 mins after the store should have opened a girl finally showed up, however she was clearly in no hurry and did not care that she was late to start my makeup. Overall the makeup looked decent however I spoke up numerous times regarding the things I did not like that she was doing. It took her over 3 times to re-do my eyeliner as it was too thick and in a jagged line. My eye shadow was extremely dark looked like I had a black eye. I assumed she would have noticed how bad the eyeliner looked and fix it, however she didn't, so I had to speak up myself to tell her it did not look good. By the end of my appointment, I was extremely dissatisfied with my experience. I wouldn't have minded being 15 mins late if my makeup looked amazing, but it didn't. Also, I since I was already behind schedule I couldn't tell the girl to fix anything else because I was already out of time. I went here to get my eyebrows done and when I left they looked so sharp! I mean that in a good way. I didn't get the name of the woman who did my eyebrows but she did them pretty well. After having experienced a few horrors with waxing, I've been getting my brows done by threading, but decided to take my chances with this place. The waxing didn't hurt as much as I remembered it did, which was nice. Every time a stick was used to apply wax, it'd get thrown out afterward, and a new one was used for every application. I've never seen that before so I was impressed by it. After the last was done, she asked if there was anything I was unsatisfied with. There was something about unevenness that I was hoping she'd fix, and after hearing countless 'oh that's just the shape of your brows, honey!' I was kind of expecting that reaction. Instead, she actually took note and fixed it, and even went in to take other light, stray hairs that we missed before. The price of the wax was more than I'm used to, in used to paying around $10 after taxes and then tip. Here it's $15 before tax and tip, which came out to almost $20. But, I haven't been this satisfied with my eyebrows in a while, so I'd say it's worth it. I'd give this place 4.5 stars if I could, but unfortunately I can't. The thing that irked me was that the people there were a bit sell-y, trying to get me to buy more of their products and services. They got the hint after a while which is more than what I can say for most places. All in all, I'll probably be going here from now on to get my brow fix. read more

Brought my 3 month old girl in to get her ears pierced. Took the one lady almost 20 minutes to mark the ears correctly with the marker. Then proceeded to pierce her ears and completely miss the dot on one ear. Their response to the mistake was. "We can take it out and try again". Extremely disappointed. Waste of $90 dollars. I have never experienced such rude, snobby and incompetent girls. Everytime I have gone by the girls there are gossiping. The manager there is also very unprofessional. All they care about is making sales and not actually giving a crap about customers. I came to get my eyebrows waxed one day and half of them came off! The consultant who helped me did not even apologize. She just acted as if they looked good, so that I wouldn't be upset. I have also seen the manager make a scene in front of customers and bitch out her staff in front of clients. I would never recommend this place.... products are OK but the staff is ruining the reputation of the company. read more

