Casa Azul did a big cleanup job in a home that was trashed by years of severe neglect. After 2 days the place shined. The floors were visible again. Sunlight streamed through the windows. You'd be willing to sit in the tub again. They hauled off a filthy stove and a disgusting, stinking refrigerator. Numerous garbage bags were dragged away. Somehow they had a new shower head they installed and trimmed the overgrown vegetation near the front door. They washed the owner's clothes and neatly hung them in the closet and washed the bedding and curtains. Communication with Isabel and Daniela was great and the team was always right on time. I did not have the best experience with the cleaning services; however, it is because of how Shanna handled the situation that I am giving Casa Azul 3 stars. 1. Scheduling an appointment: Shanna was prompt in returning my email inquiry, and very friendly and professional over the phone. She was able to schedule a Saturday afternoon appointment only a few days before, which was great. 2. The cleaning service: a. THE BAD: Unfortunately, the women who cleaned my home arrived about 45 minutes late. Although they had my phone number, I didn't receive a phone call from them telling me they were going to be so late. I understand that sometimes housekeepers may need to be late, especially if they are coming directly from another home, but all I ask is at least for a phone call letting me know you'll be late, or, if that's not possible, more of an explanation or an apology would've been nice. Further, I was charged $120, which is the highest end of the range I was quoted ($105-$120), and then I came in to realize that they did a fairly poor job - the area rugs were not thoroughly vacuumed, I found a huge piece of dust/lint on my bed linens, and they didn't clean my stove top burners - but worst of all, there were brown stains all over my bathtub. They must've used bleach on my porcelain bathtub - you should never use bleach on a porcelain tub, because it leaves stains Luckily, Hydrogen Peroxide quickly got rid of the stains, but I should not have to go on the internet to look up ways to get rid of bleach stains, and then go to the store and buy hydrogen peroxide to clean up after I paid $120 to have my apartment cleaned. They did show me this before they left (after I paid, however), but perhaps due to a miscommunication I thought all they said I needed to do was rinse it with water - it was unclear to me what exactly happened or how to fix it, and it wasn't until I went searching online that I figured out what was wrong with my tub. b. THE GOOD: my kitchen floor is sparkling, and they thoroughly cleaned one of my counter tops which I thought was just destined to have stains on it forever. Besides not cleaning the stove burners, they really did a great job in the kitchen. 3. Post cleaning: I emailed Shanna to let her know I was upset about the bleach stains, and noted the other things I listed above. She sent me a very professional, apologetic response, and made me a generous offer which made me appreciate how she handles her business. Shanna definitely takes pride in her cleaning service and cares about customer satisfaction. Although I had a very frustrating experience, I would still try Casa Azul again because of how Shanna handled the situation. In sum, I think Casa Azul is worth trying. It sounds like some cleaning teams are better than others, so perhaps try to request an experienced team when you schedule your appointment, or be very clear when they arrive about which surfaces should be cleaned with which products. read more

Did a pretty good job. Had them for a non-move out cleaning service. Very friendly lady at the desk to deal with booking your appointment and payment. The ladies were friendly as well. Though it could have been a bit more thorough, it was overall a good experience. A little pricey. I guess thats expected for a college town. I had them clean my floors, bathroom, and kitchen and it was $120 dollars (non-move out). My parents have maids who clean their entire house (~3400 sq ft) for just over $100. But like I said, college towns tend to have demand for these sort of services. read more

