I really really want to give Casa d'Paco a 5 star, but the service was really subpar in comparison to the food. I was so excited to come, but am really disappointed by the service. If I only wanted good food, I could have had it delivered. By going out to a restaurant, I would also like to have a good ambience and service. We came here on a Thursday night after a long work shift. We called around 8 pm for a reservation at 9pm. Parking was difficult as we could only find street parking after circling the block several times. However we did see some people double park, but didnt want to take the risk. After checking in with the hostess we waited for about 20 minutes until seated. This was no problem as the mood was light and fun. They also had a small seating area to hang out and wait before getting seated. COVID-wise, tables are not socially distant but you are expected to wear masks when not seated. There are also hand sanitizer bottles at each table. Servers all wear masks as well. In regards to our food, we ordered the sirloin tips, shrimp gumbo, patatas bravas, and pulpo. Our shrimp gumbo never arrived, so I can only review the other foods: Sirloin tips: the actual red meat seemed a little tough, but the mushrooms and shrimp that came along with it were very well seasoned and so good to have alongside the side of bread. Patatas bravas: I wondered why this was such a popular side cause its essentially a different type of fries, but the spicy alioli really makes a difference. It has a real kick, differing from other "spicy" aoilis I have tried. I def recommend this! The sauce makes it super special. Pulpo: absolutely fantastic. These octopus were very well cooked and perfectly tender, not chewy at all. You could taste the olive oil and paprika was not too overpowering. Passionfruit sangria: so our waitress recommended us mango sangria which we ordered, but we received a passionfruit sangria (as appeared on our check as well). But regardless, we dont discriminate our sangrias, and this was delicious with actual palatable alcohol. If you dont know what drink to order, id recommend their sangrias! Now the killer of this review, is the service. I really wanted to give our server the benefit of the doubt, but despite this, i really was disappointed because i had such high expectations (esp since the food was so good). We ordered shrimp gumbo, pulpo, sirloin tips, patatas bravas, and mango sangria. We received passionfruit sangria and did not receive the shrimp gumbo. Our waitress was very hard to get a hold of, and did not come to check on us until we had almost finished our other three dishes. She was very hurried and it felt as if she just didnt want to wait on us. Again, we didnt want to make a big deal and aren't those kinds of people, so we didnt mention that our shrimp never arrived. However, when we received the check, we mentioned that it never arrived so that it could be taken off our check (and also requested for a to go box for our leftovers). Without an apology, the server said she would amend it and whisked the check and card away. She returned with an amended check, but no take out container. It's at this moment I realized my boyfriend had originally wanted dessert (flan), but due to the server's hurriedness, he felt that it was not worth it to ask for it. In all, this is why I cant give a higher review than a 3 star. The food and ambience was great with cute outdoor seating, but the service really bombed the mood of our evening. Upon walking in on a Saturday night for an 830 dinner reservation, I already notice this place was buzzing. I follow the restaurant on social media site,but ultimately decided to celebrate my son's birthday here due to the great reviews on Yelp. And I must say..... I AM NOT DISAPPOINTED AT ALL. We had to wait a little while to get the hostess as she was clearly doing double duty as the hostess and waitress. After about 10 minutes waiting to check in, the hostess was back and took our name. We were seated in another 5 minutes. Our waitress arrived shortly there after for our orders. We started with a large pitcher of passion fruit sangria. It was tasty with the right amount of alcohol. She too was very busy as I did not recall seeing another waitress assisting, just bustboys. We ordered the pulpo a Galega(octopus), chorizo criollo and patatas bravas (potatoes). All were very delicious! I thoroughly enjoyed the spicy aioli sauce that accompanied the patatas bravas. I would have loved to purchase a jar for home..... It was that good. The octopus was seasoned very well and not dry at all. For dinner we ordered the langosta Rellena (OMG delicious), chuleton Casa d'Paco (good) and shared a paella since we devoured the tapas. We ended our night with a butterscotch cake and a chocolate cake for the birthday people. Overall, a really good experience. Masks were required to walk to table and/or restrooms. Casa d'Paco - Three Meals in Two days This review is a story of