We love staying here-especially before cruises. The view is spectacular, the retro rooms are fun - and unique upgrades possible! So convenient to everything! Check-in with Terra & Melissa was a breeze this time - friendly faces after a long day & drive (that included a flat tire & replacement)... I needed those smiles. Booked this location because the restaurant was gorgeous. Upon arriving for our 1 night stay we parked on the opposite side from the restaurant and immediately you could smell something we didn't do. There were a ton of people outside and had to go looking for the front desk which is in the back. Walked through a door that had an empty room that looked abandoned. Got checked in and when we found out where our room we immediately left. Men outside outlet door smoking and drinking. If this is your vide you would love it but our small family wasn't a fan. We were also double charged and had to call multiple times for a refund. I will say at check-in in the lady was amazingly sweet and helpful. This just isn't a place I would recommend, maybe a day pass at the pool but not to sleep. read more

Gnats all over the room. Wet spots throughout the carpet. One of our towels was still dirty. Phone in the room doesn't dial to the front desk. Shower curtain has possible mold on the bottom. Not to mention that the dust everywhere. Theres no house keeping you have to request it the night before. Since there's no house keeping I asked for a broom to sweep up something that was spilled and the broom looked years old and had a dust ball and roach attached to it. The good thing about this hotel is that it's got a pool front with a bar/restaurant with phenomenal poolside food. And it's on the seawall most importantly so you could walk to the beach and the breakfast is OK. But as for the rooms? Trashy as hell for how much they're charging stains on the walls. You can't walk around the room without socks on because your feet will be dirty as hell just a typical beachside kind of hotel. It was OK. I did kill a few tiny roaches. But this is the most honest review I can give. read more

it starts with just trying to get there. I was at the restaurant and no one could explain to me how to get to the hotel which was two blocks away then when I get there, Terra is just nasty and has no Customer Service skills. I had to change rooms two times because I kept getting locked out due to the handles being messed up spent over an hour waiting. Then a big guy comes door and they watch me make several trips changing rooms and don't even help me there were roaches in the room. The are filthy outside. I ended up being in a room that was not and they only refunded me $28. I was there for three nights my whole first night should be refunded. The pool is amazing. However it is filthy. The bartender was very cool, but I to her how I had been sick and she touched my food with her hand to throw it and I had to remind her that I was sick and she should wash her hands so it was not a day the beds are very but not in a good way you can the springs underneath where the breakfast was. There was no spot to sit so you had to eat outside where it was 98° there were ants crawling around which ruined my appetite. read more

I had a hard time writing this as it seems the place is a real icon in the community. But it also seems they have a clientele that comes back for nostalgia and it feeds the business quite well. That said the place was a let down. Very bland food that could've been better. The tile fish was average and the crab/shrimp crostinis were extremely bland. I sat at the bar and the bartender was all over the place, not much for conversation. I probably wouldn't come back. read more

My family and a handful of other families have stayed here for about 4 years running. We stay the night before we cruise out of the port. We used to like it's charm, access to an attached restaurant and bar, proximity to the beach and they will let you park your car out back while your cruise for free. This is our last year. We've been here 5 hours and the cops have been here three times. It chaos. Some domestic dispute that started in the lobby. And no, not at 1:00 am. This was at 5:30 in the afternoon. Then after last call there was a huge fight outside the pool and at least one bloodied guest was taken away in a police car. I felt bad for the onsite security guard and credit to the hotel for having the foresight to hire one. The charm has worn off and now it's simply run down. Loud music, excessive drinking, late night maintenance traffic, dirty common areas. It is just all to much. Guess we will AirBnB or do a vanilla, but safe and clean, corporate hotel in the future and gladly pay for cruise parking. Too bad because before this trip we had fond memories of Gaidos. read more

They did have last minute availability which is great, but the room smelled musty and had obvious signs of mold on the lamp shades, ornaments and mattresses. The sink was clogged; it took a while for the water to go down. We also had trouble with the key, had to go to the office a few times. It is very clearly a smoking facility with ashtrays everywhere and I had read non smoking on booking.com. For the same price I could have booked at a home 2 suites by Hilton for a cleaner and larger room. I'll know for next time. read more

