Solid little spot very close to the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ! Garlic chicken app was spot on Portuguese style. I had chicken and shrimp Marsala with chips and rice...excellent! My wife had fish and chips and she said it was great! Perfect spot to get some food before an event because you can walk right to a less crowded entrance for the Rock!

This place is a solid 3 for me based on the clear balance of pros and cons. Pros: - A very short walk from the Prudential center so this is a great choice for meals before a show. A lot of parking lots are also close by - The service here is very friendly and prompt - The ambiance is dated but still warm and inviting in an old school way - Some of the food was decent and their chips were pretty good Cons: - This place is very expensive. The $50 steak for instance was fine, but relative to the price you can get a lot better in other places. - To that point, some of the food like the calamari was just very average. The chicken and garlic was ok. - When you order a few entrees and appetizers and a $50 pitcher of sangria, throw in the tip (which was added to our party of 4) and also a 3.5% credit card charge they also add, this adds up to a very hefty bill Again, this place is ok, but relative to the price vs value ratio, I'm not sure if it is truly worth it.

Saw the price tag but quickly realized why - portions are huge! Everything was good, even the octopus was properly prepared, which is a sign of the chef's skill. Lamb chops were twice the portion I expected, as was one of the fish dishes my group ordered. Upstairs dining room is great for groups and very welcoming. Suits of armor are a nice touch up the stairs, if a bit odd if you're not expecting it.

My friend and I dined here before J Balvin's concert at Prudential. The music was fun, the chicken Caesar salad was delicious, and the servers were really nice. I'd love to come back some time and try their drinks! There was a sign on the table advertising ladies night on Wednesdays for 30% off drinks

Grilled veggie wrap + Spanish fries

The area around Penn Station has no shortage of phenomenal Spanish restaurants, in the Ironbound and on the other side of the highway. Chateau of Spain just doesn't make the cut, though. We came in for dinner before a show at QXTs: neither of us looking for anything too heavy, we both went with a grilled veggie wrap + Spanish fries. The menu spans the usual fare (veggies/seafood/poultry in garlic sauce, steaks, paella) and some more Mexican focused dishes (fajitas). The veggie wraps, filled with grilled mushrooms + squash + onions + eggplant + spinach, weren't bad but could've been improved by some bolder (and more garlicky) flavour. Service, even on a busy evening, was polite and attentive

Food was very fresh and delicious. Wish I took more pictures. I also ordered the Pulpo Vinaigrette style for my appetizer. That very refreshing if you love octopus I would recommend that! The servers were very friendly and welcoming. Food came out at a timely pace. Would definitely go back there again.

We were given a recommendation to this wonderful restaurant from the Marriott front desk before seeing Chris Tomlin at the Prudential Center. So glad she did. The wait staff is extremely warm & friendly. The food was excellent. I had stuffed filet of sole with garlic veggies as side. So, so good. My bride has chicken wings and collards. The chicken was moist and the fried breading was light. Another winner. The ambiance is a bit loud with table talk however it goes to show how great this place is.... Most tables were full. Before your visit to the Prudential Center, we recommend this place only 3 blocks away.

    Fried Chicken with "saffron" rice
    J E.

Ever seen an authentic Spanish joint with fried chicken on the menu? Neither have I! But that was the only decent food here and that's not saying much. A friend and I stopped in for dinner, it wasn't busy at all on the weeknight we went. Sat near the bar and started with their shrimp in garlic sauce, which was bland, definitely nothing like the real Gambas al Ajillo you'd get from an authentic Spanish restaurant. This version had frozen shrimp which weren't very good and the sauce was bland, no spice and hardly any garlic. Based on this and the pics I saw online, I opted for fried chicken for my entrée. Their fried chicken was hardly battered, mostly just fried chicken skin with a very lite, unflavorful dredge, if any dredge at all. Their "saffron" rice had color, but no flavor. Their black beans were also rather flavorless. Thankfully they had decent hot sauce, because that's what I used to give my dinner flavor. Service was adequate. Definitely would never return here. I'm sure this place is run by Spanish folks, they just de-flavored their food and use not-so-fresh ingredients that it just really negatively affected the flavors and overall experience.

The place id located at the side street right to the City Hall. It is quiet and was pretty empty for Sunday afternoon. The food was not great, also, I got wrong side even they double-check the order. The beer was also not the IPA i ordered, but probably a regular peroni. However, -10% if you check in on Yelp!

