Our daughter just moved to this area and we wanted to take her & our other daughter out to a nice place for lunch. We saw this restaurant had good reviews so decided to give it a try. When looking at the menu, the prices were outrageous, but thought the food must be really good! The restaurant doors were locked when we arrived around 11:30, even though their website said they opened at 10:00. I like to support local restaurants but this one was horribly disappointing! We were the only customers in the restaurant and service was extremely slow. There was only one employee we saw, the one who unlocked the door for us and turned out to be our waitress. She was polite, but very slow in getting our drink order, food order, and ticket. I could have understood understaffing, but as mentioned, we were the only customers in the place. When our food came, I was almost embarrassed for our waitress. The food hardly filled our plates. I ordered a chicken dish where the chicken breast had been split in half. It was tough and hard to cut and and chew. It was maybe the size of a small burger, very small and about 1/4 of an inch thick! According to the menu description, it was supposed to be marinated. It tasted like the "marinade" was ketchup mixed with a little Tabasco. Other plates were very skimpy on food. Burritos and enchiladas were small and almost almost laid flat on the plates. I guess I could deal with it better if the cost was about ¼ of the price we paid. No drinks for 4 totaled, with tip, around $80.00!! Will never go to this place again! I typically don't do reviews but this experience was completely "over the top" bad in all areas. We all left feeling cheated, and hungry! Don't waste your money here! read more

Tried this place for the first time. The server was nice and Food was ok. I ordered a Medium Combo plate with beef and beans and a carnita chimichanga. I wanted the burrito smothered but she said it was a red sauce and if I wanted green it was an up charge. In Colorado who smothers burritos in a red sauce! ‍. The chimichanga was dry had only carnitas and nothing else. I assumed it came from smothered but it did not. Beans had no flavor, rice was ok. My husband had the fajitas which were good but the menu said tortillas upon request. Don't fajitas come with tortillas ‍. Probably will not come back. read more

We were seated immediately and had great service throughout our visit. The food was good but could be improved. Small combo plate with chicken taco, rice & beans: we got a soft taco that was served in a single corn tortilla. This single tortilla fell apart quickly which I think is why tacos like this are usually served with a double tortilla if corn is being used. The rice & beans were great! Chicken taquitos: they were served with sauce on top and lost most of their crunchiness which is what makes a taquito so great. The chicken was great but the sauce should be served on the side. Let's start with the service. Our waitress was very nice and patient, but I believe the manager or owner was extremely rude and disrespectful. I ordered the seafood tower but was told they only had shrimp and fish, no octopus. It took about 45 minutes for our food to come out. My son's pollo asada plate was one of the saddest dishes I've seen. It came with two small, dry chicken breasts and some rice. The rice was okay, but the portion was disappointing. As for my seafood tower, I tried one shrimp and it wasn't fully cooked through the lime. When I brought this up, the manager or owner reacted very rudely instead of trying to resolve the issue. Overall, the food was poor, the wait was long, and the attitude from management was unacceptable. I had to make a Yelp account just to share my extreme displeasure with this experience. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone and I honestly don't understand how it has the reviews it does. We've lived in the Carbon Valley area for over 20 years but hadn't tried this restaurant yet. I had heard good things. The food was "okay." But unfortunately what stuck out in my head was walking in at noon on a Saturday and the inside of the restaurant absolutely wreaked of weed. Like... whatever I don't care if people partake in that, but I DO NOT want to smell it, nor do I want my kid to, for an early weekend lunch. Truly the best joint in town! The food is always incredible from the chips and salsa to the mole or the seafood fajitas. The staff is always kind and make it an effort to get to know you! They also have super yummy margaritas if that's what you're into. read more