discovery, friendship, and a terrific restaurant. I rarely give rave reviews and even more rarely write a long one, but this review of Casa d'Paco will be the exception. I picked up my close friend at Newark Airport at 12:30pm the day before we planned to go to a Devils game. I had looked on Yelp for a place to eat before the game and decided to drive to check it out beforehand. We saw a place to park and decided to grab a light lunch. I will go into the dishes in a bit, but in summary, the food, the service, the decor and value was phenomenal. In retrospect, there are over 660 pictures of the Casa d'Paco dishes posted on Yelp; that should have been a hint as to what we might expect. The next morning I realized that I had left my favorite jacket at the restaurant. OH NO! I called Casa d'Paco and sure enough, they had it. Relieved to know I hadn't lost my jacket, I asked my friend who shared lunch with me the day before if she would mind driving down to Newark again to retrieve my jacket. We both wanted to try some different items on the lunch menu. This time we sat at the bar and asked the bartender, Will, for food and drink recommendations. OMG - it was even better than the day before! As we spoke to Will and Rino about returning later that night we thought, "Hey, why not skip the game, and invite some close friends to Paco's and make a night of it". We took to our smartphones and started calling friends, posting reviews and uploading pictures. Our friends thought it was a bit "unusual" to ask them to drop their plans for that night and travel over an hour to try a restaurant in Newark. They were skeptical, but we came up with a plan to rendezvous in the parking lot of the Short Hills Mall and carpool down to Newark. We promised to make it an early night for everyone (we lied). Your best friends are always the crazy ones. Casa d'Paco is tucked away on a neighborhood side street far away from the hustle of Ferry Street. The restaurant has a warm feel of a neighborhood tavern. The attention to detail can be seen in woodwork of the bar and the ceiling, it is noticeable and impressive. The lunch crowd consisted of regulars, young professionals and locals. The Thursday evening clientele was a vibrant group of all ages that I can best describe as regulars, foodies and revelers dressed for an evening out on the town. The crowd is up beat, stylish, and eclectic. A word about the staff. In two days we met Jorge, Sam, Reno, Will, Angel and a few others whose names we didn't catch. We later learned Angel was the founder and owner. EVERYONE was professional, knowledgeable and showed an exuberance that you only occasionally find in the best family-owned restaurants. Make sure you ask the staff to recommend a tapas and a bottle of wine. Speaking of wine, the wine list is very reasonably priced and we enjoyed (loved) every recommendation. The Casa d'Paco house red was perfectly matched for a mix of tapas and meals we ordered. They also offer Spanish beers on tap that are beyond good. Now the food. I'll start you off by saying everything was fresh, perfectly prepared, and very good. We had an opportunity to try a lot of menu items over three days with four people. In no particular order, we especially enjoyed the Grilled Octopus, the Baby Squid, the Chicken Empanadas, the Stuffed Sea Scallops (with shrimp), Tips de Filet Mignon, the Spanish Cheese and Chorizo plate and the fresh bread and sweet butter. (Short breath) The Avocado and Crab dip with toast, the Papas and dip, Bambas Barcelona, the brilliant house olives and olive oil....and the Flan. OH the Flan!!! Needless to say, we didn't get home early that evening. What a terrific time we all had. I can't wait to try other items on the menu. As soon as we can, I'm rushing out to my favorite restaurants with Casa d' Paco on the top of my list. Here's why Casa d' gets 3 stars and not 5. Food is great in flavor and served quickly. The passion fruit sangria is a customer favorite and I recommend. For a total of $32.00 you'll get a large pitcher that'll give you about 4 glasses each (2 people) There's fun music playing and a lot of space with lit signs and the famous bull for pictures. Here's where Casa fails to meet the 5 stars. More than once, I found they have tried to sneak charges onto the bill thinking customers wouldn't notice a $14.00 charge. Then when you notice and ask them to change it, they've already charged your card and cannot give you the refund in cash. It's a mess. It's disorganized. I'm updating my review because I'm super impressed with the customer service. I went back to this restaurant after leaving my initial review which was overall, positive but I did have a few critiques. Admittedly, I'm a tough critic and place a high value on customer service. When I returned to the restaurant, to my surprise, it almost seemed like management read my review and actually addressed all of my critiques. For example, I initially complained that although delicious, the 