I have been dealing with severe chronic pain and illness for over three years, had been unable to clean for the past year and a half, and my apartment had reached a crisis state. It needed a deep cleaning and I had tons of items to discard. Isabel is passionate about this type of project and it shows. I contacted Isabel from Casa Azul who project managed the cleaning and decluttering of my apartment. Isabel is warm, responsive, patient, and a joy to work with. She dealt with my periodic anxiety attacks, my skepticism and nitpicking, my change of schedule, and she has an excellent aesthetic eye when it comes to arranging a living space - a bonus! She set up my now pristine desk beautifully. Isabel brought a team of two very sweet, patient and fanatically detailed cleaners. They didn't speak much English, but Isabel acted as intermediary as she was present the entire time to guide me through this odyssey. First they patiently emptied my apartment of every single item I wanted to get rid of, including a rug, two tables, clothing (which they recycle), books, etc. Isabel brought a truck and even provides secure shredding of documents if you desire. As I worked with Isabel and her team over three days, they scrubbed my walls, sterilized my kitchen, including cleaning out my refrigerator, my cabinets, washed all my dishes, shined everything to a gloss, cleaned my oven, washed my windows and mirrors, and did a phenomenal job restoring my bathroom. A few standout details to give you an idea of the quality of service they provide: - They cleaned my heater - my heater! - They scrubbed my curtain rods without prompting - who else does this? :-) - Isabel cleaned every single item on my desk and rearranged it beautifully - They even cleaned my dustpans and my garbage cans! - I have a HUGE comic collection and they handled that very carefully - Isabel somehow managed to clean my photo frames, my Russian nesting dolls, and personally wiped down almost every single book that I own (and I own a lot) - She set up my bookshelves beautifully and arranged my knick knacks on top of my book shelves with a very good eye for pleasing design I could go on and on, but you get the idea. Her rate was reasonable for a huge and very difficult job. Book Casa Azul - they performed up to my very high standards. I have to agree with several other users that the quality seems to diminish over time. Ive had housekeepers before. They always paid attention to detail and were willing to do special jobs in addition to the regular stuff, if needed. And my house is usually pretty clean to begin with, as one person could do everything in 2 hours. Since Casa Azul works in pairs, I thought it would be better. Two people for 2 hours. First appointment, they did a great job, but they also sent 3 people. The next few jobs were great--no complaints. Then a week comes and there is only 1 person (although she did almost as much as 2 normally did). Then they start being late (1h 15m past the scheduled time). Then the bleach spots on the bathroom rugs...later on my carpet! I figured I would give them one last chance...and again they were late. Ive cancelled my service today. Nearly 2 hours after my scheduled time they finally showed up. Wont use them again. As much as I dont like doing housework, I dont know if I even have the energy to start looking again any time soon. read more

I wanted to like this service as they came highly recommended by a neighbor. Unfortunately despite my sticker shock for the initial deep clean I hired them. I was assured the clean would be very deep - top of fridge, the dusty vent thing under the fridge, the grease on the stove hood, baseboards, EVERYTHING. She swore I would be amazed and understand the level of effort they would put in would be well worth it. Two people showed up. One was certainly in a hurry. They did not do half of the things we discussed, including the baseboards, wiping down the new tile wainscoting in the bathroom that had construction dust. Corners in the floor were missed, the kitchen floor was not scrubbed as promised. When I pointed several of these things out to one of the workers, she asked the other do re-do. The other lady got visibly upset and said she didn't have time to do it again cause she had to leave. So the first lady stayed behind and tried to re-do the floors and other missed areas I pointed out - all of which I specifically asked to be done in the beginning. After spending another hour she called her office. They decided that rather than finishing the job, they would knock $15 off. I would rather have had the work done. I was really disappointed, felt ripped off and taken advantage of - I'm generally willing to pay if the service is really great, but this was not. I would have understood if they missed obscure areas, but the standard stuff should have been done. I certainly did not hire them for regular service as I had hoped. I will keep looking. I am giving 2 stars because the one woman understood and tried to address the missed areas and some areas were well cleaned. Just the overall satisfaction is very low. read more

I used Casa Azul for about 6 months. At first, I was very happy with the service and told my friends. The price, $100 for 2 people for 2 hours, was reasonable and the girls did a thorough job. Bu after a time it wasn't consistent and occasionally there would be something not done. A bathroom wasn't touched in one visit. Most of the time I had the same 2 girls and I expected they'd get to know the house, but sometimes they just forgot what was to be done. Overall, I have no real complaints. One girl did tell me that they cleaned between 4 and 5 houses a day. If that's true, it's no wonder they try to finish as quickly as possible. I'm taking a break from having a cleaning service. I manage a 2 bedroom 2 bath flat in Berkeley. Found Casa Azul on Yelp so I called for a move out clean up after the tenant hadn't cleaned it enough to rerent it. Casa Azul owner quoted me $310 which I thought was kind of high but she said they'd be there 3 to 4 hours so I thought it would be worth it. 2 women came to clean. I told them I wanted to be sure the woodwork was cleaned, the stove (which was ok but not super clean) and bathrooms, kitchen sink etc. I am fluent in Spanish. I stayed in the property gardening for an hour then went in and looked around. It wasn't clean but I thought I wouldn't bother them maybe they hadn't done the downstairs yet. I left to get some lunch and 15 minutes later I got a text that they were done. I texted that I didn't think so and that I would be right back. I couldn't believe it when I walked in and they had apparently been done downstairs when I had looked at it before. I knew these women weren't being paid $75/hr each and this was a ridiculous ripoff plus the apt wasn't clean. Kitchen just the way the tenant left it etc. toilet bowl dirty under rim. I could go on. They called the owner when I very kindly said that there was no way I was paying $310 for an hour 1/2 of work from 2 people. The owner said she'd knock it down to $200 and I told her I'd pay $150 and she was lucky to get it. Frankly I'd would rather have had them clean it right. I ended up doing it myself and was pretty annoyed about it. Maybe I should hire myself out for $75/hr. I still can't believe it. read more