People wanting to support a family restaurant with excellent service and delicious food will head to Casa Cortes! I have been there three times to have the Birria tacos. Granted I have never had them anywhere else but if you strike gold the first time why would you search anywhere else? The salsa is my favorite! It is spicy but flavorful. The servers are attentive and friendly. The reason I came for lunch today was on the recommendation of my server who suggested I might prefer the lunch portion. One time I visited during the dinner rush and expected a wait from the look of the packed parking lot and still was seated immediately. It's Saturday night - a hankering hits HARD for a margarita and some chips and salsa. We've all been there, right? Problem is - small town living leaves few options. Enter: Yelp with an introduction to a *new Mexican joint nearby (*- we don't get out often so I'm not sure how new it really is). Not many reviews but overwhelmingly positive for the ones that have been shared. Nice! Packed the kids up (along with the husband) and headed down the road. There was no wait at 615p which is always nice, especially with kids in tow. Friendly service was there to take drink orders straight away - however they don't have a drink menu so we were kind of at a loss regarding ordering margaritas. Coin or house? On the rocks? Tequila...I dunno, añejo? Small medium or large (without knowing the cost)? Seems silly but again, we don't get out much. Couldn't think of the name of a tequila we'd want in our marg. Made me feel 21 again so perhaps not all that bad - heh. I got a blended peach margarita which was tasty but not strong at all - like, questionable if it had any tequila. When the owner/manager came around to check on us, I mentioned this and he immediately brought over asmall amount of tequila to add which made such a difference. And what service!! Also, the medium is a good size... the large must be a bucket! Lol They have tons of options - as do many Mexican restaurants - however I felt like they have some truly unique entrees including my husband's choice: Mojarra (a whole fried tilapia). It was excellent! They had octopus and prawns too. Even the more traditional fare was a bit creative. I got the Pregnant Burrito which was a crispy chile relleno inside of a burrito and it was so good! Their chips and salsa were also awesome and really hit the spot. A small detail but one I appreciate - the chips are served warm and the salsa is the right amount of spicy. Overall, we were really happy with our meal and I'll be happy to come back! Walking in you could feel the family being very welcoming. They saw my service dog and thr owner and his wife, I think? Wanted to know more information and to get better educated about having a service dog. That was a welcome relief. Pros: We got the chips and salsa, which the salsa had a kick to it which made it great. Great flavor. I ordered a 2 item combo of a beef chimichanga and a cheese crispy rellano. Husband ordered a Mexican hamburger. Food came out hot and quickly. Cons: My chili rellano wasn't cheese but spinach. It would have tasted outstanding except for that 1 ingredient. But otherwise no issues with food, drinks, or service. Recommended? Yes. Great family atmosphere and friendly with the customers. read more

Disappointing. The food was OK, although nothing spectacular. But the bill! We ordered the Small Combination Plate, priced at $12.95 plus $1.35 upcharge for the green chili. Then the waitress came to tell us that they were out of green chili, would we like to choose a different topping, which she listed (with no mention of a higher upcharge for some). Although disappointed at the lack of green chili we selected the queso. Imagine our surprise when we got the bill and those small combination plates were billed at $18.40 each!! We got robbed (and yes, we did ask the waitress about it and she said that her manager told her that was the amount to charge and she didn't have any way to change it)--even with a $3.95 upcharge for the queso we were grossly overcharged. I have heard more bad than good about this place... but a huge believer to "see for yourself".. this is one of those times I wish I didn't see it for myself! This was our FIRST and LAST time!!! Once we got seated, took forever to get anyone to notice us. Ordered our food, took almost 45min to an hour to get our food.. food was gross. The burrito I got looked un-appealing the second our sever put the plate down. My steak looked like tofu. My beans and rice were cold. My husbands burrito was also gross and neither of us could stomach to finish even half of our food. On top of that, his burrito had shrimp in it that still had the tails on them! In a burrito!! Kids chicken nuggets were Dino nuggets (which they loved) but also mixed in with some other weird looking chicken nuggets! Our sever said "she couldn't do anything about the bill, but she could give us free soda"... we couldn't get out of there fast enough! read more

I'm from Texas and Mexican food is my jam. I'm a fierce critic and expect excellence. I was not nor will you be disappointed. It's the hole in the wall we want to find. The restaurant doesn't face the street making you wonder where it is but once you turn in you will see plenty of cars which is always a good sign. The salsa is homemade and spiced to perfection. I had the tortilla soup but only could eat a few bites I was full from the queso, chips and homemade corn tortillas. It will be lunch tomorrow. We also had chicken fajitas and marinated beautifully. We were staying in Westminster for the weekend and decided to "yelp it" to see where the best Mexican food was in the area. We found it! There's something pretty great, as a foodie, to find a place like this that we definitely wouldn't have stumbled upon, as it's off the beaten path a bit. We were greeted at the door like family, had barely sat down, and had great chips and salsa and water immediately. Alex, our server, was "on it" throughout our dinner, providing recommendations, which we took, and made sure we had what we needed. I'm honestly not sure I've had better service (with a smile!) anywhere, and come to find out that it's a family owned restaurant, so Ruben the owner (and Alex's uncle), came and chatted with us for a bit. Wow! The food is fabulous! First off Rueben has an amazing memory and didn't write anything down from our tables order and got everything right food came out fast, salsa was very yummy! The plates were enormous, the Mexican pizza appetizer was huge, the Queso with chorizo was also large portion, no tiny bowls at this place. The pork tacos were overstuffed with meat, the two combo plate, we both had chili releno, beef burrito, rice and bean were amazing spicy and also very big portion. Was excited to try this restaurant nearby it got good reviews on Next door we ordered online paid on booking.com said would be ready in 15 minutes headed that way but got caught back up due to an accident by Safeway so arrived 30 later they had not even started our order yet. Waited 15 to 20 minutes for order rushed home since we needed to be somewhere shortly. To find on our dinners were completely missing that was paid for there was no way to get back there to have it corrected with our time frame.