2 scallops weren't enough and it should come with more considering most ppl share the tapas. When I returned, lo and behold, their were 3-4 delicious scallops on the plate! That made me so happy! Also, I recommend that that the valet have some sort of identification or clothes that indicate he was indeed the valet for the restaurant because on my 1st is it it was super confusing. Again, when I returned the second time, the valet was wearing clothes that were clearly indicative that he worked for the restaurant. Although my review likely had nothing to do with the changes, I have to commend management for caring about feedback from their customers and actually addressing customers concerns. It's shows they really care about their customers and that they are good at running a business. That reason alone is enough for me to return again and again. If management keeps running their business this way and keeping the customer happy, I anticipate that this place will expand! Not to mention, the staff is also so welcoming and friendly despite normally being super busy. The second time I went it was a bit crowded so we sat at the bar. Aquacate Relleno, Salmon a la plancha and the Pulpo Galega. Had a very reasonably priced bottle of Albarino--brand bottled as "Paco Luca" and worth more than the $25 they'll charge for a full bottle. So that's a good thing. Got out for just under $100 and it was worth it. Plus the servers and staff are all very up and enthusiastic. So there's a neat energetic feel to the place and you'll find yourself being part of the fun environment that adds a cool kick to the experience. Casa d'Paco is a small restaurant located in the ironbound section of Newark. It's directly in the midst of various homes on a narrow street that's quite difficult to find parking on. They have a parking lot which is very small located right next to the restaurant. When we entered the establishment, it took a minute or 2 to be acknowledged but we flagged down the server/host and was quickly seated after that. We started off with the patatas bravas as an appetizer: crispy fried potatoes cut into squares that came with a delicious spicy sauce. I decided on the langosta rellena as a main course. It was a full lobster stuffed with crabmeat and included roasted veggies (absolutely delicious!) and homemade chips. I didn't care for the crabmeat stuffing probably because it tasted as though it had cheese. The lobster was amazing- cooked to perfection and the chips were pretty good too. My guest had salmon which I understand was equally delicious. I ordered dessert- the cookie with chocolate filling and whipped cream -it was amazing!!! A+++++++ All in all, the food was stupendous! The service was pretty good as well; but there are a few improvements needed in the service itself. The croquetas marisco are at the top of the list; They're crispy outside, soft inside, filled with delicious shellfish and generally to die for. If you come here, you must have them. The quesadilla castillo sounds basic enough (short rib quesadilla) but the beef is so ridiculously juicy, tender, and flavorful that this dish is also a complete and total can't-miss item. The patatas bravas are similarly an exceptionally good version of the dish, with the potatoes nice and crisp, and the aiolis over the top flavorful, creamy and delicious. The two that perhaps weren't up to the very high level of the other three items were the chicken empanadas, which were just kind of standard empanadas, and the churrasco, which was certainly a lot of food, but I found to be badly needing some additional salt or other seasoning. Was invited back by the owner, Angel, after my boyfriend and I didn't have such a good experience the first time around which we really appreciated! This time around the service and the food was impeccable! We started off by ordering the Patatas Bravas which was really tasty and served as a great starter dish. Afterwards we went with the Garlic Shrimp which blew us AWAY! The shrimp was cooked to perfection and the garlic sauce itself was worth eating on its own or even better paired with bread. As our main dish, we ordered the Paella which was extremely delicious and by far the best paella I've had... This dish alone can serve up to 2 very hungry adults or even a group of 3! (Our 3 dishes were certainly 5/5 and I would extremely recommend ordering all 3) For drinks: we had Sangria and Pinot Grigio which we're very good and to top off our dinner we had cream shots which was coffee based and tasted really good All in all, we're extremely happy we gave this place another chance and we'll for sure be coming back again! read more

Therefore ordering the pitchers in sets of two or more worked better. Never got the water I asked for when taking the beverage order. Understandable that tapas will come out back to back yet the fish meal took so long that everyone was either done or halfway done with their meals when it finally came out.