We booked this hotel for our anniversary, willing to overlook that it looked old, worn, and in need of maintenance. Unfortunately, what happened during our stay was unacceptable. About an hour after check-in, while my wife and I were in bed, maintenance opened our door trying to let other guests into our room. The front desk admitted it was a mistake, but it was a serious invasion of privacy and dignity. Their response was unprofessional and showed no real understanding of how upsetting this was. Later, when we returned from the beach, our keys didn't work. We called the front desk again, only to be met with rudeness and blame from the staff. Instead of an apology, we were told "we're allowed to make mistakes." At that point, we decided to check out early. In hospitality, customer service should be exceptional -- a warm greeting, attentive service, and accountability when something goes wrong. None of that was present here. The management should be ashamed of such poor training and disregard for guests. I strongly caution anyone considering staying here: you deserve better. There are other hotels in Galveston at the same price that will treat you with respect and provide a much better experience. read more

I will tell you up front that I am grading on a curve. Gaido's is not the Grand Galvez, but then it doesn't pretend to be either. It truly is one of the best values on the island. To start, the rooms are clean and spacious, though the age of things does show. Some of the steps up to the observation deck are cracked and broken, and the parking lot could stand some repairs. On the other hand, our bed was firm and comfortable. Breakfast was complimentary and very good. I understand they are renovating so that will be a nice improvement. The staff were all very friendly as well. Definitely a stay again place. read more

The Pool is again open to the public, Guido's sells day passes so forget trying to get into the hot tub. The Pool is crowded with people set up with coolers and boom boxes. My man and I visited Galveston for the first time. Read some reviews, saw both good and bad .... Decided to take the chance. the photos looked nice on Gaido's website and we loved that a full breakfast was included (I called to verify before, this was important to us). Upon checking into our room (109) we were struck with a funky moldy odor and the first thing we saw being a large white splash/stain on the side of the fridge. Upon further inspection, the whole room is dated and run down. The drawers and most of the furniture are broken and banged up. The room was dirty. we felt nervous to take off our shoes, the carpet needed replaced. Dusty grime everywhere, tape with hair stuck to walls in bathroom, you could tell the room was neglected.. & unacceptable for what we paid. We let the front desk know, they showed us two other rooms available. 108 which smelled just as bad... and 117 which we decided to keep. It smelt like it had actually been cleaned and seemed a little less neglected. Nonetheless, we stayed for 4 nights. The entire resort seemed pretty run down-- the kewpie court gaming lawn in the back was a joke no one even uses. The breakfast was extremely sad. Powder fake eggs, not great sausage links. Gravy and biscuits. Cereal in containers that desperately need cleaned. Coffee tasted like a burnt battery. There was some fruit and a waffle maker. My 250 pound boyfriend was able to get some of it down but I barely ate. On night #3, the resort lost electricity around 11PM and it was out for about an hour. It was raining, I get that things happen. However we did not have power to our AC until around 8AM the next morning and our room was incredibly hot and sweating on the windows. All in all we would never recommend this Inn to our friends, relatives, or strangers. The workers are nice and tried to help. But the hotel is incredibly neglected and run down, and just about ruined our vacation. If you just need somewhere to stay for the night and don't care about the stay, maybe stay here. Husband and I decided to try someplace new for a weekend getaway and chose this place based on the Gaido's name and the website stating it was newly renovated. We stayed in the "Gulf View Luxury King Ground Floor with Private Hot Tub" or "Mike's Corner" room. This room boasted several amenities such as: upscale linens, private hot tub, THREE flat screen TV's, Bluetooth music center, enhanced bath with separated shower/tub, wet bar, with a private entrance and patio.  What they DON'T tell you is that : The "upscale linens" stick to you all night because the AC doesn't cool properly and you sweat all night long. The tiles in the bathroom sag with what appears to be water damage. The "private patio" is literally on the corner of a very busy intersection. Therefore, loud cars drive by all the time. There is also a sidewalk VERY close to your "private patio" which causes people to walk right by the "private patio" and your room at all hours of the night. The entrance to get back into your room from the patio/hot tub area does not have an operating lock on the door. The aluminum shutters are not made to be actual barriers to keep the public from getting into your room, and since there is a broken lock on the actual door back into the room, we had to band it shut to feel it safe to even sleep at night. The main entrance from the parking lot is also dark and not well lit at night. Does not feel safe at all. The hot tub is rusted all around the bottom and barely reaches 101 degrees. There are only TWO TV's and only ONE of them actually works part of the time. The Bluetooth center never worked properly either. The wet bar has a filthy, rusted, and dusty plugin 6" plastic fan hooked on it that was not even plugged in. There was no purpose for this nasty fan aside from apparently showing the type of thing that is completely overlooked by the maintenance and cleaning crew. The seats besides the wet bar are stained with who knows what. The one door is also missing its knob. The enhanced bath needs a new plug to help actually hold water and the cool waterfall and other extra showers don't work either. The soap dispensers are rusted and dirty. The electrical sockets are all rusted as well (we understand it's by the Gulf, but have you not heard of using plastic or another material that might hold up better?) The doors will look like they have been jimmied open at least a couple of times. The tiles are not even fully covering the ceiling. If I were the Gaido's family, I would be ashamed to put my name and reputation on this hotel. If this little hotel is this bad, I'm curious what their restaurant kitchen looks like? If it weren't for the last-minute trip and non-refundable payment, we would have just left. What a waste of $700 bucks and we will never go back that's for sure!! Quaint older hotel. Pretty clean and not too expensive. Needs some minor updating. We rented a King gulfview room and the view was very nice. It was chilly so we didn't head to the pool and hot tub, but it looked like a nice setup. Probably should have since the German restaurant off of Strand Street wasnt very good. We did not try either restaurant attached to the hotel. We did have the homemade complimentary breakfast and it was very good. I would co sider staying here again should we end up in galveston again. read more

