The best! Everything about this experience with fantastic: from the moment we arrived, when you greeted by the chef and owner, who visited with us, and shared his story... To the food. We had their smoked salmon appetizer, which was the best single salmon dish I've had in my life. Amazing. We also had four different arroz dishes and all were outstanding! We had the seafood,, the seafood with squid Ink, the rabbit, and the pork--they were to die for! I also notably really liked their sangria... they put us in a private room and we had a great meal. Highly recommend

Food 10/10 Wow. I think I had the best salmon filet here, so tender and soft that it melted right in my mouth. The tomato salad was superb too. The complimentary bread came with butter scraped right from the barrel, apparently imported from the best butter maker in the world in France. They scraped the butter from the barrel right in front of our eyes and also cut the salmon at the table. The paellas were also very unique and had a modern twist. We ordered one that was rabbit meat and the other was ribs. Loved the crisp of the rice and the desserts too. Atmosphere 10/10 The absolute coolest interior decor ever, so creative and quirky elements were decorated all around. Very colorful light fixtures and walls, so many different rooms and themes too. Service 10/10 Very friendly and explained a lot about the history and design of the restaurant, they showed us three different seating options, and we opted for the one located in the corner of the main room next to the wine wall. Super careful with all the food and great show of mixing the paella.

Excellent food with a beautiful ambiance. The owner came out and personally talked to all his guest, a very nice touch to the dinning experience. The waiters and waitresses were always there on time every dish change. A must in Madrid if you can get a reservation! Thank you for an unforgettable experience!

One of the best meals we had in Madrid! Even our Uber ride dropping us off mentioned that this was the spot. The restaurant itself is very homey and has lot of family decor. The way you enter is also very interesting as you have to knock on their big door to be let in. As others mentioned in the reviews, smoked salmon dish is a must. Really great that they have half portion options that allowed us to try different things. Both types of paellas were so great. The service here is also very friendly and the owner himself takes the orders and has good recommendations based on your preference and liking.

EAT HERE IMMEDIATELY! I cannot recommend this quaint restaurant enough! The staff is amazing, caring and genuine. Impeccable service. They treat you like family. We felt so very welcome and like we were eating at a relatives home. Order the smoked salmon appetizer! Do not leave this place unless you order the salmon! WOW! It is so delicious. We had the Arroz Negro and the Arroz Iberia and both were so very good! The bread along with "special butter" was super good. The complimentary appetizers were also delicious and a very nice surprise. This was by far one of the best meals and experiences we had while in Spain! We will always have a special place in our hearts for Casa Benigna. Make a reservation and knock on the door as they keep it locked. It is not in the hustle and bustle of Madrid but a very easy cab ride. The owner arrange a cab for you after your meal too. I highly recommend this restaurant. Do not leave Madrid unless you have eaten here!

This place was phenomenal! The salmon (not pictured) was one of the best tasting dishes I've ever tried in my life. All the rices were crispy and so delicious. The service was incredible as well. I would go back to this place in a heartbeat.

Amazing experience at Casa Benigna. Family owned. Wonderful atmosphere. We started with the salmon appetizer, which was delicate and delicious. We were served bread and fresh butter. We had the seafood paella and the pork paella which were both wonderful! Service was great- friendly with great suggestions.

The decor is awesome in this restaurant. They were able to squeeze us in for lunch. We had to take the cab there since it wasn't close to our hotel. The paella was really different and good. It had a side of creamy garlic spread that we added to the paella. It made the paella taste even better. The service was also great from the staff.

I was looking for good spots to get paella near the stadium and somehow stumbled upon this gem. In the center of Madrid there is also great paella but also a lot of tourist trap paella that is super mediocre so I'm so thankful I found this spot online. This small restaurant is super adorable with amazing service, we showed up a little bit early for our reservation and they were able to see us after short weight which we really appreciated. They gave us some complementary vegetable crudites as well as a delicious complementary soup. I forget exactly what the name of the salad I ordered was but it had salted fish in it and I am still dreaming of the salad weeks later.....even if you aren't big on salted fish you HAVE to get it. The paella was also of course delicious, the super sweet waiters serve it to you directly from the special pan, and for those who aren't seafood people the chicken paella is really good. Highly recommend taking a Tour of the stadium and then walking over to the spot for a delicious lunch afterwards! Also for fellow English speakers who might be anxious about communication the staff was super nice and we were able to communicate super effectively with them!

