The most honest review of Casa Dumetz begins with a warning to AVOID this place at all costs. While all advertising would suggest this is a friendly, female-focused winery, all staff members our group encountered seemed to be the exact opposite. Our group of 5 all ordered $30 wine tastings where we were not allowed to actually select the wines to taste. When I asked what wines would be included, the server identified several on the menu and unfortunately only half of these ended up being included in the final tasting. As our group began to enjoy our tasting, the staff unexpectedly took our heater away to warm a 2 top table without ever asking our group if we still wanted the heater (we did, it was 50 degrees out). One person in our group brought out a leftover bite of baguette from a previous stop in town and was QUICKLY alerted by the owner with the wag of a finger and note that "they sell food there and she can't bite her own food." The owner waited until my friend put her small bite in her purse before walking away. When checking out, the server told us we'd need to pay via one card only (fine) and proceeded to watch closely as my friend chose her gratuity option (rude). Although we selected a nice 20% tip on the screen prompt, the actual math shook out to a 24% tip without us ever agreeing to it. Never have I went to a wine tasting that serves dim sum instead of the usuals; strawberries, bruschetta, cheese and crackers, etc. Maybe they making it Asian friendly ‍ ‍ coming from an Asian person myself, this is a weird combination. A friend of ours does not like dry wines, prefers sweet (dessert) wines. The restaurant does not have any sweet wines for my friend so they given her apple cider. She took one sip and passed on all the wine tasting, but still stays and keep us company. When we receive the bill I see they charged my friend for her wine tasting. I let the waitress know my friend just took a sip of the apple cider and passed on it and the wine tasting. Just visited Casa Dumetz. Loved the food and wine but left with a bad taste in our mouths. We ordered 3 flights of wine ($30 a flight for less than 1 bottle worth of wine.)....the samples were way, way less than generous. Not enough to even get a decent taste of the wines. The food was great, We had the KFC (Koren fried cauliflower) So damn good! and the beef egg rolls. Here's the real downer. We were a party of 4 and were automatically charged for tip when the menu clearly states gratuity added for parties of 6 or more. We purchased 6 bottles of wine. The tip was calculated on not only the food and flights but the purchase of bottles not even opened. So wrong. Been visiting Los Alamos since 2005. It has turned into a cold and heartless town. You can't even find a place that serves charcuterie with wine.. Apparently every place there thinks they share Bell Farms Michelin star.There won't be a next time. Super disappointed. Took a weekday break from our daily routine and spent the night at SkyView Motel. Upon arrival, we decided to get a quick tasting so we walked in to Casa Dumetz. We loved stopping in here for wine tasting. This is not a vineyard and not a winery. Just a tasting room, sharing space with a beer tasting room next door and very comfortable patio. These three areas are fun and funky and they do a lovely job giving the history of the wines. Delicious and plentiful pours, we may have had 7 or 8 tasted for the $15 fee and we bought a total of 8 bottles between the 6 of us. Terrific Grenache here. read more

I came today for the first time after receiving a tasting offer from Rideau Winery and it was a great discovery! We have been to Solvang for so many years and never went to Los Alamos, so I was thrilled to discover a new spot! The winery is downtown is a very bright & welcoming location, the staff was super friendly and helpful. The wine tasting was great and the hostess was very attentive, and trying to please us as much as she could with trying many wines. Was really hoping to love this women-owned tasting room with its feminist edge. Our experience was strange. When we walked in we asked to sit near the back of the patio where there were less people but as a party of two (women) we were told we couldn't only sit at a table for two. We were seated uncomfortably close to another table - much closer than I have sat to a stranger in over a year. The next two groups of two who walked in were seated at large tables with no request. After that we asked to move and were allowed to move to a larger table in the back. We asked for two tastings. Our waiter brought wines for us (2 whites and 4 reds) without asking anything about our preferences. We heard other groups being asked about their wine preferences so we were somewhat turned off by this. The wines were good but the pours were quite small and the tastings were $30 each. We had one of each of their bao buns which were very good, though the mushroom bao was too spicy for me. This place has a funky feel and a lot of potential, but based on our experience I wouldn't be excited to go back. read more

I unfortunately have to write a negative review based on the customer service alone. I am honestly really taken aback on how rude and belittling the owner was when speaking to my husband and I. On a person to person level, I have never walked away from an interaction feeling so small and shamed. I understand there are rules with every establishment and I will gladly accept when we are in the wrong (bringing outside food in). However, there is a way to express the restaurant policies without being degrading. Please do better. read more