For the amount of money they charge for the Lone Star Rally weekend, why do you have to GO get your own towels and toilet paper. The only good thing about the hotel is the view of The Seawall. I've been coming to Galveston for years and normally stay at the San Luis Resort which has become over priced. So this round we got lucky enough to stay at Gaido's Seallwall. The place was super clean, pool and patio offers a great view, and to top off the continental breakfast hit the spot. Those ladies who run it are beyond amazing people.... I went back to room to give a tip that they deserve. I hope others seen that tip jar cause it deserves to be over full. The bar staff could use some energy but still were good people. read more

We booked a stay at Gaidos Seaside Inn in Galveston prior to our 10/30/2023 cruise. What a mistake! The motel is old, and layers of paint, like lipstick on a pig, can't hide everything. Our first problem was trying to find the Office for check-in during a heavy rainstorm. After two phone calls and our third trip around the block, we finally found the Office. The lady working the desk was very nice. Once in the room, we immediately noticed there was NO place to put our luggage except on the bed or on the floor, despite having a large open area near the bathroom wall that could have accommodated luggage racks or a table, or at least some comfortable chairs or small sofa. Many savvy travelers hesitate to put their luggage on the floor of a motel room because the floors are not regularly deeply cleaned, and leftover yuck from prior guests is NOT where I want to place my things. However, sleeping with our luggage on the bed was not an option. We are elderly, and bending over to get stuff out of the suitcase from the floor just didn't work! It was painful to say the least, and hard on my arthritic knees. There was also NO place to sit, except on the floor, on the bed, or on the dirty, cheap plastic chairs outside. There were 2 wooden chairs by the window but 5 minutes on that chair gets you numb butt. The bed was much higher than normal, requiring this arthritic old lady to literally "climb" onto the bed! I also had to keep pulling the corner of the bottom sheet and mattress pad back onto the mattress during the night. Definitely not conducive to a good night's sleep, especially after a long drive in heavy rain. The noise in the room was another issue we had to deal with. There were LOTS of noisy black birds outside our room. A simple fix would have been for management to place fake owls around the trees to discourage the birds, but they didn't do that. I guess $20 at Amazon is too much for them to spend to get their guests some peace and quiet, and to reduce bird messes around the pool and the property. In addition to the incessant bird squawking, we had to listen to the air conditioner that sounded louder than most large diesel trucks. When the AC unit wasn't running, it was very stuffy in the room. The bathroom presented a whole bunch of challenges. First was hunting for the hidden light switch for the light near the sink. Second was the low height of the toilet - good height for a child but not for a grown adult. They should have included a grab bar so we could haul ourselves up to our feet. The property layout is very strange and difficult to navigate. You can't always go along a straight line to get where you want to be, and signs are not helpful or easy to understand. The next morning when I was trying to locate the breakfast place in the cold wind and rain, I had to hike around the property a few times before I stumbled across it by accident. Signage for this is almost non-existent. Despite the motel advertising a "full breakfast" we were disappointed to note there was no bacon, sausage, biscuits or gravy. Almost a sacrilege in the south! They did have a very friendly lady doling out scrambled eggs, just like we used to get in the USMC. What does that tell you? Yep - powdered. They had some cooling pancakes and waffle pieces sitting under a red lap, but not warm enough to melt room temperature margarine. There was also some yogurt and cereal. Coffee was only available in the Office, but I had no idea how to find the Office from the breakfast space, and I didn't want to get lost trying to find our room out in the cold wind and rain, while carrying a plate of cold (by then) eggs with no breakfast meat. The biggest issue is we could NOT use the bathtub or shower! When I