Love this place! They serve great paella, so far the best one I've had in Spain after visiting five cities. They have 5 different flavors of paella and since I love squid ink I always ask them to make mine with squid ink. The GM/owner Edward was very friendly and accommodating. They serve imported French butter in buckets, I thought it's very interesting and fun to dig your own butter from a bucket. The service's great! Everyone here was very friendly. Make sure you make a reservation in advance. Also, they do open on Sundays! I've been here twice, once at night and once in the afternoon, I definitely enjoyed the afternoon experience more. Yelp's really weird, I'm unable to upload all the pictures. Try pasta with squid ink and seafood paella with squid ink, they are amazing!

Fun and interesting decorations and a peak into the kitchen!

Casa Benigna and its staff were absolutely wonderful! It was recommended to me by a Madrileño friend as having the best rice, and that was totally accurate. I will be dining here every future trip to Madrid. I dined alone tonight, as I am on a work trip, and the host (or possibly the owner?), a lovely and warm lady, could not have been kinder. I was trying to practice my Spanish, and she was so patient and attentive. The rest of the staff were helpful and prompt too. I can't speak more highly of their people. Now on to the food! Everything was fantastic and top quality. I ordered the tomato salad for a starter and the traditional chicken and vegetable paella for a main. I ate every bite. The flavor was great, and the rice was perfectly crispy. It was recommended to me, and I now highly recommend Casa Benigna!

I have to thank the Concierge Andrea at the Westin Palace! We asked for really great Paella and he recommended Casa Benigna. It's a little off the beaten path, about a 10 minute cab ride north of the center of Madrid. Has a very homey feel to it. There were a few complimentary starters, crudite, green olives, and delicious refreshing gazpacho. The butter is from France and comes to the table in a huge bucket. Our waiter Ryan could not have been any nicer, super attentive. He really recommended the house smoked salmon, and I have to say it was the most delicious bit of food I've had in Madrid. That's saying a lot because we've had some stellar meals here. The fish was incredibly moist and succulent with wonderful smokiness. My wife is not a big salmon fan but she said it was the best Salmon she ever had. Funny, cause we came for Paella. We ordered two types of Paella, seafood and chicken with vegetables. Both were really delicious. The portions were just right, and the cappuccino came with a tiny cup of warm dark chocolate to dip your cookie in. Everything was simply delightful. Even the salt was a flakey sea salt that had great character. In a city with thousands of great restaurants this one should not be missed.

Wow. My wife and I are visiting our son who is studying in Madrid for the semester. We wanted to take him and his two friends to dinner. We asked the owner of Mojie's (Luis) for the best Paella in Madrid. He said hands down Casa Benigna. Boy was he right! We had the hotel concierge make a reservation for us. It took a half hour cab ride to a remote road where the only sign for the restaurant is a Paella pan hanging from the awning. The door was locked when we knocked. It was answered by the owner Norberto who treated us like family. The atmosphere is so cozy, it feels like you are having dinner in his family's kitchen. Norberto is from Vallencia. He explained the history of Paella. The food was fantastic and the house wine was spectacular! Thank you Norberto for treating us like family!

Not sure how this place only has 3 stars... Monty's is excellent!…read more My wife and I found Monty's on that other trip site that advises people (why isn' Yelp bigger in Europe?). It was a bit out of our way, but we're glad we made the trek. Mi español no es bueno, but with the help of our waiter (and Google Translate) we made it work. This is easily 2 steps above bar tapas. We ordered these delicious fried goat cheese balls to start. Fantastic! (They served us 5, I ate the first one before I thought to take pictures. Lo siento!) Our mojitos were delicious. I ordered the Argentinian steak with truffled mashed potatoes. My wife had the pulled pork burger (or waiter, Manuel, used his limited English to make sure we understood this was pork not beef. Very helpful!) The pulled pork had some delicious fried queso and a side of fries (chips to ye Brits) Those of you who know me know that I am a steak lover. This steak was probably in the top 5 of my life. A beautiful piece of hanger steak, perfectly salted, you can taste the smoke from the grill. And the chef hit a proper medium. The prices were extremely reasonable for what we were served. Steak was under 10 Euros. In Massachusetts, that's a $25 plate all day long. Our whole bill, 2 drinks, an appetizer and 2 meals was less than 40 Euros. At the end of the meal, we managed to put together enough Spanish to ask for a cab. Another waiter came over, and explained in perfect English how we could catch one on the street, what the green light means, etc. Our experience at Monty's was a solid 5 stars! Cinco estrellas! Perfecto!