My husband and I recently got married up in the Santa Ynez Valley and after years of visiting Sonja and Los Alamos we wanted to share our special weekend with her at Casa Dumetz. We had our 'welcome party' on Friday night with Sonja and Vallefresh and it was honestly the best night of my life (of course besides the wedding!). Sonja and her team were such great hosts, ensuring all of our guests were happy, had wine in their cups and the rose was chilled. She was so flexible with what we wanted to do for the evening and was able to accommodate any of our requests. She helped us with the wine selection that would complement the tacos, as well as stay within our price range and we couldn't have been happier. I mean I now LOVE rose because of this woman! I have admired Sonja on a professional level since the first day I met her, and now I am in complete awe of how talented she is expanding beyond her wines. We were bummed about our last wine tasting experience here. 20 bucks for four tiny pours of wine that seems to have declined in quality over the last few years. I should have paid attention to the "10 places to avoid while visiting Los Alamos" article. I went at prime time Sunday early afternoon, right when I expected there would be attentive service that a small business would surely strive for. I checked in at the patio kiosk and was promptly seated. About half of the tables were empty. Then I sat for 15 minutes, not exaggerating, while 3 different staff ladies walked around, never making eye contact and not offering any service. During this time, in between doing nothing, they gathered at the little kiosk and starting writing on their wrists with little felt pens in different colors. Finally staff lady 4 and apparent designated server came to my table and I finally got to sample some wine from the dis-jointed wine list. I particularly enjoyed the 2019 No Service Grenache. This is my second recent visit here. Both times (on a weekend) the legendary owner and top feminist Sonja was "off" and not to be found. Am I going back? Never. read more

Loved Casa Dumetz! The tasting room is very nice and welcoming and have an open and friendly feeling. The owner was in and very kind but we were helped by Chris and thought he was the best. He was probably the funnest, most knowledgeable and helpful person we talked to on our wine weekend. He gave us a bunch of winery recommendations based on our favorite type of wines and really seemed to know his stuff. We tried all of the wines Casa Dumetz had open that day and every single one was great. If we find ourselves in the Los Alamos area again we will be back for sure. read more

My wife Cassandra nearly collapsed when we walked in the tasting room front door and saw Emilio Estevez after I promised her there was no way he would be there. He was cool, as was Sonja the winemaker. We tasted nothing on the spot, but bought 7 bottles, and some home made ajvar, a red pepper relish (amazing). We just arrived in LA, and burned a bottle of Tierra Alta Vineyard, 2012 Grenache, and it's pretty damn good. An oceanic, floral, ripe red plum deliciousness that is very memorable. Casa Dumetz is one of my favorite stops in the greater Santa Ynez Valley area. Sonja (the winemaker) is an amazing host (along with her staff) on top of making delicious wines. Within the last year, Sonja made a "flight" of five Granaches, each sourced from a different vineyard. It was amazing to taste the character of each of those vineyards come out through the wines that Sonja created. Needless to say, I got all five! Lastly, Casa Dumetz hosts a series of speakers on Friday nights. It's a great way to have a glass of wine and listen to some very good talks. I'm really looking forward towards this years wine releases. Only getting better and will be back to visit every time we come up to Los Alamos (plus great food in that town). read more

Casa Dumetz is a really great place in general. The wine is DELICIOUS, the atmosphere is great, and the employees have always been super cool and not pretentious. I also love supporting a local business owned by a truly awesome and talented woman, Sonya. If she has time, she will always stop and talk to you, check in to make sure you're having a good time, and have a genuine conversation with you. Casa Dumetz also has some really neat speakers that come during the evening and give talks on a range of topics, from the harvesting of ancient grains, to the power of intuition. I enjoyed the wines but I have three critiques that I think are important and would help the business. 1. There is no clear tasting sheet with cost and what you're tasting. Very confusing. 2. $25 for a tasting in Los Alamos for 5 tastings is too high. 3. Santa Barbara passport still advertises 20% off on a purchase which you will not accept. It is not up to the customer to deal with this. I was going to buy a bottle (at least) which meant maybe a cost of $6 for you. You said no. So now you get a poor rating and no purchase. Bad business decision. I actually liked the wines but don't want to go back because of this decision. read more