They only replied to our correspondence days later stating that they never told their cleaning crew about our appointment. There was no apology for their wrongdoing or offer to come back out at a discount. This is absolutely not how you run a business. I called Casa Azul for a move-out cleaning - the price was average for the area, but definitely cheaper than a lot of the local cleaning places that also have good reputations (err, yelp reviews). Two friendly ladies arrived right on time and got right to work, not finishing until the full time I had been quoted was up. The apartment was SPOTLESS, and they really cleaned every nook and cranny - drawers, my super deep/high cabinets and shelves, radiators, everything I rarely have the energy to clean well. Contacted Casa Azul for a deep cleaning at the family residence (two bedroom, one bath) I was getting married at in Tiburon. I was struck by all the existing positive Yelp feedback and high Google organic ranking - a good first sign. From the start, the staff was extremely helpful and booking my appointment over the phone. Efficient, friendly and responsible. I booked two cleanings, each took around 2 hours to more than satisfy the goal. What a knock out job they did. Every space in this residence was thoroughly cleaned and vacuumed. It's the mark of quality and integrity when even the non-visible spaces are paid attention to. They even cleaned the 50 or so deck chairs for the wedding. Love that. Moreover, the ladies that supported this effort were friendly, trustworthy, and effective. They are by far the most careful, responsible, dedicated, and detail oriented housecleaners I have ever come across other than myself. Isabel and her crew did a spectacular huge job for me in 2017 and once again in 2021. I just used her team for a move out cleaning. She was extremely respectful and attentive, as always, to my health challenges. She and her team showed up in KN 95 masks. They absolutely were in compliance with City of Berkeley policies regarding Covid, giving me no attitude or pushback about wearing of masks and wearing masks correctly. Remember that episode of Seinfeld where Jerry has that house cleaner that's so good that he even cleans the peephole on the door? I am super happy & satisfied with the great service that Isabel and her crew provided. Of the four firms that I contacted, only two called me back. The others replied via text. Of the two that called me back, only Isabel took a real interest and took the time to talk with me to figure out exactly what I needed and expected. She acted like she wanted my business. One had been occupied for over a decade and needed deep cleaning, including the appliances, and was the one that needed the majority of the work. We hired Casa Azul to clean a house we were about to move into. I am 8 1/2 months pregnant and my husband was working so we decided to splurge and pay instead of doing it ourselves. It was supposed to be 2 people all day for $350, or $25/person/hour There was only one person all day and a second person for just a few hours. Isabel (the owner) lied and said it was 2 people all day, then when pressed, she said it was 2 people for most of the day. Impossible, as I was at the house myself working on other things (which the owner did not realize). We asked that the light fixtures get cleaned. They said ok. They were not cleaned. We asked that the cupboards and drawers get thoroughly cleaned. They were not. The next day I cleaned the light fixtures and re-cleaned the kitchen, about a 6 hour job for a very pregnant woman. I had to vacuum the drawers out as there was so much gunk in them. I actually found rat poison spilled in a cupboard. One of many things that put this experience over the top was that I found a mummified dead rat in the broom closet. Yes, a rat. Not a mouse. It was huge and they missed it. I called Isabel and let her know that I shouldn't pay the full $350 when her workers were at my house for less time than promised, and after arguing with me about the service and the price she finally offered to come back and redo certain things, but tried to get me to pay them by the hour to return and do it right! I did not feel comfortable having these people in our house after she lied to me about her workers' hours, so I did not invite them to return. I was very unhappy with this experience, and hope someone benefits from this review. read more

I used Casa Azul for a move-out cleaning for my one bedroom apartment in Berkeley. Two professionals were supposed to come, but only one person came. She kept on talking on the phone while cleaning and complained to her friend in Spanish that it was sucio (dirty) -- like very loudly and multiple times. I mean, it kind of defeats the purpose of paying for professional cleaning service if things are limpio instead... Or maybe she didn't think I would understand Spanish. I feel bad. As for the cleaning itself, I thought it was ok-ish but then the cranky new tenant charged me for another cleaning service from a different company because he thought the move-out cleaning wasn't adequately done. Meh. So in other words, I was ok-ish with their cleaning but the new tenant guy didn't like it at all. He could have been a clean freak or a germapho. Or the cleaning could've been sub-par. Or a bit of both. Idk. Anyways, whatever was the case, I paid double the money for two cleanings so bad news for me & good news for both of you guys! :D read more