stepped into the tub to take a shower, the bottom of the tub wiggled like a gel pad, with trapped dirty water under the "skin" of the tub. The woman in the Office acted surprised when I mentioned the issue, and merely offered to have maintenance "take a look" but by that time we were ready to leave and get on our ship where we could at least get showered and cleaned up. Since the bathtub failure was obvious for anyone touching the bottom of the tub, I was concerned that housekeeping apparently never reported this issue to maintenance. The repair would require complete replacement of the tub. Makes me wonder about their standards of cleanliness and guest safety. I couldn't see any evidence they cared. One final thought my husband mentioned. This motel is owned by the same family that owns Gaidos Restaurant. Why not include a menu in the room so guests can order food? Not important to management. Many businesses would love multiple ways to generate revenue from guests, but not this place. We called and asked what appetizers were available, and the server suggested seafood linguine. This place is fine. The staff is very kind and accommodating. They even had free pecan pralines and popcorn at check in...yum yum! The pool area is pretty awesome. As far as the room...the a/c worked pretty good for the winter time, but I would worry about it in the Texas summers. The room itself was cute and even had aa mini fridge. The bedding was clean, but the bed itself was one of the worst mattresses I've ever slept on. I felt like the rest of the room was pretty dirty. Surfaces weren't wiped down, hair was all over the place, the bathroom floor was nasty and the shower was dirty. Luckily I brought Clorox wipes and wipes everything down...we left it cleaner than we found it for sure. I would stay again as long as I bring Clorox wipes and only stay a night or 2. read more

This is the rattiest place in Galveston! The front desk people are rude, not accommodating, and totally unfriendly! Rooms okay and clean, beds comfy, bathroom so small you can't turn around. Steep concrete steps outside to get to the second floor... no elevators! Stairs must be out of code! Way too steep and narrow! Almost fell several times! People were struggling to get their suitcases up the narrow steep stairs! Breakfast is a joke! Seemed really nasty! Served in a dingy room next to lobby that smells! No seating plus you have to go back to the lobby for coffee! Then carry your food back to your room to eat! Clientele in the back seemed shady and just sit out and smoke!!! Love this hotel! So much access to everything! Walk across to the beach, drive to restaurants all over, order food and drinks at pool! The updated decor is looking nice! It's a 3/5. Access mainly! Libby ladies so nice! The only downfall is breakfast, the ladies are so rude and act as if they hate their job. And maybe rightfully so but you choose where you work. The main lady yelling to close the door when my family very visibly still walking in. I'm sorry but I don't want to hear mean old lady yelling at me right after I wake up on vacation. But to be honest this has been the case over the last 8 years we have been coming, they are grumpy and extremely rose . Not family friendly. At all. (Don't be fooled by the pics of the pool like we were. Even the kiddie area is swarming with so so many drunk people who are not supervising their kids.) It's pretty much my policy not to write bad reviews. Doing business is hard enough without some grumpy lady making it harder. BUT when the front desk staff refuses to help you solve a problem that is keeping your young children up at night...Well, for the $1k I'm spending here, that feels unacceptable. Here's my problem. Not only do 80 percent of the visitors seem to be drunk at all hours, the staff has been rude at every turn, and their policy on managing the noise of their (often drunk) patrons is to tell their sleepy guests to "wear earplugs." But I'm listening to, no joke, 25+ people of all ages yell and laugh while loitering in the chairs outside my door at 11:41pm. Also, our bathroom smells like old cheese, and I cannot for the life of me air it out... For the $250+/night that I'm paying, a wiser consumer than myself could stay just about anywhere else - including the Commodore next door - and be better off in a nicer room, with better breakfast service and staff who at least pretends to care about whether you enjoy your stay. read more