After, seeing the work on eyebrows that another customer had (which was looking very good in my opinion), I decided to stay for a threading. I went to Caryl Baker for eyelash extensions (located in Brampton). I thought this would be a great place to try them out since I already go here for some spa services and I use some of their skincare products. I went in for a consultation and I believed that the staff was highly trained and competent. I wanted to purchased the classic set which is advertised online and in their print material as starting at $160. The lash tech told me their starting price is $175 + tax and this is for the bare minimum set. Which means they do every other lash instead of every lash. (Which begs the question why on earth are they advertising that it starts at $160 then?!). I proceeded with the full set of extensions at $175 + tax. Immediately after leaving the salon I lost about 6 eyelashes (this is not normal for me). I followed aftercare instructions, slept on my back, did not use oil products, didn't even wear eye makeup, wore goggles in the shower to keep my eyes dry, but the lashes were shedding at a high rate and I also ended up with an eye infection within 7 days. When I came back for a fill 15 days later, I was told I lost too many lashes and I would need to purchase a full set again. A full set (bare minimum) with tax included runs a little over $200.... this means extensions at this location would cost about $400 a month of this is a biweekly occurrence! I proceeded with getting them done again, thinking that the infection made my lashes fall out quicker. I also noticed that some of my eyelashes where glued together, which is a sign of improper technique. But since I spent so much money on this, I wanted to try to maintain the set that I had. Next time I came in for a fill, I was expecting to pay $70. Which is the advertised minimum rate of a fill. And since my set was 'the bare minimum' base price of $175, I was expecting to have the minimum lash fill price aswell ($70). After the service, I was charged $110 plus tax for my fill. (Gulp!) I guess the tech just decides how many lashes they are going to apply. Don't get me wrong... my eyes looked amazing and the tech did a great job with the application this time around, but, I would have appreciated a conversation about the cost prior to being charged whichever rate the tech deems appropriate for the service. I assumed the lash tech would review the customer file prior to performing the service. If the tech did review my notes, they would have been aware that my fill should be priced at $70. I think the tech applied a false lash to every single eyelash, which although it looks great, I cannot be paying this maintenance price on a regular basis. Overall, Caryl Baker is extremely overpriced for eyelash extensions. Most places only charge $120 for a full set (1 false on each natural eyelash) and $50 for a fill. I will be trying another lash business because my wallet is feeling the pinch. And yes, you can find highly qualified technicians that charge significantly less than Caryl Baker. I would suggest looking elsewhere for extensions. read more

This applies to the company at this location and the one in the Exchange Tower as in both places, it's basically the same. Poor customer service in terms of time management. Annoying upselling. And the products they sell you do nothing to make your skin better but it's expensive. Oh and the makeup I once bought a few years ago was ultimately grossly mismatched. I used to be a client of Caryl Baker's for many years (8 or 9 probably). I would get my eyebrows waxed there. They are consistently well trained and I was always happy with the waxing. I can only assume that the staff is pressured to hit very aggressive sales targets on the cosmetics and skincare products as I would be inundated with questions about my skincare regime and recommendations. When I declined or said that I was not interested, they would even insult my appearance and when I would return the next time they would compliment me on the same things that they were criticizing previously. I always felt that I was fending off their sales pitches, defending myself and feeling verbally and emotionally abused by the time I left and realized good eyebrows aren't worth the browbeating! :) read more

I've been here twice. Today will be the last time. Both times my eyebrows were over-waxed in the middle, but only on one side. The first time I gave it a pass because they otherwise did a good job and I had over tweezed them previous and was letting them grow in, but not today. We reviewed what I wanted and I specifically pointed out the right eyebrow needed to grow in and I'm currently colouring in the gap. Instead of maintaining the line I was trying to grow in, they waxed the entire patch off right above the inner corner of my eye! Now my right eyebrow is a good 1/4 inch shorter then the left one and I have to restart the growing in process! On top of that, this place clearly has sales quotas they have to hit on their other services. They insult your skin and then suggest expensive treatments that will fix your "flaws". They tried to convince my girlfriend her mole was acne and that she can remove it with microdermabrasion. Bottom line: if you're looking for skin care experts, look elsewhere! read more

I've been going to Caryl Baker Visage (both in the Toronto Eaton Centre and at The Exchange Tower) to get my eyebrows waxed and tinted for two years now. I have always had a good experience with respect to the services I've received. I have to admit that I do tend to avoid one girl who really did push me on their products, but beyond that, I find the girls who work there to be pretty respectful of the fact that I am there for the service and not to buy product. I've also had my makeup done there a few times and it's the best deal for professional makeup in town! I have been going to CBV for about 5 years and they have always done very very good work on my brows. My one complaint is that they try to sell you on EVERYTHING and more than once have I come out of the store sad and annoyed because I was pressured into buying some stupid useless toner for $35. Don't like it! I went to the Exchange tower location today to get a facial. The Asian girl didn't do a good job cleaning up the mask off my face. There was mud stuck on the side of my face & crystals all over my hair and inside my ears from the microdermabrasion! Didn't like the fact they try to push sales!