There was no way for me to make a reservation online so I took my chance. I was there with two other people and we were lucky to get enough to get there when we did. The place started to get packed quickly. We got a table on the top floor (there is a bottom floor). Our waitress/bartender CiCi was great. She was busy but still attentive. We got Louie Char Grilled Oysters, thai chili wings Catfish nuggets, fries and burger with fries. For drinks, we got blueberry lemon drop martini and margaritas. Both drinks were tad a bit too tart and not strong enough. Our food was delicious. Though I wish the fries were shoestrings fries and it they had a parmesean truffle option. He's the main bartender and he has a terrible attitude. I came in here for about four or five Fridays in a row because my job is right down the block. The buffet is pretty good sometimes. It really is Hit or Miss. The buffet was fantastic some days, but then other days the buffet had barely any food that was good. The buffet is all you can eat and it's $20 if you don't get steak. If you want steak with your buffet, it's 25 and the steak is unlimited. I only got the steak once and it was kind of dry. The food was good but what really turned me off was the service. The man behind the bar has such a bad attitude and we came in here five Fridays in a row and he never really greeted us. He would kind of grunt and throw menus right in front of where we were sitting .I could tell by the way he served us and looked at us that he didn't like me and my partner. Even on our receipt he would write Americans on it. I guess because we weren't Portuguese he didn't respect us. We would leave good tips every time and try to talk to the waitresses and him even using Google translate to try and have a conversation. He just had the most terrible attitude I've ever experienced at a restaurant. We would come in here Friday at around 12:00 and it would be dead. Probably because everybody knows this place sucks. Last Friday when we arrived there was a carpenter cutting into the walls making a terrible loud noise. I even had to tell him hey it's lunch time. You should be doing this work in the morning. I really wanted to leave but we were there to eat and I didn't want to look for another place. I ordered picana which is a typical Portuguese steak. It came super dry and very thin. The only great dish I've ever had here was there their yucca soup. That was terrific. My partner raved about their garlic shrimp. I would not return, especially since we found a place called Sol-mar right around the corner. Better food and way better service. I think the Bartender needs to learn how to serve Americans and not just Portuguese people. I would never return to this restaurant.

Now I have a thing when people say "it's just next door" or "it's right down the street." What did George Dubya say? Fool me once and it's shame on you, fool me twice and the shame is mine for getting us into a war based on lies and greed?" Yeah something like that. Anyways, I typically don't believe when people say something is close so whenever I visit her we just order in delivery rather than motivate (ie put on a bra) and go out. But dang it this is literally. Right. Next. Door. As in I can sit on the deck outside of the restaurant and look in her living room. Smh. I say all that to say IVE BEEN MISSING OUT!! Her bday was this weekend so she booked a large table for family and friends. I was relieved to see they had valet. Parking is atrocious in this development so to only pay $10 to be 10 feet from the door was awesome. The restaurant itself is beautiful and the staff know her well and treated her as a valued guest. Here's the rundown: We went for BRUNCH. They have a prix fixe for $41 of most of the brunch items and it includes 2 Bellini, 2 mimosas, or 2 Bloody Marys. Good right? Welp what you don't know is that their cocktail menu is incredible so to heck with the prix fixe. We got mimosas at home!! Between the 10 of us we got cocktails, appetizers, entrees, desserts, coffee. Highlights: -Service was spectacular. Wesley was On It! By the time we finished eating there was another party of 10+ seated right behind us that he was servicing. I hope he enjoys the reward$ of his hard work! Make it rain on em Wesley! -Fat friendly seating. No arms, solid chairs, comfortable cushions. We were there for 4 hours and my booty was never sore. -Food. We tore it up and it was all delicious. My half of the table had the farm house breakfast sando, the fried chicken sando, French omelette, huevo rancheros. We shared the crab hush puppies, wings, calamari, goat cheese salad, and blueberry pancakes. I was nosey and saw that some of my other table mates ordered the skirt steak and eggs and the short rib. -Drinks. I know my husband loves mango so I suggested he get the smoked mango drink. I didn't know it came with theatrics. Dinner and a show?! Btw by the time our table was done almost everyone had ordered one. Lychee martini, Paloma, old fashioned, midnight espresso. Also all very good! -The View. Our party was too large to sit outside but we did sit right at the floor to ceiling windows. In between birthday wishes and food comas we watched the boats, jet skis, and undulating waves of the Hudson. Previous posters are correct - the place is pricey. But high key the people who live in that area are already paying a premium for everything else sooooo. Now, I DONT live in that area lmao so this will be a rarer treat for me. But I was happy to celebrate my cousin's birthday in a place that she loves. Awesome experience - I look forward to returning! 10/10 would put on a bra for this and walk downstairs lol

It's not the best food I've ever had but it tasted pretty good and was a much-needed meal before a long international flight. I will say the workers gave me a weird vibe which made the whole experience much less great. They would come by occasionally to fill up my water or check in, which is great. But a few of them were standing in the corner of the bar (which is in the middle of the restaurant and I was sitting at the bar) and they were complaining, very indiscreetly, about work and some other management at the airport. Now, I understand there are things that aren't great at every job and I don't mind people ranting about it, but there's a time and place. They could've and should've had that conversation in a more private area instead of out where all the customers were.