This place is better than I thought it would be! The room was so cute and had beach vibes with its nautical theme! It was clean and smelled as such! I'm very picky about how a hotel smells since I now travel 100 percent of my time now for work. This was all for leisure though and I absolutely enjoyed my pool and ocean view!! The breakfast in the morning is also fantastic!! The ladies down in the kitchen were so nice and everything was made with love!! I would definitely stay here again! I do have to add that the music was nice the first two days and now I just wish it would stop! It's the same music day after day! I'd rather listen to the fountain as it's so relaxing. read more

I appreciate the concept that Gaidos is going for. It is very welcoming with the homemade breakfasts, unique selection of books in each room, and the rooms have a homey feel to them. You cannot beat the location of this hotel to the beach. It is just a skip and a hop across the street, and you are there! This hotel claims to have the "best beachside pool". We never visited it during our stay. However, from what I could see, it appears to be a decent pool. For the cons: Of course it is a cheaper beachside hotel. With that, the rooms are not updated and the building has a run down look. The closet in our room had what appeared to be mold in it. There is an odd smell outside, kinda like rotting eggs. They have one of those industrial rat trap devices and it smelled like death whenever we walked by it. Also, it gets pretty rowdy at the hotel at night and the rooms are not soundproof. We could hear every noise coming from the guests above and beside us. The beds are super high off the ground, just be careful if you have babies or small kids. As far as housekeeping goes, you need to schedule a day in advance for service. Overall, I enjoyed our stay at Gaidos. The price is great and you really cannot get much closer to the beach. You have to be your own daily housekeeper and get fresh towels, wash rags and toilet paper (after requesting them 3 times from housekeeping) oh and you'll also get locked out of your room because the battery is broken on the lock and have to wait outside for half an hour while maintenance comes with not a key to let you in but a snake to fix your toilet (that's not even broken) yeah I'm glad we're checking out tomorrow read more

The staff is kind and helpful, the hotel room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast is home cooked and the ladies serving you are as sweet as they can be. You can tell it is an older hotel, but not run down at all, you can tell they have kept it up. It is very quaint, and relaxing. The only issue in the room itself was the sink was very slow to drain, however, nothing to loose sleep over. We had a cool front move thru with a good wind storm the following morning and one of the patio umbrellas flew over and hit the hood of my car. The manager was very kind and on top of notifying the owners. They have not given me any issues, in fact, they have been very accommodating with taking care of the minor damage (scratch on hood). This is definitely one of the lower amenity hotels in the area, but we chose it based on the pool for the kids. From pictures, it seemed more than ordinary with a mushroom that had water coming down along with a waterfall on the far end of the pool. We were hoping for a room with a view of the beach, but we instead received one on the back end of the property. When we arrived to our room, we found a huge bug on the curtains, which my husband amounted to nothing. Our room had a mini fridge, microwave, iron, and a hair dryer. As soon as my kids took a shower and reached for a towel, the towel holder broke and fell on the toilet (which had no cover) which in turn got all of the sand paper towels wet. When climbing into bed, we realized that the sheets had stains on them. While they didn't stink, it would've been nice if they took extra care cleaning and removing stains. The "free" breakfast isn't all what they make it to be. Sure, it's nice to not have to go out and spend money on breakfast, but I'd rather prefer soft muffins and bread compared to the hard ones they offered. Space to sit is very limited as well, so go eat early or take it back to your room. This is definitely a budget hotel, but it didn't have a budget friendly price tag. In total, with taxes, the amount was around $175 for one night during the week (Thursday) with Check in beginning at 4pm and Check out at 11am. read more

Imagine you are camping, and this place is fine. Musty smell. Get you an air freshener before checking in. Stained sheets. Milky color in the pool. 3 hairs attached to me while I was in the pool for 40 minutes. None were mine. Not a bagel or yogurt in sight at the free breakfast. Great location for beach and fishing.