Took an out of town excursion and returned to Chamartin station around 3 pm so decided to walk…read moretowards the center until we found a place to have a late lunch. Luckily we came upon Pepe almost right away as it's not far from the station. Unlike when we were in Madrid 20+ years ago when you couldn't find any restaurants open after 3 until 7, they seem to serve food all day long now which is great as it's always better to have a late lunch rather than a late dinner. They have seating near the bar as well as in a covered deck area. We had burger, croquettes, spicy potatoes and of course, pimento peppers which I wanted to have as much as possible as there won't be any when I return home. The food was great and service friendly and cordial. Price very reasonable at about $50 for two with drinks.

I'll start by saying my experience ended by walking out after a single cerveza…read more Explanation, my family and I travel A LOT. I am the patriarch and my wife and I have 2 boys, ages 7 and 2. As many parents no doubt understand, eating out isn't always worth the hassle. But today is my birthday. And my wife has generously gifted me a lunch to myself. Meant to be a glorious hour filled with delicious food and drink. I was very excited. I chose Cerveceria Pepe as the location for this blessed event because it was right out the front door of our hotel and I wanted to maximize my limited "me" time. We'll start with the atmosphere. The view is nice if you're into that "eating under an overpass" type of ambiance. There's literally an overpass 100 feet away. I sat down around 12:15 and ordered a cerveza from a surly waiter who was flying around, setting tables and preparing for the day. There was another table seated on the terrace and several customers inside the restaurant. I asked for a menu and the aforementioned sour demeanour-ed waiter looked at me like he had no idea what I was talking about. I asked again and he grunted and nodded his head toward a sandwich-board plaquared standing on the edge of the street. I should provide more context here. I speak a bit of Spanish, but I'm certainly not fluent. I find it to be enough to get by, if the person I'm speaking to is willing to work with me a bit. For example, I know that the Spanish word for "menu" is "menu". So there's little reason for the guy to be annoyed by my use of English, at least not yet. I'm also more than willing to try to speak the native language and I spend weeks before I travel learning basic words and phrases on Duolingo. Again, not fluent, but I make an effort. And I lived most of my life in Florida, where Spanish is a second language. Back to the review, sandwich board menu has a (1) with a list of Spanish words, followed by a (2) and Spanish words, then "pan, postres, y cafe". Through my brilliant powers of deduction I am able to discern that this is a 2 course menu, one selection from each category, including bread, dessert, and coffee. I'm even more excited for my birthday lunch! I Google all of the Spanish words to get detailed descriptions of the dishes and make my selections for the coming feast. I wave over the waiter, a new face from the earlier poor mannered camarero. I first establish that my assumptions concerning the "pick one from each column" format are correct. "Si, a la una." OK, just 1 from each column. I understand. "A la una." Yes, it's just me. I only need one meal. "A la una." Much more forceful this time. Um. OK? So I can only select 1 item on the list? "A la una." Very forceful. Almost aggressive. Borderline yelling at me. Then he turns on his heels and walks away. I realize after he leaves the meaning of "A la una". At 1 o'clock. But this doesn't erase my negative experience to this point. And why would I pay to be treated in such a fashion. So I pony up for the beer and go next door to enjoy what I found to be a much more friendly atmosphere. In my experience "a la" can mean "of" or even a type of something, a way of preparing a food, etc. Had the word "hora" been used, I would have figured it out. I have encountered many Spanish speakers in the US and I typically try my best to communicate with them. I certainly would not become obviously frustrated and walk away in a huff, especially if I was in the service industry. Maybe you're reading this thinking, "Well, learn the language". Fair enough. And if that's what you're thinking, then this review is not for your benefit. But there are plenty of people out there exactly like me. And they'd prefer an experience where they don't walk away feeling belittled when they've made their best effort.
